Problems with 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

On average, the 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE and its various aspects after 61 503 miles.

Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

After i filled the fuel tank in my chevrolet trailblazer the fuel light came on and the fuel gauge read empty. since then i have been resetting my trip meter when ever i fuel up,but my husband forgot to after filling up and ran out of fuel when he wasn't sure of how much gas the vehicle actually had. i contacted the local chevrolet dealership after i found that the nhtsa had a defect investigation on my vehicle. the service department informed me that it would only be replaced if the vehicle was 120,000 miles or under and until august 2015.now i have 122,000 miles i'm responsible for replacing the defective part myself? the problem and danger of engine stall still exists due to low fuel levels no matter what the mileage is.the vehicle manufacture did not inform us that we had to dispose of the vehicle after 120,000 miles because it was going to be unsafe and no warranty to repair a dangerous recall.i feel that chevrolet should replace the fuel level sensor no matter what the current mileage is because the dangers still exist.i do not understand the thought process behind this and i greatly appreciate help with this problem. *tr

I have a 2006 chevy trailblazer ext.... so it goes, i was preparing for my long road trip to yosemite, and had just fueled up. once i turned on the car the check engine light went on and then i noticed the gas gauge moving randomly, back and forth. it then stayed on empty. well i called our mechanic since we were leaving on a road trip and he recommended i fill up at every 200 miles to be safe. after i was told of the expense to fix it, i continue to prolong the repair and decided to do further research into this situation. i am baffled by the amount of people who have experience this problem and still no recall by gm. can you imagine the people who have not reported the problem and just take it directly to their mechanic to fix. should everyone be reporting the incident we may have gotten this to turn into a recall. well in hopes that my complaint helps...here it goes. good luck to everyone who is experiencing this problem. it sucks not knowing how much gas you really have. *tr

After putting fuel in my tank, i started to pull out of the gas station and noticed my check engine light came on and my fuel gauge was bouncing back and forth between empty and full. this went on for the entire day as i was running errands. then the gauge dropped to empty and stayed there as well as my check engine light staying on. the next day the gauge stayed at empty and my check engine light was still on. i stopped by my mechanic to have them check and see what was going on and explained to them what had happened the day before. they check the code and found that it was the fuel sensor and right after they checked the code the check engine light went out and the fuel gauge went to full. they told me to keep an eye on it and let them know if it happened again that they would have to replace it. i closely watched the fuel gauge and noticed that my fuel gauge was not moving even after driving over 100 miles it was still showing full. at this time i started logging the mileage each week i filled my tank as i was concerned that i would run out of fuel because the fuel gauge was not registering correctly. this continued every week for months. then the check engine light and the fuel gauge started doing this more often during the week. so i brought it back to my mechanic and had the fuel sensor replaced. since then with all the recalls that have been happening i decided to see if my vehicle was part of any of the recalls that were going on and noticed the complaints on the fuel sensor. i saw that there may be a chance that i could get reimbursed for 50 percent of the repair work that i had to have done as they were not doing a full recall on this issue. if there is a chance for reimbursement i would like to know what my next step is to start the process. *tr

The fuel gauge reads empty when filled up. then the fuel indicator will go from empty to full to anywhere between. *tr

For months i have been having issues with my vehicle. it was taken in to chevrolet for a recall repair and now it seems to have all sorts of problems! my fuel gauge in the tank is no longer working, my a/c was working one day but not the next, the check engine light turns on and off, it's dumping fuel, the thermostat had to be replaced...when do the problems end? now come to find out after having my blower motor replaced the connector for the electrical has had a little bit of melting issue which potentially could have caught fire!!! of course general motors wants and arm and a leg to replace it!!!! i don't think i will ever buy another chevy again, this is ridiculous! if it had caught fire which i am sure if people can't afford or don't get their vehicles properly checked there will be one that happens to, it could kill someone! seems like a liability waiting to happen! *tr

After starting the car, i watched the half tank fuel gauge drop to empty. i went to fill up the tank and it didn't take but about a half a tank. the gauge still show empty and warning low fuel was on. soon the engine light came on after driving a short distance. the fuel gauge continues to show empty.. the tank is full. *tr

Just filled gas tank at service station. when restarting the engine the fuel gauge read empty and hasn't changed. *tr

My 2006 chevy trailblazer has been having difficulties with the fuel gage. no matter how much gas i put in the gage shoots to over full, then within a day goes to empty and warning light goes on. i called my dealership as my car's warranty expired 6 months ago, and was told it was problem the gas tank unit or sender and that it could cost up to $1000 to fix. after doing some research i come across several other complaints to this same effect and gm is only willing to pay for 50% of the repair costs. my vehicle only has 43,000 miles and is in perfect condition with regular maintenance. there should be a recall on this item ad gm should be responsible for full payment of repairs. *tr

This is to report a defect that is a safety issue with the fuel sensing system. this is to document my claim for recall purposes. there have been two incidents, but i am reporting the first incident to keep this report short. while i was driving the fuel indicator showed about full, then all of a sudden, it dropped to less than empty and my fuel light engaged. as i was driving to get to the nearest gas station, the engine stopped while i was driving in traffic. luckily, i was in a position to let the vehicle roll around a corner. it was in a dangerous place just as cars were completing the turn. i put the emergency flashers on and exited the vehicle. i was fortunate to be able to get out of the car before an accident could occur. it was also fortunate that my vehicle didn't cause an accident that could have hurt someone besides myself. the other reason why this is a safety concern, is i have a rare medical condition that affects my lungs and heart. it placed me in a potentially dangerous position to heat exposure. i have a hard time breathing in heat and humidity. again, fortune was on my side, and there was a tree for shade to wait for help and it was one month before it got dangerously hot. granted, there is always a chance anything could happen to a car that could potentially place me in the same position, but in this case, another occurrence occurred and when i called a local mechanic, it was well known that has been an issue with the fuel sensor. upon further research, i am among many that has made this complaint and placed in dangerous predicaments. to replace a small sensor costs a whole months income in my case. i do not feel it is appropriate to require a consumer to pay and replace a defective component that is a safety issue. it is my intent this ongoing investigation comes to a close, as i have seen reports since 2011. *tr

Fuel gauge does not work and vehicle is at times losing fuel pressure. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the driver side window started opening and closing independently. in addition, the side mirror started moving forward and backward independently and without activation. after parking the vehicle, the engine would shut itself off and the entire electrical system would become inoperable. also, none of the doors could be unlocked and the failure would recur for several minutes before the contact would be able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was then taken to the dealer who advised that the power window module was defective, causing all of the electrical system to become inoperable. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 12v406000: (electrical system) but her vin was not included in the recall campaign. the manufacturer was notified of the failure who confirmed that the contact's vin was not included in the recall, offering no further assistance. the failure mileage was 71,000. updated 10/10/12 *cn updated 10/10/2012 *js

The fuel gauge has stopped working, my research shows that is a big problem, it shows empty all the time. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge was defective and would read empty when the fuel tank was full. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 88,000.

Gas gauge fluctuates, filled gas tank, moments later it went down to empty (warning light and sound went off). this has happened for the past week. prior to this the check engine would sporadically go off and on, probably an early indicator that there was a problem with the fuel gauge. *tr

My gas gauge went bad and at first i was not aware and my car just lost power in the middle of the highway. now its going to cost me 500.00 to fix and gm doesn't want to take care of this step up to the plate this is nuts!!!! i have read multiple websites and i agree with every angry and upset customer if it a default then it should be fixed by the company. very poor customer service. *tr

I just purchased a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer approximately a month ago. i have noticed that my fuel gauge tends to go ballistic when it wants and where it wants. it's like my truck can not decide if there is gas in the tank or not. i find this to be a major safety hazard. all i can find online is gm is offering to pay half on selected models as long as they meet requirements. ok the government bailed gm out, how come they can't be forced to correct the problem that their shoddy parts created?!?!? from what i've found, this is a very wide range problem. considering i just purchased this vehicle, i don't have the money to even pay half for the repair.....so what, i'm just stuck like chuck? at least ford fixes their screw ups! *tr

My gas gauge reads empty after i fill up with gasoline. *tr

As many of the other complaints my 2006 trailblazer is having a fuel tank sending unit problem, the fuel gauge will read empty then shoot up to half full, i was told that the repair will cost approx 600. to 700.00 which i can't afford . i don't believe it's time to force gm to step up to the plate and issue a recall seeing that so many others are having the same problem. *tr

Fuel gauge reads empty and low fuel light illuminated after filling gas tank, fuel gauge rises and falls intermittently. *tr

I have several times now been driving with 1/4 tank of gas and run out of fuel. now today i fill the tank and the gas gauge reads empty with the light on. i just put in 22 gallons so i know it is not empty. i have heard of this problem many times online and there needs to be a recall, this occurs through no fault of owner. *tr

Fuel gauge warning light did not come on and fuel gauge remained on empty even after filling the gas tank up. i now have to guess as to my fuel amount and fill up every 300 miles to be safe so as to not run out of gas with my 6 month old son in the car. the cost estimate for replacing this component is over $800 which i do not have. i believe that with so few miles and such a common complaint, gm should issue a recall so no one runs out of gas on the interstate and gets rear ended. *tr

I filled up and the meter immediately pointed towards empty then the light came on. reads empty 95% of the time. the needles will raise to the 1/4 line and drop within seconds. *tr

Last night on 01/17/12 i filled my truck with gas and when i restarted the vehicle it started dinging at me and the gas gauge was stuck on empty. this morning i started the truck and drove to work and the fuel gauge kept moving and reading differnt amounts. i placed a call to gm and they are fully aware of the problem but say it's not a safety concern so no recall was issued and that i would have to pay for half of the repair that could only be done thru an authorized dealer. something is seriously wrong, this is a huge safety concern for me not to know if i have fuel and i have to pay gm more money when they are fully aware that they used faulty equipment.

Gas gauge stopped working for no apparent reason. needle jumps from full to empty to half, etc. while driving. unable to gauge how much gas is in the tank. *tr

Fuel gauge reads empty and check engine light illuminates after fill up. usually returns to normal in a few days. *tr

The fuel gauge was giving false reading saying empty when it was not or full when it was empty and sometimes in between. this cause the engine to stall when driving on a public road making it very hard to pull over and stop because the power steering and power brakes quit working. i have searched on this issue and it is a huge problem with trailblazers. *tr

Gas gauge does not operate has a reuslt of defective fuel pump

After taking my vehicle in for yearly inspection my mechanic informed me that the alternator bearings are bad and that it needs immediate repair. i was informed that this is serious because the vehicle may give me problems at any time without warning. this is extremely unsettling to me because i have to have a vehicle i can depend on to drive my husband to an out of town hospital at any given moment, and drive on an extremely busy highway.(the schuykill expressway) my mechanic stated that this is very unusual because the vehicle had less than 30,000 miles and this doesn't usually till at least 100,000 miles. another problem is the gas gauge has not worked for two years, again this is unsettling because of driving out of town at any time of day or night on a busy highway. general motors said they would pay half of the repair but why must i pay anything when it is apparent that the part they used was faulty. *tr

The fuel tank flange on the filler line into fuel tank leaks and is defective at manufacturing it is a plastic flange that has broke allowing fuel to leak out of fuel tank. it is at chevy dealer in kissimmee florida and i have photo's of flange and area that has been leaking. i have call chevy and they are reviewing the case but i want an investigation due to the safety of fuel leaks near hot exhaust pipes. we have 2 trailblazer in our family and both have leaks from the same flange. case number [xxx] for the 2006 model and [xxx] for the 2004 model. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Ran out of gas, because the fuel gauge does not work properly. *tr

Filled up the vehicle at the gas station and when vehicle was restarted fuel gauge was reading empty. fuel gauge has since not functioned properly. *tr

Got full tank of gas. fuel gauge drops to empty. appears to fix self then drops to empty more. fuel gauge completely unreliable. have to use trip meter now to judge gas level. dangerous if i run out of gas in heavy traffic. *tr

Filled fuel tank full, and started to drive away. fuel gauge suddenly dropped to empty and low fuel light came on. moments later, fuel gauge returned to a full reading, and low fuel light went off. moments later while driving, fuel gauge again dropped to empty and low fuel light again came on. check engine light also then came on and has stayed on. now fuel gauge intermittently drops to empty and low fuel light comes on, then gauge returns to full reading. check engine light stays on. dangerous potential to run out of fuel as have no idea as to actual gas in tank. understand that this has been a common problem on this and similar gm vehicles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph the vehicle suddenly stalled without any warning. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who advised her that the gasoline sensor was not reading the fuel properly. the dealer also advised her that there was no oil in the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 145,000.

Fuel gauge inoperable, fuel gauge indicates empty at all times. even after a fill-up of the gas tank. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge displayed an empty reading even though fuel was present in the fuel tank. the contact received a notice from the manufacturer stating that they were aware of the failure. the manufacturer also stated that the fuel sensor needed to be replaced before it completely failed. the contact also stated that this failure could lead to additional failures. the manufacturer offered to pay for half of the repair costs. the failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 62,000. updated 07/13/12 *bf updated 07/18/12

Nhtsa action number: dp10001 fuel gauge not working properly. gauge will show empty when vehicle is full; gauge will show full when the vehicle is empty. the gauge indicator started fluxing between full, empty and levels in between. now it typically stays at empty all the time regardless of the amount of fuel. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving 40 mph when the vehicle ran out of fuel. the fuel gauge was reading a quarter tank of fuel yet the empty light was illuminated. the contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer nor was the manufacturer made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

Gas gauge reads empty even after vehicle has been filled up. this problem has occurred for a year. have ran out of gas on the freeway on 4 occasions. *tr

Driving down the road at 65 mph fuel gauge drops from 3/8 full to zero. other gauges such as oil pressure, coolant temperatures also drops to zero. also several warning lights such as check engine and anti lock break turn on. i stopped the car shut off the engine and it would not start again. after adding 2 gallons of gas it started again but when i took it to gas station i could only add about 11 gallons into a 24 gallon tank. so i believe the reading at 3/8 full was correct before it went to zero. the same situation occurred again when we had 3/4 tank full, this time our family was stranded out of town. *tr

Four days ago, while driving i noticed the fuel gauge light was on and the needle was on empty. there was 3/4 tank of gas in the vehicle. then the needle proceeded to slowly rise to half full, and go down and up sporadically. since then it continues to fluctuate up and down. even after filling the gas tank a day ago, the needle still sporadically fluctuates between empty and full. the vehicle has 49,000 miles on it. *tr

Everytime i would fill up the car, it would go to e with the light on and now it stays on empty. can't tell how much ga is in it. it should be a chevrolet recall since it is happening to a lot of chevrolet owns. *tr

I own a 2006 chevy trailblazer. my fuel gauge sensor is going out. i just filled my tank and it tells me it is empty. i am told chevrolet will pay half the costs but it will still cost me $200. i have had more problems with this vehicle than any i have previously owned. if this is such a well known problem with these vehicles why has there not been a recall? *tr

The fuel gauge in my 2006 trailblazer stopped working. even after filling up the gas tank, it reads that it's on empty, the low fuel light comes on and there is a low fuel level message. this has been going on for several months; it started out with the needle bouncing around the gauge but now it just sits on empty. i am taking it in for repair because i don't feel safe not knowing how much gas i truly ever have. *kb

Gas gauge just stopped working all of the sudden. even after i fill the tank all the way up, the gas gauge is unresponsive. it reads as empty and the warning sign/beeps continue throughout my drive. i haven't called chevy yet because i wanted to look online to see the estimated cost and possible causes. much to my surprise, there are about a million other chevy customers with the same issue. is there a reason a recall hasn't been issued yet? i read chevy doesn't consider this a "safety" issue therefore no recall has been extended. are you kidding me? i would think your car dying in the middle of the desert and being stranded in the middle of nowhere would be a safety issue. or your car dying on the highway at 75mph..again pretty serious situation. how about if i'm driving through an intersection and my car dies because i have no clue how much gas i have. then i get t-boned and am at best in critical condition at the hospital. am i the only one that thinks this is a very serious issue and needs to be recalled because it is in fact a safety issue. is it not considered a safety issue until we have reported deaths because of it. i'm about to deploy to afghanistan and will unfortunately be leaving this issue for my wife to deal with. i pray that nothing happens to her or my 3 year old daughter because someone wasn't man enough to admit they were at fault and issue a recall to fix a problem so many consumers are having. i will never buy another vehicle from chevrolet or gm for that. so disappointed. *tr

I filled my gas tank. when i restarted the car the gas gauge no longer works. it has been this way for two weeks. i have been setting a trip mileage gauge to insure that i do not run out of gas. i received a notice a while back from chevrolet stating that this is a problem. they do not accept responsibility in the form of a recall, but will discount the repairs. i threw way the notice as i did not have any problems. i have yet to contact my chevrolet dealer, as i am considering my options. *tr

The fuel gauge no longer provides an accurate reading. vehicle stalled due to empty gas tank with gas gauge showing 1/2 tank. occurred at 48,000 miles. the gas gauge can no longer be relied upon creating an extremely dangerous driving situation should fuel run out and a stall occur. *tr

I was running low of fuel so i stopped at a gas station to refill. after completely filling the tank and starting the vehicle, the fuel gauge needle was on empty and the low fuel level light was lit. since then, the fuel gauge fluctuates and does not display the actual fuel level. i have been relying on the trip odometer to estimate my fuel usage so that i do not run out of gas. about a month prior to this issue affecting me, i had received a letter from general motors describing this issue a offering to cover 50% of the repair cost. obviously, this issue is affecting a great number of vehicles and the manufacturer should step up and fix their problem. *tr

The gas gauge does not work and is a safety concern. the first time this occurred was at the gas station after i filled up. over the past 8 months it became worse and now it stays on empty even with a full tank. i purchased this car used from a bmw dealer just last july. i have researched online and have seen where this is a very common problem among chevy trailblazers that may involve a fuel sensor. *jb

The gas gauge on the vehicle has stopped working. i called gm and they state that there is no recall even though this a common problem on this vehicle line. gm needs to do a full recall and not only offer to pay for half of the repairs to the vehicle for this issue. *tr
