We have classified the 427 complaints from 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Speedometer and gas gauge malfunctioning headlights seem to blink when i drive at night. chevy is well aware of these problem with the chevy trailblazer 2005 ,they need to do a recall on the instrument panel like now! or lives could be in danger due to the electrical malfunction these vehicles are experiencing. *tr
In the beginning the speedometer would go all the way to highest speed immediately upon cranking vehicle. after a few months or quit working all together. the gas gage quit working a few months after that. then again a few months later all other gauges quit working except rpm gage. that is only functioning gage on instrument panel. *tr
Lights flicker at night. 3 or 4 times driving 40 miles. says it is normal for vehicle. *tr
Control cluster failure for a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer, speedometer works about 15% of the time. *tr
Purchased 11/24/2008 ~20k miles. within 5months a whole host of issues started, the 1st being the fuel gauge not working by showing full & actually not (ran out of gas twice) and then showing empty after fillup. 1week later the engine light came on & the instrument panel stopped working. ~ one year later, dec 2009 the speedometer fluctuated from working properly to ~50-55mph base instead of 0. after a few days, the speedometer did zero-out but then did not show any speed but stayed at 0. along with the speedometer issue are the headlights dimming sporadically. all of the issues have continued on-off since. march 2012 the windshield reservoir started leaking/cracked. february 2013 had tuneup, brakes, and thermostat replaced and since then add front vents stopped working plus severe, sporadic, high idle - driving to work (metropolitan, downtown, capital of state-high rush hour) the high rev started and all i wanted was to get to workplace parking lot ~2miles. 2blcks fr pkg lot, i was braking at a left, dblturn light with the rev & brakes grabbingh/counteracting. i come to a full stop but my suv revs to over 3rpms & i thought the trblzr would break free & crash into the cars in front of me! i have a "christine" car and hate the feeling of driving an unsafe vehicle that chevy won't recall/fix and i can't afford to buy anything else currently or get all these issues repaired. i place mine, my kids and passengers' lives & safety into jeopardy every time we get in to drive/ride. i only have 78k miles and 1yr of car pymnts left. i will never buy another chevy again and i was a diehard chevy and "buy american" consumer. this vehicle is a piece of junk. my next purchase will be any vehicle that is safe, whoever the manufacturer may be. can anything be done to help??? *tr
The speedometer has failed and it appears that this is a serious problem and has been happening for years in many chevy models especially the trailblazer. they want 800 dollars to fix it. only have 38900 miles on my 2005. *tr
My speedometer is acting bizarre, it just goes round and round, started abut 2 months ago. i understand that the 2003 & 2004 were recalled for the chevy trailblazer. now within the last week, my gas gage has gone crazy not showing accurately, first on empty light on low fuel, then while i'm driving light will go off and it registers to show full take when actually i may have 1/2 tank. i took to repair shop each item is over 300.00 for repair. he suggested to look into see if the censor was recalled for the gas, and that 03 & 04 was recalled for the speedometer and if 05's were being recalled. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer vin#, i am having problem with the speedometer sticking, not working, showing 120 mph when i am completely stopped. i contacted my gm dealer & was told that gm was not covering the 2005 trail blazer, but was covering 2003, 2004 gm tahoe, silverado & other trucks with the same problem & the same instrument cluster panel. i contacted gm customer service for a resolution on 3-11-09 i talked with joe sanders. on 3-12 a district specialist's contacted me & assigned a service request number 71-708713901. on 3-23-09 i talked with jenvive & she indicated my case had been reviewed & denied repair because gm was not covering this issue in this model. she said to pay for the repair & hold onto receipts that gm my cover the costs in the future. i asked for her supervisor & talked with erin mata & she denied my request for gm to repair the vehicle because they were covering the same part problem in earlier models, but not in the 2005 trail blazer. my complaint is that gm should cover the issue in later models, when the problem is with the same instrument cluster panels. any help you can provide would be appreciated. *tr
My 2005 chevrolet trailblazer ls speedometer has stop working. when we were driving it suddenly went to 120 mph and were actually driving 40 mph. it is not safe to be driving like that! an accident can occur or possibly death! to this date it i still stuck at 120 mph! i bought it new in 2005 and it only has 40,000 miles! *tr
Speedometer has stopped working in my 2005 chevy trailblazer. vehicle has 31,000 miles on it and will read that i am going 120mph when in fact i am not moving. i have no idea how fast i am traveling at any time. *tr
The rpm gauge is not working properly. once in a while the speedometer is also off. *tr
2005 tb has consistent electrical problems. fuel sensor has failed and been replaced, numerous bulbs failed and replaced, now odometer/trip computer has failed. lights consistently dim/brighten. vehicle will idle low and stall on occasion. *tr
I have had several problems with the electrical system in my 05 trailblazer. now i'm pretty sure the alternator needs replaced. it has already been to the shop once for electrical related problems and the vehicle only had 77,000 mile on it. *tr
Fuel just stopped working, driving down the road and headlights start dimming gauges go all over the board. put a new battery in, changed the alternator and it continues to do this. check engine light keeps coming on for oxygen sensor had that replaced 1 year ago needs replaced again. *tr
1. check engine light stays on consistently no matter what repairs i have done. 2. speedometer fails to constantly. i recently got a speeding ticket for not staying within speed limit. 3. dealership has constantly said they have not heard of any complaints by any consumers. 4. onstar system has failed from a year after purchase. 5. occasionally stalls and smells of gasoline. *tr
The speedometer started sticking periodically at first. then would read at least 40 miles per hour over, then now it is just stuck. there is nothing i can do to correct the issue short of replacing the dash. *tr
First, fuel gauge, then the entire instrument panel stopped working. *jb
Bought 2005 chevy trailblazer in march 2008. about a month ago the speedometer acting up. i would be going down the road and the speedometer would just starting declining. once i stopped an put into to park it would reset itself. this happened 3-4 times and then today as i was driving my kids to school i was going maybe 30mph, just pulled out of drive way and it said i was going 110 mph. there is no recall on this problem for this vehicle and to fix the problem you are looking at $400-$600. this is ridiculous. *tr
The fuel gauge stopped working in my vehicle and by the time the recall occurred in 2013, my vehicle has more than the limited mileage of 120,000 or less to pay for half the repair cost. the speedometer failed to work at all back in 2009 as well. *tr
The speedometer sticks at various speeds. sometimes it shows *below* zero when i'm moving. last night, i was traveling at approx. 65-70mph, i assume, but the speedometer was stuck at 30. when decelerating, the speedometer will stick at certain speeds, and then jerk down suddenly. my trailblazer only has about 53,000 miles on it. i have seen reports of this issue beginning at 30k, but most kick in at around 50k. i am calling the shop today. from what i've read, it's related to a faulty stepper motor. if i am able to update this report, i will. however, i think this is very unsafe and am not going to wait to report it until after the repair; i've seen at least 40 (i stopped counting) other complaints about a malfunctioning speedometer in 05 trailblazers on aboutautomobile.com (i also have issues with dimming lights and headlights flashing at night). *tr
While driving my 2005 chevy trailblazer the speedometer work for a while and then it says i am going 110 mph. i know i can't be going that fast when i am creeping down the road. i along with several other with the same vehicle have the same problem and it cost over 500.00 to fix this problem. we need this issue to be solved and think it is only fair that chevy has a recall on this problem. this could be a potential hazard to myself and other due to the fact that you can't tell how fast you are going. *tr
Speedometer is very irregular, sometimes 40 -80 miles over the speed you are going, sometimes stuck at 0 and at other times works fine. very dangerous because you don't' know how fast you are going. *tr
Speedometer no longer registers correct speed. gauge reads 110 mph while vehicle is sitting motionless in drive way. while driving speedometer swings wildly. while traveling using gps unit to give speed vehicle speedometer was consistently off by more than 50 mph. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 50 mph, the contact heard a loud noise outside the vehicle. the transmission began to slip and there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on two separate occasions for inspection. the technician stated that the alternator failed. the warranty expired on the vehicle and the manufacturer is in the process of being notified. the vehicle is able to be driven and has not been repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 72,000 and current mileage was 76,000.
The fuel gauge does not work properly. it may show empty, quarter,or half full even though it is full. i see a lot of people have this problem. there should be a recall!! it's no wonder they can't sell them!! *tr
At 58348 miles, the speedometer malfunctioned, would not read zero miles at dead stop, while driving the speedometer would register inaccurately, very difficult to determine road speed, and drive safely. dealer replaced instrument cluster at cost of $362.25. this is a safety item, as one cannot determine the proper speed while driving, it has occurred in many other chevy trailblazers also. it should be recalled. *tr
Speedometer does not read correctly. reads at 120 mph regardless what speed you are driving. have read about too many complaints regarding this same problem. why no recall? *tr
My speedometer would stick at a certain mph and show my speed as much faster than i was really going. each time you would shut of the car, the speedometer would drop 5 mph less until it reached 0. then it would start all over again at 25 mph. this went on for about a week and finally my speedometer quit working all together. *tr
I'm having issues with my 2005 chevy trailblazer. the gas gauge stopped working, it is completely pointing down, now all of the gauges are not working.. my speedometer says i'm going 80-90 miles an hour when i'm at a complete stop. its such a pain, not know how fast you are going, or how much gas you have. i have read a number of complaints in which people are having the same issues..they should really recall what ever is making the gauges do this..it sounds like it is a defect of some sort, and they don't want to fix it. its too bad because i love my trailblazer but wont ever buy another one because there are too many problems with them. *tr
When driving at night and not on the throttle the headlights and instrument lights flash on and off in my 05 trailblazer. it does it every night as i drive home and causes people around me to drive erratically. the truck also suddenly revs while coming to a stop. twice it has caused me to tap the person in front of me while my headlights are flashing so it badly scares people around me. the dealership claims they can find no fault in the truck but the problems are becoming so bad that i am afraid to drive the truck and that is a very bad place to be stuck in. i have read that more then a few people have these issues and that there is no fix according to gm- so i felt that i had better report this here as well. *tr
My speedometer isn't working properly and i can be going approximately 60 miles per hour on the highway and the gauge shows that i am going 25/30 miles an hour and i researched this on the internet and it shows other complaints relating to the same problem...why hasn't gm recalled this problem on the 2005 models? *tr
We own a 2005 trail blazer.........we was driving threw our home town on day and this is a 20 mph zone. my husband looked down and we was going 120mph!!! we took it to our dealer they said it would be about $350.00. wow!!! don't think that we should pay for this...and i do think this should be a recall...cause there is alot of complaint online about 2005 trail blazers. all with this same problem. then about a week our gas gauge also went out.....omg!!! *tr
05 chev. trailblazer speedometer not working. common problem in all models of the trailblazer. gm needs to recall all models and fix accordingly. *tr
Broken speedometer on 2005 chevy trailblazer. *tr
I was driving down the road driving about 40 mph, when i noticed that my speedometer was reading 80 mph and above. by the time i got home it was on 120 mph and now it wont go back down, it just stays on 80 mph until i drive it, then it jumps back up again. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 35 mph, the contact noticed that she was not traveling as quickly as the other vehicles on the road. the speedometer read 120 mph. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the instrument panel failed. the dealer will replace the instrument panel. the vin was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 46,000.
The instrument cluster panel in my 2005 chevy trailblazer is severely out of whack! it started about a year ago when my speedometer told me i was going 90 mph when i was actually going about 50 mph. it eventually corrected itself, but now it goes out every so often without warning. since the time when the speedometer 1st went out, my oil gauge is completely pegged out and will not correct itself, the battery gauge comes and goes, as well as the temperature gauge. i have been reading forums about this problem with trailblazers all over the u.s. and it seems that there should be a recall to have the cluster panel corrected because it is an obvious problem with the gm trailblazers. if you ask me, i believe it can be a serious safety hazard when you are uncertain as to how fast you may or may not be driving. i have read where a lot of people have had their gas gauge go completely out as well. mine tried to quick working for me only one time, but corrected itself within 24 hours. let's hope it doesn't go out like the oil gauge has and the fluctuating speedometer. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer speedometer broken only has 29,540 miles. all of a sudden it stop working only 3 years of ownership, brought brand new. this is an expensive part to purchase and very unfair, ....*tr
Dec 2008 gas gauge went out will no longer read advised chevrolet. i was advised it would be $800.00 to fix and this is a common problem. next my speedometer just went out 12/2011 147000 miles and i find this to be another common problem with chevrolet. *tr
Speedometer is broke mostly on 0 miles per hour while driving. i may be over speed limit without knowing. *tr
When driving sometimes lights will become dim. when adjusting seat to drivers side mirror also turns upward. if opening right side passenger door in back with radio on, radio gets terrible buzzing noise. i have to shut vehicle off and turn back on again. also my cd players has quit working for no reason at all and gets very hot and also sometimes when you start vehicle the mileage gauge will not work. have to shut vehicle off and restart sometimes. this is a 2005 trailblazer. *tr
Speedometer shows wrong speed while driving. it corrects itself after 2-3 days. usually occurs while driving on the highway. *tr
My speedometer is not reading to correct speed on the chevy trailblazer from 2005. it is up and down and when parked could be at zero or 15 mph...it is always changing. this could be very dangerous if you are on the highway or trying watch your speed in a neighborhood. i have seen lots of complaints about this problem. it should be fixed by gm since it is a common problem. i am taking this back to the dealer to see what they can do, but i probably cannot afford to fix it any time soon. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer, the speedometer quit working and also the oil pressure gauge. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the speedometer intermittently malfunctions. on one instance, he was driving approximately 55 mph but the speedometer displayed 90 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealership for a diagnostic testing. the technician stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the fuel gauge was replaced two years ago. he noticed that the engine warning would illuminate on the instrument control panel. he called the manufacturer and was awaiting a response. the vehicle had not been repaired to-date. the current mileage was approximately 61,000. the failure mileage was approximately 51,000.
2005 chevy trail blazer. i've heard several complaints on this speedometer subject, and from what i understand it can be a very expensive procedure, hopefully my complaint can push for a recall. *tr
My headlights and dash lights flicker while driving. also while driving my lights will dim and the blower for heat & a/c will slow and then pick up to normal speed again. it also revs by itself, even in park and will go forward slightly when it does surge. these problems only started after the alternator was replaced. i think it is a safety hazard to have lights flickering and engine surges. *tr
Headlights, dashlight dim, battery gauge jump. the headlights, dashlights and all power dims or cuts out when letting off the gas. when in the gas it works fin. when i let off everything starts dimming and cutting out. at night time people in front of me think i'm wanting them to pull over because the light flash like a police cars would. i see many of the same complaints in msg boards and the dealerships know of the problem but have no fix. they tell you to deal with it. i think its a real safety issue and need to be addresses. *tr
Speedometer would be reading a speed when i was sitting still and would just keep increasing until now it sits way past 120mph and move at all. *tr
While driving at approximately 30 mph, my speedometer suddenly went to 90 mph. i stopped and turned the ignition off. afterwards, the speedometer has steadily increased to the point where it begins at 100 mph. i have no idea how fast i am really going! i have not replaced any parts as this happened last night. moreover, i understand the cost of repair to be rather excessive at ~$500. *tr
