We have classified the 427 complaints from 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Speedometer is broken. just stopped working while driving. *tr
My speedometer in my 2005 chevy trailblazer has started not working on occasion. it will work only after i turn the vehicle off and let it sit a bit. this is very disturbing to me due to the fact that i am a very safe driver and when this happens i feel i am a threat to others on the road. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. after the contact started the vehicle, she noticed that the dashboard was not illuminated. the dealer informed the contact that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the contact also noticed that the oil level indicator stopped working prior to the failure. the current and failure mileages were 72660.
My 2005 trailblazer instrument panel constantly fails - the speedometer stops working which is a safety issue. the gas gauge has been fixed once already and is now broken again. the vehicle has power surges which is another safety issue. the transmission shifts the car up and down when trying to slow down causing power surges. this is another safety issue. the following are other issues which this model vehicle: stereo cd player stopped working, the check engine light comes on when the gas cap light, the lights flicker also. i ought this vehicle used and with a cracked front bumper which the dealer didn't fix (dealer stuck a little bondo on area and repainted it so i thought it was a new bumper when i accepted the car after repair. it cracked in a matter of days) and i know this was caused due to the surges in power. a severe safety issue. the vehicle has serious electrical problems the chevrolet should stand behind and fix. it is not fair to the consumer. i have checked the web and have read many, many other similar complaints. chevy owners should fill a class action lawsuit against chevrolet if they don't do a recall and fix these problems. i experience a fender bender accident when my vehicle didn't stop and bumped another cars back bumper causing an accident and an insurance claim. i am fed up with this vehicle but can't afford to replace it. *tr linda vanauken
Speedometer quit working on 2005 chevy trailblazer - no reason it quit. went completely off of the gauge. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer gas gauge reads empty when full and moves up and down periodically. we never know how much fuel we have another defect the vehicle has is that if we turn the headlights off during the day it causes a short in the taillights .after the same thing happening 3 times ,i noticed the pattern and my wife being pulled over and ticketed made me pay close attention to this pattern. i do not recommend buying a chevy trailblazer or for that matter a chevy ,they have not been very responsive to their loyal customers. *tr
First was the right tail light caught fire and blew fuses, then i get power surges that cause the vehicle to accelerate randomly at the worst times and/or will also stall out, which can be potentially very dangerous or end in a fatal accident, it drops in rpms and lights dim then it accelerates... and the last thing is that the fuel gauge fluctuates dramatically and you can never tell how much fuel you really have... drive 10 miles at quarter of a tank and it either stays close to the same spot or drops and the light comes on for low fuel. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer with 50,000 miles. starting a couple months ago the speedometer regularly malfunctions and gives me the wrong speed. gm refuses to correct the problem and tells me i have to spend $125 to diagnose the problem and possibly over $500 to ultimately fix the problem the problem has happened to many 2005 chevy trailblazer owners and nothing has been done. *tr
My 2005 trailblazer's speedometer will stop working while i am driving. it seems as though it gets too hot either from the heater being on or if i am driving a long distance and it will hit a certain point and the speedometer will just stop working. the first time this happened i was on my way to california for thanksgiving and in the middle of my drive i looked down and i had taken my foot off the gas and instead of my trailblazer slowing down the speedometer kept raising. i had to rely on my speed by my rpm's. i was able to use the fuse box to reset the speedometer and it started working again for only a short time and then it stopped working again. i had to repeat this process about 5 times that weekend. since thanksgiving weekend it has happened several more times only instead of raising in speed the speedometer will stay between 0-30 miles per hour when according to my rpm's i should be going about 65 or 70 mph. i can turn off my trailblazer and let it cool off and then the speedometer will start working again. i have found several places online where trailblazer owners have complained about the same problem. it will cost several hundred dollars to fix, but if other trailblazers are having the same problem then there is obviously a defect with the speedometer which should become a national recall. it is not fun driving and thinking you are going one speed when you are not, and i am surprised there haven't been multiple car accidents from this problem. the driver's electrical panel should not fail in a car and that is a huge safety concern!!!! *tr
The speedometer starting going higher while i was slowing down. it went to 120 mph while stopped. while i was driving on the highway at about 65 or 70 mph the speedometer dipped to 35 mph. then it just stopped working after several times. this vehicle is a 2005 chevy trailblazer lt. *tr
The speedometer in my 2005 chevy trailblazer has broken and i only have 45,000 miles on my vehicle. i heard about a recall or getting assistance from gm to replace but learned it is only for tahoe's, suburban's and trucks. i don't feel that is fair they won't help me and that a speedometer should not wear out that quickly. replacement cost can be $600 - $800. *tr
Just adding another 2005 trailblazer speedometer to the growing list of failures. speedometer quits working so many people are having the same problem . 450.00 to get it fixed i need a bail out to fix it. *tr
Speedometer malfunction on a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer, erratic readings or no movement at all. replace speedsensor did not correct the problem. i believed this is a manufacturing defect.*tr
Headlights intermittently 'flash' for a second during first 5-10 minutes of driving. have replaced alternator and idler pulley. gm suggests letting vehicle idle 1+ minute after start before engaging gear; this sometimes works. dangerous and distracting to other motorists, as it appears to them like my vehicle is flashing its highbeams. *tr
Check engine light has been on for a year. nov. 5, 2009, speedometer malfunctioned. when all the past the 110 speed. when sitting still it reads 110. sometimes it will move up to 80 when sitting still but always goes past 110 when driving. *tr
Erratic fuel gauge, reports no fuel even when fuel available, reports 1/4 tank of fuel available and no fuel may be available or i may have just filled the tank; also reports no fuel or low fuel when tank has been filled. vehicle has stalled out and would not start; was out of fuel but gauge indicated 1/4 tank of fuel. oil gauge has also become erratic; and goes from showing no oil pressure to low oil pressure to very high pressure. have to pull over immediately and check oil level at side of road or where ever available to do so at time. not always safe area to pull off. both issues create very hazardous and dangerous situations for the driver and passengers in the vehicle.
Speedometer gauge is stuck and not moving. dealer will not fix it even though it is a hazard. i have a 2005 trailblazer. *tr
Headlights dim and volt meter drops randomly. most evident at night, of course. sometimes headlights fail completely for several seconds. dealer has replaced alternator and fuse block but neither fix corrected the problem. *tr
I am the original owner of my 2005 chevy trailblazer and the speedometer stopped working completely and the dealer wants $350+ to fix it. i don't have that kind of money! i have been doing my research and discovered how many other people are having the same problem and it should be recalled and fixed by chevy. *tr
My 2005 chevrolet trailblazer lt speedometer has stop working. when we were driving it suddenly went to 120 mph and were actually driving 40 mph. it is not safe to be driving like that! an accident can occur or possibly death! to this date it is still stuck at 120 mph and works erratically! i bought it new in 2005 and only has 30,000 miles! this is a serious and potentially dangerous problem that can cause serious accidents and deaths. i believe gm should be responsible for ensuring that their vehicles are safe for their customers to drive. i would encourage nhtsa to contact gm for a formal recall as this is a very dangerous situation. thank you. *tr
Speedometer failed. *tr
My speedometer stopped working while i was driving down the street near my house, driving at 45 mph when it went out. since then it has not worked and i never know how fast i am going. i called chevy because i had read online that gm is extending the warranty on quite a few cars and trucks that are having this issue and as long as your car has less than 70k miles and/or 7 years old they will fix it at no cost to the car owner. when i spoke to the representative she said that my trailblazer was not included and then made me an appointment with the local dealer. although it was nice to make the appointment i still have to pay the 200 dollar diagnostic fee and the 700 dollars to get it fixed. i see so many complaints online with my year and make that it is inconceivable that this is not a recall. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer ls and i have two complaints regarding part defects that should be investigated. 1. the speedometer sticks. i can be driving along and all of a sudden my speedometer is not moving at all. this is extremely dangerous being that i have no clue how fast or slow i'm going. 2. the fuel light gauge/sensor just completed stop working. the gas needle does not move at all, i have no idea how much fuel is in the tank. this is also extremely dangerous!. i have many friends that own chevy trailblazers who have encountered these same issues and i feel that chevy should fix the problem. i have also read many blogs online where trailblazer owners are complaining of the same issues so this is clearly a problem for thousands of trailblazer owners. i hope that this complaint will help jump start an investigation of these defects, because it is a major problem! i have contacted my local chevy dealer and they stated that it will be $1,200 to fix this issue.. this is outrages being that the problem is something that was caused by chevy. *tr
All the inside and outside lights flicker when driving people think i'm high beaming them, tried to let tb idle for a minute but no good still flickering. *tr
1. driving on the highway, minding my business... 2. speedometer is stuck at 0 when i'm driving, says i'm going 100+ when i'm at a standstill, & is never accurate any more. happens every time i drive now. already one speeding ticket- 55 in a 40 and i had no idea. 3. nothing done yet- dealer says cost will be $500+. *tr
Speedometer on my 2005 was acting up and then stopped working all together...this is a safety issue. and it is amazing to me how many people have complained about this, and nothing is being done with this problem. my husband has a 2005 chevy impala and his speedometer stopped working and his gas gauge. why is this continuing with chevrolet...someone needs to put a stop to this nonsense. oh...and by the way i have already had the cluster replaced just 2 years ago because of a winding noise and then a year later it acts up...hmmm...did they really replace it? take a look at this website for more complaints: http://www.carcomplaints.com/chevrolet/trailblazer/2005/electrical/speedometer_gone_haywire.shtml. *tr
Trailblazer 2005 speedometer sometimes works perfectly, then it will suddenly just sit below zero and stay there until it decides to move again. occasionally, will hover around 10-20 mph, no matter what speed being driven. seems like a consistent complaint. local chevy dealer quoted around $650 to repair. *tr
The car originally stalled while driving on 95 south. now it randomly stalls on an average of twice a month. it is very dangerous, power steering shuts off completely. in order to get in running again, i have to open the fuse box where ever i am able to pull over, usually on a highway and push up onto one of the fuses. i brought it to the dealer and they fixed it for just over $100. after about a month it began doing it again. so the problem has not been fixed. *tr
Is no longer working broken. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the instrument cluster does not function. the fuel gauge does not function. the oil pressure gauge works sporadically as well as the speedometer. chevrolet was contacted and they stated that there was no recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were approximately 76,000. the vin was not available. updated 02/01/11*lj updated 02/03/11
The speedometer is not functioning properly. the needle starts on 120 mph when i am sitting in the driveway. *tr
Tl*the contact owns 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. six months ago while driving 65 mph, the speed odometer failed. the manufacturer stated that they have not received complaints for the failure; therefore, there were no recalls and he should take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 87,000. updated 2/17/10 *cn updated 02/22/10.*jb
A/c resistor and wiring harness melted. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. since july 5, 2009, the fuel gauge dial fails to display the correct amount of gasoline in the tank. the contact feels that this is a safety issue because fuel began to leak out. in addition, the tank could be empty, but the fuel gauge would display a full tank. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 70,000.
I own a 2005 chevy trailblazer with 76,000 miles on it. the gas gauge and speedometer started messing up about a year ago. it stopped working and started back on its own. well now a year later the gas gauge does not work and the speedometer works when it wants. after further study into the problem my mechanic says its the instrument cluster. so i go online to try and find one and instead i find that its an ongoing problem with thousands of trailblazer owners. i call gm to see what can be done and was told since out of warranty to bad. i think that with as many complaints that i have read and know about this is a matter that gm should resolve. they recalled the same cluster that was put in the higher priced vehicles but will do nothing to help us out. please check into this since this is my wife and kids car. i don't feel safe with them riding around without knowing how fast they are going or how much gas they have. [xxx] of chicago, il, petitioned the agency in a letter dated november 27, 2009. the petitioner requests that nhtsa open an investigation into the performance/reliability of the fuel level sensor installed in model year 2005 chevrolet trailblazer vehicles. the petitioner alleges that the fuel tank level sensor is defective and could result in a subject vehicle running out of fuel, stall, and being rear ended by another vehicle. odi will evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
My speedometer has completely stopped working in my '05' trailblazer it has 96,000 miles on it and the gas hand is starting to go out also. *tr
2005 chevy trail blazer. speedometer failed at 5900 miles.. 06-24-09 i looked up safty recals there are alot of the same poblems on this vehicle. *tr
Speedometer stop working on 2005 chevy trailblazer, and also the gas gauge does not work. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the speedometer and the oil gauge failed. the dealer stated the speed control senor had failed and the failure was common but was not recalled. in addition, the speed control sensor also controlled the oil pressure gauge. the contact was concerned with not being able to determine if the oil pressure was dropping in the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 114,000.
Gas gauge reads empty regardless of actual fuel level. it started out as an intermittent, and periodic event. it then would dependably happen immediately after fill-up at the pump. now, it is continuous. *tr
The speedometer has stopped working. the gas gauge does not work. also the fuses for the power plug ins continue to blow. these are safety hazards for my wife and kids while traveling alone.
The chevrolet trailblazer has a history of the gauge cluster in the dash being defective. it seems that many consumers are having problems with them going out. when this happens the fuel gauge and speedometer do not work. this is a huge problem and it seems that chevrolet does not feel the need to help the consumers correct this problem. we have checked into the time an cost of the repairs and it is very time consuming and expensive for the consumer. *tr
I bought a 2005 chevy trailblazer. it just hit 90,000 miles. the speedometer would not go back down after i slowed down. i was at a complete stand still and it said i was going 60mph. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the entire instrument cluster failed. the dealer was not contacted and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 102,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while refueling the vehicle, the contact noticed that the empty fuel warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact stated that the fuel gauge reading was inaccurate and would fluctuate sporadically. the vehicle was taken to two different independent mechanics. the mechanic stated that the entire instrument panel would need to be replaced. also, the contact stated that the speedometer reading would also fluctuate intermittently and provide inaccurate readings. there was a concurrent investigation for the failure under nhtsa action number: dp10001 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) that the contact believed could have been related to the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
At the time of purchase the owners noticed the rear brake lights did not work. the owners immediately return the car to the place of purchase for replacement of the brake lights. several weeks later there was an issue with the vehicle speakers and that seemed to indicate an issue with the electrical in the car. while listening to the radio at any volume (low, medium or high) a high pitch, frequency or reverberation would happen. this is only when the radio is played, not when listening to cd's. the temporary solution is to firmly hit the middle arm rest to stop the reverberation. it's an annoyance but could potentially lead to other electrical issues and enormous costs. please advice of either safety recalls, defects and possible service repair to the vehicle. *jb
The speedometer on my 2005 chevy trailblazer is going haywire. once the vehicle is at a complete stop, in park, the speedometer read any where from 35 - 45 mph. after several hours in park the needle will eventually make it back to "0". while driving the speedometer is anywhere from 10 miles slow/fast of the true speed i am going. *tr
Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary, regular driving conditions. the speedometer on my 2005 chevy trailblazer does not work. it is continuously reading the wrong speed and skips when moving. it will go all the way to 120mph and then beyond when i know i am only going 50. at 55 to 65 miles an hour the speedo sticks then continues to climb. the only way i have figured out how to change it back is to turn on and off the vehicle until it resets back to 0. this takes for ever and is damaging to the vehicle. it only goes back 4 mph at a time whenever i have to do this. it happens almost everyday now and i am livid with my vehicle. i will never buy a gmc again. *tr
My trail blazer check engine light stays on we cannot reset it. the full gauge says it has more gas then what it does, i have to guess to avoid running our of gas. speedometer stops working then it fixes its self. the radio and lights sometimes stay on, and kills my battery. *tr
