Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Late evening, i was driving down the freeway in a snow storm and suddenly my engine power dropped significantly. i could not go over 10 mph and barely made it up the off ramp to be stranded 3 1/2 hours away from home. i spent a total of $700 to get the alternator and i-pulley replaced. the old part was not returned or i would have had to pay an additional $50. *tr

I own a 2005 chevy trailblazer. since purchasing this vehicle i have had several problems. i am the second owner. i bought it with 24,000 miles. the first thing was the engine light turning on for no apparent reason. tests would show nothing. then the whining started. this was fixed at the dealership. next the flickering lights. it only seems to happen at night (or that is when i notice them). when the flickering started the lunging started. this is when i am coming to a stop or going slow my car seems to jump forward for no apparent reason. the dealership found nothing wrong with my car when they checked these problems out. next when making u-turns my car would just die. since it is an automatic i would have to then put it into park and restart my car. again when i took it to the dealership, they found nothing. my speedometer has started to jump or fail to work altogether. and most recently the engine light turned on again and and my car was running as though it was going to die. upon taking it to the dealership, they ran $500.00 worth of test to tell me that my car at 60,000 miles was firing incorrectly in the 1st cylinder. this is going to cost me $4,000.00. *tr

My vehicle headlights in my 2005 chevrolet trailblazer, blink, flicker or flash when too much power is going in, i don't think this vehicle has a big enough alternator, but the dealer or gm will not do anything to help me, they said its normal. if its normal that the headlights flicker, i would have never bought this vehicle. it is just so frustrating to have a vehicle in a shop when you need it for day to day living. this has been going on for 8 months now. this could kill someone and according to multiple blog sites this is a problem for a lot of people. *tr

I purchased my '05 trailblazer new off the lot never had any problems until the speed odometer stopped working. couple years later my oil & gas gage stopped working. i based my speed off my rpm & calculate my gas mileage after each fill up. now my dashboard lights are dimming & i've noticed on many occasions my headlights flicker...i have replaced the battery twice & the water pump twice. now when my check engine light or this other little chk gage light comes on, i don't know if a malfunction of if something is truly wrong. now it's running rough, acts as if it wants to cut off. they have checked all that they can but because the chk engine light isn't on, there's no way for them to identify the problem. and unfortunately, when the mechanic rides with me of course the car won't do it...and although, these are separate issues i can't wonder if replacing the battery is connected the same system as the dashboard. i've been told by 2 differ mechanics it would cost up to $600 to replace the whole system. but after reading all the complaints, many having the same issue as me i can't help but wonder if this problem could or should be on a recall & if not, why? if you view the complaints why not look into the very present & persistent problem! its very frustrating & aggravating to play a guessing game when your up & down a highway daily! not to mention a safety hazard! surely, your company isn't so money hungry that you can't take responsibility for you product & offer to pay for some or all the costs to repair! i'm a single mother of 3 & i was blessed enough to pay my car off a year ago but i've paid more in repair costs & stressing whether or not i'll make it safely to & from my destination! i never had this many issues with my grand jeep cherokee. i am truly disappointed in your vehicle... *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the speedometer displays inaccurate readings. he is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer to determine the cause of the failure. he called the manufacturer, but was referred back to the dealer. the vin was unknown. the failure and current mileages were 83,000.

The headlamps and dashboard lights dim and brighten as you drive. it is an intermittent problem. chevy has said this is normal for the trailblazer and not repairable. this is a safety issue. *tr

My speedometer does not work at all. the heater and a/c don't work. my fuel gauge does not work. the interior lights inside my car do not work, the right front passenger window does not work. basically my entire dashboard does not work. what did chevy do about it?? sent me a letter stating they are willing to pay half of the cost to repair the fuel gage but it would have to be fixed at a chevy dealership. i could get the same thing fixed at my mechanic and pay the full amount and it would still cost me less than having the dealership fix it and chevy paying half the costs. don't think i will be buying another chevy anytime soon. *tr

I have a 2005 trailblazer and the lights will dim and the battery gauge will drop down. i have taken this to the dealer and they can never seem to find anything wrong. i have read on the internet that gm has no answer for why this is happening. i have people that will pull over for me because they think that i am flashing my lights at them. this has been happening since i got the suv 2 1/2 years ago. *tr

2005 chevy trailblazer headlights flashing after dark. consumer stated that the headlights flash around dusk or after dark and interior lights dim. she states that people in traffic believe she is doing this on purpose and she is not. *kb the consumer stated the headlights were on automatic and then they started to go dim. the lights on the dash were fading in and out as well. *jb

Speedometer quit working at about 70,000 miles, headlight burned out and fried the wires, air conditioning has not worked for 4 years, cd player does not work, winding noise (fixed once when vehicle was 1 year old) when driving. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer, on 1-20-08 the speedometer failed, it stuck on 80 + mph ( when it should be at zero ) and would only go higher in motion. on 1-23-08 my wife took vehicle to phillips chevy in frankfort, ill. we are told that in instrument cluster is the problem and needs to be replaced, we are not covered under new car warranty because we have exceeded the mileage. i checked with chevy to see if there was a recall in force and there is not. it seems that there are numerous other gm and chevy owners for various years that have same problem and there is a law suit in washington and oregon that are seeking class-action status. i feel that this has been an ongoing problem with gm and chevy and that they should issue a recall to repair or replace as needed. *tr

Speedometer quit working , indicator needle goes up and down, even when car is parked. *tr

Alternator failed. *tr

Speedometer stopped working permanently. *tr

While driving above 30mph, if take foot off accelerator, headlights will dim to almost no light as will the dash lights, on off, on off, when press on the accelerator, lights will go on normally with same brightness. dome light button to left of steering wheel will work once every 50 tries, lights on left side of radio do not work, cd player will not take cds. i am unable to drive my vehicle at night, it has been to a certified chevrolet dealership twice now, they have stated that everything is running correctly and that they cannot find anything wrong with the vehicle. the speedometer will read 0 (no matter how fast i'm going) which is apparently a known problem with chevy vehicles, but they are not willing to fix it in the trailblazer. *tr

I have a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer ls v6, and i was going down the interstate when i notice my speedometer read 30 mph. i knew i was going faster than this so i pulled over to the side of the road and cut the engine off and restarted it. it began to work fine until the following monday evening when it did it again, this time only registering 0 mph when i was driving approximately 30 mph. finally on 01/13/08, i got in it to go to work and it was registering 120 mph but the vehicle was at a standstill. *tr

Just as so many other 2005 trailblazer owners, neither my speedometer or gas gauge has worked for some time. i refuse to pay the cost to have these repaired at $500 + on a vehicle that i feel is still new. to deal with the problem, i purchased a garmin which will tell you what speed you are going and have figured out with my gas gauge that when i have gas, my low fuel light stays on and when i am getting low, it goes off. so i work backwards, when my low fuel light goes off, i fill my gas tank and monitor the miles i have driven. why is gm not held responsible for this problem, it is obviously widespread. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trail blazer. while driving 55 mph, the speedometer gauge fell to zero mph without warning. the dealer stated there is a recall. however, his vin was not included. the current mileage is 64,610 and failure mileage was 64,510. updated 01-29-08. *kb updated

When driving at night only, the headlights and dashboard lights flicker and dim along with the voltage gauge dropping down. after 10 or so seconds, the voltage gauge resets to 14 and the lights brighten to normal. the flickering occurs at steady driving speeds as well as during slow-down. *tr

Voltage drops occasionally while vehicle is running. this causes my light to dim and engine light to come on. when this happens my vehicle runs funny. i haven't replaced anything yet. i'm still trying to get to a mechanic. *tr

Since the purchase of my 2005 chevrolet trailblazer i have had problems with my lights(interior and exterior) flickering (i have noticed this problem at night). my dealership has tried many things on their own and suggestions from chevrolet. the alternator was changed, lights switches replaced, computer reprogrammed. this problem is not being resolved by chevrolet. this problem has some potential to cause serious problems if the events occur during night time driving. *tr

Speedometer randomly quits working. started at 70,000 miles. *tr

Speedometer gives an inaccurate reading or sometimes stops working altogether. this problem began 2-3 weeks ago and from other trailblazer owners that i have discussed this with online it is a very common problem. i didn't realize that the speedometer was functioning improperly until it became very obvious - it was registering 30 mph when i was traveling with the flow of traffic on an interstate freeway. when the vehicle has been turned off and sits for a while, the speedometer seems to reset itself and works properly again for a while, then the problem begins again. from what my research indicates, it is a bad stepper motor that causes the problem, which requires specialized tools and expertise to replace. the cost is in the hundreds of dollars. given that this is such a common problem and compromises the safety of the vehicle, i strongly feel that this issue should be addressed by nhtsa. thank you.*cn

2005 chevy trailblazer purchased with 19,000 miles on it in 2006. december 07 while driving home at night, lights began to flicker. dealer said was necessary to reset computer to resolve the problem. after computer reset, check engine light turned on. took it back to dealer (pulled code for air check valve), reset the light. two days later, engine light came on again and was taken back to dealer where it pulled another code... after the third time, the dealer contacted gm and were told to reset the computer back to original setting and either the light would go off and the lights would flash or the light would stay on and the lights would stay normal. needless to say, within three days, the lights flashed and the check engine light came on. i have contacted gm several times and was told that they would not warranty it once they do figure out the source of the problem and could not give an estimated date as to when that would be! i will never purchase another gm product again. i think a class-action lawsuit should be started!! *tr

I own a 2005 chevy trailblazer and i have encountered numerous problems since purchasing this vehicle brand new from the dealer. i have had to have sensors replaced, fuel tank has had to be worked on, and now the main most costly is i am having to replace the transmission. this vehicle has approx. 84,000k miles on it and is only two years old. please help to see if this should have been a factory recall. i have always had my vehicle serviced at the dealer where i purchased it at. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated the entire instrument panel would operate intermittently. in addition, the fuel gauge and odometer displayed inaccurate readings while driving. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the instrument cluster would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

I have a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer with a defective speedometer and gas gauge. it stopped working completely around 40,000 miles, shortly after the warranty ran out. i have read several hundred complaints from other trailblazer owners with the same problems. since i do not have the money to pay for the problem to be fixed, i am driving "blind" on a daily basis, hoping that i am not speeding nor traveling too slow, thus adding to the traffic problems on the az highways. i have heard of many recalls on other autos with the same problems, but for some reason the trailblazer was not included in the recall. i pray the nhtsa finds a way to help us trailblazer owners in getting this terrible problem fixed asap at chevrolet's expense. thank you for your time. *tr

I own a 2005 trailblazer. its a great vehicle but problem's of great concern have risen. i would like to petition to have chevrolet to display a campaign for the recall and correction of a fuel gage problem which myself and many, many trailblazer owners are having. it involves the fuel gage not functioning properly displaying empty and or a variety of levels of the fuel tank. the amount of complaints which i have found on the internet of trailblazer owners should warrant an action from chevrolet to repair the problem with no costs to the owners of these vehicles. please investigate and you will see the situation. i hope an action to correct is the responsibility of chevrolet because it is definitely an design issue. why do the owners have to pay something that is not functioning properly and definitely an issue from the manufacturer. the other issue is very serious. the doors lock automatically when the vehicle is not in drive or the engine is running. case in point, my wife stopped at the service station to fill up with fuel, left the keys in the ignition close the door and started to fuel up. part way in the filling as she stood there outside of the vehicle, her purse inside on the seat and the doors locked on their own. she then had to barrow someone's cell phone to call on-star to unlock the doors. i did not think much on it and thought she had did something to trigger the action. well one day i was in the sitting truck and waiting for my wife. i have the key in the ignition, the engine not running and then the doors locked by themselves. i did nothing to trigger this. now i believe there is something very wrong. this locking by themselves will be very serious if a mother has an child or infant inside the vehicle and he or she is possibly getting fuel or something. what if this happened and the child or infant started choking or convulsions or a very hot day and help is many minutes away. does chevrolet not care? *tr

Speedometer in my 2005 chevy trailblazer ext malfunctioned. it read 80 mph at a dead spot. it would vary its readings, but it was not accurate. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while the vehicle is being driven or idling, the electrical system shuts down. the failure occurred at night when shutting off the headlights and the instrument panel; however, the engine does not shut off, only the electrical system. the failure has occurred on six occasions. speed was not a factor. the dealer replaced one of the circuit panels, but the electrical system continues to fail. the contact stated that the dealer was giving them the run around after extending the electrical system warranty to 100,000 miles. she also stated that there has been electrical failure since the vehicle was purchased. the purchase date was unknown. the current mileage was 50,000 and failure mileage was 5,000. the consumer stated the problem still exists. updated 12/04/07 *tr

I have a chevy trailblazer 2005 and the lights keep flickering at night time when you increase and decrease power, i have reported it but nothing. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the seat controls failed and no longer moved the seats properly. the fuses were replaced, but the contact stated that they smelled as if they had burned not long afterwards. she had the fuses tested and was informed that there was a shortage in the fuse box that could result in a fire. the chevrolet dealer stated that they would not repair the vehicle for free because the vehicle was not under warranty. the contact also stated that when she applied the brakes, she heard a clicking noise coming from the fuse box. the vin, engine size, number of cylinders, and purchase date were unknown. the current and failure mileages were 71,239.

Lights (internal and external) dim or flash when the gas is let off while driving. this is a very dangerous situation, people pull over, flash you back, and in one instance i police officer pulled me over. it seems to happen worse when the temperature is colder than 50 degrees. it's been to 2 different service departments and is still under warranty but they either negate the problem as normal or claim they can't replicate it. some gm explanations refer to low speeds and brief drive times, i can say first hand it's happened every mile of a 300 mile trip, multiple times. i've read numerous identical complaints in your complaint database. is it going to take a horrible accident to get you to make gm fix this problem? *tr

My headlights flicker and the voltage meter bounces around. the flickering headlights are a danger to myself and others as those ahead of me think i am trying to flag them down. *tr

Bought the 2005 trailblazer new, have taken it to have the flashing lights fixed on 3 occasions, but they could not duplicate the problem, so they could not fix the problem. then while on a trip the switch went out, and was replaced at a dealer where the vehicle was not purchased, the lights quit flashing. now the alternator has gone out, only 48,000 miles. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the ignition switch failed. the dealer replaced the ignition switch and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). in addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired for the exhaust manifold crack, the water pump, the evaporator cord, the headlight wiring harness (which melted and caused the light bulb to fail), the hub assembly, the instrument panel cluster, the motor blower resistor wires, and the door locks. the contact also stated that the rear windows would not open or close and the rear hatch lock system and instrument panel cluster failures persisted. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 83,875.

The fuel hand has quit working, it has not worked since october of 2007, and it is to expensive to fix it and i know of three other peoples who's vehicles are doing the same thing and they are the same year model as mine although some are gmcs envoys and some are chevy trailblazers. *tr

I have a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer and while driving at certain times the headlights will flash (bright -> dim -> bright) in a fast fashion. i believe that this could potentially cause an accident were people think you are allowing them to pull out in front of them, ect. i have taken it to my dealer and they say there is no fix for the problem. from what other people are saying on forums chevy says this is "normal". due to the potential for an accident i believe these vehicles should be recalled. here is a site i found regarding the issue http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-trailblazer/tucllqk4uif5na0ut. i'm having the same issue described here and i belief it causes an unsafe condition while driving at night. *jb

On numerous occasions, i have had issues with the headlights dimming upon slowing from highway speeds. i was told that this was normal function, and could not be reproduced by the dealer. today, i was informed by another dealer that the altenator bearings have gone bad, and the altenator needs to be replaced. vehicle has 57k miles.

Lights flash dim then bright shortly after brake is pressed. the problem is intermittent. *tr

Had to have transmission replaced (a whole other sick story:( ). when i got my truck back, second day on the freeway, the speedometer started to climb even though i was staying with the flow of traffic. i twent around to the 100s. when i got home it spun straight down not stopping at the zero like it normally did. took it back to mechanic at least twice maybe 3 times, he did something that fixed it for a few days, but then it would mess up again. as it is right now, it is parked but saying it's at 100+ mph. reading other peoples same problem, it will cost too much for me to pay the dealer to fix. i have even gotten a speeding ticket because of this (my first in 20 years!)!!! *tr

My alternator went bad, having problems with my lights getting brighter for a second during acceleration and then it goes back to normal. winding noise coming from my alternator started at 36,175 miles right after the warranty ends. *tr

Alternator bearing started going out at 37,000 miles. *tr

Basically my 2006 chevy trailblazer continues to go dead while driving or not. i have taken it to the dealership more than 5x and they still cant find anything wrong with it. sometimes it stops in the middle of driving and at other times if i go nowhere it will not crank up. since the purchase of my brand new vehicle the dealership has put in 2 new batteries which was not the problem as they stated. they have also kept my vehicle for at least a week to see what i was talking about which did occur. one day they were driving it the next day it wouldn't start. they jumped the vehicle and put it on the computer still got nothing. this is posing a problem for me since i have 3 young kids all under the age of 5 that i drive around daily. what might happen when the truck stop in the middle of traffic with my little ones! *jb

My head lights and dash board lights dim and flicker. my fuel gauge is never correct it will show empty right after a fill-up. *tr

Dash lights come on all the time .had it in to local dealer .we have took it in all the time they have replace everything they could to find problem.still didn't fix it. warranted run out.even took in and pd for ourselves still not fixed lights come on now and stay on.can't keep taking in don't have money to take in. *tr

I purchased a 2005 chevy trailblazer on 4/15/05 shortly there after i was having problems with a whining sound. i took it to a dealer and i was told that it was the ignition pulley. i contacted the corporate office of chevrolet to inquire about assistance with payment considering i was about 3, 000 miles over the warranty. after several calls chevrolet absorbed this cost. then in sept. of 2005, my husband totaled his car and i purchased a 2005 trailblazer for him. again this car began making similar noises and my husband was driving home with our 2 year old son and the car began smoking. my husband immediately pulled off the road and contact roadservice. once we took it to a mechanic he said that it was the ignition pulley which caused the transmission to die. we took it to a chevrolet dealership and they said that was the transmission. i contacted the corporate office once again and this time they would not offer any financial assistance. it seems that the dealership said that it was the result of an oil change that did not occur at the 3000. they, the dealership based this off of a sticker that was in the window of the car. when i went to look at the car they was no oil sticker in the window. despite that, i had contacted the chevy office about the same whining noise that i heard in my car (the ignition pulley) that my husband was experiencing in his car. this is still not resolved. we were told to fix this car it would cost $10,000.00, yes, for a new transmission. we have since towed to home in order to avoid storage fees. here sits a 2005 chevy trailblazer with approx. 50,000.00 and a new transmission is needed. we do not have the money to fix this and also pay the car note on it as well. as a read reports, this is a similar problem with many many trailblazers. there needs to be a recall on this vehicle for faulty transmissions!!!!! *tr

I bought a 2005 trailblazer used in june of 2007 with 34,000 miles. since then i have had the rubber seal around the license plate fixed 3 times for the glue melting and running down the tailgate. the air conditioner when ran for extended trips doesn't blow like it should, the dealer supposedly fixed that twice. the whole light flickering thing is annoying and probably could be avoided with a stronger alternator. the check engine light came on for secondary air injection malfunction conveniently after the warranty has expired, its all due to a crappy check valve that is made with a metal that corrodes easily causing it to stick. i understand that problems happen but this vehicle only has 38,000 miles on it. general motors knows about the problems they just don't want to go broke fixing their mistakes. or just do some quality control on vehicles before they are massed produced. *tr

Since the purchase my tb engine will stop when ac and heater is on on stop light, that it was delaying while driving. it got worse after "warranty was out, i believe in july 2007.no one can find the cause, but thinking its all system faulty., engine, electronics, fans. could i afford a new car, i would not keep this car, as now i know it was the worse year making of all. now i only pray to stay alive while driving and not get into some beyond my control but faulty gm model makers

2005 chevy trailblazer's instrument cluster malfunction. *tr
