We have classified the 427 complaints from 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Instrument cluster malfunctioning. speedometer, tachometer and oil pressure gauges are inaccurate. also had to replace fuel sensor/sending unit before vehicle reached 50,000 miles. *tr
I own a 2005 chevy trailblazer and the speedometer is 10 to 50 mph faster than i am actually traveling and some times is slower than actual speed traveling. it has been happening since thanksgiving 2008 on long trips. in the beginning it would correct itself and work properly till it was on a trip at interstate speeds then go crazy. now the cruise control does not work from time to time and speedometer never goes back to zero it stops around 40 to 60 mph sitting still. *tr
Instrument cluster. my speedometer has failed. my fuel gauge had failed a few months ago. my doors lock by themselves even when you are out of the vehicle. a couple of times away on a trip and locked out of the vehicle. my lights flicker at night to almost off. chevrolet said they don't see a problem however if you get on line you are able to check many complaints about the trailblazer of the same situation. why does the consumer have to pay out of pocket for a product with many failures that should not have happened. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer that the speedometer gauge has started sticking and will not return to zero. after searching on the internet i found out this is a very well known problem. the stepper motors are going bad. from what i understand the dealers know this is a factory flaw that they will not fix them under a recall. i would like to formally file a complaint to have this added for a recall. *tr
Nearly eight months after the purchase of the chevy trailblazer (april 2008) and while traveling from tennessee to new york the instrument panel that controls the rpm, odometer, speed, fuel gauge, oil level, temperature, etc. completely stopped working. while traveling in the state of new york on i-90 e the driver had no indication of the vehicle speed. when shifting from the left passing lane to the nearest middle lane a ny state trooper clocked the vehicle speed at approximately 90+ miles per hour. the driver was sighted with a speeding ticket during the thanksgiving holiday weekend. the vehicle owner had the instrument panel replaced at a cost of more than $500. however, soon after the instrument panel was replaced the gas sensor stopped working. the owner complained to the chevy service department but was told that this was a separate issue and not caused by the replacement of the instrument panel. the owner checked for recalls on the internet but found more complaints of the same and no recall information. since the gas sensor/gauge/fuel level indicator does not work the vehicle owners have run out of gas at least 3 separate times. once on a friday night at 10:00 p.m. on a dark winding road. another time on a very busy 4-lane thorough fare the vehicle owners with a passenger ran out of gas at a stop light. most recently was approximately 3-weeks ago. the vehicle owners have purchased at least 3 new gas cans since we cannot tell with the vehicle is full of gas or not. when the gas tank is filled up there's no way of knowing and the owners cannot tell when the vehicle is running low on fuel since the "low gas" fuel light stays on most of the time or the gas gauge rarely moves passed "e". the owners were quoted that the cost to repair would be upwards of $500+. *jb
The vehicle in question is a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer with under 40,000 miles and very well-maintained. this is a continuing concern and have had the dealer mechanics look at this problem. while driving at any speed, the lights will dim dramatically when the accelerator pedal is released. the headlights and interior lights dim and return after accelerating for any length or magnitude and then return to normal brightness. typically, they will dim 3 times. i am concerned about how severe this could become. the dealership said gm acknowledges this happening but says it is normal and no repair is available. this does not happen all the time but does happen 2-3 times a week and inconsistently. i cannot identify what causes it or what conditions consistently exist. however, this cannot be normal or safe. *tr
The speedometer on my 2005 chevrolet trailblazer went haywire last weekend. on tuesday with my wife driving our 3 month old infant to daycare, and herself to school, the gauge on the speedometer quit completely and currently is pointing straight down and will not move regardless of the speed that i am traveling. *tr
I recently bought a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer and suddenly the speedometer began sticking, and not working, then working again. unfortunately when it does work, it does not tell you the correct speed that you are traveling at. this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed to general motors. it continuously works then stop, and displays inaccurate speeds. looking at the complaints on this website there are numerous people having the same problem. *tr
I have a 2005 trailblazer and the speedometer is not working correctly sometimes is stays on zero and then there are times it reads 120miles when im guessing i'm going around 30 miles and there are times when in park it reads any where from 40 to 60 mph. has of now i do not have the means to fix the problem and not that i feel i should have to pay out of pocket seeing how i believe this is a gm problem and not mine are the other hundreds of gm owners with the same problem! this is a safety issue that should be resolved as soon as possible....oh and it is a everytime i drive this gm product occurrence,,,i never know what speed i am truly going!!! *tr
Sudden speedometer failure. *tr
Speedometer stopped working. it started out 4 months ago. first it would stick, then free itself and work fine. now it just stays at zero. i live in montana, and we have many dirt roads. i was driving along one dirt road last month, and i thought i was driving at a safe speed. a turn came in the road, as i approached the turn, my vehicle started to fishtail, i almost flipped and rolled down the hill on the other side of the road. i managed to correct and continue on. *tr
When driving at night typically while "coasting" between 30-50 mph my headlights on my trailblazer dim, the battery charge goes down, and the blower stops working for just a second. after researching this on the internet i have noticed that many other people are having a similar, and unresolved problem with their trailblazers as well. this is dangerous because headlights are necessary, also something that should not be a consistency with many consumers. mine is a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer ls. i hope is matter is looked into more since there is a huge problem that many customers are having that is getting ignored. we need someone to look out for us! *tr
Speedometer stopped working, some times it does start working, but out of action most of the time. *tr
I have an 2005 chevy trailblazer that the lights constantly are flashing. they dim and then come very bright again non-stop. this can not be safe because for several instances they are so dim that you can't see in the dark. i have had the vehicle in several times when it was under warranty and gm said it was normal when the fan kicks on. well it is not normal or is it safe. i can not manually flick the lights as fast as they flicker when i am driving down the road. it is very unsafe and gm needs to find a fix for it. *tr
Speedometer worked fine then started going in and out, now completely stopped working, spoke with several other trailblazer owners same problem, spoke with a worker at gm stated several vehicles have been repaired for problem. *tr
Headlights and dashlights flicker erratically that it almost looks like you are flashing your lights at oncoming motorists. have had it to the dealer more that six times for this without resolve. the dealer says it is normal, and they don't care if we get killed. *tr
When driving at night, my headlight dim/brighten on their own. have been told there is nothing that gm will do for me, this was reported to the deal the day i bought the car and i have several work orders for the dealership trying to find the problem, but could not find anything and there is no recall for it. so now, when i drive at night, people think i am flashing my lights at them. i have even gone to another dealer and they say they hear alot of people complaining about this and there is something wrong with some type of programming, but gm does not have a fix. this is becoming dangerous. *tr
The speedometer, fuel gauge & oil pressure gauge do not work. i've look this problem up and there are thousands of complaints regarding these issues - why hasn't this been recalled!!! *tr
Speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure gauge all giving inaccurate readings! i don't know any car, no matter what year or make which has these problems! only gm! it is very dangerous to not know how fast or slow you're going. impeding flow of traffic. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer lt, and i have noticed this strange sound lately when i start it up and it gets louder as you drive it. my father said that it is the bearings and the alternator, so i decided to look it up on the internet and saw multiple complaints on this issue with this particular model. i was told to file a complaint on a site, and was directed by many others who have experienced this issue. i am not happy, and i still owe on this vehicle and the warranty is conveniently up just as this is happening. i want this correct, and someone contacted gm and they stated that there is an issue with the pump and the electrical, well then they need to recall this vehicle and fix it for free. *tr
Speedometer is not working properly. sometimes works, sometimes not. cannot accurately gauge what speed you're travelling. *tr
After i have been driving for 20-30 minutes my speedometer stops functioning. in city driving situations, the speedometer needle drops to zero and stays there for the entire trip. in highway driving situations when the cruise control is in use, the speedometer "sticks." when i touch the breaks or the gas to speed up/slow down the speedometer needle stays at whatever speed i was previously driving and stays there for the rest of the trip. once the car has been parked and turned off for approximately an hour, the speedometer can be reset by starting the car and turning it off until the needle returns to zero. this problem started when my trailblazer had approximately 55,000 miles and has persisted since. the dealership told me that this problem isn't covered under the warranty and i would be responsible for the $450-550 cost to replace the instrument cluster. they also said that this is a prevalent problem with 2005 trailblazers but it won't be covered under a silent warranty unless more complaints are filed. this is a serious and potentially dangerous problem that can cause serious accidents and deaths, and i believe chevy should be responsible for ensuring their vehicles are safe for their customers to drive. *tr
Speedometer malfunctioning (need instrument panel cluster) fuel level system malfunctioning. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving at an unknown speed, the contact noticed that the speedometer was stuck. the failure occurs intermittently. he currently has an appointment with the dealer. the failure mileage was 55,158.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the ignition switch failed in his vehicle and was replaced by the dealer. the resistance pig tail (wiring harness), the fuel pump module, and the clutch also failed; however, the dealer stated that the contact must pay for the repairs. the dealer stated that there were no recalls for the vehicle and it cannot be repaired for free. the failure mileage was 76,000. 4/01/09 *nj the water pump, pulley and serpentine belt was replaced. updated 04/09/09. *jb
I own a 2005 trailblazer and have had several problems with it. currently the issue i am dealing with is the speedometer. several weeks ago, my speedometer while driving at approx 30 mph went all the way around past 120 mph and stuck. following that, every time i started my car, it would decrease 10 mph until it went back to 0 mph. it worked fine for a while and now i am having a problem again with the needle spun all the way around and does not move when i am driving. i understand this is a common problem with this year model and feel that is definitely a safety hazard when you really have no idea how fast you are going, it is a guessing game. *tr
The speedometer went out on my trailblazer. it started where it was 10 miles an hour faster than my actual speed. i turned the car off and left it for a few hours. when i turned it back on and drove it had fixed its self. a couple of weeks past and it started to go up and down. no consistency of speeds. now it wont work at all. it will even make complete turns and stop where there is no numbers. speedometer no longer works at all. *tr
1.) no events took place dashboard cluster just failed. 2.) speedometer, oil gage, rpm, gas gauge everything went haywire, impossible to tell speed... 3.) my understanding is the dash board cluster is bad, its 450-600 dollars to repair, there has been alot of complaints but no recall yet? this should be a recall, this issue is well documented and known about... this is a safety issue, the speedometer should work, the instruments should work. *tr
Speedometer on my trailblazer showed a wildly inaccurate speed reading. this reading was very low and could have resulted in a speeding/ safety situation. the speedometer could give a false reading allowing the driver to enter a curve or city at an unsafe speed. at a stoplight the needle pointed straight down instead of zero. i contacted gm who informed me that there are not enough complaints on this specific model to warrant a recall. as i understand it the components causing the failure in the models being recalled are the same as those in trailblazers. my vehicle also has the dimming/flickering lights at night. gm has a technical bulletin out that says this is normal. there has to be a reason for these issues. i don't call losing lights at night normal. nor do i have confidence that the lights will not fail completely. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge was not functioning correctly. the gauge would show that the fuel level was empty and caused the indicator to illuminate. the dealer stated that the failure was caused by a faulty fuel sensor, which would cost approximately $700 to repair. the vehicle has not been repaired. most recently, the speedometer malfunctioned and would become stuck on 40 or 90 mph. occasionally, the contact would have to use the rpms to measure her speed. she had not taken the vehicle to the dealer or notified the manufacturer. the current mileage was approximately 83,000 and failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
Speedometer malfunction. *tr
About 2 weeks ago, my 05 trailblazer began having "no start" problems. sometimes it would start and sometimes not. during times it would not start, i could not shift it out of park. if i turn the key off and back on again it would start. but i took it to the dealership to find out what was going on, and of course, they could not duplicate the problem. so i continued driving it with this off and on problem for 2 weeks until one day i was driving on the interstate with my son, mother and father in the vehicle. all of a sudden the motor just killed! luckily there was no one behind me and i was able to pull over to the side of the road. as i was pulling over though it was difficult because the power brakes and power steering were lost. my son was very upset and nervous. this time at the dealership they confirmed it was the ignition switch. this is the second time replacing it since buying the vehicle new. even the technician admitted that trailblazers have alot of trouble with ignition switches but said there is no recall because it's not a "safety issue". so my engine dying while i'm traveling 70mph on the interstate with family in the vehicle poses no safety issue? i feel that chevrolet should issue a recall and reimburse me for my costs as my warranty is expired. by the way, other problems i've had with this vehicle include the idler pulley, brake lights going bad and melting into the terminal, speedometer malfunction, cd player broken, glue around license plate frame oozing and melting, broken latch on storage compartment in between front seats, faulty thermostat causing engine light to come on, and problems with the back hatch door. next vehicle i buy will be a reliable toyota or nissan. can't wait to get rid of this chevy. *tr
Gas gauge quit working, cost to fix at dealership est. $1800, exterior lights flicker from high to low beam while driving, dealership cant find problem, car seems to "jump" or leap forward while coasting or when apply brake, dealership cant find the problems or cause, car stalls and rpm drop if gas pedal not pushed, windshield wipers started automatically and wont turn off. had to take fuse out, therefore no wipers. all these items are a safety hazard to the family driving. the only problem the dealership could find was the gas gauge sensor which is not under warranty and cost $1800. one thing after another is going wrong with this vehicle and i will never buy another one or recommended one. this has been going on for over a year now. no one can find the "problem". *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer which was purchased in 2007. while driving 30mph, he noticed a burning wire odor, turned the vehicle off and discovered that a fire erupted under the passenger side glove compartment. the dealer stated that there were no recalls; however, there was a 10-inch amp that should have blown the fuse to prevent a fire from occurring. the failure mileage was 106,000 and the current mileage is 107,000. updated 10/03/08 *bf updated 10/07/08. 8jb
On or about july 20th, 2008 the entire instrument cluster would not come on once turning the key to acc, or starting the truck. the check engine light flickers when starting and within 10 seconds turns off. at no point in time while driving at any speed or distance will the instrument gauges or lights come on. this problem needs to be fixed in order to have the vehicle pass inspection, as this is a faulty system due to the manufacturer and not operator error or abuse the financial burden should rest on the maker and not the end user. *tr
Gauge cluster inaccurately displays fuel level, oil pressure and temperature. occurs daily. *tr
My speedometer on my 2005 trailblazer only works sporadically. this has been happening for about a year now. sometimes it sticks at 0 even when the vehicle is in motion, sometimes it shows that i am going faster than what i am (i.e. showing 110 when my gps unit showed 70), and most of the time it shows i am going slower than i am, by at least 5-10 mph. i was researching the problem when i discovered that a large number of gm vehicles have this problem, but that gm has only issued recalls on a couple of specific vehicles. i contacted gm and they told me to go get a diagnostic run at my local chevy dealership, and that they could probably fix it for me even though my vehicle was no longer under warranty. i went and had the diagnostic done, and gm called me back and told me that the problem was indeed the instrument cluster, but due to the age and mileage of my vehicle, they would not fix it. they did admit that several of their vehicles had service bulletins on this exact problem, but that the 2005 trailblazer was not one of them. *tr
Just want to address the gas gauge and speedometer issues. i have a 05 trailblazer and had both of these problems. fortunately i work with a great dealership and i purchased the extended warranty because gm would do nothing and the fixes are very expensive. you can live with the gas gauge not reading correctly by tracking your mileage but the stupid bell goes off all the time telling you your near empty but you cannot drive safely if you do not know how fast you are going and you certainly cannot go with the flow as everyone seems to drive faster than allowed and i do not think the officer who pulls you over will care if your speedometer does not work. i also notice that my interior panel lights will flash off and back on again, makes me think i am seeing things. i think gm needs to find answers and fix these problems. i love my tb but it just seems like a lemon and i will look at something different when i purchase again. *tr
I've seen the other listings also describing this complaint, same symptoms. without notice, speedometer will cease to work correctly, so you have no idea what your actual traveling speed it. this is an immense safety issue. i have shared my concerns with my lawyer and if a recall is not issued to all the chevy trailblazer owners a class action law suit will costs gm much more money than a recall. in just one google search many complaints were found. example: [xxx] , al, usa 2010feb 12 trailblazer 3.2l v6 it's very hard to drive a car without the speedometer working. i am afraid that i could get a speeding ticket and i have never had one. my speed shows i am doing 120 mph when i start my car. this is a pain in the butt. i have a 2005 trailblazer the speedometer works when it wants to. i have owned blazers since 1984. i can't believe chevy wont back up the consumer. it will be the last chevy i ever own.[xxx]west monroe, ny, usa 2009dec 15 trailblazer ls v6 automatic transmission 61,000 miles i was a chevy man intil i bought a 2005 trailblazer, now chevy can kiss my [xxx]. how in the [xxx] does your instrument cluster go out at 60,000 miles and its not on recall and to top it off all of the other chevy's suv and some of their trucks are on recall for the very same thing? tell me please tell me that that is not a bunch of bull. i will never by another chevy again. its said that my 96 dodge dakota runs better than my 2005 chevy. go dodge you can't go wrong with them. so now i'm a dodge man, good job chevy normanm fort leonard wood, mo, usa 2010feb 01 trailblazer se automatic transmission 89,000 miles has anyone heard where chevy stands on the issue. i can't believe this 450.00 to fix chevy should fix [xxx] mi, usa 2010jan 27 you really need to see this as a safety issue and set forth a consequence of recall to gm to fix all these bogus speedometers. I own a 2005 chevy trailbazer. the dash and headlights flicker and dim while night driving no one can find the problem. *tr
I have had my 2005 trail blazer for 2 years, and have taken it in 3 times, and had the alternator replaced twice. i'll be taking it in again tomorrow, due the dimming/flashing lights, and whining noise. same symptoms as before, alternator again i'm sure. i am hoping to sell it, and never buy chevy again. very irritating! *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer. car is in fine condition but for some reason the car died. it restarted and ran ruff. called the dealership and they had me tow it in. they ran "tests" and said my battery terminals were loose. i told them i did not agree. they said that they found nothing. today june 2 rush our approaching an intersection car just died again. car is not fine. both times i was luck to be away from others but if not.....everything failed including my brake lights. if there was anyone near me than yes there would have been property damage, a crash and a report to the police. *tr
The speedometer on my 2005 chevy trailblazer is bouncing all over the place. it has not registered the correct speed in a month. i do not know what caused this to happen. it costs over $420 to repair. gmc will not offer any help. this is more than just cosmetic this is a safety issue. *tr
The gas gauge starts out erratic then will completely stop working and you never know how much gas is in your tank when you just filled it full. vehicle will die for no reason in traffic and at times the headlights dim and volt meter drops randomly while driving. when you look at http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2005/chevrolet/trailblazer you see that this a common problem with the 2005. it needs to be addressed before there are deaths. *tr
Speedometer gauge does not work properly. when you drive it never displays the correct speed you are going and can read many different speeds as you drive. it can also remain at 0. this is happening on many chevrolet models and can cause you to get multiple tickets for not going the correct speed limit. this should not be left to the consumer to repair for $700 as this a gm/chevrolet problem. look on several websites and put in a chevy model and you will see that this is an ongoing problem and should be recalled. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact noticed the fuel gauge stopped functioning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where a technician stated the fuel assembly inside the fuel tank needed to be replaced. there was an open investigation, nhtsa action number dp10001(fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). the contact stated the speedometer also stopped functioning after the fuel gauge failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the speedometer was repaired. the fuel gauge was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 38,000.
Electrical problem with 2005 chevy trailblazer. *tr
2005 trailblazer, headlights flicker, volt gauge moves between 9 and 14 volts. gas gauge pegs to full. *tr
First speedometer quit working. reads "0" all the time. then the gas gauge quite working. reads empty and the light is on all the time. then the oil gauge also quit working. this happened all within about 6 months of each other. *tr
My 2005 chevrolet trailblazer has a malfunctioning speedometer. it randomly goes up to various speeds and sometimes no speed at all, meaning it hangs between 120 and 0. this problem usually occurs two or three times a month. this is a big safety hazard because at times i am guessing my speed and my children are always in the car with me. chevrolet/gmc should have already recalled this a long time ago. they know it is an ongoing problem with its consumers, so how can they not fix something that is their fault? i don't think the buyers should be responsible for paying $500 or more out of pocket to fix something that is happening to everyone's vehicle. that is not right. *tr
