We have classified the 423 complaints from 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
At 56000 i began to notice sally cracks to the passenger side dash on the corner of the housing for the passenger airbag. i took it to the dealership but this was not a covered item in my warranty. shortly after, the cracks have extended and are approximately 2-3 inches in length . also a crack above the instrument cluster began and has traveled to the front of the dash. the concern and immediate danger is that if the air bags were to deploy, the excerpted force would either send shrapnel from the dashboard in to the personnel in the vehicle causing a greater risk of serious traumatic injury or possibly death. additionally it is possible that the sharp edges created by the cracks could potentially pierce the airbag preventing it from fully deploying as intended and thus rendering it in affective and not adhering to safety standards, again resulting in possible loss of life or sever traumatic injury.
I bought this 2007 chevrolet tahoe brand new an this is the 2nd crack on my dash now it has a large crack next to the passenger airbag . i am afraid of this airbag being punctured in case of an accident . and a piece of the dash breaking off and stabbing the passenger . gm needs to be held accountable for this faulty dash materials that were used! this is a safety concern that needs to be repaired asap! these cracks happened when my wife was driving normally , this should not happen again.
The dash has two cracks around the airbag housing and three other cracks (2 over 5" long). concern is mainly at airbag location as i am not sure if this affects the stability of the airbag, if the airbag will perform properly in a collision, or if the plastic pieces will become projectiles in the event of airbag deployment. *tr
The dash has major cracking around the airbag and on top of the dash in the area of the steering wheel. the first incident occurred in april 2010, had the dash replaced under warranty approximately sept/oct 2010. the second incident occurred in august 2012. same cracks in dash around airbag. i can't help but wonder if these cracks compromise the airbag in any way. or if the vehicle is involved in a collision will the dash pieces become airborne projectiles. have spoken with gm and while they acknowledge that they have had issues with the dash cracking, they do not acknowledge a defect in the dash. a simple internet search provides several instances of these same cracks occurring in many 2007 chevrolet tahoes, avalanches, and 2007 gmc yukons. yes, i could pay to have a new dash installed but it will be the same defective part that will crack again causing the same safety concerns. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that the vehicle was involved in a frontal crash with another vehicle at approximately 30 mph but the air bags did not deploy. the driver of the contact's vehicle and a passenger suffered minor injuries. the vehicle was destroyed and a police report was filed. the contact called the manufacturer who took a complaint but provided no further assistance. the current and failure mileages were unknown. the vin was unavailable.
Dash cracked around the passenger airbag and numerous other places. plastic pieces cracking and falling off where it used to be attached.
My dashboard is cracked from the drivers side all the away across the top to pass anger side..... past warranty and dealership won't pay for it. i am worry about the safety if the air bags are deployed. where is all that broken dashboard going to go? please help get this fixed. i worry about the safety of my children. there was nothing that specifically happened i just noticed one day it was starting to crack,
Dash cracked in several places. this is a very common defect in gm silverados, tahoes, suburbans, yukons and avalanches. at this point the main concern is the fact that the high majority of cracks on all affected dashes are against/next to passanger air bag. if deployed dash fragments will become projectiles. as times goes on several other cracks have appeared and at this time gm has refused to address
Chevy ss tahoe purchased new in 2007 has multiple cracks in the area surrounding the passenger air bag. it is my concern that if this is deployed there may be portions of this dash that will be deployed with the air bag. in addition the dash board has crack above the drivers steering column that has splintered into multiple cracks. in speaking with my insurance agency i was informed that this is a common issue with this model of chevy tahoe 2007. i do not see any recalls, but this needs to be addressed immediately along with this recall of the airbags for this vehicle type.
In our 2007 chevrolet tahoe the dash is cracked just above the passenger side airbag which could cause serious injury in a crash. the interior wiring must be faulty, the passenger window sometimes won't roll down from drivers side, but sometimes it will. also our battery mounts different than what is called for in automotive centers (top mount , not side) making it difficult to order proper battery for this vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet tahoe. while stopped at a traffic light, a truck crashed into the rear of her vehicle at an unknown speed. the air bags did not deploy. the contact was injured and was transported to the hospital via ambulance. a police report was available. the dealer picked up the vehicle days later and repaired the body damage but did not diagnose the air bag failure. the vehicle was left at the contact's residence by the dealer. the manufacturer was contacted and she was awaiting a decision in regards to the air bag failure. the dealer advised bringing the vehicle in for further diagnostic testing. the failure mileage was 47,000 and the current mileage was 51,000
Dash has cracked in two separate areas. one above the driver side instrument panel and one above the passenger side airbag. i called two different chevrolet dealerships on two separate occasions, neither of which willing to correct or report to gm. entire repair would be at owner expense. dash has had very little sunlight exposure.
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet tahoe. the air bag indicator continuously remains illuminated in the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the air bags were not inflating properly. the retainer clip was replaced and the indicator was repaired. the indicator is currently illuminated again. the failure mileage was 34,665. updated 03/09/09. *lj the air condition blew otu hot air, the dvd and onstar stopped working as well as the seats and windows no longer operate. updated 03/12/09. *jb
The dash cracked on the passenger side at the corner of where the passenger airbag deploys. approximately two weeks ago a larger crack appeared on the driver side dash above the instrument cluster. gm knows this is a rampant issue but fails to show integrity and take responsibility for the thousands of cracked dashes in tahoe, yukon, avalanche, sierra, and silverado trucks. *tr
There are 2 cracks in the dash. one crack is 2" long, near the passenger side airbag. the other crack is 7" long, driver side, "hump" above the instrument cluster. i have done extensive research on this problem to see if its an anomaly. it isn't. i am a member of a facebook group who has the exact same problem with their tahoes and similar models. please refer to this link for a visual http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ikscklf7g8&list=fljga62lgteuqumon7fzvc0q&index=40 please see facebook group below for more information and background as well https://www.facebook.com/groups/251892298253/ it would appear this is a manufacturing defect. the cracks are in the exact same location amongst hundreds, if not thousands, of consumers. i am worried the crack on the passenger side of the dash is a hazard if the air bag is deployed. the cost to replace the dash is between $1,000-$1,500. *tr
I just bought a used chevrolet tahoe from a dealership and unfortunately the vehicle mileage is over 36,000 miles but is only a year old. here is my complaint. my airbag service light came on while driving from texas to nevada and does not shut off. the dealership said they do not cover this anymore since it is out of warranty and i would have to pay for parts and labor for servicing the air bag system. i do not believe the air bag system coverage should be connected with mileage. the vehicle is only a year old and it is already giving me an airbag servicing light. why can't general motors fix this at their expense? chevy tahoe 2007. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet tahoe. while driving 50 mph, all of the air bags in the vehicle suddenly deployed. there was no crash and no prior warning before the deployment. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the failure was due to high voltage. the vehicle is still currently at the dealer. the current and failure mileages were 14,000. updated 09/15/08 *bf updated 09/17/08. *jb
1. takata recall on our 2007 chevrolet tahoe (received letter from gm stating we would be notified when parts are available to remedy vehicle. 2. cracked dash - over the steering wheel driver side and through the airbag area on the passenger side ( very hazardous if airbag deploys).
Airbags are recalled manufacturer states no remedy available at this time. i was never notified of a recall.
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that the air bag light constantly illuminates in his vehicle ever since it was purchased. he took the vehicle back to the dealer at least fifteen times and they kept changing parts, but the failure still persists. the contact filed a service claim with general motors two months ago and they continue to replace parts, but the air bag light illuminates intermittently. the failure mileage was 100 and current mileage was 35,871.
Takata recall i haven't got a recall from chev yet. i feel my vehicle is unsafe to drive.
I dont understand why gm will not fix the issue with cracks in the dash! it is u safe as one is located right at the passenger side airbag. what it i have an accident and this breaks and parts fly and hu6a passenger. this is not safe.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet tahoe. while traveling at a speed of 35 mph the contact press on the brake and the vehicle accelerated up to 40 mph. the contact pressed the break again and the vehicle immediately stopped. contact experienced failure with several components such as the battery, all the power door locks lock it automatically sets the alarm off. when the contact places his left foot close to the break pedal and emergency brake the interior lights and chimes would come on. on another occasion while parked the vehicles air bag deployed with smoke coming from the dashboard. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the control module was replaced after the second battery replacement and the air bag system has not been repaired. dealer refuses to perform service until further notice from the manufacturer. the current mileage is 36,500 and failure mileages were 15,000. updated 5/20/2010 *cn updated 09/-7/10*jb
Car has not been in an accident. just concerns like so many other gm customers. there is a crack that is at the airbag, on the passenger side, that keeps getting bigger. concerned that airbag might deploy, or not work at all. have contacted gm corporate several times telling them about the same issue that other customers are having in this same area. when contacting gm they tell me that they have not heard of this issue, but there are so many customers that have complain online. i was told to take my vehicle to the dealership for further inspection and was told that this could have happen by using armorall, in that case the whole console would be cracked and not in certain places where all other customers are seeing the same exact cracks. actually the entire console is affected with several cracks. if gm was not aware, how come some of their customers consoles have been changed out by the dealership? more than once. they tell me because of the model and the mileage of my vehicle it would not qualify. this is a material issue plus a safety issue if it affects the stability of an airbag. there are even videos on u tube that shows a visual picture. *tr
All side roof rail bags have been activated without any reason and accident . *tr
We have a 2007 chevy tahoe. one of the reasons we purchased this vehicle is that it has front and side airbags. i usually ride in the passenger seat and the sensor most often indicates off. after numerous attempts of trying to get them to establish what was wrong, the chevy dealer said that my weight was not quite enough to get it to work or that it was positional( how i sat). i am a grown woman who weighs about 115 lbs and am 5'2".this is not thin by normal standards and it is not considered an unusual size. if in fact this vehicle was not meant to work for someone of my size they should advise you of this. i asked what would happen if there was a wreck and my airbag did not deploy, would i have to sue gm? they are avoiding me and i have written to the ceo of gm as advised by customer service and i have written to bill heard, the owner of tom jumper chevrolet where we bought the car. no answers from anyone. what do you think? *jb
I have a vehicle with a takata airbag. i contacted lithia chevrolet (redding calif) who refused to replace the recalled airbag, stating it was an incomplete recall at this time.
Takata recall
Takata recall - i was notified that the air bags for my 2007 chevrolet tahoe were under recall. it is my understanding that the replacement of the defective airbags has now been prioritized by vehicle age and region. my tahoe has always resided in hot, humid south texas. i purchased this truck in june 2006 - so it has been in service over 10 years. i would think this would quality for priority scheduling for the replacement airbags. i would appreciate some help in getting my airbags changed out asap. please advise.
Takata recall the propellant in some types of takata airbag inflators can degrade over time, especially after long term exposure in hot and humid regions. if the propellant degrades to a certain level, the inflators may rupture during deployment, causing serious or fatal injuries.
The dashboard has two cracks one over the steering wheel and one over the passenger side air bag. i also have the light on and off saying (air bag service required) and the cruise control n has not been working neither for like 2 years all. it is a safety issue and concern when i travel with my family and this issue should be addressed immediately. thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
