We have classified the 28 complaints from 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
Abs brake problems: when applying the brakes under normal braking conditions, vehicle is slow in stopping. this happens while traveling on smooth road surfaces and no inclement weather. it seems as though the braking system is inadequate for the truck. dealership stated that the brake system is working as it was designed. please provide any further information. *ak
After several trips to the dealership to have the problem connected to the transmission fixed, the dealership finally replaced the entire transmission. the problem presented itself when after the truck was going, when i had to stop for a light, stop sign or whatever, i would then engage the gas pedal. the truck would only inch away, when my foot was completely down on the gas. the sideview mirror on the passenger side shattered for no apparent reason, while driving on an open road. when i took the truck in to have it fixed, i was told the entire brake system would have to be replaced. the master cylinder was leaking and the shoes and pads were gone. now my truck is currently going back to the dealership because there is a knocking noise in the steering wheel column and a buzzing noise when the fan is turned on for heat.
You need to pump the brakes in order to feel responsive/ i'm told i'ts normal /uniroyal factory tires are all ready breaking down at sidewalls at 5,000 miles/told it is normal/air constantly comes through center lower vent when system is shut down, told this is also normal... i disagree thank-you( dot number: 00000000 tire size: 16 )
Rear and front brakes worn out. yh
Brakes failed because of master cylinder leakage. yh
When abs brakes engage, there is a "screeching" or "loud moaning" noise, and abs fails to bring vehicle to a stop. consumer has not taken vehicle to repair shop to be examined. please provide any additional information/attachments. *ak
I had only the vehicle a couple two or three months when one day i found myself in a situation to have to make an emergency stop while going about 35 mph, when i stomped on the brakes the rear brakes locked up and the tires skid and screeched. the front end went to the right and the rear end went to the left on the inside lane of a four lane street which put the front end in the right same direction lane and the rear end in the inside on-coming lane. it really scared me as i expected a true straight forward stop without any skidding. also at times when the brakes are applied normally they at any speed the brakes will pull hard on the steering wheel either left or right. one never knows until the brakes are applied. i have this vehicle into three different dealership service departments several times for repair of this and many other things over the past year while working with the chevrolet customer assistance office. finally i was allowed to meet with the south central region area service manager for general motors. he drove the vehicle and about lost control of the vehicle while making a simulated emergency stop. he has advised me that it was normal. i do not agree with him as i have and have had other vehicles with anti-lock brakes that have responded like that. i feel like the vehicle is defective and dangerous. i requested gm to purchase the vehicle back from me for that reason and they have refused.
Braking system malfunctioned, causing extended stopping distance and noises, such as brakes "chattering" while braking. dealer replaced the brake pads and shoes/drums and master cylinder. but, problem still exists. please provide further information. *ak
Consumer was traveling on highway and veered over to the shoulder to avoid hitting another vehicle. when consumer applied brakes, pedal was soft and went all the way to the floor. also, there was vibration. in addition, steering wheel pulled back and forth, due to rotor failure. *ak *yh
