2003 suburban instrument cluster stopped working, speedometer is erratic, sometimes it gets stuck other times it reads extremely high also battery gauge is dead. i have found numerous web forums with countless threads dedicated to complaints on 2003 gm instrument clusters. whole cluster must be replaced, as it is very dangerous to not know your speed. *jb

Speedometer is erratic, reads incorrectly, sometimes doesn't work at all.

While driving speedometer randomly locks up at different speeds. sometimes it shows i'm doing 55mph in a 25mph zone. i've called gm on several occasions in the past but was told it was an issue with my vehicle. i called the dealership and was informed the cost to fix ranged from $500-$600. i got a letter from gm today but was told since my vehicle was over 70,000 i was stuck with the repairs. this i think is absurd. if it is clearly a defect then it should be remedied regardless of the mileage on the vehicle. i am the second owner of this vehicle so i took the liberty of calling the previous owner this evening and he told me he had this problem around 46,000 miles. he said he was informed since the vehicle was past 36,000 miles gm will not cover it. therefore, he traded the vehicle in due to this same issues with the instrument cluster. *tr

The speedometer quit working (gets stuck and reports in accurate speeds or sticks below 0 mph) on my 2003 suburban with only 59000 miles. i am told this is a common problem with the instrument cluster and that gm issued a tsb but no recall even with the many reports and complaints of safety concerns. i am told the repair cost will be $500-$700. i also had to replace a bad a/c compression costing $1k and intake gaskets $320 in the last 3 months. this is ridiculous for this new of a vehicle. i thought gm built better quality products than this. it's a safety issue not knowing how fast you are going or if the other gauges are working correctly. i am nervous putting my wife and 4 kids in this vehicle due to these safety concerns. i will not risk my family's safety due to this low quality of product. *jb

Speedometer failure in 2003 chevrolet suburban. speedometer is producing inaccurate readings. will read 0 mph at highway speeds, will also read higher speeds while vehicle is stopped. instrument cluster was replaced at a cost of $550. *jb

Speedometer has failed. shows 120 mph, even when shut down. it slowly began to go from zero at startup, to 35 at startup, to 70 at startup and now to 120. apparently, there is a known defect in the instrument cluster which chevy and dealers are aware of. *nm

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. while driving at any speed, the speedometer would display inaccurate readings. the contact stated that this was an intermittent failure. the dealer stated that the motors inside the speedometer failed. as of october 30, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. the failure mileage was 35,000 and current mileage was 49,000.

My speedometer on my 2003 suburban doesn't work. concerned about driving not knowing the speed i am going. it stopped working several months after i bought it used, couldn't afford to get if fixed then. after recall obtained recently, i took it to dealership and they said it was over mileage claimed in recall. *tr

Speedometer fluctuates, indicates various speeds other than actual speed. never a standard offset from actual speed. might indicate 20 mph at 55 mph actual as measured by gps one time, then 10 mph at 60 mph actual another time. *tr

Speedometer failure: speedometer calibration error resulting in incorrect speed level. *tr
