Brakes went out while driving on freeway and i had to push the brake pedal down as hard as i could to get truck to slow down while i moved over to the shoulder. it turns out the vacuum pump on my braking system went out.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 55 mph, the brakes failed to work when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact had to stand on the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. the contact was able to pull the vehicle over to the shoulder. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 61,000.
While backing up vehicle, at a slow speed, gravel driveway, backing down hill, brake pedal became hard and required a considerable amount more braking effort with much less effect. after vehicle was stopped and moved forward, this was still present. vehicle was again stopped and then power cycled. this returned the vehicle to normal.
My complaint or safety notice is that on august 12 2018 the brake pedal on my 2015 chevrolet silverado 1500 began compressing a short distance and then became extremely hard, the vehicle is by all physical means nearly impossible to stop even at a very slow speed. i had my truck towed to my dealer believing it was not safe to drive, and was advised that the "brake system vacuum pump and booster had failed due to internal contamination. there is no warning in the vehicle sensing system to advise the operator to have the brakes serviced for this issue. chevrolet issued a technical service bulletin (tsb #pit5361a & #pit5361b) in 2016. obviously they are aware of the problem. mine brakes failed after just pulling in my driveway from a 600 mile trip. had this happened at highway speed, i would have likely been injured or killed, as would any vehicle occupants in a car i could have potentially hit. i have researched the problem online, and there are an endless amount of complaints posted for this exact problem. unfortunately there has been no recall that i can find. it will cost me $1626 for the repair, i assume the replacement parts are the same type that failed. undoubtedly someone is going to be seriously injured or killed, there are individuals and families driving around as i write this complaint that are unaware their brakes might fail the next moment they need them. ask yourself if this has already caused serious injury or death, but the failure perhaps could not be pinpointed due to the damage of the crash, remember there is no sensor or warning for this issue being logged into the cars computer system. odds are this has already caused harm. i'm asking that a recall be implemented and a safety warning be immediately released for vehicles that have this design flaw in the braking system. your immediate intervention could save a life.
I had a brake defective vacuum pump on my on 2015 chevrolet silverado 1500. i had the vacuum pump changed on 1/30/2019. my brakes were losing pressure when i was driving slowly. my brakes would lose pressure primarily while i was backing up. i have narrowly missed having several accidents (with other vehicles and property) due to the problem. on one instance, i lost brake pressure going down a hill. braking distance was increased, and so were my efforts to halt my truck. i also noticed my brakes losing pressure after my truck giving me several alerts (while driving and parked) about servicing the trailer brake system. i am not sure if that has any bearing on the vacuum pump. i will also be replacing the trailer brake switch on my truck. i hope this fixes everything and i will not have that problem again. i did some research on the internet and it sounds like this is a common problem. this has been a particular problem with my truck since about august or so.
Brake pedal gets very hard while in traffic especially while towing a trailer. dealer initially couldn't find an issue but eventually replaced the brake vacuum pump, it got better but still intermittently does it. when it happens you have to stand on the pedal with everything i have to get the truck to stop.
At low speeds with the brake pedal pushed in the truck still rolls. on three occasions over the last 6 months this has happened and almost caused multiple wrecks. once was in the mountains, once was turning on a curve, once was on a straight flat black top.
Brake pedal gets hard at slow speeds making stopping very diffulcult especially when backing my boat into the lake. i seriously thought truck and boat were about to go into the lake.
When brake pedal depressed the braking system has malfunction. brake petal has little movement, feels hard and vehicle does not respond. takes a great amount of pressure to stop vehicle than vehicle still moves.
Vacuum pump on 2015 chevrolet silverado 1500 went out while driving on highway on july 8, 2018. applied brakes and they were hard and would not depress. they eventually started to work so i was able to stop. this occurred off and on for over two weeks, usually at slower speeds, until i was able to get them fixed on july 24, 2018. see repair order. i wanted to file this because i saw the nhtsa was investigating faulty brake vacuum pumps and mine was not repaired at a chevrolet dealer.
While moving in stop and go traffic brake pedal becomes hard and vehicle will not stop.
Slow speed no brakes hard pedal.i just read about 100 complaints with the exact same issue. why is there not a recall on this yet. i don't have $1200 to fix this.
The vehicle braking system become rigid at low speed (approx 3mph or so) as if the power brake system fails. the vehicles stopping distance changes and the vehicle continues to roll while pressing the brake pedal toward the floor. this issue resulted in damage to my garage door while backing the vehicle into the driveway. the issue is best described in the pending investigation regarding the gm braking system located under chevrolet silverado recalls. i was made aware of the investigation after researching the issues i have had with my vehicles brakes. the investigation statement describes the issue as a problem with degrading brake vacuum component.
Brake vacuum pump failed which resulted in diminished braking performance. this was very dangerous as we were pulling a camper when it happened. dealership replaced vacuum pump when vehicle was at 78260miles although condition started before that. we received a letter about reimbursement but it only applies to 72000 miles or 6 years. the repair cost us over $500.
I purchased my 2015 silverado pre-owned with 2,000 miles in october 2016. in may of 2018 i was traveling through multiple states. i was stuck in slow traffic for multiple hours due to an accident on the highway. it was then that i first experienced an issue with my brakes. when moving at a very slow pace, the brakes seemed to lose the power assist. i took the truck in for it's oil service at castroville chevrolet on 6/22/2018. i mentioned this issue to the service writer who was not aware of any issues with the silverado brakes. at the time it was cost prohibitive for me to have it investigated and could not lose the vehicle for an extended time. it has happened multiple times since then, again only at very low speeds, such as parking. i have an appointment on 11/28/2018 with castroville chevrolet to have it looked at. all of these incidents happened while in motion. i believed it to be a vacuum issue as it only happened at low speeds.
Several times commuting in to work, wife said brakes felt funny, hard to stop. i would drive and have no problems, then it finally happened to me in at a busy intersection. tried to stop but truck kept rolling, lost braking power and the truck slid forward. managed to stop but happened again two days later and it happened at a higher speed. brake pedal goes real stiff when in stop and go traffic and it is hard for the truck to stop. going approximately 20 mph, the car in front slows down to turn. i applied brakes and the truck was hard to stop. the brake pedal went stiff as i was pushing down hard. the truck felt like it was slowing down but barely. i almost hit the car before it turned. i took the vehicle to the dealership and they diagnosed the problem as the brake booster vacuum pump and pipe. i called the corporate office and told them that i am having a safety issue. they said that it was not a defect or real safety issue. they said that the truck was out of warranty. it only has 61,156 miles on it as of 9 july 2018. the first time the issue occurred was in may 2018. at that time i had about 59,000+ miles on the vehicle. there are several complaints regarding this issue. a couple of certified mechanics stated that this part should last much longer than it has. i would like to start a class action lawsuit. service bulletin #pit5361.
Vehicle fails to stop at low speeds while parking in forward or reverse.
On my way home pulling a 5000 lbs boat and trailer on a public highway and suddenly my brakes get hard as a rock and loose the ability to basically stop with any quick response. after limping the truck a short distance to a friends business i learn this truck has a brake power assist pump???????????? call me old fashion but the vacuum usually comes from the intake manifold, not a rinky dink pump with a belt to drive it. totally unsafe in my opinion. something as important as brakes to be relied on a rubber band and a 5 dollar china bearing. i feel this is a poor and unsafe design and could easily been avoided. now comes the enjoyment of having it repaired and only a dealer available part. truck just turned 50k and my dealership is telling me this item is not.covered under warranty.
On two separate occasions within a 1 week period, the brake pedal became impossible to depress with the vehicle in motion. a noise could be heard similar to that of an active abs. the first time this occurred while pulling into a crowded parking lot. i had to use the emergency brake to prevent a collision with a parked vehicle. the second time this occurred, i was parking at a curb in the main area of my town and again had to utilize the emergency brake to avoid hitting a parked vehicle. internet research leads me to believe this to be a common issue with multiple reports of the same experience.
The brakes will become very hard to press when they become hot. driving at low speeds and in reverse, after the brakes are hot (highyway driving, then down to city traffic). very dangerous if not aware of this issue.
I was backing into a parking stall the the brakes failed again! brake pedal was solid and would not depress to slow the truck to a stop. only after extreme pedal pressure was there any braking action, but only slight. because of this i hit the wall behind the truck. if someone was there, i would not have been able to stop. gm/chevrolet have a service bulletin out on this issue. an internet search came back with 312,000 results. i've talked to my selling chevrolet dealer and they reluctant to deal with it. does somebody need to die before something is done. this is the 4th or 5th time my brakes have failed.
Left side brake calliper support bolt fell out of top mount.(lost on hwy). bottom bolt half way out. calliper started scrubbing inner rem. vibration and loud popping noise.
Have not even had my chevy for a year and the brakes seized up causing the vehicle to not stop. noticed there has been some issues having it towed to a chevy dealership to see the cause of the problem, looks as if gm is aware of the problem, so don't know why i was not notified of this issue, could of been a very serious accident as i travel on the freeway at high speeds.
While in a parking lot, there was an almost complete loss of brakes. the brake pedal would not depress. only after pressing multiple times and very hard was there any braking action which slowed the truck. gm has issued a service bulletin, pit5361 about this issue. this is a known issue.
While driving on the highway approx 40 mph, traffic in front of me stopped suddenly and i applied as much force on the brake pedal as i was physically able to. the truck began slowing but not nearly fast enough and i collided with the vehicle in front of me. the brake performance seems to have declined over time and i was unable to stop in time to avoid the accident. there appeared to be plenty of room to stop but the truck did not perform as expected. i am reporting because i read an article regarding a probe into issues with the brakes on the year truck that i own. at the time i did not think too much about it but now i believe that this braking issue may have directly resulted in the collision.
Need to replace the vacuum pump and line because brakes are wicked soft. at slow speeds truck doesnt want to stop. for example in traffic or parking. when i went to the chevy dealer they told me that they've seen a handful of other vehicles with the same issue
Truck has 62k. truck will not stop at low speeds. could easily back into and or over something or someone very easily. more frequent when at low speeds and while backing up. i almost backed into a roll up door before slamming on the parking brake. took truck into dealership and was told that the vacuum pump, vacuum belt and hose from vacuum pump to brake booster needed to be changed. this is not a warranty fix.
I was driving on the highway at 50 miles an hour during rush hour traffic, traffic began slowing down and as i went to push on the break, it was extremely hard. i could not push the break down at all, and my car would not slow down. i placed it in neutral and was pushing as hard as i could on the break with both feet. finally, the truck began to slow down. i put me emergency lights on and crosses over 5 lanes of traffic, as i was in the carpool lane, to get off the highway. it was a very dangerous and scary situation.
Brake pedal gets hard, and brakes are not working, it seems to happen more frequently. usually at low speed, and it has made it interesting at parking lots, or stop & go traffic, and parking in our driveway. we have checked everything, and couldn't find anything wrong. googled the symptoms, amd it appears this is happening to more chevrolet silverados than mine, and the tech's say it's a brake booster pump issue. i think chevrolet need to fix this issue, since it's happening to several trucks, it's not just a flawed pump, but more likely a pump weekness overall. happened first time a year ago, when in a ferry lane, and the speed was walking speed, and we barely managed to stop before we hit the car in front of us.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 15 mph, the vehicle began to lose vacuum pressure when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact had to apply excessive force to the brake pedal to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. the contact stated that the brakes engaged once the vehicle reached 1,000 rpms. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was taken to performance chevrolet (4811 madison ave, sacramento, ca 95841) where it was diagnosed that the vacuum pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. the approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
Noticed failure of vehicle to stop. lack of power assist braking at slow speeds. brake pedal is rock hard with little to zero travel (1/4' at most). vehicle will continue to move (regardless of pressure applied to brake pedal) for several feet. while this has occurred in both forward and reverse gears; the issue is consistently observed in reverse.
Takata recall .. while driving my truck , 2015 silverado with only 38k miles .. a (warning light ) displays (service trailer brake system) it continues to chime & display on the dash non stop even if i have a trailer hooked up to the truck or not & it does not matter what speed i'm driving . this is a safety issue due to when i am towing my trailer as soon as it displays the service trailer break system light, i lose the ability to use my electric trailer breaks until the display shuts off .. it would be appreciated if this issue can be checked in to .. i did see they had a recall & the same issues for the 2014 models but not the 2015
Received an alert around 63,500 miles "alert: service break assist." dealership service advisor notified me that problem was "brake master cylinder leaking into vacuum boster. both need to be replaced." cost $1172.61. break basically wouldn't work properly when pressed. this should not happen so early. i've only had truck for two years. chevrolet needs to fix this. this could have caused an injury to myself or my family.
Power brakes fail at low speed requiring more pressure to come to a complete stop. occurred multiple times i while parking or idle speeds.
2015 chevrolet silverado 1500. consumer writes in regards to power steering. *ld the consumer stated abs system and stabilitrak light illuminated. the consumer was made aware of a recall concerning the steering failure after having the vehicle repaired. the consumer requested to be reimbursed for the repairs.*js
When pumping my brakes for traffic, backing out of driveway or driving in general etc., brakes will fail and my truck keeps rolling. not safe what so ever as i am stomping on the brakes as hard as i can and the truck will not stop. please fix this issue by contacting chevrolet for a recall. this has happened to multiple friends and family with this truck model and year. it is a problem and gm needs to know about it before somebody gets killed for brake failure. truck is not even past 40,000 miles!!!
Brake pedal will go hard on sporatic occassions at low speeds
The truck experienced a hard brake pedal at low rpm, stop light, parking lot, etc. when brake is depressed the pedal is hard to press and the braking ability is reduced and the truck will continue to roll. chevrolet is aware of the problem and issued a bulletin in february 2015, my 2015 was purchased in september 2015. when i complained of the issue at dealer, i was told i am out of warranty and would have to pay a portion of the repair on a known defect.
Brake pedal gets very hard when driving at slow speeds and in reverse. makes a ticking sound like the anti lock brakes are kicking in but no dash lights illuminate. almost rear ended a vehicle travelling 25mph but was able to pull in a parking lot to avoid collision. truck has 79xxx miles
Hard braking at low speeds. brake pedal becomes hard and truck hard to stop. possible brake booster defect. attempting to park in parking stall, had to put truck in n to stop. commuting to work in traffic at low speed and pedal becomes hard, truck hard to stop.
When taking a long, rather sharp turn on the highway, the vehicle was resisting against the turn making it difficult to maneuver the vehicle. at the same time, the brakes began to initiate when the pedal was stepped, but immediately became very hard and could barely slow or stop the vehicle. almost hit the vehicle in front due to the delay and difficulty in braking.
At low speed with stop and go traffic loss of brake assist/boost. first application of the brakes was normal. after release and reapplication, brake boost was lost, pedal became very hard and vehicle failed to stop.
About 41000 miles on my truck. i had braking problem when driving at low speed at parking lot. i almost hit the car because i was not able to stop due to the braking issue. i felt loosing pressure while braking. i had this issue 3 times. on july 16, i noticed the issue then it did not happened again. but it came back again on august 31 and september 1. i took my truck to dealer and they replaced vacuum pump. i found that many people had same issue but no recall. i had to spent about $500 for new vacuum pump.
The brake assist warning light came on while driving and the could not brake properly the brake pedal was really hard to brake. a;most had a wreck cause i could brake properly on time
Power brakes stop working at low speeds. it seems the vacuum pump is failing. sometimes at low speeds the brake pedal goes hard and requires alot of extra effort to stop. i almost ran into the rear of a car in a drive-thru.
Brake system was not working properly when i drove at low speed. i ignored it once in july 2017. but i had same issue again on aug. 31 and sep 1 at the parking lot. i almost hit the car in front of me. i fixed my issue at chevy dealer, and they replaced vacuum pump. (~42000 miles on the truck)
I went to back out my driveway at low speeds and the brakes did not apply. i put it in drive and applied the brakes and they failed again. i applied the gas and went on my way the brakes seemed to work fine. but from idle to slow speeds (1-10 mph) the brakes fail and i have to press the brake as hard as i can or it will continue to roll. have dodged several cars at red lights.
I lose the power brakes if i touch the pedal at low speed more than a couple of times. it happens frequently while driving in bumper to bumper traffic and when backing into a parking spot. it is a complete loss of the power brakes and ir barely stops.
At a low speed coming into my carport the brakes had a hard pedal and would not stop. this has happened on two occasions. 5-27-2017 and again while backing up to my lawn mower tailor on 5-29-2017 . not sure what the problem is but you could not press pedal down at all. ?????
Front brakes on left side stick and wear unevenly and rapidly. i have had front brakes replaced twice with 80% pad life on right side by midas. midas stated that there is a service advisory to replace the left side piston/caliper and a new hose which is larger allowing the brakes to release properly.
