Received a recall notice about brakes, stating as the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, dealers will reprogram the electronic brake control module, free of charge. i have done this and the problem still exists, especially when driving at slower speeds...i believe replacing the vacuum pump would cure the problem and believe this should be a recall to replace such. not to just reprogram the computer. i have had numerous close calls and feel this is a very big safety issue and a major concern. thanks for your time!
During a turn to a side street the vehicle shut off. all steering and brakes were inoperable. there was an engine malfunction light and a message about there being 2 identical keys for the truck then anti theft flashed. while stopped in the intersection blocking traffic, a message directed to roll down the drivers window then back up. when that was done, electrical came back on and steering was restored. the vehicle was started and is now unsafe for use. the control for being on or off is unreliable and therefore unsafe to use as a transport. 42000 miles on the 2014 high country silverado. no steering. no brakes...that makes it unsafe. would you put your family in this vehicle and ask them to drive safely? how do you justify giving total control to volatile software? how about at 75 mph and it fails? just know it can happen would have ensured i considered another purchase. i believe that information alone will justify someone else's marketing data.
During a panic stop at slow to mid speed someone pulled out in front of me and i hit the brakes only to have a hard pedal and not stopping quick enough. felt like a brake booster issue. the hard pedal and increased stopping distance is a definite safety issue and i will be heading to the dealer asap. i am out of normal warranty and only have powertrain warranty left. shouldn't matter due to safety relation of problem. ## vin passed ## , ##
Brake failure. while backing down my driveway at a speed of only 10-15 mph the vehicles brake pedal became rock hard and would not depress, i am a 220 lb. man who is what i feel in good shape and had to use both feet on the brake pedal and all my strength just to attempt to slow it down. i was unable to fully be able to stop the vehicle when i impacted the corner of my garage which resulted in minor bumper damage , however no one was hurt thank god. the odd thing is once i stopped and put the vehicle in park the brake pedal seemed to build pressure again and was fine? after a little investigation with the vehicle i can recreate the issue if i pump the brakes 4 to 5 times in quick succesion which results again in a rock hard pedal and loss of braking. once i rev the engine in neutral i restore pressure back to the brake pedal and have no issues. i am almost positive this is a brake vacuum issue and will be taking to a mechanic asap to look into it.
I took my truck in for service my brake pedal was getting hard to press even at a low speed. i took in my vehicle and it ended up being the brake vacuum pump that was causing the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving approximately 3 mph, the driver depressed the brake pedal; however, the vehicle did not stop immediately. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and dealer (blaise alexander chevrolet, 800 market st, sunbury, pa) were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 115,000.

Brake pedal became very hard and couldnt hardly stop.
Started noticing hard brake pedal in reverse and at low speeds until last night it seemed as if my brakes were not there at all pulling into my garage.well this morning i left for work and got maybe 2 miles away and heard a squel and had little to no brake and then they got harder and i got no brakes i almost ran into a lady at a stop light in front of me but swerved and missed her but pulled over off road and noticed that my belt had broke and that vacuum pump had locked up and it needed replaced.

When driveing slow or backingup brake pedal is real hard and truck doesn't want to stop
Brake pedal becomes stiff and extremely hard to depress at low speeds (backing out of driveway, stop & go traffic, etc.). vehicle became very difficult to stop and traveled a fair distance even with brake pedal fully engaged. mileage: 86,000. appears to be vacuum pump issue per notification letter from gm and as noted by many other drivers with similar experience. dealership charges $650+ to replace vacuum pump if vehicle is over 72,000 mile limit placed as part of gm's special coverage program.
Loss of braking power has occurred multiple times at the boat ramp. while slowly backing down the ramp in reverse, brakes will become stiff and not stop the truck. abs sensation in the pedal can be felt once pushing the pedal harder until the vehicle stops. only solution is to put the vehicle in drive and give slight throttle to regain braking power before continuing to back down the ramp (which is less than 20 ft long nonetheless). my tuck has almost not stopped and rolled into the water on a few occasions now.
Brake pedal became very had to depress while reversing at a slow speed. this occurred in my private driveway as i was connecting a trailer. i was not able to stop the vehicle in the usual manner, while a did not collide with the trailer it was within an inch or two before i was able to get the vehicle to stop.
At low speed the brake pedal can be depressed and at times it will be extremely difficult to stop the forward progress of the truck.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while accelerating from a stop, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle did not respond. the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received technical service bulletin number: 10113364 (service brakes, hydraulic), but the vehicle exceeded the maximum mileage. the approximate failure mileage was 79,000.
While driving at low speed the brakes failed to stop and i nearly ran over a lady. then after parking i went to leave and i almost baked into someone because the brakes again failed. local dealer said that the vacuum pump is know to just go out randomly. this should be a recall seeing as to how it is sketchy and could get someone killed.
On the highway pulling new travel trailer home. came up-on stop & go traffic (2 hours) brake pedal was hard, no power. i did manage to stop very nervously without hitting vehicle in front. no problem after started moving. a few weeks latter backing up to park camper at camp ground and return home, same thing, no power brakes
Hard to brake at times at low speed extra effort to brake or may not brake at all. call chevrolet customer service and they say someone need a to get hurt in order to make a recall.. when they send me a notification by mail of the problem with my truck.
Hard brake pedal at low speeds. unable to stop as normal. happens sometime in forward but most always in reverse.
I have had lose or hard braking issues due to a vacuum pump issue. gm sent a letter out in april allowing special coverage but my vehicle doesn't meet there conditions.
At very low speeds the brake peddle becomes very hard and will not stop the vehicle. it is very intermittent and once the vehicle is shut off and started again the brakes will perform like normal. it seems to happen while parking or in stop and go traffic.
At different times when attempting to park the truck, the brake pedal becomes very stiff (hard). i had to apply both feet to the brake pedal to stop the truck. this occurred twice in the past month. contacted gm and was told that there is no recalls on this issue. i checked the internet and discovered that other silverado and sierra owners are having the same problem . there needs to be a recall before someone is injured or dies because of this issue! in both cases i was driving at low speeds and in the process of parking the truck in my driveway and at home depot.
Takata recall - tried parking today and backed into my parking garage wall at work - no damage to vehicle but scared me quite a lot to all the sudden lose complete control of my brakes - pedal became stiff - would barely move no matter how hard i pressed it and then brakes stopped working completely. all the forums i am reading is related to vacuum pump. this is a joke that this hasn't been recalled yet. these geniuses are waiting for someone to get killed before they are going to fix it apparently. truck is 2014 silverado 1500 ltz z71 with only 29,000 miles on it. sure as hell is just out of warranty period.
Loss of brake power, pedal gets hard at low speed. getting out of driveway the truck failed to stop, pedal got hard so increase of power applied to pedal
I lose power brakes while driving especially at slow speeds the pedal gets very stiff to where i can almost not even stop. it even started getting worse at high speeds now
While driving downhill on a local highway, another vehicle changed lane into my lane which forced me to brake to avoid a collision, but brake pedal was very stiff and required more force than usual to apply the the brakes. fortunately, i did not hit the other vehicle and but had to pull over to a parking lot check on my family who were shaken up about the ordeal. i turned off the vehicle for a few minutes to see if it resets the problem but after starting the vehicle and driving it around the parking lot a few times, the problem was still there and a brake assist service message was now showing.
Brake booster went out at slow speeds. was backing up and noticed brakes were hard to push. pulled forward and the same thing. once i started to drive the problem went away. very hard brake pedal after driving around parking lot. car had to be less than 3mph for problem to occur.
Brakes became hard to push down and could barely stop. luckily i was backing into a parking space at work and the sidewalk ledge stopped me. now when i try to stop the brakes will only push down about an inch then are almost impossible to push down to stop. from what i read online the problem is likely the vacuum pump.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving approximately 35 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to stop the vehicle. the contact stated that the brake pedal was very firm. approximately ten minutes after the failure, the service brake assist warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. a dealer was not contacted; however, the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 79,000.
Hard to press brake pedal at low speed and sometimes unable to stop due to stiffness of pedal
My wife and i were on vacation and stopped at a rest area off the interstate in missouri. upon returning to the vehicle and pulling out of the rest area i applied the brakes and there was no power brake assist. i had to use both feet and push as hard as i could to get the vehicle to stop. luckily there was a dealership about 10 miles down the interstate that could look at the vehicle. the vacuum pump that supplies vacuum to the power brakes had a complete failure causing no power assist to the bake system. the service technician at the dealership told me that this part must need repair often because they had them in stock. after the repair and $683.36 later we were back on our way.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 10 mph with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle failed to come to a complete stop. as a result, the contact rear ended another vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed. there were no injuries sustained. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.
Brakes engaged and locked up while driving during normal road conditions in july 2018.towed to dealership & problem was the braking module. however, 6 months later and the brakes engaged and lock up again while driving on normal road conditions. towed to dealership & this time they determined the booster valve controlling the brake fluid was the issue. 2 days later, the brake assist engaged while driving and the brakes locked up again. had to depress the brake assist button multiple times to get it to release. these instances are occurring while road conditions are bare & temps are above freezing. this is dangerous since brakes lock up while in the middle of traffic traveling anywhere from 30 mph to 50 mph.
When trying to stop at low speeds the brakes act like loss of power brake and have at least 5 times almost hit a car in front of me because couldn't stop. i took it to the local gm dealer and had it repaired and it was the vacuum pump, and after finding out the problem i found on the web that there is a big problem with this on 2014-2018 gm trucks and was advised to file a complaint because it is a huge problem and should be recalled, especially after it cost me over $800. i have around 72,000 miles and looking on the web quite a few have had this problem as early as 10,000-30,000 but was taken care of under warranty and probably weren't reported
Brake pedal gets very hard to push at low speeds after depressing 2 or3 times
At low speeds, the brake pedal becomes hard/impossible to press and does not slow down the truck. it feels as if i have no control over stopping the vehicle. this seems to be happening to a lot of owners of these trucks according to what i am seeing while researching the issue.
At low speeds or idle, power brakes are lost requiring to use emergency braking to prevent collisions.
Brake pedal becomes hard after pressing 2 or 3 times when engine is at or near idle resulting in absolutely zero braking ability. occurs in both forward and reverse. resulted in having to use the emergency brake in order to prevent a collision.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving approximately 20 mph approaching a stop light, the vehicle did not stop when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact had to pump the brake pedal a couple of times until the vehicle finally stopped. the vehicle was driven to starling chevrolet (1001 e irlo bronson memorial hwy, st cloud, fl 34760) where the brake assist vauum pump was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified and provided case number: 9-5195285314. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 119,000.
Silverado will loss braking power at low speeds (10mph<) and condition worsen when under stop-and-go-traffic.i have determined the problem to be related to the vacuum pump - 12669488 gm original equipment vacuum pump
