Driving in heavy traffic about 35 mph, quickly depressed brake to stop at red light. brake pedal went to the floor with absolutely no braking. went thru red light at 35 mph, almost hit cross traffic. had truck towed and discovered that brake line had rusted and burst.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the "service brake trailer system" warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that part numbers: 20850923 and 20904439 needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was 127,277.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the brakes independently applied while the vehicle was being operated at low speeds. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transfer case was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 68,825.
First incident with the engine occurred less than 3 months after purchase. at roughly 88k miles i noticed a skip in power/torque especially when going uphill at a constant speed, a light loss of power was noticed very briefly as if one cylinder was missing. less than 100 miles later the "service stabilitrak" and check engine lights came on. i had the engine code read and cylinder 7 was misfiring. took it back to the dealership with 3 days left on my powertrain warranty (thank god right?), wrong. for whatever reason an engine malfunction was not covered under a powertrain warranty. but the leaking and failing brake system was covered. advised by the dealership the lifters had failed which costed me a grand to fix less than 3 months after purchase. exactly one year and roughly 20k miles later the truck developed a loud tick right after startup. its now idling very rough, rpm gauge does not stay consistent at idle and at one point dropped almost to 0, truck almost shut off and then jumped back up. after speaking with an independent mechanic about it he proposed it was the cam from his personal experience. it seems the incorrect material was used on some of the cams construction ("softer metal"). this mechanic told me it can put an indention in the cylinder wall and cause the valves to malfunction, in turn causing the lifters to fail. so if this is true why has there not been a recall for this part? everyone makes mistakes including big companies, they'd be a lot more respectable if they corrected their mistakes. so now my options are to spend all the money i saved for college, fix my truck for $4,000 and not go to school this year or trade it in and get a ford.
While driving at speed door locks will actuate back and forth with all dash lights flashing. eventually car loses all power, engine dies, and have to pulp to side of interstate without power brakes or propulsion. i was personally almost rear ended by a semi at approx 60 mph. furthermore, it is know that all door panels in this vehicle retain moisture. this has killed all speakers and i guess it could be a potential cause of the afore mentioned problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the contact attempted to depress the brake pedal but it was difficult to depress. in addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to fully accelerate however, it moved slowly and then stalled. the contact also noticed a burning odor. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that both front calipers, the cores, the rotors and the pads needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake system needed to be flushed. the vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken again to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder, both rear brake hoses, the wheel cylinder, the front cylinder, the brake monitor valve needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 53,387. updated 02/10/16*lj *cn

When applying brakes going down a mountains, the front end started shaking, it seemed like the front end was falling out. .i had the truck checked out, the first time gm had the rotars turned they said they were warped. this happened 2 more times and it happens when i travel to tn or va or west va. these last 2 times i had it fixed at my expense. i finally had new rotars replaced at my expense . i made a trip to fl . and had to go through tn , which is up and down mountains. ;and it is happening again with the brakes. it was 1 year old the first time this happened. it was taken to gm dealer the first 2 times. the truck only has 63000 miles on it. and the only thing in the truck is my wife and i and the dog and our clothes. *js
While driving out of my driveway, i suddenly lost both power steering and power brakes. i was able to get back into my driveway, but with considerable effort. i called my mechanic and was advised that the power steering pump had failed, causing the power brakes to fail, also. the power steering pump shaft broke. i use the truck mostly to tow a horse trailer. i shudder to think what may have happened had the failure occurred on my way to a camp site on a curving two lane road. i researched the failure on line and discovered it is not a rare occurrence, and has been happening to several model year chevrolet trucks. this is a low mileage vehicle i purchased new. it has never been abused or misused. *tr
On multiple occurrences, driving at varying speeds, without traction control disengaged, the parking brake and traction controls warning lights and sounds activated for no apparent reason. the lcd dic indicated stabilitrak off and service brake system messages. tried engaging and disengaging both the parking brake and traction control with no change. when the parking brake was engaged however, the sounder began sounding again and when disengaged it would shut off. service brakes, rotors and calipers were replaced approximately 4000-4500 miles ago. first occurrence was about 1000 miles ago. has occurred 3 times total. possible bad abs sensor? *tr
Was at a red light when vehicle came to no function. stabilitrak / traction control light kept coming on and off for months. truck lost driving ability and lights became coming on. lost brakes, transmission light came on along with stabilitrak, and traction light. vehicle lost acceleration and did not have ability of power. sounded like spark plugs miss firing. brakes became disabled and where grinding. (new brakes) had to push my truck off road as it had no pressure to drive. mechanics think it is the throttle body sensor. will see. *tr
The vehicle has a trailer brake issue, the trailer brake intermittently gives you a message saying service trailer brake and you loose brake system connection and the trailer brakes do not work, gm has been aware of the issue since 2007 but cannot and will not fix the issue, they use temporary fixes that last 5-12 months and then when you are out of warranty they will keep charging you and do not fix the issue, the trailer brake message comes up even when there is no trailer connected, gm claims it a short, module, your equipment, water, the plug, there engineers don't even know how to fix it, i have tried all resources and still have the same issue. i personally have spent over 5000.00 and still have the same problem some one needs to address gm about this before someone get seriously injured or there is a major crash because you loose the brake and cannot stop the vehicle because the trailer brakes don't work due to the manufactures defect in there wire harness or trailer brake system. *tr
