Cylinder #4 has failed. several mechanics have stated that they see several of these failures with engines equipped or programmed with the active fuel management systems. my engine failure occurred under normal circumstances, 55mph on a farm to market road transitioning from flat roads onto a slight rise when the vehicle started running very noticeably rough. i pulled over and the engine unbalance was very apparent.
Stabilitrak and traction control light going off with blinking check engine light and rough idle, on a highway. it happened on february 3 2019
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 60 mph or at a stop, all the warning indicators would illuminate before the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was able to restart after a few seconds. the contact called terry cullen chevrolet (1250 battle creek rd, jonesboro, ga 30236) where an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing and repairs. the manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact to call the dealer. the failure mileage was 147,000.
Rapid temporary loss of engine power, doorlocks cycling repeatedly, guages malfunctioning, radio shuts off and turns back on with no preset stations and showing 12:00 on the clock ,cruise control disengages. once vehicle is shut off, no guages nor lights work...as if there wasn't any battery in the vehicle. vehicle won't start until dome light is restored on via jumpstarting. cleaning battery connections and numerous ground wire connections gives short-lived relief from symtoms but problems ultimately return. chevy dealership diagnosis shows that ground wires have high resistance. online research shows that tens of thousands of other chevy owners are having similar to exact same problems, yet no recall has been issued. problem was "fixed" last year and has returned yet again.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. while the vehicle was stationary and while driving various speeds, the fuel sending unit malfunctioned. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning because the fuel sending unit sent an incorrect signal to the fuel tank, thus signaling to the engine that there was no fuel in the vehicle. don hall chevrolet inc in ashland, kentucky was made aware of the failure and diagnosed that the fuel sending unit was faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle shook and stalled, and the low oil pressure and "shut the vehicle down" indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (family chevrolet, 3701 e saunders st, laredo, tx 78041) where it was diagnosed that the oil, oil filter, and injectors needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and opened case number: 8-3726232141. the contact was offered a discount on repairs. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Started using oil all check engine lights came on an now is knocking motor no good.afm sucks.
The engine is the 5.3 and is suffering from excessive oil loss, normally 2-3 qts between oil changes.
Cylinder 1 misfire, collapsed lifter,dod/afm system failed. ticking noise from engine before lifter failed.stability traction control also giving problems once problem with lifter started 144000 miles mostly highway this truck is only used for family outthings.not every day driver 3 days out of a 7 day week.
I have just over 150,000 miles on my 5.3 liter v8 i constantly have to add oil and have had to since i bought this truck with 124,253 miles on the odometer. i generally add 2 quarts a month. i have brought this issue to my local dealership and have been told rhis is allowance. the oil pan gasket, rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, valve covers, the valve seats, and piston rings are all showing degraded signs. i worked as a mechanic for a short time. i am also a retired logistical transportation operator from the army . i have never know this to be in allowance. i understand that some of these issues are at owners responsibility. i just want to make it kniwn that everyone i kniw with this year model truck have tge same exact problems. unfortunately this vehicle does have a salvaged title.
At 84000 miles have cylinder 7 collapsed lifter. this is a known and prevalent issue associated with the active fuel managment system (afm). total repair estimate >$3000. this issue has affected many gm vehicles, especially trucks, with this costly repair. once this occurs it is only a matter of time that the same problem reoccures.
Vehicle began to knock and idle rough. noticed while in stationary mode on a city street. vehicle is misfiring in cylinder 1. engine has a history of beating up its cam shaft and lifters.
First incident with the engine occurred less than 3 months after purchase. at roughly 88k miles i noticed a skip in power/torque especially when going uphill at a constant speed, a light loss of power was noticed very briefly as if one cylinder was missing. less than 100 miles later the "service stabilitrak" and check engine lights came on. i had the engine code read and cylinder 7 was misfiring. took it back to the dealership with 3 days left on my powertrain warranty (thank god right?), wrong. for whatever reason an engine malfunction was not covered under a powertrain warranty. but the leaking and failing brake system was covered. advised by the dealership the lifters had failed which costed me a grand to fix less than 3 months after purchase. exactly one year and roughly 20k miles later the truck developed a loud tick right after startup. its now idling very rough, rpm gauge does not stay consistent at idle and at one point dropped almost to 0, truck almost shut off and then jumped back up. after speaking with an independent mechanic about it he proposed it was the cam from his personal experience. it seems the incorrect material was used on some of the cams construction ("softer metal"). this mechanic told me it can put an indention in the cylinder wall and cause the valves to malfunction, in turn causing the lifters to fail. so if this is true why has there not been a recall for this part? everyone makes mistakes including big companies, they'd be a lot more respectable if they corrected their mistakes. so now my options are to spend all the money i saved for college, fix my truck for $4,000 and not go to school this year or trade it in and get a ford.
Engine lost compression and started ticking while traveling at 65 mph and came to an abrupt stop in traffic. this caused a safety concern with my 2 infant sons as passengers. the engine light was flashing which resulted in a code p0304.

This truck developed big oil use problem
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving approximately 60 mph, a sudden banging and rattling noise was present coming from the engine. the vehicle was shut off and towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that a piston in the engine had blown. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact also indicated that the passenger side front window module malfunctioned and the window could not be opened. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 74,000.
Excessive oil consumption found when changing oil at 3,000 miles and no oil was in the engine at all.
While driving at speed door locks will actuate back and forth with all dash lights flashing. eventually car loses all power, engine dies, and have to pulp to side of interstate without power brakes or propulsion. i was personally almost rear ended by a semi at approx 60 mph. furthermore, it is know that all door panels in this vehicle retain moisture. this has killed all speakers and i guess it could be a potential cause of the afore mentioned problem.
The exhaust manifold bolts broke off causing exhaust leak. it will cause engine light to come on,very expensive repair. this is not from normal wear and tear defective material in the bolts. there should be a recall on this. *tr
Both cylinder heads are cracked. compression was affected for poor performance.```````````````````````````````````` *tr
I stopped at a store on my way home last night and when i got back in the truck and started it, it made a noise like it would if you turned the key and the engine was already running. i had the same response from starting it this morning after it sat in my garage all night. the truck has only 56,000 miles on it and gets regular maintenance...i'd hate to think i've got to replace the starter already. in the last two months i've had to deal with the "check engine / gas cap" thing and replaced the impact sensor for the air bag. every week i get closer to trading in for a new ford. *tr
While driving home from work the vehicle started making noises and shaking. we took it to the shop to find out the issue was caused by the lifters which are being housed by plastic. according to the mechanic lifters should be held by metal not plastic due to the nature of the requirement on this type of vehicle. using plastic to house the lifters is a bound issue. other parts affected or that had to be changed due to this issue (cam, head set, guides, timer, set wire, set head, coolant, oil and filter). it cost us $3,911.04 to get the truck fixed since the engine basically had to be removed to get to the lifters. this should never have happened if the lifters were stabilized in the correct type of material. we feel a recall should be made for this issue and we should be reimbursed. *tr
Motor knocks and is using oil a lot of oil and the dash light flicker with the switch. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that engine oil was being consumed prematurely. the contact had to replace the oxygen sensor more than once due to the premature oil consumption. the manufacturer advised that the vehicle had exceeded the mileage that provided the newly designed oil pin and new valve covers that they were offering. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 145,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that while driving uphill at approximately 55 mph, the engine power reduced as the vehicle decelerated to 25 mph with the illumination of a warning indicator. the engine was turned off but the failure persisted upon restarting. the contact continued to his destination and powered the vehicle off however, once the auto start switch was activated the vehicle resumed normally with the engine warning indicator illuminated. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 50,379.
Was at a red light when vehicle came to no function. stabilitrak / traction control light kept coming on and off for months. truck lost driving ability and lights became coming on. lost brakes, transmission light came on along with stabilitrak, and traction light. vehicle lost acceleration and did not have ability of power. sounded like spark plugs miss firing. brakes became disabled and where grinding. (new brakes) had to push my truck off road as it had no pressure to drive. mechanics think it is the throttle body sensor. will see. *tr
Exhaust bolts broken this is a common problem causes exhaust to leak and engine warning light to come on. *tr
Engine lost power, rattling badly. after stopping, engine was still running, but had no power and rattled like a lifter blew. towed to dealer, where they determined that the camshaft blew and damaged #7 lifter. the tech said it was a "materials defect/failure". 1.5 months out of powertrain warranty. gm is giving me grief over taking care of the $3000.00 repair bill. they are offering only $1800.00, but a materials defect should be taken care of by the manufacturer. truck only has 63000 + miles on it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated while starting the vehicle, a loud ticking noise emitted from the engine compartment intermittently. in addition, the engine consumed a significant amount of oil. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis and they recommended that the engine be rebuilt. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 52,000.
While traveling on the expressway a check traction system warning appeared along with reduced engine power. after approx. 10 miles the engine shut down and i was forced to pull off to the side of the road. i shut the engine off and attempted to restart and the starter would not engage. after waiting approx. 3 minutes i was able to start the car and warning system was gone however the check engine light remained. the engine shut down again after i traveled another 20 miles at which point i repeated the steps outlined above and was able to get the vehicle home. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the camshaft and lifters needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the contact also mentioned that the failure was experienced several times. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 146,663.
