The speedometer stopped started registering about 20 miles an hour below what i estimated i was driving at the time. the speedometer then started working properly 2 days later and then all of a sudden it just stopped working all together. the consequences are that i can't tell how fast i am driving and could lead to speeding tickets or accidents. *tr

The speedometer would stick anywhere above 60 whether i was at a complete stop or not. this went on over a year because chevrolet said not enough complaints were issued. i almost got a ticket just going with the flow of traffic so i paid almost $500.00 to have it fixed. not safe at all in school zones. *tr

2005 silverado truck, interior of truck caught fire in the middle of the night when family is sleeping. believed to have started in power seat motor only days after a new battery replaced. wiring problems versus defective instrument that drew power off the battery to begin fire? *tr

Speedometer sticks and i have to kill and start my truck over and over so it will go back to zero. *tr

Stopped at stop sign and speedometer reads over 120 mph. only have 52,000 miles 2005 chevy silverado. stays maxed all the time. *cn

My speedometer stopped working. *cn

Speedometer is erratic. started at approximately 65,000 miles. speedometer maxes out, does not work or reads improperly. dealer informed me that the 03 and 04 models have a recall on the stepper motor but the 05 model does not have a recall. the speedometer does not function properly 90% of the time. do not know exactly how fast the vehicle is going. vehicle has approximately 72,000 miles now and the problem still exists. dealer said that a replacement would cost approximately $500 to fix. who can afford this after paying for a $35,000 vehicle. especially after having the steering shaft replaced numerous times, new intake gaskets, catalytic converters, blower motor wires smoked and melted. just a junky truck for the high price. *tr

Was driving normally when i came to a stop light. instead of the speedometer dropping down to zero it stayed a 60 mph. the speedometer bounced up and down for awhile and now it just stays stuck on 150 mph. every once in awhile it will drop down to 90 mph, but then gets stuck back on 150 mph when i start driving again. *tr

Speedometer was working fine then started to speed up when i wasn't. it happen everyday. i try to get my cruise set before it starts so not to get a ticket for speeding. dealer told me to call gm, who in so many words said i would have to pay for the repair, i don't think that a part like this is not like a battery or tires that wear out over a giving amount of time. gm should fix the problem at no cost to the owner. i have about 46,000 miles on the truck. just got the prices last week,$400 to $500 to fix. lets say it's not fixed yet. *tr

Was going 55 mph and came to a stop light. the speedometer stayed at 55 mph. when i sped back up the speedometer went up to 150 mph and stayed there. sometimes it drops back down to 90 mph and the goes back up to 150 mph when i speed back up. it normally stays stuck at 150 mph no matter what speed i'm at. *tr

No prior warnings that anything was wrong with the truck, truck suddenly lost power and died. transported to dealership was determined mouse nest under ubec, wires chewed and full of mouse urine which caused a short. box that contains this part is very accessible to rodents. fortunately, this happened in the driveway, on the road i would have had no steering or brakes, and possible fire. *tr

Speedometer failure. at around 55k, my speedometer failed. before it completely failed, the needle looked like it was struggling to keep up with speed, then it completely failed. when i noticed the failure, i looked down and it said i was going 120mph, which i was not. i've called the original dealership where i purchased the vehicle, they said the 03's and 04's were recalled, but the 05's weren't. i was also told that the 05 suburban was under recall? and that mine should be too because of the same cluster panel. i've heard nothing yet on a recall, and i don't want to be ticketed because i don't know how fast i am going. *tr

Speedometer began to act erratically then ceased to function.*cn

1) just happened. 2) the resister in the blower motor circuit shorts out. which causes the wiring harness to burn up melting the plastic at the connector to the resister and the black wire leading to the resister. 3) i had to replace the resister to the circuit and splice in a new wiring harness for the resister. *tr

Speedometer failed, locked on 60 mph will not move, caused receive speeding ticket 78 in 65 zone from police. also the company i work for has a 2005 like this one,the speedometer failed last week in that truck. this should be a recall. if i had been driving in the mountains, this could have caused a crash. had to pay to replace instrument cluster. 50,400 miles. *tr

Fire in center of dash. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. when the vehicle was stopped, the speedometer displayed 140 mph. the contact stated that the speedometer displays the incorrect mileage at all times while stopped and driving at any speed. the repair shop stated that the instrument cluster needed to be repaired. the cause of the failure was undetermined. the manufacturer stated that there was a recall for the 2003-2004 chevrolet silverado 1500, however, no recall was found in the nhtsa database. the current and failure mileages were 42,933.

The speedometer and tach gauges have been messed up for nearly a year now and i can not get gm to fix the problem. it is on an 05 silverado and they refuse to do anything to any truck after 04. *tr

The fan speed selector wiring plug in the passenger side compartment started smoking when the fan was on speed 5. i got it turned off and looked at it when i got home and found the plug at the hot wire and the hot wire (red one) were melted. it happened at 37590 miles. could happen to more vehicles. *jb

Speedometer works intermittently and does not indicate the correct speed. when working, it may indicate speeds up to 30 mph less than the actual vehicle speed. it does not indicate higher speeds, only lower or not at all. *tr

Driving on the highway at about 65 miles per hour, speedometer suddenly started fluctuating wildly and now will not work. the needle sits anywhere from 0 mph to 120 mph but is never accurate. i could be going down the highway at 65 mph and the speedometer reads 120 mph, or completely stopped and the speedometer reads 90 mph. *tr

Truck used for travel to and from work. speedometer worked fine until about 54,000 miles then worked intermittently. speedometer gave out about 63,000 miles and is stuck at 84 miles per hour, even when parked. took vehicle to dealership and they indicated it would cost approx. $400-$550 to fix. i have owned 2 chevy trucks prior to this one. i once had to replace the speedometer cable on my 1979 chevy after it went out after normal wear and tear of 15 years. i know that they don't make them like they used too, but the speedometer out at 63,000 miles, with routine maintenance. i am sad to say i am very disappointed with the quality of my chevy truck. *tr

My speedometer don't give correct reading while driving or parked. actually don't work right at all! *tr

Instrument cluster on 2005 chevy silverado failed estimated cost to repair 650 chevy intentionally installed defective motors on the instrument cluster that had been recalled on the 2003 silverado causing the speedometer, gas gauge, tach, to stop working making an unsafe situation as you cant tell your speed or how much fuel you have in your tank potentially leaving you stranded on bad roads out of gas or taking a corner faster than the posted speed because of not knowing how fast you are driving. chevy knows this instrument cluster is defective and refuses to repair it. just like toyota. *tr

Smoke filled cab , sparks and flames from under passenger dash. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving approximately 35 mph, the speedometer displayed 75 mph. when the vehicle came to a complete stop, the speedometer displayed 45 mph. the vehicle was driven to the dealer and they stated that there was a recall on the 2003 and 2004 silverado's pertaining to the speedometer, but there were no recalls on his 2005 vehicle. there were no repairs performed on the vehicle and the speedometer began operating properly a couple of days later. approximately one year later, while driving 35 mph, the speedometer displayed 80 mph. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the current mileage was 58,000 and failure mileage was 50,000.

Oil gage reads 0, speedometer sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. *tr

In the 2nd year i owned my truck it noticed that when the outside temp got below 50 degrees f that my speedometer would stop working. when it warmed up 10-15 degrees it would start working again. after about a year of this it just became completely unreliable all the time regardless of temp. now it just sits between 50-120 mph whether you are moving are not moving. this last year the gas gauge also became completely unreliable. i've heard chevy sent out letters saying that if your vehicle has less than 7 yrs or less than 70,000 they would fix it free, mine has over a hundred but i never got a letter and still live at same address. i've heard there is a class action suit but haven't seen it. i would take my truck to the chevy dealership but this would cost me a diagnostic fee of $110 and they still would fix it free, they would charge me $600. this is a safety issue. a driver must know the speed of their vehicle and they must know how much fuel is in the vehicle. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated in the early morning of 8/19/2006, police and witness reports suggested the vehicle veered off the right lane onto the breakdown lane, and then swerved across and off the left side of the road, flipped upside down, impacting a tree on the right side of the vehicle. the road was clear and dry. a witness stopped to render assistance, ran to the vehicle, viewed the situation and returned to another vehicle to call in the emergency. the witness felt and heard two explosions and was unable to get within 10 feet of the wreck due to the extreme heat of the fire. the driver was wearing a seatbelt when death occurred due to the fire. police and fire department reports were taken. photos were taken at the impound lot by the contact.

my 2005 general motors product (purchased new) now has 15,600 miles on the odometer, and has had (5) five front end alignments. each time the toe/camber/and caster , have changed. this product had (2) new front tires replaced by a g m dealer @ 2,800 miles it is still "pulling to the left" and as of two days ago the steering wheel does not lock when the key is removed from the ignition. this vehicle is also on it's(3) third battery,(3) third radio, and the sun roof has leaked water inside cab >directly on my left hand on the steering wheel @ 55 mph. the water is dripping from the sunvisor post directly above steering wheel. i have filed my complaint with the n h t s a .. on oct.28,2005 reference # 10141129. *jb
