Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the passenger side rearview mirror did not adjust and the buttons did not work. the contact called porter chevrolet at 302-722-4822 (located at 414 e cleveland ave, newark, de 19711) and was informed that there was no recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the failure mileage was approximately 173,000.
The tps throttle position sensor check engine code keeps going off while driving. when the tps code goes off the engine loses total power and you are unable to accelerate, which is a safety issue. we have replaced the throttle body but the issue is still remaining even after replacing different wires.

The battery keeps being drained when engine stays turned off. i researched and found many complaints regarding this 2003 silverado issue with many other owners. when i researched on a recall i found the recall number (02066) but it states that our truck vin number is not included but then why have i bought 4 batteries just this year alone? please help because it no longer cranks up at all. i have to jump the truck every time i have to turn it on.
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 80 mph, the speedometer failed to display the proper speed intermittently and would display zero while the vehicle was being driven. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 106,000.
This actually doesn't have anything to do with an accident. the instrument panel on our chevrolet silverado 1500 doesn't work except for the speedometer. the mileage on this vehicle is 68,901, hours driven 2,498.6. i can't tell what the amount of gas, oil pressure, temperature, etc. is. i really think with this low mileage this panel should have lasted longer.
'takata recall' my air bags were framed unsafe from being a vehicle from a warm climate. replacement was needed to ensure safe guards.
When i went to open the car door smoke came out. the truck hadn't been driven in two days and nothing was plug in to the charging outlet. the entire dash had melted. the heat was hot enough to crack the windshield and pop open the rear passenger window. the vhelihicle was parked the driveway of the primary residence.
At random times while driving or turning, no matter the weather our truck randomly dies. shifting into neutral she always starts back up right away.however due to not knowing when it will happen, it does on city streets at 25mph and had on the highway at 75mph. we are unsure still at the moment the cause or solution. we have had 4 episodes of this dangerous problem starting this year only, 2015 .
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving at approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel pulled to the left and right and the vehicle swerved after driving over a bump. the dealer diagnosed that the vehicle and the two control arms were replaced. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000. updated 12/23/16*lj the consumer stated the wiring harness for heater number 4 setting blew out. there was an electrical odor. updated 01/04/17.*jb
Several times now this last 2 months my truck stops running. at first it would slow down then stop, the last time it completely shut down 3 times from work to home which is only 10 minutes away. the ignition seems to be the problem. i am bringing this to everyones attention just in case someone else has the same type of vehicle. if i were driving 65 or 70 miles per hour it could have killed someone or me or both. my passenger side airbag is also showing a fault. it shows that it needs serviced.
When the truck is cranked and at idle and in motion the headlights and all panels blink. the light on the panels do not completely go out but it dims. the headlights have went completely out a few times while in motion. when the interior light is on it also blinks and dims. at times the radio goes haywire and starts going through all of the stations. the headlight connectors have been replaced and we noticed that the wiring that goes to the headlights is very brittle and where the connectors plug into the bulb were burnt and the prongs on the bulb were also burnt and melted. this has been going on for some time and we can't seem to find what is causing all of these problems. the driver side window, door, and mirror panel only halfway work. sometimes the driverside window will go down and sometimes it won't the driver side panel will not control the passenger side mirror, lock, or window either. the passenger side window and lock panel will not work either. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado1500. while driving approximately 55 mph, the instrument panel became inoperable and would not illuminate. the failure occurred on a daily basis. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 90,000. the vin was not available.
The instrument panel gauges fail as well as the speedometer. *tr
When my truck is started for the first time in a day the instrument cluster will be fully operational. if the truck is shut off and restarted the instrument cluster fails to come on, no matter how many times i start and stop the truck. if the truck sits overnight and is restarted the cluster functions normally until the truck is turned off and restarted, at which time the cluster fails to come on. all gauges, tachometer, speedometer, battery, engine temperature, oil pressure odometer, fuel gauge and odometer fail to operate at all. on the rare occasion while driving the truck with a non functional instrument cluster the cluster will suddenly turn on. if i turn the truck off and restart it the cluster fails to come online. several years ago i had a problem with the speedometer not working correctly and the chevy dealership was supposed to have replaced the instrument cluster. now this problem is occurring. even though the truck runs without the cluster coming on i cannot determine necessary information to safely operate my vehicle. and, as the mileage is stored in the instrument cluster, it is probably not registering mileage when it is non-functional. *tr
The truck was parked on the driveway at home and on july 29, 2014 i wanted to drive it to a store and could not turn the key in the ignition. the ignition switch did not work anymore. the truck only has 93000 miles and in the past 8 years and we did not drive it every day. many days and weeks was just parked. therefore, the ignition switch does not have so much usage. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving various speeds, the vehicle would lose power and stall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was unavailable.
Traveling 25 miles home on interstate van had been cutting out if i pull over stop wait, can re-start and go a while. cant predict it seemed to stay running if i went faster big mistake moved to pass it quit, at interstate speeds almost had to go into medium after yelling and waving arms and praying i got back into the right lane pulled off onto shoulder and went to pieces. it then stopped more and more finally got home and have not touched it since. i have been reading about similar events and it seems it is the crankcase positioning sensor. i am just happy to be alive. need to fix it and sell it. thanks for listening i am senior citizen. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the instrument panel failed to illuminate. the contact also stated that the gauges failed. the vehicle was taken to two separate private mechanics where the failure was unable to be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
I was traveling at approximately 55mph on a smooth paved county road with my a/c on. it was about 78 degrees outside. i had the a/c running about 15 minutes before the air just turned warm. i tried 3 times turning off the a/c and back on, and the air failed to cool. i stopped the truck, turned the a/c on, got out and looked at the a/c compressor. the a/c compressor was not engaging. i took it to a mechanic and the diagnosis was undetermined. 2 other mechanics failed to find the problem as well. the system was charged correctly, not leaking, and even replaced the hvac control module and the problem was not fixed. there are many other cases just like mine and i would like gm to look into the problem. i am proud to be a gm customer and have always liked my gm pickups. *tr
Vehicle was on cruise control prior to accident, i lost consciousness & do not remember anything about the crash early on. was informed the vehicle rolled front to rear 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 times, prior to coming to rest on its top. the vehicle was a total loss due to this accident. i spent 3 days in icu and am now recuperating at home. no airbags deployed due to this accident . the vehicle was a total loss due to the accident. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the key was extremely difficult to turn and remove from the ignition. the vehicle also stalled on multiple occasions. the contact had to turn the key back and forth in the ignition switch numerous times in order for the vehicle to start. the contact also had difficulty turning the steering wheel upon making a turn. the steering wheel jerked violently and vibrated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 162,829.
Electrical dash board including speedometer and all gauges and etc., intermediately does not work. sometimes the dashboard is not working, you'll never know when it comes back on working. it's getting worse. is there a recall for the electrical dashboard? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the tachometer displayed inaccurate readings and failed intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 28,000.
I was driving on a down hill road with a stop sign at the bottom. i began to press the brake and the pedal went to the floor. i could not get the truck stopped and ended up in an empty field to avoid a wreck with impact. there was a huge wet spot on the street where by brakes failed. very scary with my young children in the truck with me. the brake lines were all rusted and had given way. according to the repair shop (and the internet) this is a known issue with these vehicles. i am also now having an issue with my instrument panel going crazy. the speedometer will say i am traveling 110 when i am rolling up to a stop sign. the fan blower will be on 0 and it will blow out at full force and will not turn off, even after the engine has been turned off. this ultimately results in a dead battery. i have had to have several jump starts. this issue according to my mechanic is a "known issue" with this vehicle. however, my vin # produces no results for recalls. so like my silverado break down on the side of the road issues, the search results have left me stranded as well, only this time i am not walking down the road with my small children. *tr
When starting up truck i hear a clicking sound then it goes away. happens all the time. *tr
My son was driving, we were returning from prescott az. we were on a small down hill part of the road when the truck lost all power. i told my son to put the truck in neutral and try to restart it. that failed, it made the same noise as a dead battery would. i told him to pull off the highway. he did so and put the transmit ion in park. i told my son to try and restart it and it started right up. *tr
Reduced engine power. this has been occurring off and on for about 9 months, have taken it to dealer multiple times and replaced everything that was said would fix the problem. the problem still occurs even after replacing: accelerator and receiver on throttle body as well as checking wiring harness for issues. essentially, the vehicle will lose the function of the accelerator without warning at any given time during the use of the vehicle. the dealer has told me that they don't have any idea why it still is having this issue...the other day the vehicle was being driven and reduced engine power mode set in and at the same time the power steering went out. thought the power steering going out at the same time was a one time deal but it happened again the very next day. the vehicle had this issue on the highway the other day and nearly caused an accident. it is shocking that there are not thousands of complaints with this same issue, if you look up forums on this topic there are over 200,000 threads on this very issues. there are thousands of forum complaints about reduced engine power and how people have spent $1000 plus at the dealer and the issue still persists. the drive by wire functionality instead of using a throttle cable seems to be having issues that even gm doesn't have an answer for. would appreciate any looking into on this subject. *tr
The a/c had engaged(turned on) itself following my use earlier this day, the heater had worked well previous this morning. the temp was nineteen degrees outside and the truck was parked outside. i was unable to turn off the air conditioning, by pressing the button nor would any of the controls cause heat to come from the vents. i removed the dash trim and unclipped the radio mounts and removed the right electrical plug from the back of the heater control unit and then reconnected. then the heater began to work. the dealer said the part is not available from general motors but they offer a rebuild program through the dealer. depending on in stock replacement and availability. it would take two days to repair and the dealer would reuse the face plate from my unit part. the cost is 135.00 plus shipping. this was the first time this has happened, and it may have been a poor electrical connect due to the age of the vehicle and mileage. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. after restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. the failure recurred numerous times at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the throttle body was faulty. the contact was able to repair the vehicle himself. recently, the vehicle exhibited hesitation on different occasions when the accelerator pedal was being applied. the vehicle was not repaired. in addition, the air conditioner circulated warm air whenever activated. the blower motor connector was not replaced; however, the motor resistor was replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

I was driving and after approximately 30 miles my speedometer slowly decreased to 0 miles per hour. now after about 30 miles per hour my speedometer quits. if there is one thing with a guaranteed lifetime warranty it should be the thing that tells me how fast im going. *tr

Starting to merge onto the interstate near peoria, il, i looked down and the speedometer was reading 95 mph. i looked at my gps and it read 54 mph. without taking my eyes off the normal viewing scope, i now have no idea how fast i am going. this also seems to be a common issue with silverados. *tr
My instrument panel is draining the power causing problems with the lights there is a clicking sound and light dimming when the truck is running. i was told the change the ignition switch which was done but that didn't help with the problem. i don't know what else to do about this problem. *tr
(*affected part - it doesn't let me to type ipc - instrument panel cluster) fuel needle is not operating - completely. battery voltage needle - is not operating - completely. speedometer is sticking. lights at dashboard are dim, takes couple minutes to get back to normal. gm is aware of defective product (ipc - instrument panel cluster) that was installed on all 2003 and 2004 chevy silverado, but is refusing to correct a problem. they issued only short term "special coverage", which expired in 04/2010, without even notifying all of owners about defect, so - god forbid - they won't go to dealership and have it replaced at that time. it's a serious safety issue, and gm should be responsible for correcting it. i am driving not knowing how much gasoline is in my tank, is my battery voltage ok or really has problem, what is my speed and if it complies with speed limit, and at night i even don't see dashboard info. gm says - "it's your problem, not our. take care of it on your own". i purchased vehicle in good faith that all parts are in good working condition. in reality that was not a case. gm installed defective parts on their vehicle and should carry full responsibility for replacing them with good ones. *tr
Vehicle will suddenly decrease power and the message "engine power reduced" shows on message display. first time was 9/8/2012. last time was feb 24, 2015. has done this at 25 mph on a city street, 35 mph city street twice, and 55 mph on highway. supposedly repaired three times. am afraid to use vehicle as usually tow 5th wheel and do not want it to do this while towing.
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated while driving 30 mph, smoke and flames were emitted from under of the dashboard into the cab of the vehicle. the contact mentioned that he was able merge to the side of the road and disconnect the wiring harness, which stopped the flames. the fire department was not contacted and no injuries were reported. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the blower motor, blower motor resistor, wiring harness and temperature control switch needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 137,254 and the current mileage was 138,620.
2003 silverado 1500 instrument cluster panel all gauges went out. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle battery no charge lamp was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure but stated that the junction box fed by the positive battery calbe was melted and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. the vehicle was repaired. the failure and current mileage was 54,000. updated 08/31/11 *bf updated 10/31/11
Hvac system suddenly started blowing hot air while on ac position. the only way it could be stopped was to stop the truck, shut off engine & re-start engine. *tr
Reduce engine power message. 2003 chevy silverado. driving down major 3 lane highway, message appears and trucks power goes to 15 mph. tried to get into slower lane and off highway and was almost in a serious accident due to no power. truck will not accelerate any faster than this. has happened 3 times since. major safety feature with chevrolet. other than dinger going off and immediately after that truck looses all power to accelerate. can happen at any time. codes are reading throttle positioning sensor. after doing some research on this it seems there are several other year and models doing same with people spending $1,000.00 or more and problem not resolved. has happened 3 times since. after unhooking battery for approx. 10 min. it will reset itself and message will be gone until it happens again. *tr
I own a 2003 chevy silverdo 1500 ex cab truck. i bought it in 2008, i started to have issues with the speedometer when i hit 80,000 miles. there would be times it would work and then quit. now that i have 120,000 miles my speedometer does not work at all. i found out that there was a lawsuit for this problem back in 2007 and the only remedy it for gm to pay for it was your truck was to be less then 7 years less then 70,000 miles on it to received the special extended thing. i can not get it fixed for i can not afford the 500-700 to fix it. gm should have recalled this problem there are many that i have found on the net that have the same issues as i have. i can t have my truck down for any mount of time due to i am disabled and need my truck to haul my wheelchair. *tr
2003 chevrolet suburban and the speedometer is stuck on 65 when stopped and will travel upwards as i drive faster. for example in a 35 mph zone, when i guestimate my speed, i am driving according to my speedometer 110 mph! *tr
My 2003 chevrolet silverado 1500's gauges on the instrument panel are malfunctioning. while on the interstate the speedometer reading started showing speeds of over 100 mph while cruising at 70 mph. when i turned the truck of the gauge did not drop below 75. since i first noticed this issue the gauge has continued to read an improper speed. the misreading has fluctuated from 20 to 75 mph off of the correct speed. the rpm gauge has also been doing the same thing. *tr
2003 chevrolet silverado speedometer sometimes does not work and pressure gage sometimes works intermittently along with the speedometer. *tr
