We have classified the 6 complaints from 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I just had transmission work done on my truck when it burned the gears up. my brakes have always either went completely to the floor before they stopped or locked up. right now its broke down due to too many problems for me to be able to fix but has only been not driveable since july 2017
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500. while the vehicle was parked and the gear was in park, the vehicle independently began to roll. the contact applied the emergency brake and the vehicle stopped. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 166,000. the contact could not provide the vin.
Extreme rust on under carrage of vehicle. brake lines rusted out causing brake failure frame rusted out at rear leaf springs and frame rail cross members. rear shock hangers rusted off vehicle. frame rusted so bad that it prohibits toung of any type of trailer. toyota had same problem and they had to do a recall so why has gm not had to do the same thing. it is a very large safety issue affecting many vehicles on the hwy today.
Had to disconnect the anti lock brake so i could stop. when driving slow and pressing on the brake pedal, the pedal is solid and does not move. very dangerous. cannot stop the vehicle at all. brake lines rotted out. has to replace. transmission lines rotted out. had to replace. transmission oil cooler rotted out. had to replace. fuel lines are rotting out. not replaced yet. drive shaft is questionable. severely rusted. rear backing plates rotted off, no more parking - emergency brake. check engine light will not go out. replaced catalytic converter many times with no results. engine leaks oil. loosing coolant, possible burning it. fuel mileage is terrible. body rusted out. rocker panels are gone. cab corners are gone. rear bumper is gone. putting the spare tire underneath is a stupid idea. the cost to replace these parts is too expensive. for what these vehicles cost new all of these parts should be made out of stainless steel or use plastic for the fuel lines and brake lines. the check engine light being related to a pollution control device should be entire covered by the manufacturer. these parts and whatever is upstream that caused the pollution control part to fail should be covered by the manufacturer in perpetuity. anti lock brakes should be removed from all cars. the parts are too expensive to replace. the cost should not be on the shoulders of the car owner. *tr
The transmission in this vehicle is a total piece of junk. there are many, many vehicles with this same transmission. it locked up slinging the driver into the steering wheel and windshield. this broke the bolts holding the seat to the frame. the cost to fix was over 1200 dollars. i've talked with several transmission shops, each one is in business due to the fact that this transmission is defective. they repair or replace more of these than all other times 400. it appears that this problem has been a problem since first being used. it also appears that no one is being held accountable for the repairs and/or deaths, injury that is being caused by this defective unit. it's oindtalled in millions of vehicles worldwide. when is something going to be done ? when is someone going to be held accountable ? stop this madness, please ! the time it's took me to fill out the form, dozens of people were injured due to the above statement. *tr
Hi i was hauling debris from my yard and taking to land fill.about 800 to 900lbs total. stopped at convenience store for gas and food. pulling out of parking lot, brakes gave out, brake pedal went to the floor. no warning lights. no warning at all...barely any brakes at all. i was just about to get on expressway?? wow! there would have been no stopping this thing in an emergency?? i see gm already knows of this failure. i think a heads up would have been in order??? i've called all the people i know with similar vehicles. only one person was aware of the issue and he has spent over a 1000.00 in repairs. replaced rusted brake lines. he told me he just replaced the transmission lines also. has anyone been injured or killed?? i called the dealership, jerry's chevrolet for information. i purchased it new. waiting for service department to return my call. *tr
2000 chevy z71 brake lines rusted holes in line dddky. *tr
I own a 2000 chevy silverado. my transfer case is stuck in 4wd all the time which has caused damage to my front diff also. if i continue to drive it the front diff will lock up. my father in law owns the same year truck with the same problem. i have also talked to several others with the same condition. i work as a automotive technician and almost every transfer case of this gen exhibits the same problem. i fear that if these are not corrected they will lock up and cause serious injury. the only fix i know of is to replace the diff and transfer case. i drive my truck very normally. it is not abused and does very little off road driving. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500. ever since the vehicle was purchased, the engine has been making a strange noise. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they found no failures. the manufacturer stated that they were aware of the pistons striking against the metal because there was not enough clearance between the pistons and the cylinder. the manufacturer could not correct the failure and there were no recalls for the issue. the mileage on the vehicle has exceeded the warranty; therefore, the manufacturer will not assist. in addition, the contact heard a noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. the dealer stated that there was a slack in the rear, which could be repaired by replacing the yoke with a nickel plated cover. the repair was not performed because the contact feels as if the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair cost. the failure mileage was 87,000 and current mileage was 125,350. updated 06/09/09. *lj the consumer stated when the transmission shifted into 2nd and sometime third gear, the rear end of the vehicle sounded as if it were about to come apart. the engine also made a noise as if the valves were clicking and tapping. updated 06/10/09.*jb
Was coming home from work, the service 4wd drive light came on, shut the vehicle off, the light would go off for awhile, then come back on. as soon as i got home i called my mechanic, he said he had worked on several 2000 silverados with this same problem lately. also found out the neighbor had the same problem with the same vehicle (model and year the same). turns out it is a faulty switch in the 4wd button in the dash, won't fully engage, and could scatter the transfer case. our mechanic has the vehicle right now, he replaced the switch in the dash, and also performed the recalls that we found ie: abs & tailgate cables. *nm
My transmission went out @ 70637 miles . this conversion van is used mainly for long distance travel. isn't it rather coincidental that my neighbors like van's transmission went out too. now this is after the extended warranty expired on 3/24/2005. this van has been nothing but trouble. i have never gone on a trip with out some sort of vehicle trouble with this van. it left me in the boondocks of minnesota last summer three times because of a faulty "security" computer chip and has numerous "engine check lights" that come on and then off. but, the main thing is the transmission. i firmly believe that general motors installed a transmission that is too small for a vehicle of this size and weight. *jb
Rear axle had broken after making a lot of noise while driving. had taken to dealership, and mechanic repaired axle. but problem/noise, had reappeared. mechanic indicated will not repair until axle breaks again. *ak
Vehicle does not shift properly because car was purchased with a missing out off transfer case seal. while driving computer system completely shus down, and vehicle is also pouring transmission fluids. *ak
This for a chevrolet c1500 truck, year 2000. the yoke in the differential won't stay tight. it has come loose twice. i have had it repaired twice. looks like it is coming loose again. starts to make a whining sound when it starts to get loose, especially when going downhill. *nm
1. the first incident with the transmission going out was a factory defect. it had problems going into reverse and it would get stuck between 1st and 2nd gear it was replaced free of charge. 2. the second incident was a o-ring busted loose from the radiator that connected the transmission line to the radiator and spurted transmission fluid on the exhaust manifold and spark plug wires with caused the engine compartment to catch on fire. the replaced what they felt needed to be replaced.
