We have classified the 12 complaints from 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Fatal collision occurred on 8/20/15 on sr 126e in lane county, oregon. vehicle drifted off roadway and sustained frontal impact with large tree resulting in engine fire. this is the third of three chev silverados that have been involved in frontal impacts this year that has resulted in a fire
Driving at approximately 30 mph, started to make right turn and engine suddenly shut off and just as quickly kick started. later same day engine shut off in parking lot, but i was able to immediately restart it. the next day engine did the same thing (shut off) but again, i was able to immediately restart it. *tr
My car has only 50,400 miles-its a 2009, yesterday while driving i felt a jolting in the rear end of the truck and it continued each time i stopped and started driving again. i took it to my mechanic who informed me it was a transmission shifting problem. i went on line and discovered that this issue has been related to other silverado trucks as a recall due to a shift cable adjuster problem which can lead to a roll away. *js
While driving one day, i noticed the tow/haul button didn't work, then the gas gauge. eventually, within a year, all the gauges stopped working. sometimes they go on and later off again. i don't know if they are even accurate to any degree when they do come on. about a year ago the truck shut off while i was driving but after i was safely off the road it started again. that has not happened since. i have tried to find the problem but as of now i have been unsuccessful. myself or my mechanic, who works for the county and is very capable. i know many people with the same or similar vehicles and this seems to be quite common. i also own a 2003 suburban and these things are starting with that truck too. these have been good trucks but i want to be safe and not have to get rid of my vehicles. abs, wipers, defrost, hvac, and all gauges are affected. i have replaced hvac controls and dash gauges and other parts but still the same problems. such as whatever hvac controls that i put in it still only works on high. watch out if your speedometer acts strange. *tr
While pulling into my driveway, the brake pedal stated chattering like the anti-lock brakes were activating. the abs light came on intermittently and when the truck was being parked in front of the garage it would not stop and went through the garage door. *tr
My truck has a tow/haul feature where you push a button to turn the feature on and off. i bought a travel trailer, i pushed the button and it didn't come on. i researched the problem and found many other complaints with the same problem. i found out that there is a orange wire in the steering column that tears. every person that i saw with the problem had that orange wire broken, i opened up my steering column and sure enough that was the problem. there is a brace where the wire fits in. the brace had cut the wire. i tried to fix it but the wire is so small i couldn't. *tr
Abs and parking brake lights will not go off. dealer has told me that the anti-lock brakes will not work in this condition. state of colorado will not allow my vehicle to pass the required emissions test with the vehicle in this condition. checked if there was a recall and there was but my state, colorado is not included in this recall (nhtsa campaign id number: 05v39000). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the security system failed causing the vehicle not to start. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the main wiring system was repaired. the contact stated that the repair caused the headlight and radio to become inoperable. the dealer stated that the contact would have to pay for a diagnostic test for the headlights and radio failure before being repaired. the headlight and radio were not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 119,694.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated the code for the body control module was missing and causing the vehicle to engage the 4-wheel drive. the vehicle was extremely difficult to control when the failure would occur. the vehicle was not inspected or repaired. the failure mileage was 114,000 and the current mileage was 114,446.
After the truck was turned off and in park our son (who is under two) was able to shift into neutral and other gears. the truck rolled in the garage. this occurred when the key is between the off position and accessory position. *tr
Gas gage consistantly changing. seems to be bad design on these models. everyone i know that has around this same year has this problem. failure to work can leave a person stranded. i was told by two different chevrolet dealers that this is a bad design and that the fuel pump has to be changed to fix the problem. *nm
Fuel gauge work when it wants too engine is a 5.3 their are too many people having the same thing happening to them. this is a safety it should be recalled. *tr
When air temperature is above 65 degrees the security light is displayed in the information center. several weeks later the truck failed to start after repeated attempts. fuel filter, spark plugs were replaced. dealer informed me that the pass-lock security system malfunctioned, and thinks that i'm trying to steal the truck. sensor, wiring harness and one other pertinent part were replaced to fix the problem. several months later, problem recurred. mileage at that point exceeded the warranty, leading to more money coming out of my own pocket. several months passed and problem has once again become apparent.*ak
I own a 2000 chevrolet silverado pick up truck, i am having severe electrical problems with my vehicle. it is out of warranty and the dealer states they are not responsible for the repairs. i bought the truck used and have put only 10,000 miles on my vehicle and mostly use my company car. i am looking ofr some type of relief please help.*ak
The positive post broke off the delco battery which came with the vehicle when it was purchased new from the dealership. the dealership which sold the vehicle refused to honor the warranty which came with the battery when the vehicle was sold.*ak the consumer told chevrolet that battery acid was leaking and it was a safety issue, and the battery clearly states that it has a six year warranty and general motors should uphold that coverage. *cb *jb
Vehicle does not shift properly because car was purchased with a missing out off transfer case seal. while driving computer system completely shus down, and vehicle is also pouring transmission fluids. *ak
