Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I was leaving my barn, and as i was driving down the driveway i hit my brakes and my pedal dropped to the floor. i was only driving approx 5 mph so my truck slowly rolled to a stop, as i then put the truck in park, and called my friend who is also my mechanic. *tr

On driving my vehicle, my brakes slowly sank to floor, upon pumping my brake warning light came on, i pulled over to find brake fluid coming from under the truck, located under the driver door area. having my vehicle towed to my brothers house we noticed that the brake lines where rusted and rotted, right before they go into the abs, my vehicle has been sitting in his driveway since then, i do not have the money for repairs. *tr

Brake failure due to brake lines rusting through. i had the brakes fail on my 1999 chevrolet silverado. luckily i was in the process of leaving my drive way and not on the road traveling at a high rate of speed. the brakes totally failed and after investigating the cause i determined that the brake lines were all completely rusted through. *tr

Both front and rear brake lines blew out due to rot. i was traveling ~50 mph in the fast lane of a highway when i applied brakes and they didn't even try to stop the vehicle. right to the floor. i was forced to put the truck into the concrete divider and use the parking brake. i sideswiped one car. as the police took my report all brake fluid leak out from multiple ruptures. *tr

Was at boat ramp pulling trailer out of water, loud pop, parked the truck. came back to truck after boating to find i had no brakes. had front brake line replaced, vehicle sat for aprx. 2-3 weeks went to hook boat up only to find that when i went to shift into gear the rear brake line ruptured! have always owned chevy vehicles, time to listen to my fathers advice and go to ford! *tr

I have had right rear brake line rust out. i had front brake lines rust out. i had the brake line to the abs from booster rust out. had the fuel lines rust out(leaking raw gas) had oil lines for automatic transmission rust out. each time i was lucky that it happened in the city at low speeds and not while pulling a trailer.i also had trouble with the abs kicking in falsely at slow speeds(also rust build up at wheel sensor mounting place. *tr

Drove 1999 chevy silverado up driveway pushed brake pedal it went to floor almost hit house. looked under truck and saw that brake line had rusted into leaking all of the brake fluid out of the reservoir on,to driveway. very dangerous situation...there could have been a child or anyone in area...please make gm stand good for there products this is too important to let slide by. *tr

Loss of hydraulic brakes, pedal to floor. found steel line to abs valve blown, due to corrosion. *tr

Brake line rusted thru. i have have two different instances where the steel brake lines have corroded and caused brake failure. i have been involved in the automotive industry for most of my life, have only ever had this happen one before with a gm car (1972) eldorado. *tr

I was going to stop at a traffic light and the brake pedal went to the floor. i was lucky that there was no one in front of me and that i still had the front brakes. i limped it home and when i got back brake fluid was dripping out of the lines that run on the frame just under the gas tank. everything under the truck is rusted. the rocker panels are also rusted out. the truck bed is rusted on all sides as well. i have also had to replace the straps holding the gas tank on. they were completely rusted. i had one strap that had fallen off when i took it in for repair. *tr

Brake line burst and rendered my truck brakeless. someone is going to get hurt because of the faulty rust prone brakelines they put on these trucks. i was lucky that it happened when i was stopped. *tt

Truck was bought new. first incident was 7/2012 at my lake property when the brake system failed. truck was limped to a local garage for repair. the second failure was on an alignment rack after the application of new tires. the jig to hold the steering wheel to the brake peddle was applied, the brake line burst while on the rack. *tr

Backing out of my driveway the brake pedal went to the floor, the rear brake lines rusted through. to do the repair the rear calipers needed to be replaced because the both the bleeders and line connections were seized. flash forward one year and now the front lines front hoses and front calipers need the same thing. *tr

I had a brake line break and was lucky to not hit any thing or persons. i have never had a brake line go ever... *tr

All brakes lines had to be replaced because they rusted through. brakes had failed when driving on highway prior to replacement then mysteriously came back locked on one side (left rear). *tr

Coming home from vermont and 6 miles a way abs light came on,came to a stop sign and brake peddle went to floor i was pulling a u-haul trailer, got to where i was going and looked under and saw brake line was rusted, nice size hole. *tr

The rusting out of this vehicle is so bad. our brake line all have rusted through and our gas tank strap also rusted off. luckily no accident have occurred. *tr

Coming to red light push brake pedal no brakes, brake line broke due to rust. *tr

I happened to notice my brake line going to the rear brakes where wet, i checked in found the line had rusted thru. upon checking the other lines i found they all where extremely rusted. luck would have it i had just parked. i was forced to replace all the brake lines with new lines. this is a common problem with the chevrolet trucks from 1999-to the early or mid 2000's. i know several people who have experienced the same problem with rusted brake lines. *tr

Brake lines rusted needed replacement, pin holes in lines. *tr

A few years ago i was driving my truck (1999 chevrolet silverado z71 4x4) on a connecting road (dirt) when i hit the brakes to turn. the abs pump started running. i thought it was odd that it kept running but didn't think about it. when i returned back to my apartment, it was still running. i got up the next morning and the battery was dead. after charging the battery, i noticed the abs control unit (under the cab on the drivers side) was still running. i took it to a chevrolet dealership which proceeded to tell me i needed a new abs unit $1100. as i cannot afford an $1100 part on a 9 year old truck. i just unplugged it. both the brake and the abs light stay on in the cab any time the engine is running. i have attempted to find a used unit to no avail. the vehicle now has over 240000 miles on it, with exception of a little rust, the only issue i have is the anti-lock braking system. *tr

Driving home from work brake peddle went to the floor. my mechanic said brake lines rusted through. this happened again last year in another place on the truck. *tr

While driving on the highway my brake light came on. then as i applied the brakes under normal usage i felt the pedal go all the way to floor. was able to get it home. took to dealer who said all 4 brake lines had burst due to corrosion. charged me over $1500.00 to fix for new lines and bleeding the system. *tr

Brakes failed on my 1999 chevrolet silverado in june of 2007 as my wife approached our driveway. my wife was unable to stop and had to coast to a stop and pull to the shoulder. if this brake failure had happened at another place or time, there likely would have been a catastrophic accident. chevrolet dealer said that the front brake line had failed and fabricated a stainless steel brake line to replace the original. the incident cost me $1100 to replace the brake line. the silverado had approximately 46,200 miles on it at the time. in a second report to the nhtsa, i reported that the rear brake line had failed about five years later and at 90,000 miles. this second failure resulted in another horrifying incident of being unable to stop the silverado when the brakes were pressed. *tr

On at least 6 occasions since i purchased this truck, the brake lines have failed and ruptured. in all cases, the pedal sank to the floor, and only very limited braking was available. i have patched the brake lines in many places. most recently today, a brake line failed at the front right side near the frame rail. i made the needed patch repair, and the truck is ok for now. i have inspected those sections of the brake lines which have not been replaced, and can tell that they are deteriorating, and will be the next to fail. i am worried to drive this truck when i may need to stop in an emergency situation, and will not have adequate stopping distance. *tr

There have been consistent problems with this vehicle since we bought it on june 18, 1999. the frame and suspension looked as if it was driven in a salt bath - totally rusted. saw this right after buying it but the dealer would not do anything. we have never received any recall notices. the worse thing that happened was when the brakes went out on my wife while driving on the expressway about an hour away from home. the front shocks were bad with 553 miles. the egr valve went out the first week we had the truck. the brake lines, brake sensors and rotors have been replaced 7 times. as of today this truck has 52,000 miles and it is 15 years old. we will never buy another gm vehicle. does someone have to get killed or injured before anything is done? *tr
