Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Power steering keeps going in and out. cant drive car very far at all. while driving.

My steering goes out while driving almost caused a accident on a highay

I started my car, my traction light came on, and my service power steering like came on as well and i couldn't move my steering wheel. i turned the car off and back and and it didn't have again. i don't know what's wrong and i don't know what actions to take.

Steering goes out while driving, noticed a slight twitch in the steering wheel when i started it up to leave for work . it was doing this twitch while in park .. on the way home from work it goes out while driving on the highway

Whenever the car starts, the service esc lights come on and stay on. steering wheel is very hard to turn and won't turn unless the car is in motion thus causing me to wrestle with the steering wheel to make a right or left turn. every mechanic i've seen told me to trade it in because the repairs are quite expensive. they mentioned something about replacing the entire steering column. they also couldn't service the power steering because it's strictly electronic. this is not safe for me or my family because who knows when it will lock up for good while i'm driving. this has been going on for the past month. please help me

Upon driving the car the esc light and power steering light will come on and care will have no power steering.steering wheel also moves on it's on and makes sounds inside the column. very dangerous for my wife to have to drive and drop off the kids at school.nothing but problems out of the car since we purchased it 3 years ago.

Was driving on a city street approaching an s bend going down hill with a steep embankment when the power steering failed. power steering esc lights went activated. i almost went over the embankment before being able to forcefully turn the wheel and continued to the bottom of the hill and off to the side of the road. i was close to home so i was able to drive the car home. i called for a tow truck driver. when he arrived the power steering was fine no power steering messages. he was aware of previous recalls but this vehicle has no active recall even though it is the exact problem covered by same year make and model.

I was driving and i noticed a decline in power from the motor. then the dash start reading reduced engine power and esc and service traction control.

I currently have 2 open recalls and was never sent out notices for either, i am currently 15 weeks pregnant so that's a safety concern with me because they can both result in a crash.

The brake lights come on at any given time even when you aren't pressing on the brake pedal. when you press on the brake pedal sometimes the brake lights do not come on at all. i have replaced wheel hub/bearing combos, along with adding electrical grease to the connector for the light controls, nothing fixes this issue.

Brake lights remain on while pedal's not activated, and turn off when pedal is pressed. esc and traction error messages appear while driving, usually when coming to a complete stop at any given time. the lighting issue seems to coincide with the appearance of said error messages.

Electronic stability control esc light comes on and says service then esc off. this is a safety issue with these cars. seat belts fail. safety issue. and our will not start because the anti theft system is activated for no reason. all of these are consistent with several other complaints. gm should be ashamed for selling vehicles that fail. approximately 78,000 miles. hopefully they will step up and correct these problems!!

Brake lights flicker while driving when not pressing on the brakes. ecs and check engine lights keep coming on and the car is jerking while driving.

Esc , traction control lights come on. then rear brake lights work opposite of standard brake light design. the rear brake lights come on while driving. when brake pedal is depressed, the brake lights turn off. this has been going on for two years now. the dealership just patches the repair. the repair only lasts a few weeks.

I have a 2010 and repeatedly have issues. it has been to the dealer as it completely lost power in rush hour. car dash said service abs, power, saver mode, traction control, service esc and then died. i took to shop and they replaced the pcm is what they told me. car has since had lose of power, sluggish, dies periodically, and now almost 3 years after thousand dollar repair not to mention the air bag light that is on that they are telling me will cost at least 1000 dollars as well to repair as my car is out of warranty and that it is a saftey concern. my car died again while coming through a intersection and the p0341 has come up and been replace3d four times since february 2019. this car is a danger and i am forced to drive it when it runs as i have so much money invested i cant afford a new one. i have also replaced the throttle body and just about every sensor under the hood including spark plugs and battery and car is still acting up. why are they not helping us. someone is going to get killed. it stalls suddenly and with little to no warning. i am terrified to transport my kids in this car. please help us'

Even after brake light recall from 2014, i continue to have problems with the brake lights illuminating when i'm not pressing the brake pedal, and turning off when i press the brake pedal. i've had this problem 'fixed' several times now, and it keeps happening. most recently, in january 2019, and now 6 months later, it is happening again. while i'm driving (and not always while i'm braking), the service traction, service esc, esc off warnings come on my info display, as well as the traction control image. from that moment on, while i'm driving and not pressing the brake pedal, my brake lights are all illuminated. when i lightly press on the brake, the lights go off, unless i continue to press harder on the pedal, and then they'll come on again. this is such a hazard while i'm driving that i don't even want to go anywhere. why does this keep happening? if this was supposedly fixed with the recall, it absolutely wasn't. i've seen other people report the same issue on the online forums, so i know i'm not alone with this problem. it is a major safety issue and needs to be fixed now! i will be going back to the dealer who did the repair in january to get this fixed again, but i don't understand why i should need to. it shouldn't continue to happen if it is really being fixed. something else is wrong with this vehicle.

4 cylinder with electric power steering is not part of the recall..i'm having problems with the power steering completely going out while driving in motion and parking .....also the traction control lights constantly stays on

The steering wheel would twitch then it became very hard to turn while in motion. the power steering and esc off lights came on

The esc light comes on and tells me it needs serviced. when this happens the brake lights stay on even if my foot is not on the brake. it also has a problem with the gear shift when trying to pull it out of park. this also disables my cruise control. this issue happens sometimes as soon as i start the car or after driving for a bit. i've taken the car in to get the problem fixed. they replaced the brake sensor and that worked for a week then the esc light came back on and the brake lights stayed on.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle unintentionally accelerated and then slowed down. the esc and traction control warning indicators were illuminated. the vehicle was taken to kramer tire (6628 providence rd, virginia beach, va 23464, (757) 346-5739) where the front brakes and rotors were replaced, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the passenger side cv joint was replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 108,000.

My steering is locking up and vibrating. if turning the steering and key at same time it starts back working.and my driver side headlight keeps going out. i've had the waiting harness changed and it still continue to not work.

Electric power steering stopped working on match 18, 2019. i was turning right onto busy 4 lane city street from a parking lot, speed < 5 mph. could not turn into right lane, struggled to swing car into left lane w/o crossing median. it was not simply a loss of power steering. i've driven old cars that never had power steering and this was 10 times more difficult to steer. i think i strained a muscle in my shoulder. turning did not get easier as i accelerated, eventually to abt 40 mph. struggled through 3 more hair raising turns (all turns made) before parking it at home. the esc/tcs indicator came on in the parking lot and stayed on. error msgs displayed were power steering, service esc, service air bag. i heard no chimes. we gave my daughter this used car in 2015. she had complained a couple of weeks prior that steering sometimes became difficult. a search by vin shows no incomplete recalls. it would be extremely useful to know if this car was part of a recall(s) and then repaired. if it was, it was repaired incorrectly, not all problems were resolved, or the parts used have a short life span. if gm isn't covering this situation, that's a crime. also, if not covered by gm i'll take it to our regular mechanic since his work is more reliable than the local dealership's. if my baby had been hurt in this death trap, heads would've rolled - metamorphically of course. i'll also be consulting a lawyer.

Power steering has gone out in the car, getting esc repair light and power steering lights on the console. extremely difficult to turn, especially at low speeds. occured while driving in the city.

I was driving when all of a sudden the steering went out. it says esc and power steering on my dash.

Traction control light continues to come on. when this happens the brakes malfunction illuminates when i'm not pressing the brakes and goes out when i do. disables cruise control. replaced body control module 6 months ago to correct these issues still having the same problem very unsafe.

Driving home from work about 30mph and all of a sudden the car looses power and eco assist shuts off, with traction control, traction assist, and power steering . this seems like a safety issue as i couldn't pull off to the side of the road due to these issues and the car would only go 10 mph!! i see other have complained about this issue in nys and nothings been done or when we go to the dealership they just clear the codes and say nothings wrong! this is an issue as if someone was behind me they would of hit me as when these light came on the dash with the check engine light the car went from 30mph down to 10 mph and the car ran rough and slow . please do something with this issue as alot of people complaining !

While driving down the road, the cluster panel starts showing warning lights for the steering, service esc, and the mil light was on, the car lost power, lost power steering and had no power, no matter what i did, the car would not respond. this putting my family and me in danger, we were driving on the idl in tulsa oklahoma at rush hour, very, very busy road at that time of day. i have researched the problem, this is a very serious issue that will end up getting someone killed. the car is completely unstable, erratic and very hard to drive, you lose power (no acceleration) and power steering. the car has 142,000 miles on it, that seems to be when it happening to other vehicles also.

Vehicle suddenly powered down to 10 mph, shook violently and sputtered. engine light, traction control light and service esc message across dash. this left me stranded at midnight, pregnant while in route to see dying grandfather. in order to get home approx 60 miles away, had to remove battery terminal for a reset. dealer could not fix due to reset alas code was cleared. did not experience this issue again until out of warranty almost one year later. slowly got to dealer. needs new throttle body. initially dealer claimed servicing would be covered due to tsb and extended warranty for issue; however, after diagnosis dealer denied any special coverages existed for this issue. apparantly a $600 fix, denied service and replaced ourselves for $185 part.

While driving 50mph on a state highway, power steering failed. service esc and power steering alerts displayed 2/19/19. dealer identified steering wheel torque sensor and steering wheel position sensor out of calibration. technician re-calibrated sensors. approximately 2 hours after picking up the vehicle 2/20/19 the power steering failed again. this is a serious safety issue that has the potential of serious bodily harm.

Power steering. is going out 3 days after getting for my birthday feb salesman new it cuz he seen lights on dash but kept saying just drive it well my extra coverage warranty it does not cover crazy huh cuz i have been told2 times different mechanic that there was or should of been a recall. driving and power steering goes out it is scary..

Power steering warning comes on. esc. traction steering is stiff to turn is hard.

I have service esc light (electronic stability control) and power steering lights that just recently came on in my 2010 chevy malibu. i have called gm and they refuse to fix the issue because it supposedly isn't under my vin number [xxx], even though my car is experiencing the same issue as listed in the recalls. i have visited numerous sites from people who have 2010 malibu's and have had the same issue with them refusing to fix the issue because it again supposedly wasn't listed under their vin. i will be getting a lawyer and if my car causes me to get into an accident i have given all information to go forward with a lawsuit. this is absolutely unacceptable and i will never buy another car from gm!!!!!!!! now i have to pay out of pocket and i have no idea what it will cost me!!!! i don't know why i am even bothering to write this complaint because nothing will be done!!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Driving to work and out of nowhere dash starts dinging and flashes 'service esc' the. 'power steering' and steering gets stiff (no power steering). luckily it was just me in the car and not with my 3 and 5 year old and also not on highway when it happened. my car has 157k miles and just found out that there was a gm extended coverage on it up to 150k miles for this particular issue and was not aware. i'm over the 150k miles now so i'm stuck with the repair but thankfully no one was hurt. this is a major safety issue gm!!

We purchased this malibu lt 2010 in september 2018, it had under 100,000 miles on it. a few days ago i was pulling out of the driveway & the power steering went out & the esc & powersteering warning lights came on. i shut the car off & turned it back on it was working fine until 3 days later. i was driving on the highway & it did it again powersteering went out & the esc & powersteering warning lights came on & its been doing it ever since. it had done it in mid turns, drivibg straight, any time it feels like it.i can feel in the steering when its about to do it. i feel like a pull a catch i would say. this was an extremely dangerous situation especially ehen you have teenage drivers in your household. i've foubd multiple online reports about this very problem ovet the past fee days as i have been researching.

Bought in february 2018 93 k miles jan of 2019 with 124 k on it replaced front tires and brakes and rotors immediately got in to test drive steering had a violent twitch. took it to have steering sensor recalibrated .. got in car zero electric steering.. unhooked battery.. hooked back up steering extremely lose with even worse twitch twitch started in park while running and has progressed to a twitch all the time while running.. by twitch i mean a violent left to right vibration of the steering wheel

While driving at 60mpg car rpg dropped to nothing, couldn't use the accelerator. able to move to the side of the road. got it going again then not even 5 mins later car started shaking badly, couldn't use the accelerator, pulled over. dash flashes with esc. service, traction control, engine reduced and check engine light comes on. this problem has been on going for well over a year. has nothing to do with colder months, first time it happened it was september. went out today to warm up my car as it was iced and snowed over, while cleaning it off it was fine. came back inside to finish getting ready to go and when i came out to my car, it was shaking, rpm was bouncing between 1-3, all the notices were on the dash again. took it for a drive around the block to see if it would resolve, couldn't get it to go above 15 mpg. i've taken it to numerous garages to get looked at, its always something different. one "fixed" the engine, another did an oil change and filter change, one changed the alternator, etc. everytime i take it somewhere they "fix" it for it to run for a week or so at a time til this happens again. luckily it has not caused any accidents but i will not drive it in this condition. been told its an electrical problem as well but i'm tired of spending money for it not to fix the underlying issue which no one can seem to figure out. i have learned this is a problem for a lot of chevy malibu owners. i am unable to get another vehicle so i am stuck with what i currently have.

I purchased this car in december 2018, it had 123,500 miles on it. this morning as my son was proceeding through a left turn through an intersection, the steering suddenly locked up, warning light "service ecs" came on, and he had no power steering! we turned the car off for about five minutes and restarted the engine, and everything was working again, so we were able to get it to a safe spot to park. this was a horribly dangerous situation that i've seen multiple online reports about today in my search for some answers.

The brake lights are engaged while driving the car and disengage when braking causing a serious safety hazard for not only he driver but others following behind. because the brake lights are on while driving following cars crash detection systems engage. this has been going on for quite awhile. it was "fixed" by a chevrolet dealership once already but it is back. huge concern for my 17 year old driving the car.

In motion on the highway. engine power would reduce and the service esc light and service engine light would come on. engine would run rough and the car was not able to go faster than 30 mph. as soon as the light came on the speed would decrease. i was in the middle lane of traffic going 60 mph when this happened. i had to move over two lanes in heavy traffic going 30 mph.

Transmission failure, car will turn off on interstate or highway without warning, car will shut down while driving , roll backwards, won't accelerate. had to get towed 3 times! after new transmission , sensors and fuel pump injector , the car is still doing the same thing ! this is a safety hazard and a lack of responsibility for defected products and price gauging mechanics ! problem is still existing. i see this car is under many recalls and the transmission was built in korea!

When driving on expressway check engine light came one followed by traction control, reduced engine power, and loss of power. i couldn't accelerate and i was in the fast lane when it happened going 70 mph. i lost power and luckily i was able to make it over to the shoulder. car started shaking badly. i cut it off and restarted it. went away few miles down the road it happened again. for the past 2 years it's been happening only during cold months between december and february. this is a serious safety issue

Headlight connection overheats making headlight go out. abs control locks brakes durring normal driving. rear brake lights engage while driving without pressing on brake.

While driving on the highway, my check engine light came on. then on the dash it said "engine power reduced" along with "service esc". engine would rumble so i had to pull over on the highway. had to cut engine off a few time until the dash cleared but check engine light remained.

My car keeps popping up service esc, engine power reduced and service traction lights keep coming on. have had fixed 3 times and sill keeps happening. while vehicle is driving it will die for no reason, once started back up sometimes it stops other times starts shaking and as no power.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving 50 mph, the brake indicator illuminated independently. in addition, the service traction control warning indicator illuminated and the cruise control became inoperable. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired on february 19, 2015 per nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control); however, the failure recurred twice. jeff wyler springfield chevrolet (located at 2237 w 1st st, springfield, oh 45504, (937) 525-4646) was notified. the manufacturer was also notified of the failure and provided case number: [xxx]. the approximate failure mileage was 163,000. *parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *an

While driving the esc, traction and power steering lights came on and then the power steering went out. for a short time i could stop, turn the car off and it would work again . now there is no power steering and of course all the lights are still on. this year model was listed as one of the recalls for the power steering but not my vin number. i have had this car in the shop for a recall on the lighting system that was faulty which in the recall it did say that it could cause the power steering to go out as well as the esc and traction. the chev dealership said that this was not correct. the estimate i was given was about $1500.00 to fix the problem.

I found a complaint before about the power steering going out on my car. today is october 17th 2018 the incident happened at about 5:50 in the morning my wife was driving to work in the vehicle on the freeway and the power steering went out again and the wheel locked up and turnt the car onto a construction she was able to stop the vehicle. she tells me that every light came on and started flashing then it went away and said ese, no power steering, service, no traction. she turned off the vehicle and started it back up and everything worked again, this has happened more than one time and each year is happening more and more.

2010 chevy malibu brake light on without brake being applied car service traction control light on and service esc i believe it's due to a bad body control module

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving various speeds, the brake lights remained illuminated. when the brake pedal was depressed, the brake lights would not illuminate. in addition, the electronic stability control and traction warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 129,642.

The brake light comes on when the brakes are not being depressed and goes off when it is being depressed. this disengages the cruise control and also the service esc light comes on when it happens. the 2014 recall was done by the dealer and yet the problem keeps occurring. there was an update to the recall and this was also done but has not fixed the problem. this issue seems to happen intermittently and randomly.
