Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Door latch malfunctions. the auto lock function does not work when transitioning from drive to park, and the door is unable to be opened and closed. the only way to exit/enter the vehicle is by crawling across passenger seat - safety concern.

The driver's front doors are locked when the car stops at the p park. and only open after several attempts to starting the engine and switching speed. this is a very dangerous security problem.

While driving , if the keys are wiggled the electrical system shuts down. total system shut down. wiggle keys around and wait 2 min.+-, car will start and drive ok. has happened 2 times so far. taking to chevy dealer on 12/7/2015.

Brake lights were working in reverse after recall repairs were done so chevy charged me full price for diagnostics because they said that the recall repairs were already done, so there was nothing they could do. we replaced brake switch. a month later problem persisted, chevy dealership charged $50 for relearning brake position, even though that was all supposed to have been fixed in recall repairs. brake lights are still not working properly and the traction control/esc light is on, and cruise control doesn't work. i am now taking it back to dealership and they are charging me an additional $50 just to take another look at it. i feel i shouldn't be charged for any of this since it all should have been taken care of during the repairs done for recall #: 14v252000. this is a dangerous manufacturing error that gm should be acknowledging and repairing at no cost to the owners. i know i cannot be the only one suffering this issue especially after reading numerous customer complaints online.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. when the weather was below 50 degrees, the vehicle failed to accelerate. when the failure occurred, the reduce engine power and traction control indicators illuminated. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 98,000.

The car has consistent service esc / service traction light warnings that cause multiple problems. the most serious now is that the back brake lights buen constantly as if i'm riding my brakes. it also disengages the traction control. this has gone on for 3 years, 7 repairs and it's now out of warranty. i took it most recently to capitol chevrolet in austin. they simply replaced the same malfunctioning part again. i have case complaint with gm, but no resolution yet. it occurs now every time i start the car. it used to be intermittent

My car wouldn't start, so i looked it up on the internet. the anti-theft light was on, it told me to unplug my battery so the car would reboot the system. i did that, then it started. it happens now about once a week. i have called the dealership and that year there is no recall on it, but previous years it was. i have no notice when it will happen, the car is parked . it just won't turn on.

I have only been driving this car for 5 months. purchased used at dealership. i do not drive far. all of a sudden esc and "service traction" shows up on my dash. my rear break light turns on and i'm not touching the break. the "service traction esc" shows up more and more frequently. to me, this is a big safety issue and i see that my car is doing the same as others but gm told me via phone call, "only certain vin numbers are recalled". somethings wrong here. is it going to take someone to be severely injured or worse for this to get handled? i believe in american made cars, but why aren't the rest of us with this make and model and year also in this recall? we are having the same problems! all i was doing while driving was driving 45 mph on a straight flat road, where speed limit was 50mph!

I was stopped at a stop sign to turn and when i accelerated a quick flash of the service ecm message came on and then disappeared, but the car stalled out in the middle of the intersection. when i tried to restart the car, it would turnover, run for 2 seconds and then die. i had the car towed to my house, where we charged the battery and took it over to autozone to have the electronics scanned, where it showed 3 codes: u0121, p0106, p0621. they scanned the battery and alternator, and all came up with a clean bill of health (so to speak). upon reading online it looks like this was an issue in malibu's 2004-2009 (which was recalled), and i believe they never fixed the issue and now 2010's may be affected. my worry is that this will happen again and it will be at a busier intersection or worse yet, on the highway.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving at approximately 35 mph at night, the tail lights would only illuminate when the vehicle was in motion. when the brake pedal was applied, the tail lights would deactivate. the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control), but the failed recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 98,000.

2010 chevy malibu. brake system issues.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the exterior brake lights illuminated independently, which affected the cruise control and abs. the contact experienced difficulty shifting the vehicle out of park. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake sensor and pedal position senor malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the failure mileage was 42,000.

We got up this morning, went to get into our car and as i tried to unlock it i noticed my keyless entry would not unlock the door. i asked my boyfriend if his was working, and his wouldn't open the car either. so i unlocked the door manually and no alarm sounded. the dash didn't light up as it usually does either. i tried starting my car, the idiot lights came on as did my stereo, but the car never tried to turn over. we had no interior lights, no headlights, and not even hazards!! i thought hazards we're supposed to work in emergencies but apparently i was mistaken. thank god we weren't broke down in the middle of a road or freeway. i've noticed other years of this particular car have a recall for an ignition switch, why not this one? because their stories sound just like mine. this car is being towed to the shop tomorrow morning. if it is the ignition switch, chevy will be hearing from me.

As i was driving a light came on that said esc, traction, service esc at one point it said traction off. it has happened numerous times sometimes i go to start the vehicle and the light is on and the car will not budge from park and i was stranded for over an hour in the evening all alone. other time i was driving and the light came on and the brake lights are on the whole time and people were honking at me. my worst time was when i was driving going about 55 on a very dark road with my daughter in the car had about 40 miles to drive to get home and the light came on as i was driving and apparently then i had no brake lights at all ! all the way home no brake lights i was unaware of this until a car drove up on me almost hitting me from behind because he could not see me until he was right on me and i had to swerve over to the next lane to avoid being hit this was a very scary and traumatic incident for my daughter and i! this is beyond dangerous and something needs to be done, when i called the dealership they said their was a recall but that they had fixed it during my last oil change which i was never made aware of but case being if it was "fixed" then why am i still riding in a dangerous vehicle?! one day its okay and the next day i may be on the express way doing 55 hoping not to die due to a faulty system something needs to be done about this issue before someone is seriously hurt! i am disappointed in the way the chevrolet dealership is just brushing this off as yes it was a recall but we took care of it supposedly so now that's not the problem in their words it's now your problem! i can say that by the way i have been treated and getting the run around and being scared to drive a vehicle that i no longer feel safe in has really really caused me to dislike chevrolet!

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the steering wheel was loose and the radio turned off and on independently. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

I have water in my back floor and my heat and air doesnt work sometime. we took it to the dealership they couldnt find where the water was coming from

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the esc and traction warning indicators illuminated. the contact depressed the brake pedal and the pedal failed to respond. the contact continued to depress the brake pedal and it eventually responded. the contact pulled over and it took several attempts to shift the vehicle into park. the vehicle was powered off and did restart, however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed that the esc system needed to be recalibrated. the vehicle was repaired, however, the failure recurred. the contact also stated that the brake lights remained illuminated the entire time unless the brake pedal was actually being depressed. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and had not been repaired. the contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, and service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

While i was driving to work i noticed that the brake light in the rear window was only working on an intermitent basis. i had recall work done on my car in october of 2014 under recall 14v252000 or chevy recall 13036 then in mid july of this year my car started doing what they said that it might do in the recall letter. on august 3 i took my car to cargill chevrolet in putnam, ct. to see why it was doing this i thought that it should be covered under the recall. they then replaced a switch on the brake pedal at a cost of $272.03 that they said would fix the problem. the next day it was doing the same thing so i took it back and they said that the whole bracket in the rear window needed to be replaced at a cost of $402.40. this seems to fix the problem. they said neither repair was covered under the recall. i was wondering what your opinion was and if you had any other reports of defective recall work on this recall. thank you

I was driving through the intersection and the vehicle just stopped while going about 15-20 mph. the check engine light came on and i attempted to push the vehicle. the abs has engaged and the vehicle would not move. until giving gas and letting vehicle rev up to 4,000 rpm it jumped into gear and began to drive normal again. now the vehicle drives but revs at 2-3 gear and then just slows down, there were 13 fault reads from cpu which were all transmission control module fault and cpu malfunction. this happened out of no where and standard maintenance does get performed. i am told my warranty expired 2 months ago because they said that's the month it went to the dealership. i thought it went off when the vehicle was driven off the lot. i am due to pcs in 56 days to a new duty station and now my family and i are in a bind, i love chevrolet but i am at a loss right now with a very unsafe vehicle that will drive fine and out of no where rev up and just stop.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving 25 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the service esc and traction control message was displayed across the message board. the brake lights failed to illuminate. in addition, while driving without the brake pedal being depressed, the brake lamps illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.

It first started on june 8th i went to the store and when i came out i unlocked my door with the key but the door wouldn't open from the inside or outside on the driver side. it appeared as if the latch weren't latching on in the inside of the door panel. i called around and finally someone was able to get me in by prying into my door and pressing the unlock button to unlock the other side. i climbed in for three days then out of nowhere it opened to my surprised. i was getting ready to take it in to see about getting it fixed when i went to get in that afternoon it stopped working again. getting frustrated i made an appointment at chevy but it would take 3 weeks to get in so i left the vehicle parked and used public transportation. a friend of mine tried to open it on july 5th 2015 and it still wont open. i have an new alarm and the only way i can drive it is still by climbing over to the driver seat almost 2 months later. there's a lot of complaints abouth the 2010 malibu doors not opening and something needs to be done about it. i haven't reached the 50000 mile point yet on that car and i'm very frustrated because it's always something.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving at 60 mph, burning fumes emitted into the vehicle. the contact was in the process of pulling off the highway when the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and pull over safely. while parked, a police officer noticed smoke coming from the trunk of the vehicle. the fire department was notified. the trunk was manually opened by the firemen and they noticed the smoke was coming from the fuse panel. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 69,700.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact received a notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was to attach the wiring harness to the bcm with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the bcm and the harness connector and the bas harness connector, and re-learn the brake pedal home position. the vehicle was repaired under the recall; however, the failure had not occurred until after the recall repair was performed. after the recall was performed, the brake light was continuously illuminated without the brake pedal being depressed. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they stated that the wiring harness for the third brake light needed to be replaced, but the failure had not occurred until after the vehicle was remedied under the recall. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 113,000. the vin was unavailable.

At 70 mph the cruise control shut off by itself and the service esc light illuminated on the dash. i also noticed the brake lights came on when foot was off the brake pedal and shut off when i depressed the brake pedal. this has happened intermittently in the past 2 weeks. i took car into turan-foley chevy dealership in gulfport, ms on 4/08/15 and they recommended replacing the bpp for $242.25, which i had them complete. they also said the problem may be caused by the ebcm-bpmu which would cost over $1100.00. the "service esc" light came on again on 4/09/15. i have not noticed any performance issues such as i have read in other forums regarding decreased power. recall # 13036 was completed on car 10/14/14 by dantin chevrolet which according to what i have read was supposed to fix the problems i am now having. i mentioned this to turan-foleys service department, but they said they cannot re-open a closed recall. i wonder how many times my brake lights have not worked properly as i average over 700 miles a week. this is an accident waiting to happen. please help! *tr

While driving to work, i noticed the steering shake and stiffen up and i had loss of all power steering. soon after that i had my driver side tire blow out and almost caused an accident. a couple of days later, i drove it to the dealership and the service representative told me that chevy malibu's did have a recall on the electric power steering pump and torque sensor but not for my model (ltz). which didn't make sense to me. just because it's a different trim, the parts would be different? it doesn't seem possible. if this issue is occurring in chevy malibu's, it should be addressed to all malibu's regardless the trim of the vehicle. i would appreciate any help with this issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving 65 mph, the check engine, electronic stability control, and traction control warning lights illuminated. the contact mentioned that the vehicle began to jerk but stopped at higher speeds. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was not found. on another occasion, the vehicle jerked before it stalled. the vehicle failed to start and was towed to the contact's residence. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

My malibu leakin water by the metallic structure of the roof in the driver's side and passenger's auto glass business up and noted that the windshield is no problem, the problem is in the metal ceiling joists factory default in the insulation ceiling. that same diagnosis it issued three workshops of car repair. it is a problem of making the 2010 malibu.

Cruise control ramdomly works. when cruise control fails, third brake light and two rear brake lights illuminate. when brakes are applied then the three lights then go off. when cruise control fails the triangular tsc warning light also appears on the display and a typed message appears stating "traction control system off". bottom line, when cruise controil fails, we drive with the brake lights illuminate and when braking, brake lights do not illuminate.

I received a safety recall notice via mail from gm due to a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety. the notice clearly stated why the (chevrolet malibu 2010) was being recalled. the reasons for the recall indeed persisted in the vehicle that i was currently operating so i had it serviced as stated in the notice to do. messages such as: (engine power reduced, service esc, service traction control, as well as service airbag) appeared. after a couple of days of having the vehicle serviced, the same problems that existed before resumed. what now!? *tr

Since we bought the car on more than one ocassion the sunroof has leaked, the air bag light comes on when you move the passenger seat, and the third brake light in the window does not work.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the power steering warning lamp illuminated and the vehicle stalled with no warning several times. also, the contact stated that the rear break light illuminated frequently when the brake pedal was not applied. the contact had to tap the brake pedal to get the light to turn off. the contact was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 14e044000 (steering) and 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control , exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic , vehicle speed control). the vehicle was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 171,000.

Owner was driving car was informed that tail lights were not working by another motorist. stopped at shop. repair shop unplugged light harness and customer left then approximately 20 mins. later smoke and fire was noticed coming out of the left rear trunk area at location of wiring harness area. this is the second wiring harness trunk fire this investigator has investigated on a chevy malibu in the last 6 months. a second fire was investigated with the same scenario on a 2006 chevy malibu that occurred on 8-11-2014. *tr

One night i was leaving work and i realized that my passenger side blinker was not working, indicating that my bulb was out. but by the time i made it home it was working again. a few days later i noticed that my blinker was not working on the driver's side. i found that when my lights are on the park light or blinker does not work on the passenger side of the car. when the lights are off the blinker or brake light does not work on the driver's side. also when the lights are on the temperature gauge on the console flashes with numbers then with the lines. i found that there was a recall on the 2010 malibu with the bcm body control module. that the brake lights luminate with out you stepping on the brakes. what needs to be known is that is also affects the blinkers, brake and park lights. it can also burn out your bulbs. it is a very dangerous situation because i take a chance on making a left or right turn and changing lanes without getting hit. i have small children and i pray every day that we make a safe journey. that is my only means of transportation.

Power steering has failed. while driving approx. 15 miles per hour power steering warning comes up and anti-traction light came on at that point the steering wheel jerks to the left and hit the curb. turned car off and back on to try and reset. this process works sometimes but not reset every time you do this we have to do it multiple times to keep going. this is a highly dangerous situation and i can see that the 2010 malibu has had enough issues to get gm to add this car to the recall from 2008 and 2009 malibu's. *tr

2010 chevrolet malibu. consumer changed address. *ta the consumer would like to know, where can he take his vehicle to get fixed, regarding the recall. *jb

I noticed many other people have a similar complaint for this particular problem. my driver seat belt is fastened, but the seatbelt light will come on and chime intermittently at random times while driving. i ensured all cables were connected, but this doesn't change the problem. i've inspected the seat belt buckle insert and there is nothing wrong with it because when i fasten my seatbelt, the light goes off. while i'm driving, about a minute later the light will come on and chime and then turn off, then moments later it will do it again. *tr

Me and my mother were driving down the road when my car came to a complete stop cutting off in the middle of traffic. earlier that day my car seems as if it didn't want to start . if finally started and when it did the outcome was it cutting off in the middle of traffic. several others whom i know that have chevrolet malibu's are also having this same issue and i think chevrolet needs to take the time and check the ignition m. *tr

I was stopped to wait on oncoming cars to pass to turn left onto a street. as i was about to turn with my children in the car the steering wheel locked up and would not turn.if, my steering wheel would have not been turned already, as i was getting ready to turn, i would have been hit on the right side where my child was sitting. i had no option but to drive up on the curb. this is the same situation as the 2008 and 2009 model malibu's which have a recall on them for steering:electric power assist system gm's recall #14v15300 recalled 3/31/14. obviously this recall needs to be added to the 2010 model since it is still occuring. i took my car to the freeland chev. where they had to replace the entire steering column due to the bad torque sensor. this cost me 689.00 to replace, i feel gm should take responsibility for this and add the 2010 model malibu to the recall list so that i can be reimbursed for their error and so their customers that put trust in purchasing their vehicles are safe. to note i have contacted and spoke with several reps at gm none of which offered any type of help with this matter. *tr

While driving the vehicle the vehicle will lose power, engine will stop running, and vehicle will not restart. this has happened 6 times now (since late 2014) we have had it to the dealership on all occasions. first they could not duplicate the problem after the vehicle was started. then they said it was the fuse panel, after it lost power and quit running after less than 10 miles they said it was an issue with the computer. we just got it back saturday 2/14/2015 and today 2/17/2015 it happened again. last time they said it was a problem with grounds 104 & 107 and did a global reset. we have e-mailed the ceo of gm and spoken to an executive from headquarters. they don't seem to comprehend the safety issues involved in a vehicle that will lose power at any time. please help us. it is an unsafe vehicle. we are unsure of exact date/dates of each incident. the date stated above is an estimate. *tr

I noticed while driving one morning my brake lights were illuminated, but i was not depressing the brakes. when i pushed the brake pedal, the brake lights went off. at this very same time when i tried to set the cruise control, it would not allow me to do so. this has been an on-again, off-again issue. some days it works correctly but other days the same problem persists. i researched online and saw that there was a recall by gm for this exact problem, recall id# 14v252000, but when i called the dealership and they checked my vin # they said that my car was not under the recall, and that they would have to take my car and see if it happens to them in order to fix it. i read the recall and it is exactly the issue that i am having. please help and add mine, and i'm sure others, vin#'s to this recall before something horrible happens! *tr
