Over a course of three years, i've continuously had problems with my taillights going out, cruise control malfunctioning, etc. i've had several near miss accidents because of this issue. my brake lights randomly go on and go off while my car is in motion and when braking the brake lights fail to "light up". i have had several mechanics give me different diagnosis' and have spent a few hundred dollars to remedy this and every thing has failed. i recently did some research and came across this which is exactly what is wrong with my vehicle. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/searchresults my car was also given a diagnosis of what might be wrong with my vehicle and the mechanic at chevrolet specifically mentioned that after i spend $700 to get this fixed, this might not remedy the problem. any information will be greatly appreciated. *tr

I have a chevy malibu 2005, the daylight running light/turn signal keeps burning out and have to replace it every 2 weeks, the socket gets so hot and burns the bulb out. it is happening on the drivers side.i am getting tired of this. i feel chevy should do a recall on this, when it burns out then i have no turn signal and tired of replacing the bulb. it gets so hot that the connector on the bulb actually melts and looks like the reflector covering has either gotten so hot it melts or something and now before it blew this time, i went to change the bulb once again after just changing it 2 weeks ago and found/saw that it now melted the covering, the yellow reflector covering. i think this is what it is called. somebody has to do something about this. and if i don't fix it i have a chance of getting a ticket for not having it working. i don't feel like i have to replace the socket since that is the problem as the pictures will show you. the date i picked is only apx. this has been going on for @ least a yr. i hope the pics help you to make a decision the right way. i am getting no where with chevy. updated 11/18/15*lj updated 05/23/18*jb
I own a 2005 malibu. i keep getting recall letters (electronic steering, ignition, body control module) they have no parts to repair any of them. what good is a recall when you can't get your car fixed? how long does the gov give manufacturers to actually repair a recall. seems to me if the default(s) is/are dangerous enough to issue a recall, there should be some repercussions when gm does not repair recalls in a timely manner. should i just go to the dealer and demand a rental till my car is made safe to drive? how about a picket sign? should i go and pay an independent mechanic and bill gm? For awhile now my power steering indicator has been going off and a few months ago it had become an issue when i veered off the road on a u-turn. i brought it to my local chevrolet dealership and they told me nothing was wrong with my car and that id be fine. few weeks ago i had another incident to where i was backing into a spot and couldn't turn my wheel and almost hit the car behind me. the chime goes off 2-3 times a week and have trouble starting my car sometimes ad well. being concerned i had done some research and found out that there is a recall on my 2005 chevrolet malibu. i immediately called gm and they took info from me and left message for chevy to call me. chevy never called me back so i called and they began to tell me the parts are not available to remedy the problem and the car is on a waiting list. i immediately began to do more research and came up empty. i don't understand how gm can leave me in this situation. i don't know if because my car is almost at the 10 year mark and than gm is not liable, or there is a loop hole in some way they can drag their feet. is there anything i can do, or anything being done about this?! *tr
Head lamp bulbs and turn signal bulbs have repeatedly burnt out. bulbs have been replaced by certified gm shop only to burn out again.
While traveling home i was pulled over by a state trooper. i was told i was not using my signal lights and my brake lights were not working. for the past few weeks my abs light has been coming on but i just had brakes put on my car. when i drive in the rain my brake petal goes almost to the floor before i can stop and my car makes strange scrubbing noises from time to time. as advised i had my lights checked by a professional and it was found my lights seemed to be burned/melted at the bottom where the bulbs connect to the base. i have replaced them several times and do not understand why they have to be replaced so often. due to these issues i am afraid to drive in the rain and constantly check my brake and signal lights. *tr
I brought my vehicle to my local auto mechanic complaining of a steering/// front brake engaging prematurely issue. my mechanic looked at my front brake system and established that there was nothing wrong with the actually units that make up the front braking system. he then instructed me to take my vehicle to the chevrolet dealership and have them look at the vehicle's computer to see if they can diagnose a possible sensor issue. i followed his advice. while driving at aprox 40 -45 mph, the steering wheel began to "shimmy" uncontrollably. at this same time, the front brakes began to engage independent of the brake peddles being depressed. i pulled the vehicle off the road and parked on a side street. as the vehicle sat stationary, i notices smoke eminating from both front wheelwells. moments later, the tire valve in my front left tire blew, causing the tire to deflate. i then had the vehicle towed to the dealership. i told them what had happened. i also informed them that i had already taken the vehicle to my local mechanic, describing the reason why; this was 06/12/14. on 06/13/14, the dealership informed me that they couldn't find anything wrong with the front braking system. i then reminded them that i had already told them that my mechanic had already established that fact, and that it was his recommendation that i bring my car to the dealership service center for a more detailed diagnosis. as it stands right now, the dealership still does not know why the issues i highlighted are happening. please note - 05/21/14 i had brought my vehicle in for the ignition switch recall. this problem began to manifest itself soon after that recall was completed. *js

This relates to recall campaign 14v153000. in 2009, i first began having power steering failures when accelerating from stopped. i would feel the steering wheel jerk to the path of least resistance (straighten) if i was in a turn, and would hear three chimes (ding-ding-ding). if i released the gas pedal, the power steering would resume operations, but if i maintained pedal activation, power steering would remain off and an alert would illuminate on the dashboard indicating power steering failure. the problem occurred with increased frequency on hot days, especially when air conditioning was operating on high (leading me to believe that it was a loss of power to the steering column, induced by a problem with the way that the electrical system was set up--giving higher priority to a/c fans than to the power steering). in october 2009, the vehicle was repaired under special bulletin 10183. however, in april 2014, i began having this problem again. on every day where the temperature was above 75 degrees, i've had this issue. i called gm and they stated that my vin is not among those affected, though i drive a 2005 chevy malibu and i clearly have had the same problem that other vehicles using the same parts. the dealer refuses to look at it unless i have a recall letter. nhtsa should look into how many customers have been notified out of this my, especially since there is nothing in the language (or logic) of this recall that should exclude my vehicle. *tr

I had sent an email regarding the recalls i had heard about. someone from your company called and also contacted nick chevrolet. when i was talking to the service tech ([xxx]) he made an appointment for me to drop my car off so that they could look at all of the issues i was having. when i got to the dealership on saturday may 17th i spoke with louis and explained what was going on and what [xxx] told me to do. [xxx] then proceeded to tell me "he didn't care what i was told, he was the service manager" at that point he proceed to tell me that the only recall for my car was some wire and that they didn't have the part and didn't know when it would be in. so he didn't listen and anything i had to say about my email to you or my conversation with [xxx]. i am extremely disappointed with gm and this dealership and would not recommend either to my worst enemy, hence my last email. if anything happens to me or my vehicle because of gm and/or [xxx] from nick chevrolet both will be held accountable! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I started my car and my empty light started blinking and dinging saying that my car had no fuel despite that i had put in $30 the day before, but when i looked at my miles to empty option on my radio it said 331 miles to empty. i decided once i got to work i'd try restarting it to see if that worked, well while i was driving down the street i realized none of my gauges were working i was going at least 35-40 and my car was reading 0 rpms and 0 mph which made me panic thinking well if my car is reading that im not driving and that i have no gas what if it just shuts off on me? so i pulled over afraid that it could cause my car to shut off it took five times of me starting the car and turning it back off for it to work. the only gauge that was doing anything during this time was the hot cold sensor for my coolant which would go the middle and then immediately fall back to cold. this is the first time this has happened and it makes me feel extremely upset and afraid to drive my own car! since it has stopped doing this i don't know what taking it into a shop will do since they can't diagnose a problem if it isn't occurring at the time. *tr
