I located a recall that my car has not been fixed and took it to the gmc dealer in laramie why where my car sat for 2 weeks and endless calls no call back for the ignition recall and other issues that my car had i have emailed and called and all i have gotten was a bill for non sence and headacks and nothing has been fixed on the car and i have lost money and time because they wouldnt fix the recall or even knolaage the problem. just un professional and un reasonable people that again would not even take the time to talk to me about the recall just let me loose my job... again the auto place is gmc laramie and the rep that would not give me the time about my car is rich!

This could be a significant safety issue. (will the alarm initiate itself that is located directly behind the key cylinder lock causing the vehicle to die while driving)? this has happened twice in the last month... apparently this car has a anti-theft feature not mentioned in the user manual (mentions a alarm for the car radio, but not the car itself). my car would "not start" because "it" thought i was stealing my own car while trying to start the car. according to chevrolet there is no way to turn it off or reset it manually (you just have to wait until the alarm goes away), the chevrolet dealer said unit must be replaced (which would cost around $350.00 to $400.00 which i refuse to pay). regarding safety -- what would happen if you need to move the car for some reason or another in an emergency and the anti-theft light starts blinking? (no way to disable the alarm) -- need to wait... first time it took over 8 hours, the second time it took less than 1 hour for it to reset.
Ignition switch has been getting loose and difficult to turn on for a long time. received ntsb recall letter about unintentional key rotation for the 1999 chevy malibu. i followed the ntsb instructions and removed the key from the key ring. on april 21, 2015 the chevy dealer glued a plastic housing to my keys. after receiving my keys back i could hardly get the key to rotate the ignition lock, i had to jiggle the key quite vigorously to get the ignition to operate. four days later the key fell out of the ignition and the engine shut down while i was driving about 40 mph. although difficult to steer and brake i was able to safely bring the car to the side of the road, locate the key on the floor and after reinserting the key restarted he car. i had a roll of tape in the glove box and i used it to tape the key in position. no further difficulties. on april 27, 2015 i replaced the lock core successfully. the recall fix for this problem is not acceptable or safe. i knew the ignition lock was getting bad but was not aware that the engine would shut down if the key fell out. this fix gave me a false sense of security that a problem was taken care of. when i took the car to the dealer i thought they would replace the lock core and keys and not just glue a housing onto my worn-out keys. my replacement of the lock core solved the problem the way the dealer should have. a letter needs to go out to all that received the recall letter that this is not an acceptable fix if the lock core is not replaced. when the dealer showed me the fix i laughed at the time and said you have to be kidding me that i've wasted 1:45 of my time waiting for the glue to dry. i do not know who thought this would solve anything or approved it but i think they are an idiot and should be fired from any position of responsibility for the safety that these recalls are suppose to address. *tr

I attempted to start my vehicle when the key would not rotate to start. a few tries had gotten stuck and it was not allowing me to remove the key or start the car, or if it would start the key could easily be pulled out of ignition while in run position. ultimately i had to replace the ignition tumbler and new keys. i have received recall for ignition problems with my year make and model. however i have been told that the repairs that i had to make do not fall under the recall, even though i had to replace the ignition tumbler and keys. *tr

My son was driving the car when it shut off in the road, could not restart it at all...no warning lights no nothing, just plain shut off. luckily, no accident was involved and they were able to push it to the gas station where we had it towed and fixed......i have the receipt showing it was the ignition switch that went out and caused the car to stop. when contacting the recall people, they said it was not their problem and the car was already fixed. this is totally wrong....my car is on the recall list for ignition switch and they refuse to do anything to help me with this. *tr

Anti-theft locked. will not allow the car to start. allowed ignition to stay in "on" position as stated to do, still won't work. tried this numerous times. (battery is fine-radio works, lights go on). car keeps "dinging" when doors opened, hood, or trunk. the lights keep flashing on dashboard. anti-theft light keeps going on. car had to be towed. loss of work and important appointments. resetting the lock key did not work. you refuse to put in a recall, yet there are many complaints of the issue and the consumer has to pay for the services. gm will not accept responsibility of the numerous complaints. *tr

Well started when i first bought this stupid pos. gas gage didn't ever work. i never know !much gas i've got. then the abs light started coming on flashing. had it checked out by a mechanic but couldn't find anyway to fix it. the brakes then started in on me almost causing an accident but the other car didn't realize i had no way possible to stop. they just quit working no notice. i then lost the ability to roll down the back window then the door on the drivers side quit locking. to make things better the passenger front window quit and lock completely gone. can't even unlock it with the key. steering then started. started hearing a big clunk when trying to turn the wheel and it started locking up. now it's been less than six months since buying this car and it's immobile. i have sunk so much into it that i couldn't afford to pay my lot rent so it's drove me to be homeless trying to live out of this thing chevy wants to call a car had to give my pride and joy my two children to my ex husband. i lost my job over not being able to get to work and late over car trouble. i've almost gave up on life and am currently sitting in this thing at a wal-mart with no way to pay to get it to turn left or right no way to repair it no way to pay for food or to replace this car. it's destroyed my lively hood as a woman and mother taking away everything i've worked so hard for in life. once in a blue moon can ask for enough money to stay in a cheap motel(not any kids would be good in if my meaning is understood) to get a shower but that's as far as help can go. *tr

The theft system, passlock, fails causing the car to not start for 10 minutes. this can and has happened consecutively, sometimes causing a wait of 30 minutes, before the car can be started. apparently the theft deterrent system is defective, known issue with gm, and does not read the key properly when inserted in the ignition system. so, it will shut off the fuel pump to the engine, disabling the engine. *tr

Security pass lock problem, security light is on,replaced ignition cylinder. car still periodically shuts down while driving what's gm want to do wait until a incident like toyota happens, or worse causing multiple deaths or injuries. i ran across to many similar incident like this on internet. what if someone is coming on a interstate and while merging this happens, it could cause horrific incidents gm is trying to rebuild its reputation and trust this isn't a good way . *tr

My 1999 chevrolet malibu takes 10 minutes to start after the anti-theft light starts blinking when i try to start my car. sometimes it takes 2 tries to get the car started(20min). it occurs randomly, but frequently. it has occurred 7 times in the last 3 days. it makes me late for work, even when i plan ahead to leave early, and makes me feel very unsafe. i have not replaced anything, as online research has shown me the problem is expensive and will return eventually, even after being fixed. please hold gm responsible for this error on their part. *tr
I try to start my 1999 chevy malibu and it will not start the security system light blinks then about 10 minutes later i have a chance of starting it again. sometimes it wont start the second try either then i wait another 10 minutes to start it. i am lead to believe this is something with the anti theft system. these vehicles need a recall so owners may have there cars fixed at the manufactures expense not ours. i just bought this car and it did seem ok for the first couple months. it is an ongoing problem. *tr
I bought this car from a private owner not a dealership. the only problem it had when we bought it was the fuel gauge did not work. now almost a year later i have multiple problems. the worst is while driving down the road at 65 mph my car just shuts off, no warning, the steering locks up and this happened with my 2 children in the car it was very scary. then while sitting at a red light when i got ready to drive it died on me again. each time i have had to pull over, sit for a few minutes, then try to restart and it usual does until dec. 2. it died and now it will not start. it will crank, the fuel pump is working and i have spark. other problems: while checking oil one day i leaned against car and it shocked me; brake lights work when they want to; cannot lock doors from drivers side; coolant has to be refilled every week (no leaks have been found); trunk is not wanting to open with button or key; radio/antenna gets 1 station; a/c worked when we got it and apparently the diode or something went bad but you cannot buy just the diode. i am tired of all of these problems and have read many others like these. my main concern is the car dieing while driving down road and locking everything up. *tr
The passlock system, in my 1999 chevy malibu, fails on a regular basis. probably 1 out of 10 starts the passlock system prevents the engine from starting, and i need to wait 10 minutes before i can try it again; often, the 2nd try also requires waiting ten minutes. this is deeply frustrating on its own, but is dangerous when i need my car to start: for example, when it is late at night, or when my surroundings are potentially dangerous, or when i urgently need to get somewhere (hospital in an emergency!). i have read online that this is a problem that afflicts many owners of gm cars with the passlock system installed. this warrants a recall, or at least should require that gm provide alternative ignition mechanisms that do not have passlock systems installed. *tr
1999 malibu wont start ,theft light on. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 1999 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was able to be restarted. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
I have had this 99 malibu for almost a year now and i have actually got to drive it for about 3 months but now it will not crank at all because of the theft system i have had problems with this since i bought the car and now the car is done it will not start at all i am a single mother and i need a dependable care and it sure isn't going to be a chevrolet. *tr
Anti theft system on 1999 chevy malibu happens almost everytime i try to start the car. this disables the fuel from entering the engine and prevents the car from starting. then i have to wait 10 minutes to try to start it again and sometimes it starts and sometimes i have to wait another 10 minutes. yesterday it happened when i stopped at a farmer's market in 95 degree weather. i had to wait almost an hour in the heat with a friend of mine who has a heart condition. after trying to start it every ten minutes for an hour it finally started. i called the dealership and they basically told me there was nothing they could do about it. they could look at it but they don't know how to fix it. i searched online and found that a lot of people have this problem and nothing is being done to fix it. why hasn't gm recalled this product? i even asked them to disable the system and they said it couldn't be done. this is becoming a danger because i am a senior citizens and i never know when i will be stranded somewhere waiting for this to reset. if the dealership knows its a problem and gm knows it's a problem why can't the fix it. *tr
Our vehicle starts and stops running the anti-theft light blinks on and off. it locks into theft mode. after letting the key sit in the "on" position in the ignition for 10minutes the car will stop. the car will drive and shut off with no warning. the abs and battery lights stays on. the car will shift out of gear when the key is out of the ignition. we've had the car towed to a gm dealership twice and they supposedly fixed the problem. they "reprogrammed" it twice almost $400 only to do the same thing over again! only to do our own research and find out online multiple gm owners are having this issue with the vats system/ passkey/passcar theft systems! *tr
Malfunctioning theft system in 1999 chevy malibu, proper key is being used to start the vehicle, however, theft system light will come several times a week, disabling the fuel. the light blinks for 10 minutes before you can attempt to restart the vehicle. *tr
