Problems with 2013 Chevrolet Impala ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

On average, the 2013 Chevrolet Impala starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL and its various aspects after 60 224 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2013 Chevrolet Impala

When i turn my car on the abs light stays on, driving stability light stays on, and the emergency brake light stays on even if i have it disengaged.

Brake and steering system defect. while driving the antilock brake light came on, also the traction control, stabili-trak, and brake assist lights started flashing. the car was being driven in downtown traffic at moderate speed. the vehicle was taken to a local dealership who said that this was not a safety problem (what!!!!) and that it was not covered under the drivetrain but only part of the 30k coverage. they then said it would be at least a week before they could look at the car. (brake and steering issues not a safety problem?) in doing some checking on the internet it appears that this is a serious and ongoing issue with cheverolet and gm vehicles for several years. in addition to the above problem there have been even more serious side effects associated with the brake, stability system. some even reported to your department. it would be good if your department would be proactive and have this issue investigated by someone other than gm. before there are fatalities associated with this issue. perhaps you could spend some time looking at the various forums on the web and see that there seems to be a major problem here. i doubt anything will be done but thank you for allowing me to vent. i am writing this to help my son out since it is his car, and he a) has a full load in college and b) he is a less happy camper than i am. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet impala. while driving 65 mph, the stabilitrac control, service traction control, esc, and engine warning indicators illuminated. the cruise control light turned off and, while depressing the brake pedal, there was a clicking noise coming from the glove compartment. in addition, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

Car makes grinding noise on low speed left turns. engine hesitates when making left hand turn from dead stop . very dangerous .

The abs traction control, brake assist and stability control warning light coming on intermittently while driving & making a left turn a grinding & slippage noise can be notice(very unsafe to drive). had it checked and code reading left front hub, had both hubs replaced and still have problem! looks like many owners have the same problem, should be on a recall!

The abs, traction control, brake assist and stabilitrak warning lights come on intermittently while driving. a grinding noise can be heard coming from the front-left wheel. this usually occurs while accelerating from a dead stop or making left and/or right turns from a dead stop. *tr

The traction and/or suspension causes the car to stall when turning. it is very dangerous because the car does not move and could cause the driver (and passengers) to be in an accident. once the car gets in motion, it moves at an accelerated speed to catch up to what the normal speed would have been. this happens mainly on city streets as a result of turning. there have also been times the car was unable to be in motion when simply stopping at a stop sign and driving forward.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced difficulty accelerating and made abnormal grinding noises during turns. the stabilitrak, abs, and service traction control warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

Service traction control, engine power reduced. message came on at highway speed and cut engine power reducing speed to 25mph nearly causing an accident. throttle body needs to be replaced apparently a common problem over multiple years why was there no recall or at least a notification there could be a problem instead of letting someone's car shut down on the freeway with no warning?

Mostly when turning while in reverse, the traction control light comes on and the car hesitates slightly. there is also a grinding noise. this will happen occasionally going forward. during the summer months this happens several times week. during the cooler months it only happens occasionally. the car will be four years old in 08/2017 and it has less than 28,000 miles on it. this problem started in 06/2016 when the car had approximately 20,000 miles on it. had the brakes looked at and was told they were fine. can't seem to figure out what the problem is or how to fix it.

Car loses power and stabilitrak warning come on while driving no engine power at all .check engine light come on and stays on till i shut off engine and turn back on only then engine light disappears my car only has 37,000 miles and is 3 year old its happen on the highway three time and in the parking lot of my work twice now.

My stabilitrack and abs keeps coming on and off. it does not matter if i am driving on a side stree or on the beltway. beltway driving is dangerous and scary as the car seems like it is brakeing and then speeding up. making turns it does the same and "jumps" when i use the brakes. this is all very dangerous situation and should be looked at asap. i has been happening for 5 months and the service people can not see any issues.

12,000 miles stability control , and abs light came on service required. light stays on 5-10 minutes goes out randomly dealers baffled for the cause, dealer says unless they can duplicate it, warning light to come on they can't service. ,i went for an oil change at midas they checked it said it was the wheel bearing sensor that governs that i replace the wheel bearing , okay for a while now back on again in less than a thousand miles. stability control is very valuable for cars nowadays so this is definitely a safety factor if stability control is lost. reports on the internet of people replacing all the wheel bearings on the front hubs and everything and still having the same problem so this is not an isolated incident. *tr

My 2013 chevy impala is having big issues making left turns. there is a grinding sound and the car hesitates to accelerate. while these problrms occur i am getting warnings on the dash that say service traction control, service brake assist, and the abs light is on. starting to not feel safe to be in this vehicle. also had it checked twice by two different auto shops and they cant seem to find the problem.

While drving at any speed the stability control system activated resulting in reduced power, left side noise from wheel and rumbling in the brake pedal. took it to my local chevy shop and paid over 500 dollars to replace "gyro". couple of weeks later had the same problem. returned to the dealership and was told that my alternator was bad. had it checked out and the alternator has no problems or codes when it was checked. the only codes that shows point to the stability control system!!!. fustrated with chevy do to lack of concern. considering the lemon law as a means of fixing the problem. this is my last chevy product!!!!!!

Often when i accelerate my 2013 chevy impala especially when turning, the car will make a grinding noise and the vehicle will hesitate to accelerate and errors appear for stability track and abs. this occurs on both paved and sand roads and in any road condition. i took it in to my dealer and they replaced a censor (for about $300 bucks when it was all said and done.) which fixed the problem for about a week, now it's back and in many traffic situations, very dangerous. it stared at about 30k miles.

I was pulling out on highway 59,car made a grinding noise as i turned left, traction stabilitrac and abs flashed, changed the wheel bearing and harness, stabilitrak still coming on noise is still there...car will lock up on you in traffic.i have custody of my grandkids and now have no way to take them to school...because my car with 43,300 miles on it is unsafe

For the past 2 months my car is having major trouble. it started with me hearing a grinding noise when i made left turns. this has now developed to making a noise when i make left turns to making it when i am backing out, and occasionally stalling when pulling off from a red light. this has put me in some dangerous situations. about a month ago 2 light and 2 messages came up on my dash. they were service stabilitrak and service brake assist. my brake light and my traction light are also on. i took my car into the dealership and they said my hub needed to be replaced. i had the part replaced and i am still having the same problem. noone seems to know what the issue is.

I have a 2013 impala, the traction control kicks in when making left turns from a stop. this is my third impala; 2003, 2009 and this 2013. all three with the same issue so this is my last impala. hey gm, get your act together!

When accelerating from a stop while turning left, abs engages and brakes left front wheel creating a very dangerous situation stopping the car in intersections without warning. service stabilitrak, service abs and service brake assist messages also appear on dashboard message center. all warning lights reset when vehicle is turned off, until a left turn is made while accelerating again, and the above issues occur again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet impala. shortly after the vehicle was repaired for a recall with the ignition switch, the stability, traction control, abs, and other warning lights randomly flashed. the failure progressed each time the vehicle was reversing and when making left and right turns. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 69,000.

When making a sharp left or right turn the one wheel would make a popping or grinding noise. had 37000 m7les on car. took it to dealer 3 times before the instrument panel indicated traction control problem. they replacd both speed control harnesses. cost $750. tech stated i may get money back should there be a recall. to this date no recall.

Traction control activates while making left turn when leaving a stop or a red light or at any other occasion that requires making a left turn after being stopped. causing the vehicle to hesitate and in the process creating a very dangerous situation. this has occurred on five different occasions during the past few days. has only occurred when turning left from a complete stop. there seems to be a metal sound the fourth time. have tried to get it looked at and no one seems to know what to do. very concerned about the safety of driving this car. also done it once when i was backing out from a parked position.

Stability control needs service. estimated repair 251 miles after warranty expired was $270.00, and became $335.00. certified letter sent to gm on nov 14 receipt acknowledged by rep shanay, and verbally acknowledged by same two days later when she called me. waited six weeks more for written response & called today requesting same again to follow up with nhtsa. refused and offered to send an e:mail but i prefer not to provide address due to her unfriendly manner. part failure 251 miles is one for the record books. failure occurred while moving.

When accelerating from a stop while turning left, abs engages and brakes left front wheel grinds which causes the car to stop and drag. service stabilitrak, service abs and service brake assist messages also appear on dashboard message center. all warning lights reset when vehicle is turned off, until a left turn is made while accelerating again, and the above issues occur again.

I have only had this car for 3 months and everything was fine until i made a left hand u-turn and all kinds of bells went off- service stabilitrak-service brake assist- service traction control-i called the dealership and just to put it on the machine to see what's wrong is $126.00 - quite frankly i don't have that kind of money to spare- i am extremely frustrated and according to research i have done this is a common issue that chevrolet is not acknowledging-

After backing out of a parking spot, making a left hand turn and pulling away, the brakes apply on their own, the traction control light flashes on, and a grinding noise is heard. the weather at the time was clear and sunny, and the surface of the parking lot was dry asphalt.

I just purchased my vehicle 3 months ago and about 2 weeks ago, i've been having issues with traction control, abs and service stabilitrak. it seems i get this problem when i just start my car and try to turn the wheel right, at low speeds it feels like it's grinding. this problem has happened a few times since then (not consistent) and every time it grinds i get a traction control light pop up. this problem is happening when there is no rain or snow on the road. i have done some research and it seems a lot of people are having the same issue with chevrolet impala's. i believe this should be recalled it is very dangerous!

Upon turning left at an intersection, the vehical hesitates and makes a grinding noise in the front end. this has at times, come to a near accident of being rear ended.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet impala. while making a right turn, the vehicle hesitated. in addition, the abs, traction control, and service stabilitrak warning lights illuminated. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000. updated 05/24/16*lj the consumer stated on may 2, 2016 as she was making a right turn, the accelerator seemed to jerk back and the rpm's went up past three,t hen went back down to one. all the instrument panel lights illuminated and then the vehicle hesitated to proceed for a few minutes. updated 08/03/16.*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while making a left turn from a stop, the service stabilitrak system and the abs warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that an unknown sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 59,000. the vin was unavailable.

Grinding noise from front and abs engages the brakes and low traction light flashes on when accelerating from a stop and turning left at the same time, does not matter if you accelerate slow or fast and this is happening on dry pavement. if i turn off the traction control it will not do it, so i assume the problem must exist in a speed sensor or something with the traction control sensors or wiring. of course mechanics cannot duplicate this. waiting for gm to step up to the plate and fix.

I started having problems with my vehicle back in may of this year after i received a warning message about the stabilitrak, abs, and traction control. i was hearing and feeling a scraping noise especially when i turned left. i took my car to the dealership and they replaced the speed sensor and harness. i thought that would take care of it. at the end of june i took my car back again for the same problem. of course the service tech could not duplicate the sound. here we are less than 2 months later and i have taken the car back to the dealership once again this morning. i don't expect anything to be found because apparently this problem never comes up at the dealership and the techs can never duplicate it. our tech told us this morning that if they can't find anything again this time, then i will most likely have to drive the car with the tech to see if i can duplicate it. i'm hoping this can finally be taken care of but because my car is still under warranty, i doubt anything will come of it. once my warranty runs out i'm thinking the tech will be able to duplicate it and charge me a lot of $$ to fix it.

First my service abs traction control lights came on and while making left turns a loud metal grinding noise happened and my traction control light flashed. i took it to my local mechanic he replaced the bearing and sensors which helped with the service lights but the grinding still happened. the noise and traction control light still continued while turning just not as much as before. the mechanic replaced the part twice!! took it to my mechanic again because of the grinding and traction control flashing he drove it around and he could not make the noise happen so he could not fix or replace anything. it feels like the abs is braking on its own for no reason while i drive my 2013 impala ltz. my mechanics can not find the problem and it seems neither can any impala owner or mechanic. but i'm 99% sure when i drive it tonight to visit friends i will hear a metal on metal grinding noise i just hope not while im on the freeway where i can get killed. it happens while driving coming from a stop or as simple as me backing out of my driveway. *tr

2013 chevy impala with approximately 38860 miles. 3.31.2015 developed a grinding noise in the front end when turning sharp left, causes the car to hesitate, making it a very dangerous. occurred a few times before the dealership opened. i took it into bowman chevy in clarkston they drove it & it didn't occur for them and they sent me on my way. it continued to happen, & with great concern for my safety i took it to a different dealership, joe lunghamer chevrolet in waterford. they did keep my car all day & gave me a invoice that states: npf operating to manufacturing specifications and multi-point inspection was done. they gave my car back & said they found nothing wrong. sad to say general motors may be putting my life in danger, as they did many other people before recalling for the ignition control. at this time my car is close to 3000 miles over the bumper to bumper warranty, i believe they'd try harder if it was under 36000 miles. both dealerships said the car would have to do the same thing for them to diagnose. bowman chevy said the fees would start at $100 to diagnose, and go up & made it clear it could take up to a week or more to diagnose & to wait until it does it on a regular basis. i don't feel safe it's not even 3 years old and i'm still paying on. there are others complaints on this site the same as mine, along with different sites and impala forums that have the same complaints. my car continues to do this a couple of times a day but not enough for the service department at the dealership to experience. i want this filed so others know, my car is not safe.who has to die to have this checked out and recalled? again, 2013 impala - grinding noise when making sharp left and hesitates causing dangerous situation. please forward this to [xxx] if you are able. thank you for your help. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Traction control intermidely comes on affecting take off speed and steering resulting in abs system coming on. happens mainly when starting out form a stop. cannot accelerate from a complete stop or make consistent turns.

When starting to move forward from a stopped position and turning the steering wheel at the same time, the abs sensor kicks in and the car makes the abs sound, the abs lights up on the dashand then it releases and you can drive normal. it has occurred many times now between 1 to 5 miles per hour. i do not see any recalls at this time for this problem.

Bought my 2013 chevy impala used with a little over 40 thousand miles, and within a week the abs light and traction control light come on when making a left hand turn from a complete stop/stationary position. does it now daily on a regular basis and also makes a grinding noise when accelerating from a complete stop making left hand turns. also causes the car to stall until i release the gas and has been extremely dangerous when trying to make left turns with traffic coming the opposite direction. it has also made the grinding noise and the dash lights up when backing out of the driveway.i have taken it to the dealership and it was kept for a day but they said they could not duplicate the problem. seems to be what i keep reading from everyone else's complaint so either were all crazy or chevy doesn't want to deal with it until someone dies from this issue. i have to drive this car daily and i do not feel safe to drive it.this issue has always been caused when driving on residential and city streets never on the highway so far thank god. have only had problems when having to turn onto the highway on ramp but does not do it on the actual highway. as of now this problem is unknown to me and "apparently" to gm as well.

My stability and traction control is defective cause the car to go in traction mode while driving. i purchased the car in july and have been having this problem every since back and forth to the dealership. read several reports with this particular problem with this car. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 mph, the stability control warning light illuminated intermittently. in addition, the steering wheel vibrated causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. on another occasion, the vehicle could not be shifted out of gear and the service brake warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 7,500.

When steering wheel is turned left and now right the front end grinds at times but not all the time. however, it seems to be getting gradually worse, grinding more often. the "service stabilitrac system" comes across the dash panel and now it is stating "service brake assist". all the while nothing seems to be wrong with anything up front. this happens upon acceleration. this can happen in city streets, parking lots and freeways. i happens anywhere upon acceleration. there is no point at which the grinding is taking place can be seen. this seems to be a problem that chevrolet has with all the models of this particular vehicle yet they are denying anything is wrong with the vehicles.

Electric stability control grinding noise from front and abs engages the brakes and low traction light flashes on when leaving a stop or a red light or at any other occasion that requires making a left turn after being stopped. causing the vehicle to hesitate.

Traction control activates while making left turns when leaving a stop or a red light sign or at any occasion that requires making a left turn after being stopped. causing the vehicle to hesitate and in the process creating a very dangerous situation. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while making a turn at 15 mph, the stabilitrak, abs, and the traction control illuminated intermittently. in addition, the contact stated that the steering wheel jerked to the left. the failure occurred on two occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 6,600.

When turning the wheel to the left at low speeds (like when backing out of my driveway) the abs light comes on; the front left wheel makes a grinding noise in conjunction with the light blinking; there is an immediate loss of power, like the car is being held back by something. same happens when turning, on a hill coming from a complete stop but this is random and not easily re-created. i've also noticed a wobble in the steering when taking bends on the highway at high speeds. it seems to have gotten worse since i took it in for service a few days ago. i've resorted to turning the traction control off before putting the car in drive and this seems to ameliorate the problem. took the vehicle in for service and demonstrated the problem to them and they agreed that it was obviously not performing as it should. they had a mechanic look at it and determine that there was nothing structurally wrong with any of the components that he could tell and that there were "no codes being thrown" - whatever that means. so they told me there is nothing they can do for me, it cannot be "fixed" because, according to gm there is nothing wrong with my car even though it is a demonstrable equipment failure. i should not have to turn off the traction control -a safety feature!- on my car to drive it without loosing power at the worst times. my car is a 2013 chevy impala ls with almost 15,500 miles on it. *tr

When driving normally system panel will light up with service brake assist, service traction control, service stabilitrak. while turning traction control will automatically turn itself on and grind the wheels making turning difficult. when braking the brakes will not engage right away and abs light will come on. *tr

I just purchased my 2013 chevrolet impala ltz in the last 30 days. have driven less than 1500 miles. while highway driving, i received a service stabilitrak and a slight noise occurred while driving. gm customer care was closed at that time, however next morning the service warning was off...but i still followed up with gm. the customer care representative said most likely if the service warning went off - it was just a glitch. however, i was also able to confirm at that time that because i have the bumper to bumper warranty, it is a covered issue and i could still take it in to be looked at and any authorized gm dealer. now just to figure out where... *tt
