Problems with 2011 Chevrolet Impala ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

On average, the 2011 Chevrolet Impala starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL and its various aspects after 79 245 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2011 Chevrolet Impala

I was driving on i70 going 70 mph and out of nowhere my engine light comes on and 3 messages start appearing on the dash. 1) service stabiltrac, 2) service traction control, 3( engine power reducing. my car a 2011 chevy impala slows down to about 50. i get it going back to 60 but not very easily. i keep going and merge onto 465 (indianapolis indiana area). i come into slower traffic where i need to stop. i apply my breaks and the pedal will not engage. almost hit a car. also when i slowed down the car started shaking bad. i continue a little farther in slow traffic and had to stop again, same thing with the breaks. so i pulled over and shut off my car on the side of i465. my daughter had looked up the error messages on the internet and there seem to be a lot on there with the same problem. they all said the same thing, after shutting the car off and restarting it it was fine. i made it home and everything seemed fine for a couple of weeks and it happened a few more times so far. once at a stop sign and the same day as i was backing out of parking space at work. once again that same week i was driving in town and took off from a red light and it happened again. from a complete stop the car started shaking and the error messages and engine light come on and it would not accelerate. i would have thought nothing about it except to get it fixed, but after reading so much on the internet about the same problem there has to be an issue and needs to be recalled. gm needs to own up to this problem before people get injured or worse die from this issue. *tr

The check engine light came on (and had gone out) previously. dash said "service stabilitrac, engine power reduced" and a mechanic said it was a "sensor in the gas pedal" and that if it kept happening we should replace it. i didn't fully realize that this meant that the throttle would disable itself while i was driving in morning rush hour traffic on the highway in the left hand lane going up a hill doing 60 mph. there was traffic behind me and in other lane so i had to pull into the center shoulder overtop of 5 inches of snow and ice. it was a struggle not to hit the guardrail. there was barely enough room. i just made it over the yellow line. it was 20 degrees and then had to wait an hour for a tow truck. the car did start and drive at the garage. this mechanic replaced the acceleration pedal assembly. the error was code p2122. he also stated that he could smell burning wires. i had smelled it but didn't realize what it was. *tr

I was driving down the interstate with the cruise control on when suddenly my car jerked and a message showing "engine power reduced, service stabilitrak" showed up. i noticed the rpms jerking up and down with a pretty dramatic range. when i slowed down my car started shaking. the worst part is that when i shut my car off the problem stops. this has happened 4 other times. once while idling. once while slowing down from 55 to 35 and once while driving about 35 mph. there seems to be no pattern and it is intermittent. *tr

I started my car after a cold night and immediately got a "service stabilitrak", "engine power reduced", and "service trance ion control" messages. the car had an extremely rough idle and then would not accelerate to more than 25 mph. i returned home and made an appointment at the dealership. later, i was ready to take the car into the dealer and it started fine with no error messages or check engine light. i called the dealer and they said it must have been a computer error that fixed itself. well, it's a week later now and i am having the issues again except restarting the engine does not fix it anymore. this is a serious issue and needs to be resolved by gm and not cost the many people experiencing this issue hundreds of dollars to fix! *tr

While driving down the road service traction control reduce engine power and stability control light came on. car engine lost power and i thought it was going to blow up it made the whole car shake. you shut it off for a few and restart it and its like nothing ever happened. not to happy about this i have not had the car a year. guess a person needs to die from this matter before there is a recall on this what a joke. and the worst is chevy will not cover any of this even if the car is under a warranty. *tr

Dec 2013 vehicle hit pot hole while braking at approaching intersection, after that warning lights started flashing abs brakes/tract control/stab control, i was unable to brake, then shut down. since then temp gauge went bad n was replaced. the 3 above dash warning lights continued intermittently, worse when it rained. at take offs n turns car would jar n abs brake system would pulsate(grabs). hub/speed sensor was replaced, this did not help. accessory outlets, when contained w a charger, doesn't maintain contact w power source (such as disconnection/loose connection), causing power surge resulting in 2 iphones to have bad aux ports. may 2014 blower motor started intermittently not working for seconds, then minutes until today sept 6th, 2014 when something under-dash (near blower motor) overheated filling car with smoke, then car shut down while moving once again, car smells awful from the burning! car has been a lemon and not covered under power train! seems like auxiliary elect fuse box(passenger rt foot board), and harness is shot as well as whichever harness is sending power to speed sensor, among many other things i could not mention (problems/defects) due to so many other issues w this 2011 impala which is now worth 7000 as trade at chevy, i paid 13500 on oct14, 2014! i've checked several ground connects n they seem okay. *tr

This is the second time this has happened. less than a year ago, we received a service stabilitrac/service traction control/engine at reduced power message and speed dropped from 40 mph to 5 mph. we brought it to the chevrolet dealer and a traction position control sensor was replaced. today, on 11/24/13, we were driving 15 mph in a parking lot and received the same message resulting in the same problem. this is a safety issue due to the fact that the vehicle essentially stalls out with little to no power and nearly caused a collision at an intersection. when will nhtsa force gm to recall and fix this issue? this is extremely dangerous. *tr

Traveling at highway speed, the dashboard lights came on and the vehicle began to lose speed. stepping on the accelerator pedal had no effect and i moved to the right lane, i had been passing another vehicle at the time. i drove the car at the speed which it permitted with my four-way blinkers on until i arrived home. it was at night and there was no where else to go. the next day, the problem was not evident, but i took it to the dealer from whom i had purchased it, used. that dealer was unable to ascertain the problem, and took the car to a local chevrolet franchise where it was "repaired" and returned. several days later, the same problem occurred when i was entering a highway i could not accelerate into traffic. this time, as it happened during the day, i again took it to my dealer. it was suggested that i deal directly with the local chevrolet dealer to whom he had taken the car the first time. that dealer had it for several days. the dealership contacted the factory directly for instructions to fix the problem, . to date, there has been no re-occurrence of this, nor any other problem. the first visit for repair cost about $200 and the second $500. i contacted general motors directly and they agreed to refund $250 earlier this year. *tr

I was merging on to the highway at approximately 35-40 mph when the bells and alarms went off and the engine reduced power. error on hud said service stabilitrak reduced engine power service traction control. *tr

On my way to work: on highway all lights came on service traction control, service stabilitrak and engine power is reduced, and my check engine light came on as well. *tr

Suspension problem

We own both a 2011 and a 2013 chevy impala. both vehicles grind and hesitate. they both act this way while taking off from a light, backing out of the driveway and then putting it in drive and any other time it feels necessary to do so. except while being checked by the mechanic. we owned a 2007 impala that did the same thing. our remedy, push the traction control button to the "off" position. stopped making the noise and no longer hesitates after putting it in drive. of course, we have to do this each and every time we get in the car. no more buying chevy's for us.

My wife and i were returning home on i-81 traveling northbound. a warning bell sounded and she noticed the tcs(traction control system) warning light came on and a warning notice to have the stabiltrac serviced, engine power reduced warning as well. we drove the rest of the way home at a reduced speed and parked it. my wife went out today and started the car and the only indication we had was the tcs light was on. no other warnings appeared. this is something gm really needs to address since i have read about many such complaints. a recall is needed gm. this is a manufacturing problem and you should cover the costs not us consumers!! *js

My daughter was driving 45 mph in the rain, the car lighted up and read the stabilitrak was having a problem and reduced power...car slowed suddenly. she was driving at night. she pulled over, shut off the car, restarted it. this last week, this is now a multiple time per day occurrence. last summer after the first incident, she took the car to the chevy dealer in waterville, who hooked it up to the computer which did not show any code. he told her to continue driving it and it probably got wet. she took it again today to another garage in waterville, who hooked it up to the computer, and it did not say anything was wrong. she is experiencing loss of power to the car multiple times a day with multiple warnings about the stabilitrak. this is a dangerous situation. *tr

While driving at 60 mph, messages were flashing: service stabilitrac soon, reduced power to engine, check traction control. car decelerated to 30 mph on the highway, hard to steer. i pulled off the road, turned it off and waited. several minutes later it restarted and i was able to drive it home. the engine light and the traction control light still come on. it shifts hard (and it's an automatic transmission). in addition, cruise control will not work during this condition. *tr

While leaving from work i made a left turn onto a busy highway and my service traction control light, reduce engine power, and check engine light came on. pulled over and car was wanting to turn off. turned off car and service traction control light goes off but check engine stays on. came home googled what could be the cause and see that many impalas owners are having the same trouble...i see a lawsuit happening if gm does not recall this! *tr

For several weeks, the indicator on my vehicle will alert me "service traction control; reducing engine power". at first i thought this was just a glitch, until it kept happening over and over and over again. there are days when the indicator will go off and remain off for a week or two, but then it will all of a sudden come back on and remain on for a week or so. i get my vehicle serviced regularly. i have contacted gm dealership after dealership, and they have all told me there is nothing they can do. finally, i asked for the corporate office number [xxx]. i called gm's corporate office (reference#: [xxx]) and was told that my powertrain warranty is still good but my bumpertobumper warranty has expired due to the mileage. i advised the representative ([xxx]) that i had googled this information to find out what was going on and this appears to be a known issue with chevy implala's, and i asked why hasn't gm put out a recall on this issue. she then tells me that i need to pay and get a diagnostic check to determine the actual issue. my question to her is "why should i or any customer have to pay for something that is a reported known issue?" there representative continued to apologize and tell me there was nothing that gm could do because this was not a known issue. i referenced there representative to research for herself [xxx] and she continued to tell me there was nothing they could do. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Driving 30 mph in a small town. a "binging" noise sounds 3 times and the traction control warning light as well as the check engine light came on. vehicle messaging system stated that to "service stabilitrak," "service traction control," and "engine power reduced. the acceleration was noticeably reduced as well as a significant difference in maintaining speed. merging onto a highway the cruise control would not kick in when setting speed which made it difficult to manage a 65 mph speed limit. *tr

The check stabililink / reduced engine power light came on at start. after shutting the vehicle down and restarting the light went off. i was traveling on the highway when the reduced engine power light came on. i pulled over, restarted the car and it was fine. after stopping and restarting several more times, the engine light remains on and the check. the stabilizing warning continues. the car is completely unreliable at this time. since this occurred over easter, there are no mechanics available, leaving me with no car and cancelled appointments and lost wages to start the week. *tr

The service stabilitrak light comes on and engine power is reduced. it happened this morning while taking my kids to school...very scary thing when kids are in the car because it just starts losing power & you really cannot drive it like this.. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet impala. the contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the check engine and stability control warning lights illuminated. also, the vehicle's speed reduced independently as the engine reduced power light illuminated. the contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v355000 (electrical system). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 33,000.

I was driving down the highway on the homestretch of a roadtrip from pa to fl when the "service stabilitrak" , followed by "engine power reduced" message started flashing. the two lights on the dashboard also went off. since i was in the middle of the highway, i was unable to find a good place to address the issue, and i figured like most times the "check engine" light goes on, that it was something that i could wait to deal with when i got home. i continued driving for about 15 minutes and then the message changed and said "disabling throttle" or something to that effect, and i felt the engine losing power. i was in the middle lane, doing around 55 miles per hour with cars all around me. i immediately put on my four-way flashers and fortunately people in the right lane slowed down and let me coast to the shoulder but it could have been disastrous. i sat there for a few minutes trying to figure out what to do. finally after a few minutes i decided to try starting the car again and it started, with just the check engine light on and i was able to continue on my way. since then it has continued to occur intermittently. i took it to the dealer, but they told me it was a sensor in the gas pedal but that it was not under warranty. *tr

My 2011 impala is reading "service throttle. reduce engine power" and then proceeds to shut down. even after replacing accelerator pedal position sensor, vehicle is still reading same errors. this is very dangerous because there is no limitations to when the vehicle shuts off. after extensive research, a lot of people are having the exact same issue and chevrolet hasn't attempted to do anything about it. please help! *tr

This has happened too many times, and i have taking it to the dealer 3 times. stabilitrak reduce engine power comes on. one time throttle disarmed came on and my car cut off on the freeway and all i could do was coast off the ramp. this is happening so often and i am tired of it. please help me. *tr

While driving on city beltway, i was changing lanes at 50 -55mph when my car experience shudder and the messages that came on screen was engine reducing power, check stability control, check traction control lights flash and what appeared to be rough idling. the next incident happen off and on for several days. the last known was 1/3/2013 630am and 115pm i would have to sshut down and restart until the message disappears. the thing that really shook me up was when i was merging onto the highway in the morning around 6:45am there was a semi and other vehicles behind me so i attempted to merge at about 30-50 when the messages appeared and the semi was practically on my tail. my heart jumped out my chest but i remained calmed and luckily there was a median strip ahead. i ask myself situation could have gone wrong and caused a major accident or gotten killed from being rammed from behind all because i could'nt accelerate.i have a small video to back this up. i took it to the dealer and they said that there was no recall notice and that they would need to get the code and charge me 129.00 for diagnostic. this is clearly a safety issue and who knows how many was killed behind this. *tr

This has happened multiple times to my 2011 impala. i will be driving normally, anywhere from 45 to up to 65 mph, and i will get a warning saying "service stabiltrack, service traction control, engine power reduced". usually i can shut the car off and wait 5 minutes, and the messages will clear, but the check engine light will remain illuminated for the next couple of days, eventually clearing. there needs to be a recall for whatever is causing this, because there are a lot of folks with impalas having this same exact problem. we as the consumer, should not have to pay money out of our pocket, for a problem that chevrolet caused during the manufacture of this car. *tr

My wife was driving on the highway and out of the blue the stability control and reduce engine power light came on the message display. there were no weather conditions at the time. this has happened 6 times total. one time it happened as she was warming up the car. all of a sudden it started shaking and she felt as if it was about to take off into space. she turned it off three times - even tried to drive it and move to another parking place and turned if off again before it finally stopped shaking. *tr

On 5/11/12, the "service stabilitrak" light came on; then a notice that the engine power was reduced came on. i called the dealer for service and he said i could bring it in on 5/14. i asked if it was dangerous to drive in the meantime and he said no. i was driving on 5/12 and was stopped in traffic waiting to turn left. i went to turn left and experienced a greatly reduced response from the gas pedal which was frightening. the dealer just called me on 5/14 and said the problem was in the accelerator pedal and he is replacing it. i found a number of complaints online of this same issue going back to the 2007 model. i think this should prompt a safety recall, since a non-responsive accelerator pedal is a safety issue. *js

I purchased a 2011 chevrolet impala a year and half ago from victory chevrolet in mount holly< n.c. after the first week of owning the car which had only 27000 miles on it the stabiltrak light came on, since then it has happened four times including today, two of these times i came close to having a wreck. i found on the web that this is happening to the impalas. i wrote gm to ask if someone would have to be killed to recall these and be fixed. if you look at this you will see they did recall the police cars but not the personal vehicles. i don't know if you can help but i will contact all the news media till someone will listen. again i have to take my car in for repairs for the same reason. thank you! if canada is suing gm for this reason then why is something don't done here? *tr
