We have classified the 79 complaints from 2011 Chevrolet Impala about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The rear defogger on my vehicle stopped working. investigation lead to a video on the internet showing a melted connector on the passenger side fuse box. following the steps in the video i found the exact same burned up connector under the carpet of my vehicle. photos included. the connector was clearly not designed to handle the current the fuse was allowing to flow through. this is a fire risk as well as an inconvenience as now my rear defogger is inoperative. i never smelled the burning part but lost clearing ability about three weeks ago when driving in cold weather.
While driving on a city street, the door locks cycled several times, the radio went off and on, the engine seemed to stall as if a bad relay or faulty ground strap. weather was clear and dry.
On 1/29/16 my car died and towed to dealer where i was told i need a transmission. the car only had 69000 6months ago dash board lights lit traction control, reduced engine power service stabilitrack abs.when i would step on the accelaretor pedal it would make a winding noise go to the floor and pop back up again. as i was driving down the highway all of a sudden i had no acceleration car had died. l pulled to the side of the road a few minutes later started up again this happened numerous times i told my son he couldn't drive the car because i felt it was unsafe. i called the gm they gave me a coupon to have the a diagnostic check on it. in sept i went to the dealer and he scanned my car for codes i was told i needed a right front hub part number 13582664, a right wheel speed sensor harness, 10340314, accelerator pedal, 84018392, and a vent valve 2085252. i can't believe a car dealers would let a person leave not informing the customer what a safety issue this is. i drove the car for a day because i couldn't afford to fix it and was trying to come up with the money again the car died on me as i went to accelerate now the car is sitting in my yard dead as a doornail. i called the dealer and explain the situation to the dealer at lannan chevrolet in woburn and i spoke with the owner and the only response i got was what do you want there's a hundred thousand miles on the car i have been doing lots of research on this particular vehicle and i'm appalled between a 2008 and a 2011 there has been hundreds of complaints about the same issue.these are safety issues where people can get killed. out of all these safety issues there's not one investigation that has been opened in regards to the issues. nhtsa or gm needs to open an investigation immediately on these cars. there is a major safety issue and a recall is necessary.vin number..(xxxxx) redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Recall n140299, i have been having problems with no starts, stuck ignition keys, i received notice of recall, took vehicle to hessert chevy at 6301 e roosevelt blvd. phila. pa 19149, they played with the keys, said my car was done. put key in ignition no start tried again it started. dealer wanted 149.00 to look further. help
Driving at about 70mph my check engine light came with with the reading service stability track, engine reduced power an disabled started, service throttle instantly i loss all rmps an my steering wheel almost fully locked while the car was still on motion. luckily i was able to jus barley veer off the road into safety. why would a car company have something like this in thier vehicles. that would lock the steering wheel while going at accelerated speeds
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet impala. while making a turn, the vehicle completely lost power. also, the stabilizer track and engine service indicators illuminated. the vehicle coasted as it regained some power, but the contact pulled over to the side of the road. the vehicle was able to slowly be driven to its destination. the dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 124,000.
Upon starting stabilitrak needs service. redused engine power and check engine light all came on and car ran rough. reatart and car runs but check engine light satys on.
This vehicle is under active recall. i have sold (traded-in,) the vehicle to a licensed car dealer. i informed the buyer verbally of the safety issue, but i wish to be certain gm is aware of the sale. unfortunately, the gm website recall section has no way for me to register the sale, and therefore there may be a risk to the eventual buyer of the car, should the seller fail to mention to the buyer/end-user that there is an active recall. gm is derelict in not having a way for recalled vehicle sellers to simply register the sale with the new owner's information. the gm recall site also does not accept any emails or any other online contact. calling gm via telephone results in transfers, delays, and recordings.
Anytime i go to accelerate after coming to a complete stop at a stop sign, red light, or etc the car hesitates and then jerks forward. the car hesitates and loses power. while driving down a busy city road the car turned off. i had to try and steer the vehicle to the side of the road. the steering wheel would barely turn.
Wife and daughter were driving in car when all of a sudden warning lights came on and the vehicle lost all power in the middle of traffic.no brakes, brakes or steering, thanks god there was no accident
Why is there not a recall on stability traction control? i see thousands of complaints on the internet for gm vehicles. it seems to me that gm just doesn't care enough after the sale. i just bought 2011 impala and now the stabalitrack service light keeps coming on while going down the road. it will do this for no apparent reason but happens mostly when accelerating. using the cruise control on level road and dash warning light comes on and throws car out of cruise, decelerating while gages flip around all over the place. power loss and lack of acceleration are definitely safety issues. pulling out of my driveway onto michigan highway and i get halfway across highway and car stops. this highway is 55 mpg and while i would have had plenty of time to cross the lane, car looses all power. looking on the internet gives no help for a fix. i turned the stability traction control off, but the problem does not go away. i see on the internet that many people have taken there vehicle to the dealer garage only to get charged exorbitant prices for "possible" that do not seem to help. gm should get this figured out and not let every dealer garage do their own guessing on what will fix this very dangerous problem that is not limited to single model or year but spans many years with many models. my first vehicle was a gm but this may be my last gm. i would like to give a date below but this has been happening since i bought the vehicle about a month ago and getting steadily worse. i have had it checked out but nobody can give me any useful answers
Constant clicking from behind dashboard the blender something having to do with air/heat runs all the time even when car is not being used. it kills my battery life and since this is a malfunction from chevy i shouldn't be burdened with constantly replacing batteries. its loud and lasts from 30 seconds to 3 minutes.
Service stability trac and reduced engine power lights came on. car started jerking and making noises when starting car.
Wire supplying power to rear window defroster was found burnt at harness connector located on passenger side of vehicle near lower fuse panel.
Elay switch on driver side for air conditioner clicks for several minutes and blows hot air. the passenger side currently blows cold but now the clicking has been happening there also. this is obviously a common defect in chevrolet impalas that should be taken care of. this happens everywhere all the time moving and parked
Traveling a state highway at the legal speed of 70 mph, had to break very hard. as the car slowed down the engine shut off and power steering failed.
On my way to work, i was making a next turn at a light when my car all of a sudden shut off and then turned back on twice in a matter of 15 seconds. this is very dangerous, if it wasn't for the very attentive drivers, i could've been rammed!!! the second incident was after i got off of work. my car was in a parking garage when this happened. i tried starting my car and it wouldn't start. i tried a second time and it started but the engine was revving really hard, like i was about to speed off or something. i turned the car off again and started it again for the third time and "service stabilitrak, service traction control, and reduced engine power" all come up on the service screen. after reading multiple forums online with hundreds of complaints about this. i was scared to drive home. i drove at about 40 mph all the way home (my job is a 25-30 min commute) and fortunately i didn't get stranded and my car didn't turn off in the middle of driving like some folk have experienced. gm needs to address this problem. why isnt there a recall yet?!
While driving the traction control, stabilizer, engine power warning all come on and the check engine light comes on and sometimes the engine turns off. pull off road, will not start then minutes later it starts. check engine light stays on. after multiple starts the check engine light goes out . i have read multiple complaints about this ,yet the nothing is being done. to repair this problem. the effects of this is the same as the ignition turning off. pending on traffic. this could be deadly. this has happened alot.
I begin noticing issues when taking off from a complete stop where the vehicle would lunge forward like it couldn't shift into first gear. i had that checked and nothing showed as an issue, so the mechanic said it had to be electrical. this weekend i am driving it and after 25 minutes in the car the check engine light comes on, as does the notice that my engine power has been reduced, and to service the stability traction control system. i was coming to a stop light when it came on and i pulled off to turn off the car and restart it as that would work when it failed before to reset the system. it didn't reset and i had to drive it with reduced power the rest of the way to my destination. i had this fixed a couple years ago. i did get a notice from gm about the issue and the ability to be reimbursed or getting it fixed if there was a current issue and i was able to get reimbursed for it. now it is happening again, but my mileage is too high to get it fixed under this repair notice because the letter says that the mileage coverage is only up to 120,000. if this is a known issue and i have already dealt with it before, why should i have to pay for it to continually fail when it has nothing to do with normal wear and tear, which i would have no issue fixing as a part of maintaining the vehicle?! this should be something that gm would fix every time it goes out because it is clear the issue is a malfunction of the overall system and not linked to anything that the driver does or doesn't do to maintain the vehicle properly. in addition what if it has to be replaced multiple times as is the case with mine. i have always been a devoted gm customer, but honestly i am not sure i will ever buy another gm after this issue. it is unsafe and provides anxiety when driving, because it might fail at the worst time and could need fixed again even if i fix it this time.
Rear defroster not working. discovered burned-up connector in a plug under passenger footwell fuse box. internet research indicates this is a common problem affecting impalas and other models over several years. this would therefore appear to be a design defect. outcomes include reduced visibility due to inability to defrost/demist rear window and fire hazard due to overheated connector
I turn on the vehicle and then it shut off...like the ignition switch is faulty...then the stabilitrak comes on..i have to turn the key over slowly so it won't hesitate to turn on or shirt off

The gm recall to repair faulty ignition switches is a sham. the problem was announced last winter; in august 2014 i received a letter telling me about the recall and that i would receive a further letter when the parts to repair the problem became available. friday, october 17, 2014, i received a letter from gm's chevrolet division, which they dated "september 2014" informing me that my "2011 model year chevrolet impala was involved in gm recall 14299. this letter is to inform you that parts are now available to repair your vehicle." a call this morning, monday, october 20, 2014, to my chevrolet dealer, johnson motors, brighton, colorado, that services my vehicle informed me that they did not have the parts, and did not know when they would be available. "i should keep calling back." i asked if could be put on a list to call when the part(s) became available, and was told a blunt "no." they do not keep a list of customers to call. a call to gm's customer service informed me that the 'parts' consisted of a device, likely plastic, maybe metal, that fits on the ignition key itself, doing nothing for the defective ignition switch, which is the major problem to begin with. i was further told that there was no way to be informed when the part(s) would be available. at that point i lost my temper. this is a patently absurd response on the part of gm to a serious ignition switch problem that has caused at least 25 deaths so far and untold numbers of non-fatal accidents. their "fix" has nothing to do with the ignition switch, but instead a sham piece of plastic will be added to the owner's key, if she/he is persistent enough to find one available. you, the nhtsa, should be levying heavy fines against gm for every day this sham response of theirs is perpetrated. i will be copying this to both my u.s. senators and to my congressman. *tr

I was going down interstate 86 at 65 miles an hour when ignition just shut off, had my 4 year old granddaughter in car. i notified my dealer who then told me to contact elm chevrolet in elmira. i did talked to "[xxx]" who notified me that parts were not available yet. i then called the 800 number and was treated the most rudely i have ever been treated. i have only been using the key alone. then today i was pulling out of wal-mart parking lot into traffic, when the same thing happened. 'the rep on the 800 number told me "don't use the key" to which i responded that i didn't know how to hot wire a car. this car is dangerous, not only will i have to drive 20 miles on a highway to have it fixed, but do not know when it can be fixed. i plan on leaving ny for florida in 3 weeks for the winter and am scared to death to drive this car. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
