I was driving down the street and suddenly i heard a popping sound and i noticed the car wasn't accelerating normally so i made it to my destination and i started the car up went to put it in drive and it wouldn't accelerate is was though the car was in neutral so i put it in reverse and it went into reverse put it 3rd gear wouldn't accelerate the i tried 2cd gear and it drove kind of ruff so i then tried 1st gear and and i was able to make it home at 15 mph so i took the car to the chevy dealer i bought it from and to my surprise they say there were some defective parts in the transmission and they could rebuild the transmission for 2100 dollars and i would have to pay 850 to have it fixed because my car is out of warranty as 7/23/14 the car has the airbag service light and tire sensor light that appears on the dashboard . *tr

Potential defective seat belt assemblies causing airbag lights to come on and off intermittently when the seats are moved forward and backwards. local repair shop performed diagnostic test and the code displayed led them to the passenger side air bag. within a day of the repair the light came back on but went off and has not illuminated since. i have contacted gm (case # sr # 71-13111-46047) and they have refused to assist stating there are no recalls for this issue for the impala and will not reimburse me since i used a local repair shop and not a gm dealership. i believe this is a defective seat belt assembly that gm has installed in chevy impala?s and they refuse to take ownership. their track record with faulty parts and failure to recall unsafe vehicles has been proven. i feel this is a serious safety concern and i am asking the ntsb look into this matter. *tr

Had to put a new battery in and then the message light came on to service the air bag....they said a module went out under the drivers seat and under the left front bumper.......it will cost $ 1030 + tax...only 43,000 miles on the car. i cant afford to have it fixed and i'm told that the airbag wont work if i get in an accident till i get it fixed.........would that keep my insurance from paying if i do get in an accident and they see the air bag should have been serviced?? *tr

While driving on an sharp incline i needed to apply my brakes to successfully decrease speed (65 to 45). after completing this action a service message appeared on my dash board, "service air bag". this message has been displayed several times since then, generally after applying my brakes suddenly or any time i decrease from a speed over 60. i contacted my dealership asking if there was a issue. i was told to have my computer reset but that seems to temporarily fix my issues. *tr

While driving the vehicle, my 17 year old son informed me that the service air bag light came on. i took it to a chevrolet dealership near my town. they ran tests all day to say that a connection in the right side of the front passenger seat and a terminal needed to be replaced ($264). before getting home, which is about 10 miles from the dealership, the light came back on. call the dealership and returned car. this time they tell me that the seat belt pretensioner needs to be replaced ($215). i felt i was being given the run around so i did not get it repaired there. six months later the light comes back on. i take it to a honda dealership thinking they have better quality cars and they test it. they say that it's something else in the seat and that it will be approximately $700 to repair. i contact gm to see if there is a recall or something that can be done. they state no recall and that if it's not repaired by certified gm dealership, if it is later recalled i will not be refunded. i take it to certified gm dealer and they say they don't find anything because the system has been reset. last week, after the light staying on continuously i take it to the certified gm dealership. they run diagnostics and tell me that it's the seat belt pretensioner. after paying approximately $325 and them keeping my car for a week, i receive the car back and 35 miles later the light reappears. i am definitely sick of this car and think gm is aware of this problem but they don't want to fix it because of all the other recalls they are having. i have spent over $700 to no avail. my next car will definitely not be anything gm! calling gm is a waste of time because they act as if my call is a burden to them. *tr

I have a 2010 chevy impala that has a service air bags message on the dic message console. from what i have read online this is a definite safety hazard because the air bags may not work in an accident. the car is now out of warranty so i think this should have a recall since it is a major safety issue. *tr

1) airbag light intermittently has gone on and off for months. i asked dealer about it, they said it would be expensive to diagnose because they would have to trace the wiring harness, removing seat and dashboard. labor would be expensive. i complained to gm on a couple of occasions and was given a case#. i was told car is out of warranty, therefore, it would be my expense to have this diagnosed and fixed. dealer said airbag would not deploy if light is illuminated. this a major safety defect. fall 2013. 2) the rear window defroster stopped working last fall 2013. i had to pay for total repair as it was not covered under warranty. they said it was a wiring issue. impala's have been known to have issue. oct 2013. 3) the gas pedal fell off while i was driving. dealer said they never experienced anything like that before, but would have to replace the entire assembly. not covered under warranty, therefore, entire cost was mine. safety issue. sept 2013 4) the evap vent valve and solenoid had to be replaced. system leak pressurized evap would not hold. apr 2012 other issues have been reported/repaired, however, do not have paperwork at time of this complaint. *tr

I have not been in any accidents but the service airbag lights started staying on. when i am operating the vehicle, sometimes the light will turn off and sometimes it does not. in addition, i have had instances where multiple lights will come on and the engine's power is reduced by 50% according to the indicator. i have taken the car to the dealership and had the lights "reset". but this latest problem with the airbags has me rattled. i really do not feel that i should have to pay $1500 or more to get new airbags when the car has not been in an accident and i cannot afford a new car. *tr
