We have classified the 81 complaints from 2008 Chevrolet Impala about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
When driving it stated not to pick up speed then inboxes i couldn't go anymore i turn it off then bk on and i put it on drive. and it went into reverse so i turned it off waited a little and then tiered it back on and it picked up a little speed (5mph) and i kept having to turn it off n on till i made it home. after i haven't drove it. the only good thing was that it happened on my back rode to my apt. (less cars)
When taking off from stop the car hesitates and jerks hard and sometimes 10 to 15mph will quit accelerating and then jerk then takes off. state highway.
I have dad my transmission rebuilt and the solenoids keep going out this will be the third time i will be getting them replaced, i have not had an operating vehicle for a week now and i just have wait to save up to have them replaced.
Started forward from full stop at a traffic signal heard loud bang car reversed direction and impacted car behind it
Ignition is messing up and the power will go down
When starting from a stop, the car will sometimes initially move forward slowly and then suddenly launch forward about 3-5 seconds after applying the accelerator. it is also giving a traction lost indicator when i make sharp turns from a stop and it sounds as if there is slipping from the front end. remedy for this is to back off the sharp turn slightly and once the car is rolling turn the wheel more sharply.
Vehicle hesitates throttle body causes car to jerk cut off not pick up speed always idled up speed sensor reads 107 mph when only going 30mph stalls. almost was rear ended because car shut off in the middle of driving.i have my car regularly serviced and all of a sudden this started happening. my blendoor aculater cause my heat not to sometimes come on and it makes this loud clicking noise. most if no all impala have this problem and gm knows about all the things i told you about yet they dont wanna recall the vehicle
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet impala. while the vehicle was stationary, it became stuck in the neutral gear. the vehicle was towed. the dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 214,000.
Trans has a problem shifting into gear the right way, had it service 4 times an now the car sits in drive way, problem started last year 2017 gm needs to help out with this problem period.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the gear shifter would independently shift into neutral and started to jerk. the contact restarted the vehicle but the shift lever failed to move from the park position without any warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the gear shift wiring was fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 210,000.
My car stopped on 630. it said disabled full throttle. i had to sit for 15 minutes before it would start. i then hear a clicking noise that started at 830am and stopped at 832am. i've had nothing but problems with this car. do not buy any impala, unless you have a lifetime of fixable recalls. it's hot in arkansas and to stall for 15 minutes with children in the car is unacceptable. when you call chevy customer service, they can not help you with anything. they just take your vin number and state oh i don't see a recall for your vehicle, although you read 5598 problems/same issue you are having with your car. erratic transmission is the whole problem. so to chevrolet and company please think about families and children when attempting to sale a new car with used products. it's not cool and the sad part is you will not fix it. warrant my behind chevy need a lifetime of recalls for everyone on all cars. may jesus be with your company. sincerely a mother of 3 boys. *tr
Communication between gas petal and throttle body breaks down causing vehicle to display reduced engine power causing vehicle to slow to 20 to 30 mph instantly. happen on highway almost causing accident due to slowdown. should be safety recall before someone or myself gets killed.
While driving my car for only two minutes, the reduced power sensor came on and traction control came on also. my car would not go above 20 mph. went back to normal after an hour. very concerning if i was on the interstate when this happened.was on a back country highway when this happened.
I started see a warning light on in my car that read "engine power is reduced, service traction control" so i sent gm an email regarding this and maybe a month or so later i received a notice that said the gas throttle sensor will cause this to appear when it is bad. they advised if i felt this was the problem i could take it to a gm dealer and have it check, but if it wasn't they would not cover it and i would be responsible for the cost of the diagnostics test. i took my car and took my car , along with the notice to sunrise pontiac on 12/31/15. i was told that i needed a thermostat a gas pressure sensor. the cost to repair these items would run me almost $900 and i could not afford that t this time. i asked the technician, which could i get away with not fixing right now and he said i needed to go ahead and replace the thermostat to get the check engine light off. i had that work done and the light still was on, as well as, the warning lights. so i contacted gm again and advised them of the situation. they paid for me to go to serra chevrolet to get another diagnostic done. this time i was told i needed an app sensor, gas pressure sensor, thermostat (which had already been replaced), and a temperature sensor, all of which would run me $1300. i told them i could not afford that and left. i contacted gm once again and explained what was told to me and asked why the sensors would not be covered when they were apart of the gas throttle body? now i'm getting a warning that says "starting disabled service throttle " and my car is literally cutting off while i'm driving. i feel like this is a matter that gm should be willing to repair for their consumers to prevent accident or death. i 've read on google that several impala owners are experiencing the same thing. also, while i'm driving my gear control is popping out. this is my only means of transportation.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet impala. while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitated and jerked forward. the contact took the vehicle to gregg young chevrolet (17750 burt st, omaha, ne 68118, (402) 509-3028) twice, but they were unable to diagnose the failure. on one occasion, the contact's vehicle lurched forward and crashed into another vehicle that turned in front of the contact. the crash was a t-bone collision. a police report was filed. the contact and other driver were injured and transported to the hospital for medical attention. the vehicle was towed to huber cadillac (11102 w dodge rd, omaha, ne 68154, (402) 496-5400), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, coil, and fuel injector (twice); however, the failure recurred. the failure mileage was 85,000.
While driving my car my car stalled as if it was in neutral. i stopped and tried to put the car in park, but nothing happened. i tried reverse and the car wouldn't move. it crakes up but there are no shifting of gears. i had to replace my gas tank as well as my pedals for this car. please help.
I was on the 10 freeway in los angeles heading west in the far left lane doing 65 miles an hour all the sudden my car lost power drop down to 10 miles an hour was almost rear ended. the engine power reduced message appeared on my dashboard. i contacted the dealership they told me there was nothing they can do i contact a gm they said they couldn't do nothing i was reading on their blogs this is an ongoing issue with multiple people so the yeah this is a big safety concern and seems to be a manufacturing issue. please help!
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the transmission gears hesitated to change and the gears were slipping. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Was on my way home from work and the transmission started slipping out of gears. came to a stop at a traffic light and when the light turned green i could not go toward. engine just revved. had the car towed and was told i needed to replace transmission control solenoid because that was the issue. had part replaced only to find the tranny itself went. did some research and it looks like this is a very common problem and i am not the only one experiencing this issue. why isn't this issue or defect under recall when its such a common problem and very costly as well?
When taking off the vehicle would jerk into gear after a slight sputter. you have to let the transmission get fully hot (running for 10-15 minutes even on a hot day) for it not to jerk when pulling off or let it slightly coast before giving gas to keep from jerking. once it's good and hot i have not seen any other problems.
Traction control needs service message displayed, then throttle disabled message displayed shutting the engine off going down the road. so therefor no power steering, brakes etc . once pulled onto shoulder car would not crank. had to wait five minutes until the gauges flickered and then car was able to be restarted. this is highly dangerous if not where to pull off or being followed closely. not to mention not power steering assist or brake assist. this could very easily cause a crash and there for should be a recall issued before people are injured or killed by this!
The vehicle jerks after take off from a stop and loses speed in traffic.
Transmission problems vehicle jerks hard after coming from a complete stop. this is a safety issue on this vehicle. this safety issues can be a danger if vehicle is out in the middle of on coming traffic. this is a major problem and has a issues on most chevrolet impalas. this problem has accord in moving traffic. this problem accord the second month after vehicle was bout from dealership. dealership says there is no warranty on vehicle
I was driving down the street and out of nowhere the engine light came on and said engine reduced power. the car seemed to slow down and not have power. if i came to a stop and began to drive again, the car barely accelerated and the transmission jerked every single time it shifted. i had every car going around me down the busy street, because the car would barely go. i was worried i wouldn't even make it home and that the transmission was going to have serious problems along with the engine as it jerked roughly with every gear change. this is something that needs to be recalled immediately! it couldn't have happened at a worse time, as i just purchased this car a few weeks ago, have my first child on the way, and just got a house. *tr
I let me 2008 chevy impala warm up as the windchill is around -35 degrees below zero. i started out of the parking lot, when all of a sudden my message display said "reducing engine speed", then it said "service disabled, disabled service throttle". then the veh came to a complete stop and left me stranded in the middle of a parking lot! there are no towers available at all till tomorrow morning either. tried jumping starting the vehicle - but to no avail. called a chevy dealer and they had no idea what was happening with it. *tr
While driving my car the speed reduced itself from 40mph to 5 mph and the check engine light came on along with reduced engine power across my dashboard. the car started shaking and jerking. it then shut off while i was driving it. i had it towed the next day to the repair shop and they said a sensor was bad in the gas pedal and replaced the whole pedal. 4 days later it did the same thing. again it started shaking and jerking then shut itself off. i took it back to the repair shop but by the time they could read the codes the car had been shut off long enough that they couldn't find anything. they cleaned the throttle body and gave it back. the next day it did the same thing. i again took it back and did not shut it off til they read the codes. it read the throttle body was bad. they replaced it and gave the car back. 30 miles later, it started all over again. i have spoke to general motors and they refuse to do anything about this issue even though there are several forums on the web with impalas dating back to 2005 having this same issue. this is going to cause an accident and hurt/kill people if its not addressed soon. *tr
The transmission slips and will not allow the car to speed up when taking off from a dead stop. it will then suddenly rev up and take off or the wheels will spin. this has happened many times in a day and then be fine for a few days. it works fine if shifted manually. very dangerous when crossing intersections and not knowing if there will be any power to accelerate. the sudden jerk is hard to deal with in the wisconsin slippery weather conditions. i have seen many complaints on the web for the same issue. *tr
On this day i was driving normal speed, climate and roadway was dry and free of debris. the traction control light came on and the car began to shift hard when accelerating after a stop. today, january 5, 2015 while operating under normal speed and dry climate the check engine light came on along with traction control, which has remained on since the initial incident. the car began jerking and the engine shut off while traveling at a rate of 40mph. i was almost hit by the vehicle behind me, however thankfully managed to pull to the shoulder of the roadway. my children were in the car with me. i shut the car off in hopes that the lights would reset, but they did not. i have contacted gm and in my opinion they couldn't care less about this issue. i have researched several online forums and see that this appears to be an issue with many impala owners. a few even stated they had wrecked their vehicles due to the engine shutting down while experiencing the exact same issues. why has this issue not been addressed? i see reports dating back to 2010. the same danger that warranted an ignition switch recall is happening in these cases as well, these cars are shutting off while being driven. *tr

When accelerating after a stop, transmission feels like it's slipping, the car does not want to move. after applying enough gas, the car will "brake loose" and lunge forward. this can definitely cause an accident. *tr
Was driving on busy one lane road, reduced speed, check traction control, check engine light came on and car slowed down to 45 and would not go any faster, was able to pull off of road and shut car off started about 5 minutes later no indication of the problem. two days later the problem came back. went to internet to check problem seems like there have been 100,000 s of these problems many resulting in accidents. it does not show that there has been a recall. this is very serious if i would have been on a freeway with trucks traveling at high speed i could have been killed. what has the vehicle safety board done to protect owners of faulty vehicles? *tr

Letter from constituent who experienced problems with her 2008 impala, seeking reimbursement for the repairs she believes were all part of a recall. *smd the consumer stated on april 1, 2014, she had just exited the interstate highway, when suddenly the engine shut off. the vehicle would not re-start and a message appeared on the dash that read throttle control system. the vehicle was towed to a service station. the throttle body was replaced. on april 19, 2014. the check engine light illuminated as she was driving. she pulled into a parking lot, and turned off the engine. the vehicle did not re-start, once again, the vehicle had to be towed. the power train control module had to be replaced and the computer was re-programmed.*jb
While accelerating the car lost the ability to continue accelerating all at once which caused a jerking motion of the car causing me(the driver) to be thrown forward hitting my head on the steering wheel. it all happened very fast and the reduced engine power and traction control message appeared on the dash board and is still on the dash board. as i said it all happened very fast but i was able to brace myself slightly which is the only reason i was not seriously injured. this issue which now after speaking to my car mechanic and me seeing many other people having the same issue after doing some research online is a death sentence to someone. someone is going to die from the car losing the ability to accelerate all at once along with a jerking motion that makes you want to have a foot on the gas and a foot on the brake to be able to stop should the car take off on it own. *tr
Difficulty shifting into gear from park with vehicle started or off when depressing brake. shift lever was locked and would not move. on 3/16/2014 it completely locked in park position. i called road service and they removed part of console cover and found wire had broken in wire harness (black) which controls release of gear shift while depressing brake pedal. they showed me how to depress release button for parking gear. i had to do this for 3 days manually till i could get a electrical shop repair the broken wire subsequent wire harness as they told me it was not feasible to replace just the black wire to the park gear release. it cost me $465.00 for repairs. i checked on line and found this has been a quite a problem with 2008 chevy impala's and is happened quite frequently. my question is why gm has not issued a bulletin due to this problem to correct it. to be stranded and in the dark is quite a frightening situation. *tr
Vehicle stalls out. for example after sitting at a red light and then trying to accelerate the cars stalls and won't pick up speed, it then jerks hard and drive as usual. *tr

In june 2012 i had this problem error message read: "engine power reduced " as i was driving 55 mph on highway mph fell below to 40 i had to get off highway. i had this problem fixed so i thought it cost me about 360 dollars. same exact recurring problem same error message today 12/09/13. this is ridiculous gm has to know this is not safe. dealership will not repair again at their own expense. too much money for me to continue paying over n over again. they need to recall this car it's outrageous! can someone please help us?! *tr

I turned my car on, put on my seat belt, put my foot on the brakes, and tried to shift my car out of park and into drive. i could not push the button on the shifter in, and the shifter would not move out of park. i researched the problem and found that there is a quick release button underneath the center console on the passenger's side. i had to put my emergency brake on, turn on my car, have someone reach under the center console from the passenger's side to press the button, and shift into drive while they held the button. i still am unable to shift my car out of park unless someone is holding that button. *js

Shifter is locked - again - and will not go into gear. *tr
I had just started my 2008 chevrolet impala ltz and was leaving when the service stabilitrak warning came on and engine power was reduced warning came on. the vehicle lost power and began to jerk as it shifted gears. unfortunately, it occurred at a time when the local chevrolet dealer's service department was closed and on the weekend. i'm hoping to get this problem resolved on monday as this is my only mode of transportation and i'm 8 weeks from graduating from college!! it would suck if i have spend all this time and money in getting my education only to fail due to a vehicle breakdown that seems to be an issue with this very make and model. this could be a very dangerous situation for anyone having this problem with their impala. it shouldn't take a loss of life or injury, fire or crash to make the manufacturer place a recall on the faulty part that is causing this. *tr
Since i have owned the car,it gets randomly stuck in park. it usually is in a driveway on a slight incline. it takes 20 or 30 minutes of pushing the brake and starting and restarting to finally get it to shift from park to drive. the last time this happened it was definitely a safety issue. i was on an interstate driving in the fast lane when i came upon stopped traffic. there was a bad accident ahead and traffic was not moving at all. after about 20 or 30 minutes i turned my car off and waited for traffic to start moving. when traffic started moving, i tried to put my car in drive and it would not move. i was not on an incline. i was on level ground. i was in the fast lane and here i sat unable to move at all, could not pull of the road. irate drivers and 18 wheelers coming up on me at 70 mile an hour. i was so scared, i thought i'm going to get killed and so is the driver that crashes into me. i did everything i knew to do and after about 20 minutes it finally went into gear. had it not, i was going to abandon the car because i knew it would get creamed. my only concern was the person that would hit the abandoned car would be hurt or killed. when i got home i called the gm customer service and was told to take it to my local chevy dealer. i took it to them as well as another mechanic and was told, i would have to bring it in when it happened because they could not get it to do it again so they couldn't repair it. well duh, if i could bring it in when it happened i wouldn't have a problem. one told me if it was a stick shift, he would know what it was but since it was on the column, he had no idea. after spending money and time i still have a major safety issue in my eyes. *tr
