We have classified the 61 complaints from 2007 Chevrolet Impala about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Transmission tends to long shift at 1st and 2nd gears causing erratic shifting uphill and sometimes turns. unsafe! jasper engines and transmissions did update for clutch plates and pressure solenoid for this is known to be a problem. hesitated acceleration whim going uphill. first trans was installed in 2016 october
When driving it shifts hard from first gear to second gear mostly on a grade not to steep shifts so hard it chirps tires when it engages into second gear fluid is on correct level .it happens at a stop sign or light normal driving i do not drive fast or accelerate quickly. im in process of getting it checked im not driving car too much right now because of this issue now 132.222 miles on car.
My car has had the power steering rack replaced 3 times within a 6 months time frame. my transmission was replaced and it seems to be slipping again i have had it replaced under a year ago. i was driving when i noticed my car slipping from 11st fear into second. the defrost does not work properly and all windows are frozen making it unsafe to drive your vehicle.
Well my 2007 chevrolet impala want drive or move so i don't if it's the transmission bad or not i need answer please it's leaking fluid and oil as well.
When taking of from a complete stop the vehicle hesitates to accelerate and starts to jerks and jumps. and shifts hard.feels like somone just rearended you.happens all the time whether on a city street or merging onto a highway and also while turning .
Takata recall. i pulled out of my driveway and realized i had forgotten my purse and when i tried to back up to get my purse, the car would not move. i was in the middle of the road and almost got struck by another vehicle. a few men came to help push the car out of the road. after checking a few rhings, they told me that my transmission had gone out.
Vehicle was in motion in the middle of a very busy intersection, thank god it was at night. the car started violently shaking and the display put up the warning "low engine power" and "service traction control".has happened numerous times before when the car was parked but never while driving. check engine light comes on for a little bit but then usually goes away after a day or so.
Temp gauge moves to hot side, dic shows engine hot turn ac off, engine power reduced, traction stability and change engine oil soon
Transmission failure, slipping in overdrive and during takeoff excessive enginge oil usage.
Last may i was driving my car from work going approximately 40 mph a message came on the information screen. something about going over 160mph. the car suddenly slowed, couldn't seem to find the proper gear. at the same time the speedometer was going up and down showing 60, 30, 80, 0. then it cut off. i put the rolling car into neutral and started it. it fired up immediately. i put in gear and continued until it was safe to stop. let engine cool off and drove home. the speedometer continued to fluctuate, it also cut off and flashed the message again. called dealership next morning and took in. they came back with diagnosis of transmission failure, need to replace. i shelled out $4000 for the transmission, now it is slipping. i drove home today and that message flashed across my screen along with the transmission struggling to find the proper gear. the speedometer was moving up and down. the speedometer was replaced when the transmission was replaced. i have contacted the dealership to schedule an appointment. i also made a formal complaint to gm. *tr
Transmission slips when you stop at light when you step on accelerator to go transmission slips and then suddenly catches and car jerks quickly forward causing car suddenly lunge forward.

My wife's 2007 chevy impala left her stranded on the side of a busy highway in a snowstorm. she was driving at highway speeds when all of a sudden, her overheat warning light began flashing, and what she described as "a huge cloud of fog or smoke" was trailing behind her. she immediately put on her hazards and pulled off to the side of the road. once stopped, the digital readout showed "engine overheat, idle engine" and then the engine shut off. the vehicle is at a dealer awaiting diagnosis.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that after the vehicle was placed into the park position and the ignition key was removed, the vehicle started independently and rolled away without warning. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred as she was exiting the vehicle. the vehicle stopped independently. as a result, the contact sustained unknown injuries to the right leg that required medical attention. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure and the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v092000 (power train). the failure mileage was 100,000.
Reduced engine power/ traction control warning/ gas line fuel leak. this car flashed a reduced engine power message while i was going 65 mph straight away on busy city (in houston) freeway and the traction control warning light came on. my car then immediately reduced speed and would not go beyond 40 mph. i was told that the gas line fuel leak has nothing to do with it but it seems very coincidental that this all happened in the same day. gm is putting out a lot of trashy vehicles right now and this should definitely be a recall; especially when there are numerous valid complaints of the same issue. i'll never by gm/chevy again. i am going back to an imported brand
This all started when the factory battery went dead so i went and purchased a new one about a week after i went out one morning to leave for work and it wouldn't start had to be jumped. so later on i checked for a drain on the battery and found out that the radio the interior lights and the display where causing a drain. so i had all three checked all tests fine so i purchased another battery and was good for about a week then all the sudden the radio died and all the auditable sounds stop working the next day went out to try to start the car and nothing happened only had headlights and interior lights wouldn't start. so i put it on a charger for a couple hours tried it again and it was completely dead like there was no battery in . come to find out that the bcm ( body control module ) was shorted. now i've got to find a new and figure out how to get it up to dealership to have it programmed
Driving down road at 65mph when all of a sudden reduce engine power comes on and my car shuts off the cruise and i cant get the power up over 15mph on a major highway............ *tr

My complaint concerns my 2007 chevy impala transmission floor shifter is locking in park.. i could not depress the button on the floor shifter, to shift to reverse. i tried turning the steering wheel which of course is locked when the vehicle is in park. i am worried that next time it will not get unstuck. so i checked the internet and saw many comments about 2007 impala shifter's locking and realized i needed to file a complaint. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet impala. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v355000 (power train); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified. the contact had not experienced a failure.
The shift gear gets stuck in park. it won't move. i had to remove body where the gear shift is and saw it was a wire that was loose. it happen last year also. *tr
I was driving down the road suddenly check engine light came on speed reduced get a reduced power/traction control message and speed drop to 40 in matter of seconds engine running very rough. almost caused a accident due to this happening at the morning rush hour on commute to work. i looked online this seems to be a common complaint that there needs to be something done about it. i have had other issues (eg: steering mid-shaft failure front end shimmy, brake issues, connector to rear defrost melting, wires in shifting console breaking to where couldn't remove keys or get out of park) with this vehicle and called gm about them and they assign a case number and tell you sorry you will need to pay and keep receipt if there is ever a recall issued. *tr
When the car is idle upon acceleration, the car jerks profusely, while the heat/cool system is in operation there is a grinding noise along the dash area and continues for 5 minutes after controls has been shut off, drive side door electrical refuses to work to lock/unlock position. *tr
After driving it for many years and having no problems, i drove it a short distance and parked and could not remove the key, i tried taking it out of park and putting it back in park and after trying that several times and it not working i tried (jiggling the shifter when it was in park) and it released. it happened again for the 2nd day in a row. i will bring it to a local repair shop after the weekend is over and see if it is a bad wire or something. *tr
Tl* the contact owned a 2007 chevrolet impala. while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure caused the contact to crash the vehicle into a ravine. the air bag in the steering wheel was the only air bag that deployed. a police report was filed. the contact sustained a broken neck, ribs, back, foot, and ankle. the passenger sustained a broken collar bone, ribs, and ankle. in addition, the passenger's liver and spleen were lacerated and both occupants required medical attention. the vehicle was destroyed. the vehicle had not been diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet impala. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle vibrated and jerked. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v355000 (electrical system), but the part was not available. the dealer informed the contact that the part may become available within three months, but there was no guarantee. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was unknown.
the vehicle failed to shift into park. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that there was a broken wire in the btsi solenoid terminal which needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired by re wiring the ground wire to the shifter where the pin had broken. on may 3rd the key got stuck in the ignition and would not come out. let the car sit for 24 hours the battery died and the key released out of the ignition. took the car to the dealership on may 5, 2014 and the shifter wires were re constructed. car still acts as if the shifter is not going to shift. *tr
Bought car (2007 impala ss) 2 years ago i drive it mostly on highway to work with since then has ranged down from 85 miles a day to about 40 an last year around this exact time my transmission went completely out i had it rebuilt fully for almost 2000 dollars an just last week i noticed slippage again i took it in to where i had it rebuilt an the scanner sowed the torque converter was failing so i replaced it again an a day later i'm noticing it again , i don't ,mind repairing wear an tear on vehicles but a transmission ever year is ridiculous an extreme fa the general public to deal with i am hoping that gm recalls this problem ,an i am seeing an hearing a lot of folks with this problem if anything can be done to help please contact me. *tr
No heat in car, over heating, took to garage, it is head gasket. very expensive to fix, only 53,000 miles. *tr
2007 impala ss. transmission hesitation occurs when going around 45-60 mph. car semi-engages shifting, but then backs out, giving a chugging sensation while driving in that speed range. higher speeds above 60 produces an incredible screech/whine noise. currently in shop for transmission diagnostics. at 74,000 miles clutch was replaced due to it being cracked in half. gm has either mad poor transmission engineering, using shotty parts, or this transmission is overly underrated for the power of the engine. *tr
When i put my car in park i cannot get the key to disengage from the ignition so that i am able to take the key out. i have tried jiggling the gear shift etc and it will not come out regardless of what i try. *tr
Started my vehicle as i went to pull off to drive my vehicle my car would not accelerate/pick up on speed. the car started putting. i pulled over because the car would no longer move, but was still running. my sister push me bumper to bumper to my mechanic only to find out it was my throttle body. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet impala. while driving 65 mph, the steering wheel seized and the vehicle stalled without warning. an independent mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
After stopping, i push on the accelerator, the engine revs but the transmission does not engage, after two seconds the car will slam into gear and violently lurch forward. powerful enough to strain my neck. very dangerous. *tr
Car bucks when going from 0 mph. brought car into dealer several times they checked it out. they didn't find a problem but car still bucks. spoke to other owners, they have same problem. no response from general motors that the problem exists. problem started at @30000 miles. car has 68000 miles now.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving 5 mph, the vehicle exhibited a loud, abnormal noise as it abnormally accelerated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the transmission would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. the failure and current mileage was 78,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the airbag and the engine warning lights illuminated. the contact mentioned that while at a stop light and attempting to drive, the vehicle jerked. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic and the failure was unable to be replicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 95,000 and the current mileage was 139,000.
As i was driving the engine light came on and the display read reduced engine power. the car slowed down and resisted as i accelerated. i can only drive about 20 miles per hour. there is no warning and there is a decrease in acceleration. there was no warning and i have my child in the car. this is very dangerous. *tr
Slip in torque conversion around 30 to 45. also, you'll be taking off from a stop and when you start to press the gas it delays, then slams into motion almost like being hit from behind. *tr
Returning home from work on interstate noticed it took higher rpms to get up to the 65mph speed limit. after driving for a few minutes i stopped at a red light. the vehicle could then only get up to 40mph and lost power down to 10mph when i pulled over and called it a day. currently at the shop with 10 different codes showing. unfortunately i have had it jsut over 5 years and not in warranty any more. *tr
The shift gear has become stuck in park twice. the shifter will not move. i had to have it towed to the mechanic twice in order for the vehicle to become operable again. the shop replaced some wiring and mechanics inside the shift area. since they have replaced it twice, along with the original parts, i am on the third round. *tr
At a stop light. feels like transmission is not in gear, engine revs 2500/3000rpm, then trans goes in gear. told by dealer if using left foot on brake at a stop, this would cause the problem. they offered no help. was told without codes there is no problem with transmission! when i got car it was leaking trans fluid.took it back to dealer,to have leak fixed. at another shop i use, while car was on lift you could see trans pan on valve body had been off. trans has for sure been worked on! as you might guess it will not do this at the dealer.i let the car with them for 1 week, for them to drive.when i got car back they put all of 3miles on it. *tr
Exiting the dartmouth street parking garage (underground) on dartmouth st. boston, ma. exit ramp is a moderate incline. as i approached the garage attendant booth to pay parking fee, i let off the accelerator letting the car coast to a stop while i retrieved the parking time/date receipt. when i located the receipt (about 5 seconds) from the center console i looked up to find the car was rolling backwards down the ramp toward a concrete wall (by this time) approximately 15 mph. note: i am a 50 year old, (male) retired police office and was trained in radar speed enforcement including certified in speed estimation and i am also "evoc" (emergency vehicle operator course) trained. i was able to stop the car before hitting the wall, another vehicle, or any pedestrians. i feel a tragedy could have occurred had someone been walking in the garage. the car seems to have no ability to "hill hold" when in "drive" at idle. i was shocked at how fast the auto accelerated backward. i have personally driven approximately 750,000+ miles without an at fault collision. the car seems to do this whenever on an incline and on a few other occasions had occurred in parking lots rolling (forward as well as backward) as soon as shifted out of "park" in the fraction of a second time that it takes to move my driving foot (right) from brake (due to park interlock) to accelerator. note: this auto is a 2007 chevrolet impala ss with 5.3l v8 engine and four speed automatic transmission. my primary concern is that impalas are generally driven by elderly drivers with slower reflexes than myself. i have further found numerous online forum discussions of this issue by owners of all engine equipped chevrolet impalas. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the key became stuck in the ignition with the vehicle engaged in park. the contact notified the dealer who advised that the shifter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 63,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the engine rpms suddenly increased as the vehicle failed to respond to acceleration attempts. in addition, the transmission hesitated to engage in gear but once it did, it would shift hard. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the tcc valve was leaking, causing transmission fluid to leak out of the torque converter. as a result, the transmission had to be rebuilt. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 37,000 and the current mileage was 39,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet impala. the contact stated the gear shift failed. the vehicle was already at a repair shop for an unrelated failure and they stated that there was a failure within the gear shift cable. the mechanic had to manually shift the vehicle into gear. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 112,000.
This car has less than 100k miles and chevy dealerships refuse to diagnose the issue with the transmissions and there are multiple complaints about this issue this car is unsafe. the issue is random jerking of the transmission upon taking off in traffic, at light, or from stand still has caused: (a) my wheels to spin, (b) the car to pull into the next lane, (c) almost rear-end collision with car in front, and (d) sudden rapid acceleration in traffic. the car i almost rear-ended was a 2007 chevy police impala the officer exited his car asked was there a problem i told him about the transmission issue and he stated "yea mine does that too this car isn't a safe one" this need to be addressed nationally. *tr
My transmission is slipping and sounds like a bearing is going out when i release the accelerator. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph the transmission failed. the traction control warning light was illuminated at the time of the failure. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic for inspection where they stated that they could not determine the cause of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the dealer was notified and advised the contact that they were not familiar with the type of failure. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 50,000.
