Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2005 Chevrolet Impala

Speedometer malfunctions. sometimes it registers wrong speed, sometimes registers a speed even though sitting still. began at about 55,000 miles. did research and found to be a common problem but no recalls and no help whatsoever from gm. *tr

The instrument panel on my 2005 chevrolet impala goes haywire. the speedometer will not register correctly. when i'm driving, it registers 0. sometimes when i am driving 25 mph it is registering 120. my gas gauge also registers empty when i have just filled my car with gas. several people who live in my community and own the same vehicle (2005 impala) are having the same problem. *tr

I have an 2005 chevrolet impala with 45,000 miles and night time driving is very difficult and scary as the headlights will go off without warning and you never know when it will happen. i have had it in the shop multiple times and they have replaced parts and still has not fixed the problem. now the speedometer has quit working and is stuck on 140 miles an hour. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. while driving 55 mph in the rain, the speedometer displayed 125 mph. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the repair would take a couple of days. after the vehicle was parked for a few days, the speedometer reset itself. however, the failure recurred a couple of days later. the vehicle has been repaired by the dealer. the current and failure mileages were 64,000.

While driving my 2005 impala ls with only 38,000 miles on it, the speedometer dropped to zero then back to well over the limit. lately it is all over the place. the tachometer is doing the same. i took the car to the dealer and they said they would repair it but would cost me over $600.00. these things are covered on the pickups and suv's to 70,000 miles but not the cars. why not??? it's almost like chevrolet considers it's car owners "not worthy". what's up! chevrolet??? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. while driving 65 mph, the gauges on the instrument panel worked intermittently. the speedometer would drop to zero and the temperature gauge would become hot. the dealer stated that the instrument cluster failed. no repairs were made. the failure mileage was 39,000 and current mileage was 46,000. updated 03/10/08. *lj the intake manifold gaskets leaked as well.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the security alarm intermittently restricted the vehicle from being started. he never took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. the current mileage was 7,800 and failure mileage was 6,900.

Speedometer and fuel gauge malfunction. same as other complaints i've hear and read about. speedometer and fuel gauge do not work properly. a drivers discussions behind the wheel can only be as good as the information that is displayed to the driver. if speed is not a safety issue, what is? *tr

Driving down paved road headlights will go out sometimes they will come back on and sometimes they won't. i also have reported my speedometer showing 80 or 90 mph when i am driving at normal speeds and 40 or 50 mph when completely stopped - sometimes it will not work at all. vehicle has not been repaired due to the cost involved. also have had a problem with my power steering pump and a wheel hub. hub replaced and paid out of pocket and it did not correct the problem. paid $600 to replace the hub. had to replace the tires because of that defect. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy impala it has around 44000 miles. i have had it about one year, about a month ago my wife was driving home after dropping me off it was about 2 in the morning she was about 10 miles from the house and the head light went out on her. she got the car stopped and after about 15 mins they came back on, so she started to go again got about 5 more miles and they went out again. after about 10 mins they came back on. there has been no problems for about 3 weeks. then again the other night they did the same thing but this time she was going around a curve in the road (thank god she knew the road) now she only drives the car after dark if she has to. *tr

About two years ago my speedometer quit working. i would be driving and it would register 100 mph when i was not going but about 30 mph. around the same time my horn quit working. when i honked it, it would sound faint until it just quit. also, when i try to put my car in gear it is really hard to at times. when it does finally go into gear it makes a really loud thud noise. now i have a leak in my radiator that has been gradually getting bigger. i bought this car because it was supposed to be the safest. now i'm not so sure. *tr

The speedometer does not work on my vehicle, making it unsafe to determine the rate of speed when traveling. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated the speedometer became inoperable and had to be replaced. the service dealer replaced the instrument panel.

Speed sensor went bad at 45,000 miles on a 2005 impala. repaired the problem and found it caused the instrument control panel to be in-operable and need to replace that. wipers also park in upright position. no defect codes found. *tr

Since i brought my 2005 chevrolet impala in 2006, i have always have the same problem with my passlock system. one minute my car is driving fine. i park it go where i need to go and then come back to my car to leave and it won't start. i took it to the dealership in 2006 and they said it was an electrical problem and claimed that they fixed it. however since then it has happen to me repeatedly. according to the owner manual it says " leave the key in the ignition at the on position and wait until the security light is no longer flashing. once it stops, turn the key to the off position and start the car." this never works for me. sometimes the flashing light continue for the whole day, and my car is just stuck where ever the incident (security light flashing) occurs. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55 mph on normal road conditions, without any warning signal smoke started coming from under the dash board and noticed the a/c blower had seized. the contact pulled over and with police help disconnected the a/c blower fuse. the vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined over load current to the blower motor, the control module and the 30 amps fuse. a police report was taken. the vehicle was taken to a dealership who replaced the blower, control module and 30 amp fuse holders. the contact expressed concern due to the lack of warning signal in the presence of a serious electrical failure.

Dt*: the contact stated that the vehicle caught on fire without warning while was parked in the driveway overnight. the fire originated from the engine compartment and battery area, as flames were clearly present. the fire department extinguished the fire and determined the fire was electrical in nature. the police were on the scene and a report was taken. the vehicle was totaled due to the extreme fire damage. the manufacturer was alerted.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the gauges and instrument panel lights intermittently failed. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

I have had stalling upon attempting to start my vehicle. i have contact gm & was told that nothing is defective in my car. my car has been to a gm service dept. for service more than 10 times since may 2006. i would like to know what recourse do i have with regards to addressing my vehicle's defect? *nm

The speedometer on my 05 impala didn't work properly. it would at times stop working, and others, not read the correct speed. the speedo jut stopped working properly. it would do that all the time, especially when it would get damp or humid out. i checked and gm did nothing to recall it. i had to pay $300 to replace the instrument cluster. this is a very common problem with impalas. gm won't recall it or anything. it can't be safe driving a car and not having any idea how fast you're going. i really think gm should be pressured not recalling this. *tr

2005 chevrolet impala, car idle is rough, delayed crank, may be necessary to hold key in start several seconds until start. *nm

Traction control system failed on my vehicle. the failure turned off my anti-lock brake system and my traction control system at two inopportune times. this failure has twice in the past few months. it first occurred at the end of december during a snow storm. the second failure occurred a few weeks ago while driving through a rain and hail storm. both times the vehicle was taken to the dealership to be fixed. the dealer replaced a faulty speed sensor. my car is about a year old and two speed sensor have already failed. i'm upset at the fact that we purchased the car based on its safety features and twice now they have failed, as i mentioned earlier, at the most inopportune moments, where we were relying heavily on said safety features. *nm

the vehicle hesitated to start therefore you have to hold the key several seconds to start. the car has a rough idle. only had the car three month and have return it about 10 times for the same issues. i was told that it's normal for it to run that way. i was also told that the grand am are the same way with the same engine by the dealer. *sc *jb

Speedometer reading to slow then to fast now nothing. *tr

Rear window molding loose will not stay in tact after repair, delayed crank-hold key in ignition for a few seconds before starting then at times it wobbles then cuts off, electrical shocking, going over humps or turning there is clunnking noise, passenger side feels a lighter weight when operating, intermittent chuggle or hesistant when in light acceleration,on star system comes on automatically when key in ignition and the push is not pushed to activate, car only had 5600 miles at time of purchase and now has 11300 only had the for 5 1/2 months, engine make a whirling noise when accelerating from light start, transmissions is now starting to hesitate as if it shifting, when a/c is on and sitting in vehicle the car mumbles and stops when a/c is turned off. i've saved allm paper work from services performed when problems occured and will be taking the car back in again mon 7-24-06.also have a reference number on file with gmc concerning these defects.on star mailed me a notice concerning system alert this week. i have a 2005 chevy impala base model. had about 15 or more failures on the aspect of delayed cranking.dealer still cant solve the issue to keep me from having to repeatedly taking the car in for inspection and service as well as resolution. i purchased the car dec. 15, 2005. *nm

I have a 2005 chevy impala. about 2-3 times weekly, my car will not start properly. i turn the key to crank the vehicle, and it turns over without firing up. sometimes it may do this one time, at others it may do it 4-5 times. it is very irritating, and sounds horrible. i am not sure if this is damaging to my vehicle in any way or not. i have taken it to the dealership about 3-4 times since i purchased it. they have told me that there is nothing wrong with it. they say that gm has installed a chip in the ignition that will cause this to happen. i do not believe that is true, and cannot get a response from gm. i have sent them emails, and have gotten replies but nothing that helps. i would appreciate it if you could give me some help of any kind. perhaps you have heard of this problem already and know of a solution. thanks so much. *jb

I have had all kinds of problems with my 2005 chevy impala. when i go to start my car it doesn't start, my lights dem out, there is a popping noise in the steering wheel, there is a loud noise when i turn it to the right, when i turn the a/c on there is a loud noise, and there is a rattle in the dash and glove box. my battery had to be replaced already. i hate my car cause i have had nothing but problems with it. i will never own a chevy as long as i live. *tr
