I have a 2005 chevy impala ls 3.8 liter, the speedometer quit working all of a sudden. i can not safely judge the speed i am traveling. upon my research i have found that there have been several other consumers who have had this same issue on this model of car. the estimated repair would range from $400-$600. a rather expensive repair that i feel could possibly be a recall issue. *tr

With 92,000 miles on my 2005 impala the tachometer is working strangely, and now frozen at 6,100 rpms. i fear the entire gauge package will fail. the speedometer is starting to seem impacted now too. the internet is full of complaints on this issue, but gm will not recall? please help. we have owned this car since new, and cared for it well. it is in great shape and we love it. but now gauges? help!! thank you. *tr

First just a few minutes, now security light stays on...cant start. when the security light comes on my car won't crank and i have to let it reset before i can do anything. it has done me like this several times causing me to be stranded. i depend on this car to be safe and dependable and right now it is neither one. i take care of it, keep it serviced, and clean. this is a problem that i feel is beyond me and something that gmc should be responsible for fixing at no cost to me. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the wiring to the heater system that supplied power to the blower motor melted and caught fire inside the instrument panel. the heater system failed as a result of the fire. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the wiring was replaced. the contact called the manufacturer who stated that they could offer no assistance. the current and failure mileage was 108,284.

Speedometer is miss-reading, at 65mph i am reading 140mph, it will not reset back to zero. now it has went a complete circle and is reading 3mph at 65mph gm will not cover the cost of replacement. i have no idea how fast or slow i'm going in a city in a school zone. this is a safety issue. *tr

The speedometer quit working in my 2005 chevy impala on or about oct. 10, 2010. this is a big concern since we can not afford to have this repaired & we don't know how fast we are going. *tr

Speedometer gets stuck at different speeds. can't determine real speed when this happens. was told the instrument panel would need to be replaced. speedometer started working again by itself so i did not replace the instrument panel. now it is happening again. checked online and there are many many of the same complaint. this should be a recall item. *tr

Speedometer displays incorrect speed. *tr

Driving on grande blvd tyler tx, on my way to work, headlights turned off completely, turned the high beams on and the headlights came back on. *tr

After the ignition is shut off with either the key in or out of ignition, when any door is open the radio is supposed to turn off. periodically the radio will stay of even after the door is opened. most times, the radio will go off if the door is opened back up, but there have been some times that the radio never shuts off. the sensor is combined into the lock assembly. i have been checking forums for any chevy, gmc, saturn, or other gm models and it seems to be a common problem. i also have a saturn outlook that is doing the same thing.

The speedometer on my 2005 chevrolet impala ls stopped working and now the needle points straight down. there is no way for me to judge my speed which is very dangerous for me and other motorists. after researching this situation there seems to be a defect in a part called a cluster which is a dealer item and is very costly to repair, therefore my car has yet to be repaired. this bad cluster has also caused other system problems, gauges, heater, and traction control problems because apparently this part controls a lot of different systems. someone needs to make gm recall this cluster and do the right thing by replacing these parts and repairing these dangerous cars. *tr

First issue took place on a clear sunny day at highway speed. the speedometer at first seemed to stick as it moved up and down instead of moving normally. the speedometer jumps to extremes in speed, either substantially higher or substantially lower than actual. once the issue started, it has remained a problem. after looking into the issue, it appears this is a fairly common complaint for gm vehicles, specifically with model years 2000 - 2006. the car in question is a 2005 impala. the current recommended fix by gm seems to be to replace the instrument panel which can cost upwards of 700 dollars. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to start on several occasions without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and an independent mechanic, but the failure was unable to be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system); however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the gauges on the instrument panel did not display their proper readings. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer did not perform a diagnosis. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 120,000. the vin was not available.

The speedometer just stopped working, the transmission shift hard but when you shut off the engine and start it back up it stops shifting hard, and the car stalls. *kb

While driving horn sound weak and stopped working i had to take out fuse for the horn because it was just sounding off. another important issue while driving at night low beam headlights will turn off while driving in the dark. this can cause a serious wreck especially if you are on the highway and could kill someone. very dangerous situation. same thing with the horn, someone can pull out in front of you and you cannot blow your horn. *tr

2005 chevy impala, the speedometer sticks and gives false readings. it is impossible to know the speed the car is going. *tr

My chevy impala gauge cluster began to work inappropriately in july 2007. it started with the speedometer, i was driving to work and thought that i was going 55mph but was really going 77mph. i got a ticket and three days later the needle stopped working. two months later the temp needle and fuel needle stopped working. i continued to drive the car because the dealership where i purchased the car had closed and there was not a chevy dealership in the area. in april, 2010, my entire dash stopped working, including the message center. *tr

2005 chevorlet impala: the speedometer gains/drops speed at any given time without warning causing miscalculation of speed during travel. at first, the speedometer returned to the original state, however, after resetting the cruise control function, the unit failed to register speed properly. it has affected the maintenance and performance of the vehicle. ultimately, the rpm and speedometer gauges, cease to work properly and the car tends to skip between automatic gear shifts. also, i received a traffic ticket in the state of nc due to the speedometer malfunction. in order to fix this problem for my vehicle, 2005 chevorlet impala (mileage: 103,117k), the instrument cluster has to be uninstalled from the vehicle, rebuilt, and reinstalled back into the vehicle according to my dealer and a licensed mechanic. this repair on average ranges $400-$800 (www.carcomplaints.com). according to research, speedometer failure is a common but expensive problem among 2000-2006 chevorlet models. *tr

Steering knuckle makes a popping noise speedodometer does not work temp gauge does not work cruise control engages when ever it wants to if the switch is in the on position a herd that a lot of chevrolets had recalls for these conditions! are there any recalls for these conditions on my car? *kb

2005 chevrolet impala speedometer not working properly. it reads much faster than you are actually going, often times 40mph +. the problem started on a long trip. cycling the ignition would bring it back to zero, but that no longer works. there is not one single event that triggers the problem. it cause the driver to maintain speed either way too slow for traffic or way too fast. creating unsafe conditions. parts are available, but the parts and labor will cost a minimum of $460.00. buying a used part is not a viable option since the instrument cluster is coded to the car. a simple google search produces many thousands of complaints about this problem, yet gm will not run a recall on this. they recalled the silverado with the same problem. *tr

The passlock sensor went bad at 74000 miles. i could not start my car for up to a 1/2 hour. this happened several times. i had the pass lock sensor replaced at a cost of approximately $600. shortly after the replacement the speedometer became stuck at 60 mph. i discovered when i turned my key in the ignition the needle on the speedometer would drop. if i turned the key several times it would reset itself. i do not want to do this because i fear it will wear out the ignition switch. then the gas gauge stopped working. the needle gets stuck far beyond the full or empty line and will not budge unless i do ignition switch thing. i have to use my trip meter and guess how much fuel i have left. the "needs fuel" light is still working so far. then the temperature gauge stopped working and now the fan motor sensor is also going bad on the a/c unit. these issues should be part of a recall. i cannot afford to keep fixing this vehicle. as i understand it these problems are part of the cluster gauge system and there have been many complaints about it. *js

My 2005 impala speedometer and temperature gauge are working when they want to. i set the cruise controll at 70 mph and car seems to do fine. i dont use the cruise controll and try to hold the car at 70 mph and got a ticket for doing 82 in a 65. after getting the ticket on 12 march the speedometer after either 20 minutes of sitting or driving does not read right says below zero, then i turn car off and on to try and reset the guages work on and off.

2005 chevrolet impala. passlock security system is malfunctioning. will not allow car to start. electrical issue. no way to reset. frequently leaves driver stranded for ten to fifteen minutes. *tr

Over the past 6 months my speedometer on my 2005 chevy impala has not been working correctly. the speedometer will say that i am going 20 mph on the interstate when i am actually going 60 mph or faster. the speedometer will be at 0 mph when in town driving. i have no idea how fast i am going. the speedometer is not working 90% of the time. *tr

The speedometer in my 205 chevy impala does not show the correct speed. it shows the rate of speed at about 1/2 of what it actually is. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. while the vehicle was parked, the contact stated that she was unable to start the vehicle. she waited thirty minutes and the vehicle started. the failure occurred intermittently at first but became progressively worse and occurred more often. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where she was informed that the pass lock system was the cause of failure. she took the vehicle to the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 52,000. the current mileage was approximately 54,000.

2005 chevrolet impala. speedometer works only intermittently. sticks at zero when it isn't working. at times, when functioning, though i increase speed or decrease, needle doesn't move in timely manner thus not accurately reporting current speed; needle lags way behind changes in speed. this is dangerous as i can not determine how fast i am going, especially in areas such as school zones where others are anticipating a certain speed and i am sometimes exceeding it unknowingly leading to some close calls with me almost hitting people who pull out in front of me; if i were able to determine my speed accurately and travel at that speed there would not be these close calls. not covered by warranty due to intermittent problem not complete failure and as warranty is almost expired and will be too cost prohibitive (in excess of $800 and several weeks without a vehicle) to get it fixed after warranty ends so i will have no option but to dangerously and knowingly drive a car not able to determine my speed due to gm's failure to fix this problem that they are more than aware of as they have received multiple complaints. to me, this is a huge safety issue for myself and others i encounter on the roadway and i feel it is chevrolets responsibility to fix this problem for all of us as they used motors in the instrument cluster that are prone to failure! *tr

I have a 2005 chevy impala, the speedometer does not work. at about 80,000 miles it would say i was going 80 or 120 mph when it was actually about 60mph. now it doesn't work at all. i have no idea how fast or slow i am going. this is a safety concern for me being disabled, and i can't afford to get rid of the car right now. this should be a re-call. *tr

The speedometer is constantly inconsistent. sitting at a stoplight it reads 40?120? 75? i never know what speed im doing. i just go with the flow of traffic, and once again it reads something like 90mph. sometimes it is even pointing straight down. this has got to be a safety issue right?? i would like a response. how do i go about getting this problem fixed? i have found many complaints about this problem on the internet. this happens at all times, your form does not allow me to tell you this in the " speed at which this occurs" only allows me to put numbers. *tr

Instrument cluster has failed, speedometer does not work or is incorrect all the time. driver does not know how fast or slow they are going ,this creates numerous safety issues while driving with or with out other traffic around you. also the fuel gauge has stopped working and has ran out of fuel in major traffic. i see there have been hundred of complaints filed with nhtsa, there are even more on various websites. *tr

Speedometer began not working. *tr

On an almost continuous basis, my 2005 chevrolet impala is incapable of reporting accurate speed and gas level.. 9 out of 10 times, i have to guess how much gas i have in the tank, and how fast i am going. at least with the speedometer i can see what it reads at a stop and subtract that amount and get close to actual speed. *tr

Speedometer on 2005 impala would not go below 40mph, never returning to zero, other instruments started to fail. *tr

I have a 2005 chevrolet impala and the speedometer is not working properly. i've checked nhtsa complaints and find over and over this same complaint but was told by a chevrolet dealership this was not a recall. with the number of complaints filed this should be a recall by chevrolet instead of making the consumer pay for the repairs. in light of recent toyota recalls i would think chevrolet would take similar action for this defect in their automobiles. *tr

2005 chevrolet impala instrument cluster failure. speedometer works intermittently and temp gauge stopped working all together. gm knows the problem is defective stepper motors but has not recalled vehicles. *tr

I bought 2005 impala ss with 83,000 miles and soon after my speedometer started showing the wrong speed. i thought i was going 55 when i was pulled over for doing 77. now the needle just hangs straight down,so i started relying on my tach to guess my speed. then about 1 month later my tachometer started messing up and now it just stays between 1,500 and 2,000 rpms so i have no idea how fast or slow i'm going. now my gas gauge has messed up it showed i had 3/4 of a tank when my car quit, i thought it was some major problem till my friend talked me into putting some gas in and it started right up. now i have no idea how fast i'm going or how much gas i have. this doesn't seem right with only 85,000 miles on my car. i have seen several complaints on the impala instrument clusters so why doesn't chevrolet do something about it? is it the money it would cost, or the money they would lose with all of us having to replace them with another faulty cluster? *tr

Speedometer on 2005 impala just quit working. wont move past 0. so many complaints..... *tr

2005 chevrolet impala speedometer goes wacky at intermittent times. i was going 65 mph speedo showed 40mph. other times i could be stopped at a red light, speedo shows going 50mph. this can lead to a very dangerous condition. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. while driving speeds ranging from approximately 35 mph or more, the speedometer and the temperature gauges displayed inaccurate readings regardless of the speed being traveled. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction at this time. the failure mileage was 100,000. updated 02/10/11 *bf

My chevrolet impala 2005 started running hot and leaking water took to chevrolet here in fort pierce they replace the water pump hoses and belts but the car temp gauge is still going into the red on the dash, so i took it back they said that they could've find nothing that was wrong with the car now the ignition sticks and the car won't start, security light comes on, i'm thinking that there's a electrical problem with this car and i wanting to report the problem i'm having.

With approximately 100,000 miles on 2005 impala speedometer started to falsely report vehicle speed when driving for more then 3 hours. this has occurred approximately 5 times. stopping and turning off the vehicle will resolve the issue. *tr

On my grandfathers 2005 chevrolet impala the gauge cluster stops working. it first started with the water temp gauge. and now the speedometer works intermittently. its definitely a safety issue because you don't know how fast your going. and after typing the problem into google.com their are other owners of impalas who have the same problem. the car only has 51k miles on it. im currently looking online for a reasonable gauge cluster so i can replace it. i feel a recall is in order since this isn't a localized problem. thank you for your time. *tr

The instrument cluster in my 2005 chevy impala experiences periodic malfunctions. the speedometer will read significantly over the actual speed or will remain at zero. the fuel and temperature gauges also read incorrectly. my research indicates that these are common complaints for 2000 to 2006 chevy vehicles yet no recall has been announced. this is a safety hazard that should be addressed through a recall. *tr

I have a 2005 chevrolet impala ls v6 3800 series.the volume of the horn was fluctuating after about 3 years & now it could hardly be heard. i never had a horn that wears out,i believe it is defective & is a safety hazard. lou bachrodt's chevrolet 954-247-3000 had me wit until i hung up,they would fix it only if i paid to replace it. *tr

Purchase one owner 2005 impala -5-09. previous owner reported intermittent fuel gauge reading as only problem, now temp gauge has quit, fuel gauge has quit, speedometer works intermittently. dealer price to repair $650 to $750. guess i'll tear out the dash and send cluster for repair. *tr

Speedometer not working , sometimes it will read 80mph stopped & not running. or you could be going 50 & actual y going 80 & get a ticket , this has happen to us 5 or 6 times within the last 2 weeks, i have read a lot of other people with the same problem. my car has less than 85, 000 miles. do we not make quality cars & trucks in the good old u.s.a. ??? maybe i should have bought a kia with 100, 0000 miles warranty bumper to bumper ? thank-u for u time. *tr

2005 chevy impala often times the vehicle will not start. when this happens the security light on the dash blinks, and, after i wait about 10 minutes, it will start. upon searching the internet for a solution it is obvious that gm knows there are problems with their "pass-lock" anti theft system but will not acknowledge it or repair it for anyone. my mechanic replaced the battery and found no other problems. suggests i take it to gm dealer. *tr

2002 chevrolet impala passlock problem, won't start and security light is on(page 1 of 4 it is defective. *tr

My 2005 chevy impala speedometer went out. i have searched the internet, and this is a very common problem. vehicle is less than 5 years old with under 75k miles. speedometer stepper motor is defective. needs dealership recall to replace since such a common problem. *tr
