Driving down the road with my high beams on, my headlights went out completely. my low beams work ok but if i use high beams they randomly go out. this is the second gm vehicle i have had with this problem. the mechanic at the gm dealership said 4 of his 6 family members have had same problem. a former co-worker had same problem. i contacted gm and was told my car was to old for them to fix it... *tr

I haven't been physically hurt because of this ignition switch re-call but it has made me displaced for days on end because the car wouldn't start. i've missed work on more than one occasion and then i'm being told by gm that the part isn't built, there isn't enough to go around, it's like what are we as gm owners suppose to do until the part and then wait to see for the chevy house to call to replace the part. why should i have to be displaced and disheveled but i won't be compensated unless i'm hurt? this makes no sense i didn't ask for my car to have issues of this sort but yet i'm missing time off of work because the work won't crank. what can be done about my issue even though i'm not physically hurt? *tr

Pursuant to the letter i got in regard to recall 14350, i contacted the dealer where i bought my car, jim butler chevrolet. i got an email back from them saying the only recall they show on my car is 13036, and they will only schedule me for that service. i verified the vin on your website, and 14350 is indeed correct. note that i have contacted this dealer repeatedly over the past two to three years, because my car won't start after i shut it off when it isn't in park. it's left me stranded more than 20 times (which is dangerous in itself, plus i had to call for road service, which isn't free), and the service manager has so far refused to take any action and in fact did not even return my many phonecalls about it. now they can't even get the safety recall number straight (until i let them know i'd be contacting you, suddenly, it is the right number). this is why people are dying: dealers ignore reported problems because it costs gm money; they stonewall you until you die in a crash or die standing by your car waiting for the tenth tow. thanks to gm, i am done buying american cars. please investigate this common impala non-starting issue (search online: it's not the starter, and i've already paid to replace the ignition, but they still won't give me my key codes). *tr

I have had issues with lights for the past 6 months. first started out where if i had my bright lights on every now and again all my lights would go off while driving. the bright lights wouldn't stay on so had to hold to keep them on. then it came a period of time where all my lights would not work. on friday, june 27th 2014, i was at work and happened to look out the window and noticed my lights were on. went outside to see if car was dead. when i got in the car i could see that my steering column was smoking (on fire) coming from the turn signal switch. the bright lights had stuck to on somehow and this is why i could see that my llights were on. i unhooked the battery and the smoking stopped. when i went to hook battery back up there wasn't any more smoking but my windshield wipers were going as fast as they could and i couldn't switch or do anything to make them stop. the hazards or all my lights were blinking on/off repeatedly. nothing i could do to stop. as of now i'm driving without any fuse to the wipers and the lights work during the daytime but will not work at all after dark. i've been told the part that is needed to replace this is a multi-functional switch. however, this is going to cost $800 to replace. many complaints out there about the same thing happening to same year/make/model car and no recall?? *js

On the night of april 24, 2014 at approximately 10:30 pm i had just got off work and went to start my car and it would not start i got a message displayed on the control panel which says security after sitting about 30 minutes in the rain and cold it started up then i got home and turn it off then tried to turn it back on and it would not start it show security on the dashboard i have reviewed a couple sites on the internet and a lot of people having this problem with chevrolet impala's from 2000 to 2004 i think that's a big concern being a electric problem because you can be in the middle-of-the-road and a car just cuts off and will not start back up. *tr

I was driving on the highway thinking i was doing 80 mph and traffic was passing me. when i exited the highway and came to a stop my speedometer still said i was doing 30 mph. from that point on it went haywire. when i am at a stop it now says i am doing 60 mph and when i start to move forward it jumps to 120 mph. i have no idea how fast i am going. i have read hundreds of complaints for the same thing. the cost to repair is close to $500.00. this is obviously a safety issue and is a widespread problem. should be a recall. *tr

I went out to start my impala to get ready for work. unlock my doors as i normally do, and proceed to start the car. it is the chevy key that comes with the car. anyway, i turn the key and nothing, all i get on my dash is the flashing security light. so i went back inside and done some research while on the phone with my supervisor letting him know that i was going to be late. turns out, this is a common problem with the impala of my body style, the ignition switch or the pass lock module. very inconvenient, this is the 5th or 6th time this has happened, really hurts when you have kids with you and its hot or cold outside. this issue needs to be looked into! *tr

first of all my security light flashed on and off several months before, and then it stayed on right before these times my car would not start. i was out of town at the hospital.went to start my impala and it wouldn't start. i had to wait 20 minutes and it started up and ran perfect. got home ,shut the car off ,went back out to go to the store and it wouldn't start again.waited 10 minutes ,still would not work.waited another 15 minutes ,car started. went to the store. came out of the store started right up. went home shut the car off ,next morning had my husband try and start the car.it started right up . so i thought everythings ok . got in my car to go to the doctor would not start. waited 30 minutes started. that's were i'm at now . i was told while im driving my car it might shut down and cause me to wreck , it has something to do with the security passlock system.i've read a lot about other 2004 chevy impalas doing this also.should'nt gm do a recall before someone gets killed. *tr

Unsure if my 04 impala is affected in the takata recall because i haven't received notice.have recently had extensive repairs completed by a certified mechanic. and the abs, trac, check and brake lights won't go off. the security light continues to come on and disables the car not allowing it to start. causing me the be stranded unannounced and at any random time. steering wheel tightens and loosens at random times. after researching past recalls before my ownership i am unsure if my car has had the recall issues addressed. my car has some type of manufacturer computer glitch but gmc doesn't want to own up to it. and i've kept all receipts on repairs i've covered. these issues have been on going since the estimated date entered below.

I own a 2004 chevrolet impala an in february while driving up tha high way my keys just like popped out of the ignition my car lost power and i hit the guard rail at 60 mph my air bags didn't come out. me n my girlfriend was in the car . on july 1st i find out there's a recall on my car i tried contacting a few chevrolet dealership companies near me an i've been denied any car repairs. *tr

My mechanic has been doing a lot of work on this car for the past month trying to figure out why my car completely powers off if i am driving on the road. after taking the diagnostic test again for the 3rd time it says we need two 02 sensors replaced and a new mass airflow sensor. once we turned the key into the ignition the car began to smoke and burst into flames we pulled the keys out of the ignition and the fire department arrived and tried to put the fire out but gas leaked out and made a huge fire. the car tried to start up and we did not have the keys in the car the fire department had to cut my car battery out because it would not go out. fortunately my fiance' and i made it out of the car alive. with all of the money i have been putting into this car to have it fixed and it catches on fire this makes me not want to ever purchase another chevy car in my life and i am only 22 years old. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the vehicle would shake vigorously when the brakes were applied. the failure occurred while driving various speeds. the dealer replaced all four brakes, rotors, and tires and performed an alignment; however, the failure recurred. in addition, the vehicle would fail to restart when turned off for thirty minutes or longer. the starter was replaced twice, but this did not remedy the failure. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 161,000.

The key switch is bad some times after it is started all dash is not working and security system is locked and you have to shut it down some times more then once have been told the key switch is bad i ask someone at g.m. if they could send me the switch but told me i had to take it to a shop did that and all that was done is put a piece of something in the key that did not help that the switch is bad is there any one that can help or just send me a switch i can put it in. *tr

2004 chevrolet impala dealer has not received part for recall *cn the consumer stated in december 2013, he began to experience a problem while driving on the interstate at 65 mph. the vehicle would lose power, including the speedometer dropping to zero. a local repair shop inspected the vehicle, and informed the consumer, the speedometer in the cluster had apparently gone bad. the cluster was replaced. however, the problem happened again. the consumer went to another shop and they stated the speed control sensor was not functioning properly. the part was replaced and the problem did not return. *jb

As i am driving my car today in a 25 mph zone, i realize that my speedometer displays the speed of 105. after reading through several forums today i am shocked at the number of people who have the same problem on a 2004 impala. my car has 40,000 miles on it and is in excellent condition. i can't believe that now i have to pay around $600 to have something fixed that clearly should be a recall. are you kidding me? how many complaints/problems with the same parts justifies a recall? come on gm, get your act together!!! *tr
