There are 3 recalls i have found that possibly are effecting my 2003 impala but because my specific vin # doesn't fall under any of these gm is refusing to fix these problems. 1)the body control module needs to be reset. apparently when it goes out the cruise control disengages.....and my cruise control light is on but won't engage. plus my mechanic says the body control module also is what is could be causing my heater fan to not work nor my information display to work. but low and behold when the cruise control light goes off they both work 2) there is a recall stating drops of engine oil may leak on exhaust manifold with hard braking and i sometimes smell oil burning after i drive. if it was my actual engine leaking oil i would smell it all the time but i don't it's just after i drive certain places that are very congested and i brake a lot 3) there is a fuel vapor leak from the gas tank which is believed to be causing my check engine light to come on. it throws the code stating i need to possible replace the gas cap (which i have done) and only comes on after i have put gas in the car. i'm alittle concerned and applaud that just because my vin # doesn't show these recalls but impalas are having these recalls that gm won't fix these problems. *tr

At slow speeds after considerable driving distances, on two occasions, engine turned off, leaving no power for drive or steering. car re-started both times. no recurrence to date after ignition switch was replaced on 5/27/14. *js

May 16, 2014 at 6:30 am i parked the car in my driveway after taking my husband to work. i locked the doors after exiting the vehicle with my keys in hand. i was in my home at about 6:42 am when my neighbor began banging on my door and yelling that the car was on fire, i took a look out of the window and came down to get a closer look, stunned there was smoke everywhere and flames under the hood. i immediately called 911 they came it took a good bit of time putting the fire out.i spoke to the firefighters after and he said he believed it"s origin was electrical. we received a quote to repair, replace the engine coolant tube on may 6,2014 from tire discounters and my plan was to drop the car off the morning of 5/16. my husband and i are both heart patients and the loss of this car was devastating. i also would like to add that we had just purchased this vehicle on april 6, 2014 . the car is a total loss. we have the quote from tire discounters, video and pictures from the fire and the report from the incident. i pray for others that didn't learn of this recall in time with tragic results and i am grateful no loss of life occurred here but the pain of trying to get to appointments and getting my husband back and forth to work at honeywell begins again. thank you for your ear. *tr updated 12/11/2014 *js

My car will not start properly. the security light will flash several times but the engine will not turn over. sometimes the security light will just stay on and it will turn over. this has caused a lot of problems for me. i have two children and we end up stuck places for 10, 20, or 30 minutes, up to an hour. i have taken it to the dealership and they wanted $400. to fix the security chip and the key shaft because that is what is making the security system mess up. well now there is a recall on my car with the key, but they will not fix the chip for free and i do not have money to spend on it! *tr

I was driving on the back roads at the speed limit of 55mph when the car started to jerk violently. i didn't know what was going on so i let off the gas and hit the brakes a little. i was able to come to a stop safely, but the jerking was dangerous as it propelled me into the oncoming traffic when i was on a curve. i don't feel safe driving the car now. the car shows no codes and no warning signals. i think it has something to do with the transmission, but i am not sure. i read many others with transmission problems and i think this is more dangerous than people think and it should be recalled if its a known problem. i don't know what to do. *tr

When i attempt to start the vehicle, the security light flashes, radio locks up and the car stalls. after reading the manual and contacting a dealer, i was advised to turn the key into the on position and wait for the security light to stop flashing, then start the car. the first time this happened it took over an hour for the car to start. the second time, it took over an hour as well. this is the third time and im on day 2 of leaving the key in the on position and nothing is happening. i contacted the dealer again and at first i was told i needed to bring it in for a security system reset. then i was told that i need to replace bcm without anyone actually looking at my car. after researching online, there are several complaints regarding this same issue on model 2000-2005. gm is clearly aware of this defect but refuse recall. those that have paid over $500 to fix replace the bcm are still having the same issue. can gm be held accountable for the flaw that they are aware of yet charging people hundreds of dollars to fix a part that may not be broken? *tr

Head gasket failure cost of repair $1800.00. *tr

Engine accelerates to 3,000 rpm during warm up (sometimes). usually occurs about five minutes after cold start. has lasted 10 to 15 minutes while driving. has not repeated during same day and not happen again for days or weeks during the past five months. replaced ecm (computer), iac (idle air control), coolant temp. sensor and cleaned throttle body. dealer cannot suggest solution. unable to get car to dealer while problem is happening. scanned for dtcs multiple times, none. controlling speed with brake is not a good solution. safety hazard! *tr the consumer stated when the body control module failed, the key fob would not work, the engine would not start, the interior lights would not come on and the head light would not turn off. the consumer had to disconnect the battery, in order to turn the head lights off. after reconnecting the battery, everything returned to normal. the bcm was replaced. updated 03/19/13

Car will not start, especially when it is hot inside the car. no lights go on - nothing. have replaced key, key cylinder (twice), and ignition switch. next step is to replace bcm, but not sure if that will solve issue. in researching similar issues people have bypassed the security system to the bcm so car will start. we have not done this bypass. *js

I have had incidents several times over the years where i would hit a bump in the road and my car would completely shut off. i have also had several incidents where i was traveling down the expressway and my car turned off on me. i had to shift my car into neutral and restart it to continue going. i was fortunate not to have an accident. *tr

The car would accelerate and then stall out. the motor would vibrate like it was jumping. hard to start die after putting into drive. had to replace the transmission and converter in 2011, spark plugs and wires have been changed. the car has blown sensors a month after getting it out of the shop. have spent over 6000 dollars trying to keep the car running and the same thing keeps happening. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet impala. the contact received a recall notification for nhsta campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). while driving 10-20 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated. the failure contributed to six crashes. two police reports were filed. the contact's husband sustained injuries to the neck and back and received medical attention. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic, but the results of the diagnostic test were unknown. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 105,000.

My passlock system has been malfunctioning for years now (2007-2015) and at random intervals, my car will not start and i have to wait 15 minutes before the engine will start. sometimes the "security" light will turn on while i am operating the vehicle and after i have parked it, the security light will flash and i can't start the engine until after the 15 minute cycle has concluded. not only has this issue been an inconvenience, but i have had occasions where it has put me in danger. i am not responsible for the passlock system failure, nor do i have the funds to repair or remove it. i believe that passlock was a faulty system from the beginning and the fact that it has not been recalled shocks me. i am very afraid that one day the passlock system malfunction will occur when the vehicle is in motion and that i will lose power steering, braking, and other vital operational functions. noticeably, the passlock malfunction has become more frequent, so i needed to file this complaint. i have talked to service experts at my local chevy dealership and they have told me on more than one occasion that this issue is widespread, including many gm vehicles, and that eventually my car just won't start anymore. the quoted prices to fix this issue (either repairing it or removing it entirely) have been ridiculously high and i don't understand why i should be forced into paying for a well-known gm/chevrolet problem.
