I have a 2002 impala and the same problem as everyone else. my blinkers will randomly stop working. when i push the hazard lights on and off 3 or 4 times the blinkers start to work again. *tr

Defective exterior light switch multi-function switch) on 2002 chevrolet impala. this light switch becomes defective without warning and is a safety hazard. current models come equipped with automatic headlights which come on at dusk (or in darkened conditions) however this defect does not provide any warning that this automatic function has failed and the manual light switch is also disabled by the same defect. *jb

About 9 months ago high beams would go out completely (no lights at all) until hit lever. got worse until no headlights at all. took to dealer and charged me $629.66 for a multi function switch. advised gm of nhtsa peo6017 but their response was that gm would not cover due to age (2002) and mileage (107,200). *tr

The consumer states the turn signals fail intermittently. the cause has yet to be determined. please provide additional information.. *nm the consumer stated that the signals operate through the hazard warning switch. *tc

Going down the road the lights went off. consumer touched the turn signal and the lights came on. vehicle was taken to the mechanic and the dimmer switch was replaced.*ak

When changing the lights from high beam to low beam the lights go completely off. this happens intermittently. this has been reported to the manufacturer, however, the warranty on the vehicle has expired.*ak the dealer replaced the headlight switch. *nm

While driving on a two lane highway dashboard lights and head lights went out without. the consumer hit the dimmer switch and the lights came back on. the occurred again before the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer replaced a module in the steering column. thus far, the failure had not recurred. *ak *sc

While driving at any speed brake lights and turn signals failed. *ak

The consumer states the head light lenses produced condensation. as a result, the lights were dim. *jb water was getting into the headlights and there was a front and rear alignment problem. as a result of these two problems, there was poor night vision and the tires needed to be replaced. *sc *jb

2002 impala turn signals work intermittently. very dangerous! has been going on for 4-5 years. out of warranty. don't have money to repair. *tr

Bought the car from a relative. has had the problem the entire time i owned it. i was told to just never use the high beams. they don't stay on anyway. i recently spoke to a chevrolet mechanic that stated that almost all impalas that come in on trade have a defective headlight dimmer switch. $300-400 repair. i have no high beams. switch has been bad entire time. but if every impala that comes into the dealership has this issue why is there no recall. i ask every impala owner to file a complaint. especially since sometimes the lights just go out, which may cause an accident. lets get this taken care of. especially since gm knows of the problem and is doing nothing to address it. also have the problem with the wipers going to the full up position when turning them off. heard this is also a common problem. *tr

2002 chevrolet impala ls - headlights/dash lights will intermittently blink on and off while coasting/decelerating. i have brought the car to the dealer twice for repair and they claim this is "normal." this condition is distracting to me and other drivers, and i consider it a serious safety defect. *la

When driving at night it was very difficult to see the road. consumer made contact with the dealership about this issue, and mechanic informed consumer that the headlights were wearing out prematurely. *ak

While driving headlights suddenly stopped working this caused driver to have no visibility while driving at night. *ak over a period of a week, headlights would go out for a few seconds and come back on without any action of the consumer. *ph

i wanted him to check my driver side back door because it wouldn't open very easily at times, and the window to that same door would not open at times. also, my trunk wouldn't open when one would use the trunk release button at times. i also had him check my dimming headlights, my steering which had a jerk in it when i went around curves, clicking sound in engine and an over all check since my warranty is about to run out in 1,000 miles. turn out-after leaving the dealer my air conditioner was humming like a helicopter, my brakes were horrible and grinding and the car feels like it has no get up and go power. i took my car to brake check after leaving because when the dealer did the overall check of my car they said i needed a front brake job. and they wanted to charge me over 200.00 dollars. the dealer told me it was not covered under my warranty. well brake check took off all four tires and found that my problem was due to left and right caliper problems on the inboard side and left rear hard wear problems and wear on the outboard side. the caliper is engaging but not disengaging and caused my pads to wear out and my rotors are ate up. the pads are not worn evenly which is definitely a sign of caliper problems. also, the dealer upon the overall inspection of my car said that my intake gaskets were ruined and leaking coolant. they said they replaced them, however i am afraid that there is further damage to my vehicle that they are not telling me, just like my brakes. due to the fact that steve at lone star told me that it was caused due to lack of oils changes and gil said it was a problem with the gaskets being improperly seated from the factory or just a defect in the gasket. well is this why my car has no get up anymore? my car also made a grinding sound when hitting bumps under the right front fender area that nothing was done about and my headlight problem they said was due to a faulty battery cable. *nlm

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and without warning the headlights will flicker causing a distraction to the consumer view during nighttime. dealer notified ts

Lights will all of a sudden keep going from sharp to dim -mcguire chevrolet is aware of the problem but tell me that they do not know how to correct it. seems to be a foolish answer to me since the car has been out for a full year and by now general motors should have recalled the car and fixed the problem. mr

Headlights flicker on and off in pulsating fashion while coasting, braking or stopped. the flickering does not occur while accelerating. 2002 impala ls, sport edition, 3.8l v-6. this car was taken to the dealership just after purchase, richard lucas, in avenel, nj. they were not able to recreate the problem. the car was then taken to a dealership in racine, wi - frank boucher. the first time, they were unable to recreate the problem and gave me a "bulletin" advising dimming of lights was normal. this isn't dimming, it's flickering. plus - i was pulled over by a police officer who thought i was playing with my headlights. i took it back to the dealership, frank boucher, and they contacted gm tech services. they checked a few things including the air pump. then - by using the tech ii tool, they were able to recreate the flcikering by switching the air pump on. however, the response from gm tech services is, they have no information on the problem, have never received a complaint about it and there is no "fix". they have also stated that there is no proposed fix. now i read here there are three other complaints of the same problem. what can be done? gm won't do anything stating it is normal - but it is not normal. if i am pulled over by a police officer, this is not normal.

While driving and parked, headlights will pulsate and dim to half the brightness. this is very distracting, annoying, and un-nerving because it causes the car in front of you to believe you are flashing your lights at them. i have complained about this problem 3 times since i first bought it in april 2002. dealer states they can't fix the problem, won't try and it's normal. this was not disclosed to me when i bought the vehicle otherwise had i known, i wouldn't have bought it. *jb

My 2002 chevy impala ls has had a problem, since buying it in may 2002, with the headlights dimming to the point of cutoff then coming back to full intensity in a rapid fashion. i have had the alternator, battery, belts, cables/wires checked but to no avail. i do notice that if i accelerate sharply, over 3000 rpm, the problem goes away for a while, suggesting there is a charging problem. this problem is intermittent, but is increasing in frenquency as my odo reaches 23,000 miles.

Headlight filling with water vapor degrading quality of light. *jb
