Problems with 2010 Chevrolet HHR STEERING

Driving down interstate 30 when power steering light came on. when pulling over noticed power steering not working. hard to steer in cornering. been a week not working. taking to shop tomorrow. *tr

As traveling down the interstate i59 the warning chime sounded and the power steering error showed on the dash. power steering was lost until auto was shut down and restarted. this is coming and going as the vehicle is driven. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet hhr. the contact stated that the power steering light illuminated on the instrument panel and the steering wheel seized. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. the vehicle was inspected by a mechanic, who stated that the electronic power assist module was failing. the vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. the failure and current mileages were 15,000.

I was driving my vehicle and suddenly dic displayed "power steering", and the steering became very hard to turn. i pulled over, turned off the vehicle and waited for a minute, then i restarted the vehicle & was working fine. then five minutes after the dic displayed "power steering". now i have to take my car to the mechanic and pay for the repair. it is my understanding that the hhr & chevrolet cobalt have the same similar power steering system, and a recall for the chevrolet cobalt has been issued. why not for the chevrolet hhr? thanks. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet hhr. the contact stated that the power steering assist failed and the steering became difficult to turn. the power steering warning light illuminated before the failure occurred. the failure was experienced numerous times and the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. a diagnostic was performed which was unable to locate a failure code. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the approximate current mileage was 42,000.

Driving on interstate doing 65 mph, power steering indicator went off and lost my power steering. since the first time, it continues to do the same thing, sometimes 1-2/day sometimes too many times to count in one trip. i have to turn the car off and restart for the power steering to work again. *js

The starter is messed up, it wont ignite back so i can turn my car off. i went to the dealership amd they did nothing. *tr

On 1/13/2012 while on a road trip, i lost the power steering to my hhr and the dic displayed "power steering". i immediately pulled the car off the road, turned it off, and looked under the hood to see if i could find any problems with the belts. nothing was found and i restarted the engine and the problem was gone. two weeks later, the problem has returned. turning off the engine and restarting it will resolve the problem for a short time, then once driving, the power steering goes out again. the power steering motor in the hhr is the same model noted in the recall for the 2010 chevy cobolt noted in nhtsa action number: pe10005. there are many complaints of this same issue all over the internet. while i intend to have the problem repaired, it is imperative that investigation for this particular issue is considered as the colbolt and hhr share the same frame and are almost identical in schematic makeup. *tt

While driving apx. 25mph the warning "ding sound" came on & the display read "power steering". by putting the car in neutral and turning the key off & turning it back on & putting in drive, it temporarily remedies the problem but not for long. sometimes this has to be done 15-20 times. this is driving in town or interstate, it makes no difference. we purchased the car in july 30, 2011 with 45k miles on it. eight months later, we started having this problem. i've seen many forums with the same complaint and feel that there definitely needs to be a recall on this model. this is dangerous and sounds like a malfunction from the manufacturer and they should step up and recall. this needs to be investigated immediately! *tr *js

I've been having the same problem as the 29 other noted complaints on this site, have had. power steering works fine one minute then warning chime sounds, power steering msg. appears at the same time steering goes out. i have to reset it by turning off and on the ignition switch. some times it happens at various times in a day, to nothing for a few months. i was kinda hoping the problem fixed itself, but hah, wishful thinking on my part, cause it's doing it again. how many more complaints has to happen before this problem is recalled?? i really like the car otherwise. *tr

Power steering went out at 42,000 purchased vehicle at 38,500 miles. vehicle is all electric power steering. *tr

I was driving down a busy street when my car starting beeping(warning chime) and the power steering light came on. i went to pull my car over to the next side street and found it very difficult to do so. i found i could turn my car off and wait 30 sec and the steering would come back, but within 3 min. i would lose it again and i would have to keep repeating the process. this has happened multiple times. the car is now at the dealer for repair. the steering is unsafe in this car. *tr

When driving the power steering stops functioning and the steering becomes difficult to turn. when the car is turned off and restarted the power steering is operative for a short time and then fails again.

At low speeds in a sharp turn and/or on bumpy roads and sometimes during breaking at high speed, i notice a rattle in the steering column. i told the dealer that i thought my front rotors may be worn but they checked out ok. i think its the electric steering column box with a worn nylon bushing the same as the g6 steering problems. because my mileage went over 36000 and this problem was not initially diagnosed as a steering problem and not being a power train problem, chevy indicated that its not covered under warranty and there is no recall for this issue. my parents have an 07 hhr that is having overheating issues in their power-steering, along with the back lashing in the column caused by, i think, the nylon bushing going bad. *tr

Since purchasing this vehicle as a rental return, there have been repeated incidents where the electronic stability control (esc) activates while traveling straight on dry pavement at speeds between 15 and 30 mph. the vehicle briefly loses steering and pulls to the right while brake is involuntarily activated. after turning the car off and restarting, the car continues normally. fortunately, this has not yet caused an accident. the dealer has variously attributed the problem to mismatched tires (replaced with all new), bad hubs (both replaced), bad speed sensors (replaced), bad alignment (fixed) and a wrongly calibrated steering position sensor (re-calibrated). the vehicle has been towed, repaired repeatedly, and the problem is back again. this needs to be elevated to a recall. *tr
