While traveling a major interstate highway to work, i began to merge onto the exit ramp. while downshifting my manual transmission, the clutch suddenly lost tension and went through the floor. i had to coast down the exit ramp, coast along another road before pulling into a parking space. when i looked under the hood to see what happened, i realized that the clutch had come loose from and broken through the firewall. i was fortunate not to have had an accident when this happened.

I parked my vehicle ay home, and when i went to get out, the inside door handle broke right off. the only way to get out was to roll down the electric window and reach out to the outside door handle. from some research i did this breaking off is a common problem. what i was concerned about if for some reason like an accident i couldn't get the window down, i would be stuck in the vehicle.

Front and rear bumpers are peeling bad. no other part of car is doing so. *tr

The inside driver's door handle broke off (plastic or other nonmetal material attached to a metal hinge)at the metal hinge. (cheap materials that fatigue easily) with no excess force or abnormal pressure being applied. i was unable to exit the vehicle without engaging the electrical system to roll down the window and operate the outside handle. in an accident, this would be a serious safety hazard if the driver needed to get out of the car quickly. *tr

The drivers door will not open. have to climb over the console to get in and out of the car. *tr

At a red light and was rear ended which cause me to it the rear end of the car in front of me. *tr

I was driving in the right lane going westbound approaching a stop light when i applied my brakes it did not slow down,i pressed the brake hard an car kept going into the rear of a truck that was stopping at the light. my car was not stopping. like it had no control. the airbags did not deploy. im concerned that the ignition turned off when i went over some pot holes in the road. my car is one of the vehicles on the recall list for the ignition switch, i had replaced ignition switch months ago due to same problem. what are my options to get this problem resolved? *tr

Fuel leak in front of drivers side rear wheel. this is completely unacceptable in an 8 year old vehicle. the fuel line corroded and leaked heavily, cost me $254.22 to replace this faulty gas line. i am obviously not the only person this has happened to. i have also had all the other typical problems such as the key will not release from ignition, bad rotors, loose front end bushings and excessive front end vibration over typical street cracks. broken drivers side interior door handle, cracked windshield...... *tr updated 10/22/2014 *js

Both driver side and passenger side front inner door mechanism levers have broken making my vehicle only able to exit by rolling my window down and opening door with outside handle, the repair is almost 1000.00 for the 2 doors with labor and i had a mechanic look at inner door and determine mechanism lever is made out of fiber glass/plastic material which with any amount of exertion will break in freezing temperatures. i live in illinois. *tr

Drivers side door handle broke off. *tr

In 2010 the inside door handle on the drivers side of my hhr broke and fell down inside the door. the only way to open the door is to open the window and open the door from the outside. i had the it replaced at coughlin chevrolet dealership in circleville ohio.. in november of 2013, the door latches broke on the front drivers side and the passingers side. if we use the car we have to drive with the windows down so that we could get out if . the dealership told me that this is common on hhr.. if an accident happen, we could be trapped in the car. there should be a recall on this. *js

There was no accident this is a big safety concern, with the door handle made out of plastic and after research hundreds of complaints. *tr

I drove my hhr to work. parked. went to get out and the driver side door handle felt soft and the door would not open. to get it open i had to use the outside door handle. i have read online about other hhr owners experiencing the same failure of the door latch. while the handle remained intact, the latch is not working to open the door. couple this with the now twice failure of the powersteering module at a whopping 875.00 each time i have begun to regret my decision to purchase this vehicle and this is the car that i really wanted. *tr

Contact reported that door locks would not operate with key fob nor when activating the door lock switches on the door. took vehicle to two different dealers trying to get the ignition recall fixed which took a total of four visits. while car was in for recall, addressed an unrelated electrical solenoid problem and asked the dealer to look at the door lock issue. dealer notified owner that passenger door and rear seat left and right door lock actuators had failed (3 of 4 total). asked dealer if they had seen this unusual condition on any other hhr's and they said no. showed them the 30+ issues logged on this site and they only commented that the hhr was not the best gm product ever built but there was no dealer fix for this issue. contact was advised that it would be $340 per door to fix and service was declined (after $80 diagnostic charge to verify that door locks did not work). *tr

Water intrusion when raining leaks on electrical components like blower motor , wiring, insulation, and floor of passenger side ..once the water corrodes the electrical components they stop working... gm corp has this problem for over 20 years on several models and makes.. very bad design..they will not recall .. this can be serious safety issue .. if the electrical defrost motor will not work .. then you cannot see out the windshield.. crash can ensue.. they need to change the water evacuation system from below the windshield...see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnykjlhusxi this is about others who have had this problem with many gm models... *tr

The inside driver & passenger front door handles broke off when attempting to exit the vehicle after it was parked. have previously filed a complaint approximately 3 years ago for the same problem. *tr

Chevrolet hhr's have a tsb on the rear liftgate not opening. it is faulty and many complaints i have found via google. if a child or animal is trapped in the rear they cannot get out, there is no pull lever to open the liftgate. they would have to climb over the seats to get out during a potential fire. *tr

I parked my car and went to open the door, the door handle broke off in my hand. because i was so shocked by this happening it took me a few minutes to realize i could roll down the window and open the door from the outside. if this happened to someone during/after an accident it could have serious consequences. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet hhr. the contact stated that the front driver and passenger's side door handles were fractured. the dealer was made aware of the failure and stated that the door panel on both doors would have to be replaced. additionally, the vehicle stalled while driving approximately 20 mph. the contact also experienced difficulty steering on another occasion. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet hhr. the contact stated that the the front driver's side interior door handle fractured. the same failure occurred on the front passenger's side door one year prior to the recent failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the door handles needed to be replaced, but the parts were on a national back order. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure and current mileages were 88,000.

About 4 month ago the door handle on the front inside passenger side broke for no particular reason. there was no force when about to open door and the handle just stayed in my hand. i called chevy dealer to see if i could just buy the handle, i was told that i would have to buy the whole panel which was about $400.dlls with installation. i can't afford that amount on jus a plastic door handle(for some reason i always thought it was metal.) i try not to sit anybody on front inside passenger seat because i'm afraid that god forbid i get in to an accident, my front passenger would not be able to get out. i really think gm should of make the handles of metal, but since their are plastic and obviously defected then they should of at least make the handle separated from panel so that we the buyers could buy it for a reasonable price. *tr

This is the second time in two years and 7 months that the door handle (inside driverside front) has broken. the door handle is made of some type plastic. this is not only a expensive to replace at the dealer, it is also a safety hazard in getting out of the vehicle if there were an accident. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet hhr. while parked, the contact attempted to exit the vehicle when the driver's side door handle fractured and became detached from the vehicle. several weeks later, the failure occurred on the passenger's side door handle as well. the contact stated that months later she experienced issues with the key becoming stuck in the ignition while the vehicle was powered on and off. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 75,000. the vin was unavailable.

About 6 months ago the inside driver side door handle broke off so we cannot exit the car without lowering the window and reaching out side of car and opening it with the outside handle. about 1 month ago the inside passenger door handle broke off in the same way there have been times when i stop the car, take my keys from the ignition and then realize i cannot open my door, so have to reinsert my key to turn the car on enough to allow for the power windows to go down, so i can reach out and open my door from the outside of the car. there have been a few occasions that i have rolled my window back up and locked and exited my car forgetting that i had put my keys back in to power the windows, when i return my keys are locked in my car and the battery is dead....this is very frustrating! and this happened this morning with the exception that the front door didn't lock. i got inside shut the door, realized that once again i had left my keys inside( because of having to reinsert to roll the window down to get out) began to start my car and the battery was dead so i could not open the door by rolling the window down, nor unlock the back doors because the locks did not work due to the battery being drained! so this is not a mere inconvenience anymore it is a serious safety issue!imagine being trapped in your car! please help us because we are being told there is no recall on this even though there are many reports on the internet, and there is a safety recall on a latch of a compartment on the dash, which is nothing compared to this issue...the cost of repair is completely un- reachable for us also...this should be fixed at the cost of the car manufacturer...our car is less than 6 years old and wear and tear might be the case if it was 1 handle not both!! thank you! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet hhr. the contact stated that the driver side interior door handle fractured and the contact had to open the door from the exterior door handle. the contact did not take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis or repairs. the contact stated the entire driver side door panel needed to be replaced. the failure mileage was 69,000.

We bought this car in 2011. in the first year of having our hhr, the inside door handles on the driver and passenger sides are broken. the driver side broke first and about 4 months later the passenger side broke. the rear hatch door latch went out about 6 months after buying this car. the lot where we bought it says al of the fixes are our problem. but, they add up to, to much money for us to fix. i have been researching these problems. there are way to many hhr's with the same problem not to have recalls on. why has there not been any as of yet? these problems are safety issues. they should be recalling the parts and replacing them. *tr

After getting home one day i went to open the drivers side door and the part of the door handle that attached to the wire that works to open the door broke. the door will no longer open from the inside. i must roll down my window and reach outside to use the outer handle. i was told that the cost to repair the handle is $400, this seems to be because entire door frame need to be replaced. apparently this is not an isolated issue, and i personally find that something as important and as necessary as the means to get out of the car could be so poorly constructed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet hhr. the contact stated that when driving approximately 5 to 10 mph, the driver sidedoor would sporadically open. the door was closed but later, the contact was unable o re-open the door from the interior or exterior of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and they advised him that there was a piece of plastic inside the panel that needed to be replaced. the vehicle has not been repaired. the manufacturer has not been contacted. the failure and current mileages were approximately 113,000. the vin was unavailable.

I am the second owner of a 2006 chevy hhr. current mileage is approximately 45500. three weeks ago ( 8/14/'11)the inside driver's side front door handle broke. when i went to repair the broken handle, i was advised that it is an integral part of the door panel, and would cost over $400.00 to replace. i am not in a position to replace such an expensive item; i can live with rolling the window down and opening the door from the outside. not only is this inconvenient, but it is a safety hazard due to a design flaw. if i need to exit the vehicle in a hurry, i cannot do so.

Interior door handle broke, making egress from car very difficult. handle is made of thin plastic and will not hold up to use. if emergency strikes it will be very difficult to leave the vehicle quickly. also for other vehicle owners, situation may be deadly if handle breaks during an incident when rapid egress is critical. *tr

Whenever it rains the passenger side leaks from the counsel the carpet always gets soaked... a lot of people have this problem... another known issue is the cam position sensor a lot of people have this problem now having issues with the bearings in my front wheels which seems to be another known issue others are having as well. *tr
