Problems with 2015 Chevrolet Equinox VISIBILITY/WIPER

On average, the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox starts to “feel” problems with the VISIBILITY/WIPER and its various aspects after 77 038 miles.

Recently reported VISIBILITY/WIPER problems on 2015 Chevrolet Equinox

While driving across the bay bridge, near baltimore, md. my windshield wipers stopped working! i was driving in a rain storm on the highway, and luckily for me, i was able to stick my arm out the drivers side window and manually move the wiper, back and forth, about 6 inches. the traffic was terrible and it took about 5 minutes before i could work my way to an exit. i took the vehicle to a napa repair shop and the owner told me that the windshield wiper motor assembly was broken. up to this point, i never had any problems with the wipers. i was able to drive to lewes, de. where i was headed initially, using my left arm to keep the windshield visable. the rain stopped about 40 minutes later. i took the vehicle to coastal towing, inc. to get it fixed the next day. the owner there told my the chevy has had problems with the design on the assembly (2-part) and are re-engineering a single part assembly. it cost me $350.98 to get it fixed! i could have been killed, or worse, killed someone else. a recall should be issued on this immediately!! (xxxx) parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Traveling on the interstate during a torrential rain storm. the wipers were on high speed. the wipers started to run erratically. bounced a few times on the windshield breaking it. then the wipers came to rest hanging off the drivers side of the vehicle. this failure of an essential safety system should be analyzed. due to luck or driving skill this equipment failure resulted in no accident or injury. the dealership replaced the windshield wiper motor at my cost.

While driving in downpour, my windshield wipers stopped working. driving 65 on the highway in a downpour with no wipers is dangerous and i almost crashed a few times. the motor was fine. it was the assembly transmission that kept popping off the motor that was the problem. when i had it replaced, the mechanic showed me, it slipped off so easily, it's nuts that it lasted the 2 years i've had the car. there is a recall for this in can, why not in the us? i had my children in the car. we could have crashed and seriously been injured or killed. again, the part did not break. it simple malfunctioned. it's a ball/joint type system. must be better. do better chevy. i defend your brand daily. don't make me regret it. just do better. then i call chevy about replacing - i'm told it will cost upwards of $600. to replace a faulty part?! this can't be normal wear and tear. i had my 4 year old vw jetta for 10 years (14 year old car) before i sold it and didn't have to worry about the wiper blades or assembly once. i didn't even know it was a thing until this happened. very sad. i hope you recall this part asap. people can seriously be hurt. try driving in a downpour and have no wipers, while on the highway with your kids in the car.

Driving about 40mph in heavy rain with wipers on. it then sounded like i hit something in the road. i then look to notice my wipers was no longer working. i am finding this is happening with many 2015 chevy equinox. why the customer have to pay to have it fixed.

I was travelling on the highway at 60 mph in heavy rain when my windshield wipers suddenly shut down and would no longer work. i was able to safely slow down and stop, but this could have ended much differently as i was unable to see anything! this appears to be the same problem as many have reported with the bearings on the wiper transmission corroding and coming apart.

Driving on expressway at high speed in heavy downpour, wipers on high. wipers stopped working stuck in middle of windshield. could not see anything. checking internet this is a known problem with this vehicle, plastic bearing goes.

My wife and daughter were driving 70 mph on i-75 expressway on thursday evening (18apr19) during the evening rush hour. is was raining very hard. the vehicle wipers were set on high-speed and all of a sudden the wipers traveled past their normal range. the wiper system failed in the extended travel position. the vehicle was in the left most lane of the expressway, so my wife decided to pulled over to the left side of the road. she had very limited visibility because of the heavy rain. she eventually decided to exit the expressway, which required her to cross (4) lanes of heavy traffic before getting to the expressway exit. she parked the vehicle in the closest parking lot and called to be picked up. my wife and daughter were really lucky. losing one's wipers during a thunderstorm, while driving on an expressway, is a really dangerous situation to be in. thank goodness nothing really bad happened.

During a heavy rain, the driver side wiper suddenly swung past the stopping point of the edge of the windshield and forced the wiper motor arms and bushings to break apart. the force destroyed the bushings and bend the motor arms as well as stripped the threads between the wiper motor mount and the wiper arm

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet equinox. while driving 60 mph in the rain, the contact attempted to adjust the wiper speeds. after doing so, the windshield wipers detached from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to walker chevrolet (3940 carothers pkwy, franklin, tn 37067, (615) 538-5184) where it was diagnosed that new windshield wipers needed to be installed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 80,600.

My windshield wipers stopped working completely on a rainy day. it began to rain. i pulled into a gas station, stopped, and turned my wipers off. preparing to leave the gas station, i turned the wipers back on after i turned the car back on while i was still parked. the wipers went up one time, they stopped in the upward position, and never started back working. during the time that i have had this vehicle, the wipers would go so hard that the wipers would go past the stopping point on the drivers side, as if the driver side wiper was going to go off the side. the wiper would make a noise like it hit something. this even occured on the lowest setting for my wipers. this incident occurred last night and it is still raining with thunder so i have no pictures.

Takata recall both front windshield wipers suddenly quit working while driving in the rain at highway speeds of up to 70 mph. this is a safety hazard and could have caused an accident.

Car was parked, started motor, it was raining, started wipers, could hear the wiper motor working, wipers failed to work, had to take it to a dealer, cost to repair $283, seems like this is starting to be reported more, should be recalled as mentioned in other complaints

Wipers fail to operate despite wiper transmission active.

My wipers stopped working, getting stuck all the way to the left side of the windshield while driving in the highway, in the middle of a rain storm. it was very difficult to try to get to the shoulder on the right hand side being that i was on the left lane. thankfully, i was able to pull over safely.

The windsheild motor broke while using wipers. it was repaired using a gmc part and the wiper motor broke again. repaired were the ball joints in the wiper module i was driving on a interstate at the speed of 70mph when the wiper motor quit working. i had to pull to the side of the road and wait for the raid to stop. the rain was heavy.

Wiper failure. gm currently has a recall for the 2013 equinox for this issue. our 2015 equinox has the same issue where the wipers failed at what may have been a critical time that clearly presents a danger. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2016/rcsb-16v582-8151.pdf 0125

Windshield wiper module failure. this appears to be a common problem where the wipers stop working. this may happen at a crucial time leaving the driver's vision distorted and blurred in traffic. why haven't there been a recall in the us while they've been recalled in canada! https://gm.oemdtc.com/6968/25300-03-safety-recall-front-wiper-transmission-corrosion-failure-canada-only-2010-2017-chevrolet-equinox-gmc-terrain?fbclid=iwar2qnob4gjzlpdglg7tcyluetrzbqa79b9abtqy18xhnbx-6xaonk6nx_k0 please follow through on this, there are a lot of people with this issue! https://www.autonews.com/article/20181106/oem11/181109854/nhtsa-probes-1-7-million-gm-crossovers-for-windshield-wiper-failures?fbclid=iwar3ejegpo5ybu9sr7uqebpxlpf_boflwvys-atv9twlkb-ni1v9wbhw-9fc

The car was parked (thank god) and when the wipers were turned on, they no longer worked. just bought the car 9 days ago! 54k on it. i took it apart and found the wiper transmission had fallen apart!

Snowstorm on 1/12/2019, my wife was driving and the wipers just stopped working, she had to try to pull over and could not see anything.

It was raining and my wipers were set on the automatic setting where they would work about every 20-30 seconds. they stopped working in mid wipe!! the mister is still functional because i can hear it but the wipers are not. i have been reading that this is a major issue with the model of vehicle and the part has been recalled in canada. why not here???? i lost all visibility while driving down the road at night!!! i was scared to death and drove the car home.

Wiper blades stopped working.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the windshield wipers failed. while driving in the rain, the windshield wiper motor made a noise that sounded as if the motor was trying to engage the windshield wipers, bit never did. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 9-4970143711. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 125,000.

I was driving down the interstate (going 75mph) in moderate rain when suddenly our windshield wipers over extended and would no longer engage. we had to stop because we couldn't see. we had to make our way off the highway and to a repair shop to get them 'rigged' to get us back on the road.

On the evening of december 22nd, 2018 during heavy rain driving approximately 60mph on the freeway (south on i5 in everett, wa), the windshield wipers stopped functioning in mid stroke. with extremely poor visibility, we managed to pull the vehicle off the freeway we shut the vehicle off and restarted it hoping this would reset the wipers, but they continued to not function. the wiper motor can be heard functioning, however, the wiper arms fail to move. we will be taking it to our dealer for service, but suspect the bushings on the transmission have failed.

I was traveling on a highway in heavy rain when suddenly the passenger-side wiper started moving in the opposite direction as the driver-side wiper. it finally stopped dead and i only had the driver side wiper but the blade was badly damaged when they were hitting one another so i had very limited vision. i consider this to be an extremely hazardous situation.

During a snow storm in virginia 12/09/2018 my windshield wipers suddenly and without warning stopped working. i had to drive remainder of the 2 hour drive home during a snow storm, at night in treacherous conditions with no windshield wipers. i had to have the dealership (tappahannock chevrolet) replace the entire windshield wiper transmission assembly (with motor) simply because a plastic transmission arm lock (poorly designed plastic button/bushing broke. total cost was $357.40 due to a lousy design!

Vehicle driving on freeway at 70 mph. heavy rain going on with windshield wipers going on. suddenly windshield wipers stopped and visibility was minimal. it was difficult to find the emergency shoulder of freeway. very dangerous situation. car had to be towed since it could not be driven in the rain

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet equinox. while driving 45 mph, the windshield wipers stopped operating while the contact was driving in the rain. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 57,000.

Last saturday as i was driving on the tollway, my wipers just stopped working. it was pouring rain. talk about being scared. i managed to get to the next exit and get off the tollway and pull over on a side street. i had a sweat shirt in the car and had to safely pull over at times every 3 blocks to clear the window. sometimes the rain slowed and i could go a little further down side streets. i made it to a gas station with of course no mechanic and located the wiper fuse and switched the rear camera fuse with it (same w), but it still didn't work. i bought paper towels and again kept stopping to wipe the window. really dangerous and scary. miraculously, about half way to home from there it stopped raining and i was able to get home. research shows this wiper problem is a recall in canada. it should be here, too. it cost $595 to repair.

The front window defroster does not blow any air, which causes the inside to fog over. also the outside of the windshield freezes causing extreme visibility loss. the defroster does not work at all regardless if i am driving or parked. i reviewed may others with the exact same issue for many different year equinox. there really needs to be a recall to correct this before an accident occurs causing death.

July 25, 2018 while driving on the highway in a heavy rainstorm front windshield wipers motor went out completely i had 0 visibility i was stranded on the highway for hours until the rain stopped. it was repaired the next day they stated water had gotten into the linkage and upper transmission box for the windshield wipers also material used to make the parts are not of good quality. november 15, 2018 now three months later during a major snow and ice storm the same exact problem only this time i was on a city street driving.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet equinox. while driving 70 mph, the windshield wipers turned completely off without warning. the vehicle was taken to walker chevrolet (4130 1st ave, nitro, wv 25143) and the windshield wiper transmission was replaced. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 55,000. *tt*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet equinox. while driving in the rain, the windshield wipers seized. the contact noticed that the windshield wiper arms pulled away from the windshield and the windshield motor remained activated. the contact took the vehicle to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiper transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 8-4808902384. the failure mileage was 46,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the windshield wipers failed to function during inclement weather. as a result, the contact had to drive extremely slowly and parked the vehicle due to the failure. shottenkirk chevrolet (755 w hickman rd, waukee, ia 50263, 1-(877) 291-9490) inspected that the chain that linked the windshield wipers to the motor was fractured. the chain was replaced. the dealer and the manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v582000 (visibility); however, the vehicle exhibited the same failure as the recall. the failure was remedied. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 60,800.

Windshield wipers quit working in a rain storm in heavy traffic on a sunday night with a three (3) hour drive ahead of me. this is a safety issue that should be addressed, i have seen this has been a problem in the pass with the equinox and it still the same problem with windshield wipers today. i'm a experienced driver and at 72 years of age my though was of a inexperienced driver and what their reaction would be in the same scenario. i explained this to a gm rep. and was told to take it to a dealer, that i will do at my expense. this issue should be addressed, if this had happened in 1956 it would be repaired and not a issue next year

While driving on the freeway during a heavy rain storm i had my wipers running at the medium interval and they completely stopped working. i had to pull off onto the shoulder in a construction zone, between large orange barrels, and wait for the rain to subside. i attempted to change the fuses and this was not the problem. i just got the diagnostic back from the dealership. they notified me that the windshield wiper transmission needs to be replaced and it will cost $355.00. my vehicle has less than 55,000 miles on it. i'm hoping that it will be covered by warranty, especially since a recall has not been issued and i see over 20 other reports of the exact same thing happening. it was an extremely dangerous situation and turned a 4 hour drive into a 7.5 hour drive because i had to stop repeatedly when the rain picked up.

As i was driving on the highway 2 weeks ago in the rain, my driver side windshield wipers were going back and forth and all of a sudden the driver side wiper got stuck and stopped working. i ended up getting it fixed and it was $300 to repair. i also saw an article about how this was common on older models of the same car. unfortunately since i have a 2015, i just missed the recall notice, even though i apparently had the same issue with mine.

Front windshield wipers quit working while driving in hard rain on a freeway. was told this is a known problem with chevy equinox and recalls have been made in canada for same issue. have to replace bushings.

While driving vehicle home i turned on wiper blades to clean light rain from front windshield and the passenger side wiper blade failed to work. the car was in motion on a county/state road it was dark out. also upon arriving home while stationary in my garage i again tried wipers, passenger side wiper again, failed to work.

The wiper blades stopped working while i was driving on the highway in a thunderstorm. i was unable to see through my front windshield. i was able to pull on the side and wait until my visibility was clear to proceed on my route.

The wipers stopped working while i was driving on the highway in the middle of a rain storm. the motor still works and the fuses aware good. it stopped on the left hand side of the vehicle in an upright position. almost causing me to crash.

Wiper linkage arm broke when driving on road. made wiper inoperable.

I eas frivong 2 passengers for lyft and it started raining very hard.i turned on my windshield wipers on the fastest setting because i could not see where i was going and i heared the wipers banging hard as they were wiping the rain away so i can see the road when suddenly my wipers stopped en route to my first address.my first client lived 10 minutes away in rush hour bumper to bumper traffic.i got so scared and my clients were even more scared because i had to drive them home with my head sticking out of the window.after dropping them off safely in a terrible rain storm my wipers stopped working while i was driving.when i looked into them it was my wiper motor and linkage that broke off and stopped them from wiping the heavy rain.lucky i have some knowledge with this part because it happened to me before in a different vehicle,so i bought a used set from the junk yard to put on my new car.but i would like for a brand new set put in my vehicle before the used one breaks on me.i also had a problem with an air conditioning/heat part that broke inside the same vehicle.

Driving down the interstate at 65 mph in a rain storm, the wipers went clear left and stopped working, i could not see to cross over and pull off and almost hit car in front. wiper motor running, appears to be broken linkage arm. this problem was recalled on same year and model in canada, why not us

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet equinox. while the contact was driving in the rain, the windshield wipers independently stopped functioning. the failure prevented the contact from viewing the road clearly. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and waited until the rain stopped before resuming driving. the vehicle was taken to david maus chevrolet (972 towne center blvd, sanford, fl 32771, (407) 641-4198) where it was diagnosed that the windshield wiper module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the approximate failure mileage was 86,950.

While driving in a rain storm, rural, winding 2 lane, speed 45mph, wipers on high speed, blades suddenly stopped in upright position. no visibility. had to pull to shoulder and wait out the rain. fuse good. rear wiper working. front wiper motor making sounds like it was trying to work. was told at auto parts store that some connection/gear inside the motor likely busted. would need a new wiper motor. dangerous. lucky i was not on a large, busy freeway at the time. these motors should be recalled.

While traveling at 70 mph, during a terrible rain storm, the wipers just stopped. thankfully, we were slowing because of the torrent of rain and we were able to pull off safely and checked the fuses but that is not the problem we understand that there is a recall in canada for the same problem why not the us?

While driving along in a rainstorm my windshield wipers failed. it was pretty stressfull for a time till i was able to stop. please add me to the list of complaints. the fix was over 500 dollars

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet equinox. while the contact's daughter was driving at unknown speeds, the windshield wipers failed to work and were stuck in the upright position. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the wiper transmission needed to be replaced. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in a tsb, warranty, or recall. the failure mileage was 66,000. *tt*jb

Windshield wiper motor/transmission failure, after a downpour of rain the vehicle wiper assembly stopped working, i stopped and waited until rain had cleared. took it into dealership where they said it was not under recall , so i had it fixed
