Problems with 2014 Chevrolet Equinox VISIBILITY/WIPER

On average, the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox starts to “feel” problems with the VISIBILITY/WIPER and its various aspects after 78 765 miles.

Recently reported VISIBILITY/WIPER problems on 2014 Chevrolet Equinox

I was driving on the highway and the windshield wipers stopped working in the middle of heavy rain and traffic. we had to pull off the highway with hazards and by sticking our heads out of the window.

On 1/18/2020, while driving during heavy rain, the wipers swung to the left during a cycle and stayed in the far left position. they did not cycle anymore and became loose and could be moved by hand in any direction. pulled off and got under hood and changed the fuse #29, with no avail. the wiper motor could be heard but would not cycle the wipers. very dangerous conditions in which to lose function of wipers.

My wipers just stop working in the middle.of wiping!!!!

Wiper blades stop working in mid stream

My wipers stopped working in the middle of a downpour. i took my car to be fixed and was told that the ball bearing in the wipers was completely worn out. i got that fixed. now 1 month later the exact same thing happened. i read that there was a recall on 2013 and older. i think there needs to be a wider recall to fix this problem.

Wiper transmission has broken 3 times in the last 12 months cost of $500 so far and i have appointment at garage again i was driving out of the parking lot, wipers were working, then a clunk and wipers quit

Car was in motion and wipers were in use during rain and wiper just stopped! while driving one evening in the rain, driver's side wiper abruptly stopped mid-wipe and stuck upright on the windshield. i was forced to pull over and inch along to a service center as visibility was severely limited. chevy dealer determined that the wiper motor and transmission had failed and that part recall had not yet been expanded to 2014 year in the us. i am furious to learn that the recall was expanded only to canada! besides the $350 i am out for the repair i am disappointed that gm is not doing the right thing. safety was the biggest factor in my decision to buy an equinox and with a teen driver in the house, a failure like this could have been catastrophic!!

Wipers suddenly stopped working in a snow/sleet storm while driving, wiper motor still running, wiper transmission broken. lucky no one was seriously hurt. wiper transmission should be recalled as this is a very serious defect.

Went out to start my car, i started it up my wipers took 2 swipes over the front windshield,. i didn't even hit the switch ? then they returned back down by base of windshield & never came back up to swipe my windshield again ? checked the fuse, it was fine ! i have yet to be able to use my car, do to this safety issue ?? what do i do ? was told that there is a recall investigation on the front windshield motor & arms ? i was setting idling in my driveway & warming up my car ? i am still unable to leave my driveway ? do to the wet, slushy weather & possibility of splashback on my windshield, that i couldn't clean off ? to allow me to see where i was going ? so, what do i do now ??n

While driving in the pouring down rain, aprox (45 mph) i had my wipers on high because it was raining really hard, all of a sudden they just stopped working. the arm on the drivers side kind of wrapped around the driver side of the car. i was able, by the grace of god to inch my way over on the shoulder from the fast lane. the wipers never would work again. i could hear the motor for them but they wouldn't move. next day(when luckily it was not raining and was dry) i was able to get it to weber chev. creve coeur and they worked me in their busy schedule. i was told it was the wiper transmission. there has already been a recall for this exact item for 367,800 terrains and equinoxes from 2013. there is an investigation for 2010-2016 recalls. this was a very dangerous situation i was in and luckily i was able to stick my head out the window in the pouring rain to inch my car a mile and a half home by way of the shoulder. please consider a recall for all from 2010-2016

Wipers stopped working suddenly on my way home from a local mall with 3 children in the car, in a snow squall. it was pretty scary i had to pull over on the highway for 45 minutes until it stopped snowing.i could hear the motor still working but nothing was moving. took to my mechanic to find out it need a new wiper transmission beacuse it had failed $370 bucks later their working again. clearly this is a problem that gm has not been able to correct and these vehicles should have been recalled as well.

The plastic cap that connects the wiper ball joint to the wiper control linkage on my 2014 chevrolet equinox broke during a rain while driving out of state. i was able to finish the last 10 or 12 miles of the trip by stopping every mile or two and operating the wipers by hand. ridiculous and dangerous. upon returning home i repaired the defect only to have it break again almost right away. i repaired it again, checking to be certain the repair parts were correct, they were, and this time it worked correctly for aprx a month, then a different cap and ball joint on the same mechanical part suffered the same failure. once again i repaired the damage, which this time worked for a couple of months, until this morning, 11/01/2019, when it again malfunctioned before i left my driveway. i see there have been a number of other people reporting this same issue, and there was a recall for this problem on the 2013 model; i feel this is a manufacturing issue as i have only ever had to address this malfunction one other time in my life on a 20+ year old vehicle. but even that time it may have been my fault as i was working in this area of that vehicle and i believe i inadvertently stressed that mechanical connection. i'm an auto manufacturer retiree and have worked around cars, including a few years doing final line repair at the manufacturer, and feel quite convinced this is a manufacturer defect that needs to be addressed. as of now i'm left with little recourse except to replace the entire wiper assembly; something i am highly unsatisfied with bearing the expense and responsibility of doing.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while driving in inclement weather, the windshield wipers became inoperable. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the windshield wiper transmission linkage was fractured. the contact was also informed that the windshield wiper arm was fractured. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

I was traveling on the interstate after dark in the rain at approximately 65 mph. i had my wipers set on high when they suddenly stopped working mid cycle. i could hear the wiper motor cycling but the wiper arms were not moving. i knew something was wrong with the linkage ( or transmission) from the motor to the wiper arms. the wiper transmission required replacing due to faulty bushings on the transmission links. the connecting arm fell off leaving the wipers inoperable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, without warning the windshield wipers became inoperable. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was determined that the plastic bushing that connected both wipers to the windshield wiper motor no longer operated as intended. the contact was provided an estimate of $200 for the repair. doxon toyota of auburn (3405 auburn way n, auburn, wa 98002, (253) 833-4555) and awesome chevrolet buick (2580 n national ave, chehalis, wa 98532, (360) 245-2265) were contacted by phone, but were unable to assist because the vehicle was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was 78,000.

My husband was ⁵driving south on wisconsin highway 43 on september 22, 2019 in heavy rain when both wipers suddenly whipped over to the left and stopped working. the driver's wiper stuck out to the left of the car window and the passenger wiper stayed on the windshield on the driver's side. we turned knobs and tried everything we could think of to start the wipers, to no avail. this was a dangerous situation with very limited visibility in fast moving, heavy traffic. we exited as soon as we could to reposition the wipers and attempt to turn them on again. they would not move. we were fortunate that the rain let up some as we continued home in this unsafe manner. this is a safety issue that should be addressed by general motors with a recall and repair.

Windshield wipers quit functioning car was bought used w/ approx 65k miles. currently has 78k miles. in a heavy downpour, the windshield wipers quit functioning due to linkage bushing falling off the motor ball joint connection. luckily was close to home. can not order just the bushing from the dealer, entire linkage must be replaced. dealer would not cover cost of replacement.

While traveling on an expressway with heavy traffic in a rainstorm with my children in the car the wipers stopped working forcing us to immediately get to the shoulder. we almost crashed and spent over an hour stranded and hoping no one would crash into us until the rain let up so we could drive to the nearest exit. at 54k miles gm's wiper transmission with plastic used in the moving parts failed. ntsha id16v582000 has been issued & needs to be expanded beyond the limited vehicles. obviously, this is still a very dangerous problem!

Windshield wiper stopped working during a rain storm while driving on interstate. linkage came apart.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. while driving 40 mph, the windshield wipers seized without warning. the vehicle was taken to tom kelley buick gmc (633 ave of autos, fort wayne, in, (260) 434-4600) where it was diagnosed that the wiper transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 72,000. *as *tr

When driving with the wipers on low, the wipers worked as expected. when the wipers were switched to high, the plastic connector points under the hood became disconnected and stopped working completely. this was at 65 mph with the visibility going from adequate to zero instantly. this has now happened three times, even with new connection points and then a new assembly.

Front windshield wipers stopped working in the middle of a heavy rain storm.

I was driving on the highway in the middle of a thunderstorm. wipers had been working just fine, then all of a sudden they went completely off the driver side of the windshield, i had no visibility, and was almost rear ended when they stopped working. i had to pull over on the shoulder of a 3 lane highway and wait until the rain stopped. i took it to chevy dealer and they wanted $150 to just look at the car. took it to a local shop and it was diagnosed as a common issue with chevy equinox's. the wiper transmission link stopped working. the motor on the wipers still works just fine.

On july 14, 2019, i was traveling on the interstate from out of town when a heavy rainstorm came out of nowhere. i had my two children and dog in the car with me. i immediately turned my windshield wipers on and they were working fine. not even five minutes went by and they stopped in the middle of my window and while on a busy interstate. i had no clue what caused it as i had no issues leading up to it. i attempted to pull on the side of the road and almost hit a motorcyclist under a bridge due to lack of visibility. chevy needs to issue a recall immediately. the 2013 model was recalled and from what i have read alot of people with my same vehicle is having the same issues. i pray no one looses their life over this issue. i am not understanding what chevy is waiting on as this is very dangerous and costly to have repaired.

Wipers were in operation during a heavy thunderstorm and they just stopped. visibility was zero and traffic was heavy. fuses were checked and that was not the issue.

While i was driving on the thruway there was a rain storm and my wipers were working, then all of a sudden, the wipers stopped working and i couldn't see a thing in front of me. i had to determine where i could pull off to the side and hoped the spot was safe enough. i put on my four way flashers so i could be seen by other drivers. it was the scariest thing i ever experienced in all my years of driving. why would the wipers just stop working!!

Windshield wipers stop working in a heavy downpour while at normal wiper speed. dealer is wanting to charge 400 for as they stated is common problem with the vehicle because the plastic housing on the wiper transmission arm just breaks

I was driving at about 60 mph on the highway in a severe thunderstorm when my wipers stopped working. the motor was still running. i had to pull over because i had no visibility immediately. thankfully, i was in the right lane and could get to the shoulder immediately or there would have been an accident. had my car towed home.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet equinox. while driving on the highway in a rain storm, the windshield wipers stopped working. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home because there was no visibility. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 58,000.

I was riding down a highway through a sever thunderstorm when my front windshield wipers stopped working. my rear wipers remained intact. i pulled over, checked the fuse and found that the fuse was not blown. therefore, i believe it's the motor. i looked up the issue to discover many people have had the same issue with this make and model.

I was driving home during a rainstorm and my windshield wipers just randomly stopped and i could not see i have zero visibility i put my hazard lights on and attempted to drive home at 9 pm at night in the dark with no working wipers

Driving in rainstorm down the highway traveling around 70 mph windshield wipers failed and stopped in place causing dangerous driving conditions. after inspection wiper linkage had snapped. replacement linkage, only able to be run under low speed.

Was traveling at 55 miles an hour in pouring rain, windshield wipers stopped working. was unable to see. took vehicle to chevrolet dealership who found that the wiper motor needed to be replaced. they charged me $328.00 to replace it.

While driving home from work in a torrential rain storm, my wipers quit working and i had to pull well off the road (us23) and wait out the storm. the storm finally abated and i was able to continue home.

Takata recall. on 5/9/2019 i was driving 4 1/2 hours from my home to a cabin for a mini trip. it was sunny up until about an hour into my trip then sudden rain started pouring. i turned my windshield wipers on and within a matter of seconds they malfunctioned and stopped to the left side of my vehicle, hanging almost off of my vehicle. i was going approx 70 miles an hour on the interstate in the pouring rain when they malfunctioned and i couldn't see anything in front of me. i had to try to get to the side of the interstate before i hit something but that was hard to do because i had no visibility of what was in front of me.

On june 8, 2019 my family and i were driving on a busy highway when it started to rain very heavily. about three minutes into the rain storm the front windshield wipers abruptly stopped working and stuck in the middle of the windshield. i had zero visibility and came very close to crashing into another vehicle. i was able to pull over and wait for the rain to pass. it took me two hours to get home because i had to constantly find places to pull over and wait for the rain to subside. usually it only takes about 25 minutes to drive home from this destination. it was a horrible experience and we came close to seriously being hurt or killed directly because of the wiper failure and the zero visibility due to the heavy rain. i did some investigation and found where gm had to recall the 2013 equinox and gmc terrain models due to windshield-wiper failure. i took our equinox to our local certified gm dealer for inspection and repair of the wiper on june 11, 2019. the service technician showed me that the wiper transmission arm had broken off of the wiper motor. this is the exact same cause of failure that led to the recall of the 2013 equinox model. our gm dealer told us that no official recall had been issued for our 2014 equinox. gm needs to recall the 2014 equinox model for the same wiper failure of the 2013 equinox model!!! the 2014 equinox models were released in the year of 2013. they have the same wiper model on them as the 2013 models. i have the official repair invoice with the description of the wiper failure diagnosed by our gm service dealer. i also have in my possession the failed wiper motor assembly that was removed from my equinox. my family and i beg you to please investigate these faulty windshield wipers on the 2014 equinox and require gm to recall this model.

Wipers failed while driving on an interstate freeway. heavy rain, wipers were on at highest speed setting when something audibly snapped and wipers extended off the windshield on the drivers side of vehicle. visibility was greatly reduced to the point that the vehicle was unable to be driven.

I was driving down the expressway during a thunderstorm when all of a sudden my wipers stopped. i proceeded to the median to try to see fix the problem. then i drove cautiously to the next exit. i could hear the wiper motor going but the wipers it self would not work. it was a very dangerous situation an as i see this is a huge problem with equinoxes.

The windshield wipers stopped working while i was driving on the turnpike in the rain. the bushing on the linkage at the wiper motor broke apart.

My windshield wiper blades stopped working while i was driving on the highway in the middle of a thunderstorm. it was raining extremely hard, i had to pull over to avoid hitting someone because i could not see out of my windshield.

During a torrential rain storm friday night april 19 2019 apx 11:15pm on 295 near exit 29 off ramp wipers stopped working had to be towed and now having repaired thru warranty company and in a rental because the motor is defective

Driving home on the turnpike during the pouring rain, windshield wipers were inoperable. visibility was compromised. very scary, almost had an accident. gmac says that there is no recall for my 2014 equinox.

The wind shield wipers stop working entirely.

At the end of february 2019 the transmission in my windshei6wipers went out. gm refused to fix the problem. i only had my car for 2 years. i was driving in the middle of a rain storm.

While driving on the interstate during a rainstorm and using the wipers at high speed the wiper transmission linkage disengaged and operation immediately ceased. visibility was completely zero and very nerve racking when you are driving at a higher rate of speed. while on the highway the vehicle went into limp home mode and the check engine light came on. the call shaft actuators had failed and were subsequently replaced. the 2.4l ecotec engine consumes an abnormal amount of oil. more than 1 quart per thousand miles. milage is approximately 75,000 miles. also has intermittent hesitation when accelerating with a distinct "jerk". accelerator position sensor failed at 35k miles.

I was driving in the highway during a ice/rain storm when my windshield wipers stoped working causing a serious hazard situation. gm has to start fixing this problem before someone causes an accident and someone dies beacuse of this. hope something gets done quick .

The windshield wiper transmission arm has become disconnected from the wiper arms. there is a recall on 2013 models. obviously there's a problem with this year also. the vehicle was in the driveway, my wife put the wipers on, heard a bang noise and the wipers stopped moving.

Driving in a heavy rain at night on the highway and wipers suddenly stopped creating a hazzard not only for me but all drivers nearby. chevrolet won't accept responsibility for repair of this known issue on my 4 year old, 38,000 mile car.

I was driving at 45 mph on a 4 lane road during at night during a bad rain storm when the windshield wipers stopped suddenly with no warning at all. had to pull off the road and put the emergency blinkers on. this was very scary and an extremely dangerous situation. waited on the shoulder of the road until a police officer arrived and escorted me to a parking lot; she said it was too dangerous to stay on the shoulder on such a busy road. the car has about 75,000 miles and has been regularly serviced at the dealers since its purchase. the dealer replaced the front wiper assembly at a cost of about $400. i assumed that this was a manufacturers defect, since the car is only 4 years old but the service manager said it wasn't, and there was no recall for this problem. if it wasn't a defective part, is this something i can expect to recur every 4 years?? i have received no good answers from the service manager. but i went to the web and found a couple dozen pf reports for this exact problem with this car (http://www.carproblemzoo.com/chevrolet/equinox/2014/wiper-problems.php). i've never had the wipers just stop working like this on any car i have ever owned in my 50 years of owning cars. this defective front wiper assembly needs to be addressed as a safety issue and other motorists warned of the danger.

Driving home from work at 2 am in the rain and my windshield wipers suddenly stopped causing complete loss of visibility on the highway. almost lost control and had to pull over. apparently this is a known issue but gm will not cover the repair on my 4 year old, 38,000 mile suv.
