I bought my used 2010 chevy equinox from the dealer, and 2 weeks later the service stabilitrak light came on. took it to the dealer, they did an alignment and the same day the light came back on with traction control light. the next day i went to the grocery store, and when i tried to start it to leave it wouldn't start. after 2 tries, it finally started but then the reduced engine power light came on and wouldn't go above 25 mph. eventually the vehicle powered down and i had to pull over for a tow truck to come. the chevy dealer said it was the main timing chain (not covered) and something else in the engine but i would have to pay for labor to disassemble it. my car has been out of service and sitting at the dealer for now 10 days. luckily i wasn't on the highway when this happened, and decided to go to the store before heading to work. carfax reports indicate the timing chain and fuel pump was replaced at 40,000 miles already. i see a lot of people with this problem in much scarier situations. i believe this should be a recall before something happens.
Vehicle was in motion approximately 45 mph when check engine light came on, message then appeared that engine power is reduced and speed immediately dropped to around 15 mph and then to a rough idle at approx 5-10mph. was almost rear ended by vehicle traveling behind me. i was able to limp remaining 2 miles home and contacted dealer. appointment was made and dealer reported code p2135 and replaced throttle body..dealer said throttle didn't know up from down. dealer stated this is a common problem with the equinox. i have read many complaints online about this same issue with other owners reporting being put in a dangerous position with the sudden drop in speed like we were. i contacted chevy gm and they said there were no recalls. if rapid acceleration has been treated by other companies as recall worthy, i dont understand why chevy does not consider this recall worthy. i have attached the repair report with this complaint.
Vehicle is exhibiting stall and quitting actions at stop lights and stop signs. also excessive oil consumption having to change oil or add oil
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 45 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. while driving home, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 126,096.
When i purchased this vehicle, i was not told that the engine was replaced. i have replaced the exhaust manifold 2 times. the dealer told me that there is metal fragments in my oil. that i need a new engine.
I was driving one day and these lights popped on out of no where the exhaust resginator cracking the car constantly has wheel bearing issue and the engine is burning oil it's not doing what it's supposed to do with it.i was driving on the l-90 thruway at 65 mph. i. am also having head light blowing i have changed the headlights 4 times this year
Alot is going on with my 2010 chev my exhaust pipe crack and i was told that is a real problem with chevy's my car is consuming way to much oil i constantly have to get oil changes. my driver side head light keeps going out i'm changing my head light 2-3 times a year. i replaced my spark plugs and coils a few months ago and my car when i'm driving it will stop and the wheel will lock up while i'm driving it .
General motors have been at no assistance to me since my purchase of my 2010 chevrolet equinox i purchased it february/march of 2016 and have had continuous issue with the vehicle, i contacted the place of purchase and general motors numerous times about the complaint of my vehicle. also with the attached proof of repairs i referred to the dealers who did the repairs and general motors of any current recalls. back in october 2019 my check engine light came on because my converter went out and my 100k warranty expired, gm was not in understanding and would not assist. then i did my own research and found there was a oil consumption law suite and a separate special extended warranty in the catalytic converter but only until 120k. my issue is general motors will not assist me due to me being over the 120k mileage even though i inquired about it time after time since the time i purchased the vehicle. i have kept up to date in my address even when i moved out of state. i'm just looking for assistance in why my vehicle is not covered under the law suite or covered with the special warranty with my catalytic converter. i never received any mail notification and all my repairs were done at a licensed certified general motor dealer and they are aware of this issue/recalls and i was not told of the issues. i would just like to get my vehicle fixed since i spent so much money on it as it is. i had to do my own research online to find this information which could of been avoided if i was contacted front the beginning. i was never notified of a recall but once back in 2016 for a windshield wiper recall
Car was dying when i tried to pull out onto the road, city street from a stop sign.was almost hit. my grandaughter is just learning to drive and i am scared to death to let her drive it . running after key taken out, running very ruff. check engine light kept going on & off as well as stabli trac warning.smelled like catalytic convertor burning took to dealer to have diagosed and they said high pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced. engine had high content of fuel scanned and had excessive amaount of rich codes and misfire codesthat there was fuel getting in my oil said there was a recall but not on my vin. saw other complaints same problem that were told vin wasn't right. cost me $500.00 to fix bought this car brand new and had to get a new engine at 62,000 and new pistons & cracked manifold replaced at 102,000. i had taken the car to dealer a few years ago for same issue and engine light had gone off and they said they could not find anything wrong. out of warranty now and finally diagnosed the problem.getting ready to buy 2 cars and i will never by another chevy or gm car again .going with the foreigns. i think these cars are all lemons.i have seen others that were also told wrong vin but same issue, needs investigated. i have already recieved invitation for class action suit on this darn car! really
I have to replace throttle body because my car would just stall while driving in the middle of the road as well as replacing my muffler. currently i have a new set of brakes that squeal like no tomorrow and my check engine light just came on giving me codes to replace 2 camshaft positioning solenoid actuator and finally the car it turning into a complete rust bucket. .
Timing and or balance chain to the engine is stretched and could result in breakage. this can happen at anytime. this has been a known issue with this engine as reported in gm special coverage 12312d that specifically covers 2010-2011 chevrolet equinox, along with 3 other model vehicles. my vin is not flagged as part of this special coverage although it is causing the same issue with the same model and year as depicted in the special coverage.
'oil consumption and driveability , vehicle using more than one quart of oil every 400 miles or less, was at busy intersection in city on major city street and car froze up, would not accelerate and almost caused another vehicle to hit me from behind. turned off vehicle, then turned key and it started long enough to drive into nearest parking lot. had to press gas peddle all the way down and vehicle would not reverse at at. tow truck was called and towed to local chevrolet dealership. it was diagnosed with oil consumption problems due to the 2010 engine that it was built with. was advised to keep watch on oil until decide how to fix engine.
I took my equinox to the garage started out as an oil consumption issue then turned into the whole motor getting rebuilt.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving, the check engine and stability control warning indicators illuminated, and the engine would stall. the vehicle was taken to ferman chevrolet (9751 alamo dr, tampa, fl) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was not determined. the contact indicated that the high pressure fuel pump was previously replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 27,000.
This car burns oil fast and i learned the hard way. 2 years after buying the car all the pistons in the engine bent due to lack of oil. when the car was getting fixed the mechanic said it was bone dry and i had just had an oil change 2 months prior. $3,200 later the car was fixed, but it still had issues shifting. in colder weather the car felt like it would barely move. i had no real mechanical issues until a year later. i had driven it 45 miles and stopped at a gas station, when i went to turn the car back on all of the emergency lights came on as well as the 'stabilitrak' light and the car wouldn't move. the only way i could get it to move was by turning the traction off, and was thankfully able to drive it home. i got it into the gm dealership and they said the stability track and the crankshaft needed replaced. my abs light was still failing and i'm total it was another $1,400 of work. now the engine seems to be making a cranking noise. i'm tired of wasting money on this piece of junk!!!!!
Transmission is bad. when i try to accelerate it doesn't go anywhere and its skipping gears and bucking prior to it finally no longer driveable
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle decelerated and the rpms increased. the contact turned on the hazard lights and shut off the engine. the contact restarted the vehicle three times and drove home. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed that a new transmission needed to be installed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist because the vehicle was out of warranty. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 125,000.
I got my 2010 chevy equinox on january 4, 2019. ever since the second week, i've had it i've been having trouble with it at first i thought it just because i needed a tune up and oil change after i got those the problem continued. so around the end of february, i put the suv in the shop they said it was the water pump/balance shaft chain the entire thing cost $669.49. i was very excited to get my suv back on march 15, 2019, just in time for me to go to out of town just to find out the car is making the same noise and doing the same rough riding. i took the car back in the shop for a diagnostic in april they said that they had a lot of vehicles with the same and to file a complaint. i put the car down since then and it's just sitting under garage taking my money. the car also cut off on me multiple times the latest time it happened to me, i was driving down the street and i couldn't accelerate and it just cut off and i had to put on hazards and i almost got hit.
14882 special coverage adjustment-plugged pcv orifice in intake manifold. dealer in columbus ne. 68601 ernest auto sales told me my 2010 vin. number not listed for the recall back main seal blowed out no warranty .i see other people same problem with seal and again are cars not covered. i own 2 equinons 2010 and 2018.. maybe i need to look at other brands instead if you have a know problem and wont stand behind your product that's sad you make your decision and ill make mine!!! i was driving it started to smoke a little plus could smell it when i stoped
Was driving on the road. the stabili track came on again had this replaced last year, came on the the car completely shut off while in drive in the middle of the road. scared me to death. had to have to have towed, now i'm looking at paying more to get it fixed then what i owe on it
Driving on state highway when vehicle started acting like it would die. i was almost home and when i parked it found it had almost no oil in vehicle after checking it before traveling home. oil light did not come on. mechanic says frozen pcv valve in rear crankshaft; it could have blown and left me stranded or in accident; mechanic said there was a recall but my particular vin wasn't included
On monday 1/21/2019, my car broke down on the side of a busy four lane road. i had it towed to my mechanic's shop where the problem was diagnosed as a bad pcv valve system. this part is engineered very poorly and gm has continued to use it anyway. the pcv valve system allows water to collect in it and then freeze, in return blowing out the rear main seal so the engine no longer holds oil. currently, gm has a "recall" on this part, gm bulletin #14882, which should cover a car of the exact same make, model, and year as mine for up to 120,000 miles or 10 years. mine falls within both of those specs. however, when contacting gm about this recall, i have been informed that this specific recall "does not include my vin#." after researching, i've discovered this is a much larger problem than gm is willing to take responsibility for, as it is happening to many of their customers nationwide and they're all being told the same thing i was, that it doesn't match the vin#. i spent two days making phone calls, being on hold, and waiting for a return phone call from someone in the "executive department." because i couldn't wait to have a working car while waiting on their phone call, i instructed my repair man to fix my car and now i'm being told gm will not help me at all because i had it repaired on my own accord. when trying to order this part to repair my car, my repair man discovered that this part is backordered through gm, because everyone needs it replaced. the shop my car is being repaired through has had three equinoxes come into their shop since tuesday for the exact same problem, and they've all been told the same thing i have by gm customer service...and that's just one small shop in ohio. i'd like gm to extend the recall to cover not just mine, but all cars this part has been used on, and also cover the expenses to repair the engine in my car that it damaged.
Balance chain pins wear, allowing the chain to stretch.cause engine noise. i took the car in for a brake job and said the engine is making noises it shouldn't be making.the advisor said that's nomal for that car to make that noise.it's the same recall for the 2010-2011 equinox on the 2.4l engine.(laf).that year 2010-2011 have a special coverage adjustmentthe 2014 equinox has the same problems and you need to look into this because people paying for a no fix.
I only have 99,500 miles on my 2010 equinox running good and i keep up on the maintenance and for no reason the timing chain stretched and jumped when i went to start it one day
Service stabilitrak, reduced engine power, slapping noise in steering as well as major vibration
My veh stalled on me mid drive said engine power reduced, it did not let me accelerate and i almost got hit. simultaneously the stabilitrack message came on and watch for ice, did this happen because of the cold? also few days later it was storming and my wipers stopped in the middle of the window and i was on the fwy in the fast lane. i had to get soaked from rolling m window down to pull over. roadside came to stop traffic to let me on the right side shoulder because i was lucky i had room to pull over or even see in the first place. i couldnt see anything!
Takata recall so for the last month or so i've been driving and or just at a stoplight or a stop sign and my car would go in a power mode and i can't get out of 10 miles per hour its saying something about tract system and my check engine light comes on i would have to pull over and turn the car off for a couple minutes for it to get out of that mode but sometimes it don't even do it. it can do it 10 times the time that i'm driving it's very unsafe and as i'm reading all of these complaints everyone or a lot of people is having this issue it's very scary and i'm still paying on this car i only had it for just about two years right now i would please like to find out what's going on with my car before i have to pay a lot of money to get it fixed when we don't know what's wrong with it
As driving nov 19, 2018. the car stalled, engine problem, my husband had to push across three lanes of traffics ! almost got run down . for no reason the car just stopped running! we were putting one quart of oil per week?? in between regular oil changes. the car was towed, our mechanic told us engin seized, needed a new engine?? we still owe 3700 on the car and it doesn't run?? i'm so mad that this has been an on going problem with this year and model?? gm owes us a new car!!
Car just shuts off when on free way doing 70 or at stop light then message center says stability track control then it may sit for 5 min and then restart or may require a jump start put in new battery and had alternator tested very unsafe automobile
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 75 mph, the reduced engine power warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle independently decelerated to 15 mph. the contact stated that the failure was more prevalent during the colder months. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be cleaned. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle jerked violently while driving and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle body injector needed to be installed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 168,000.
As i was driving down a 4 lane highway, i suddenly lost power and the engine started clattering. i limped to the nearest exit, and that is where the car died. i had it towed to the nearest town, and then we put it on a trailer and took it to our mechanic. he said that it had blown a rod in the engine, and that it would need to be replaced for $6000+. there were no warning lights at all. i had been monitoring the oil level because i knew i was getting closer to a needed oil change. even after this happened, we started it to drive it on and off the trailer, and there was still no oil light!!! all recalls had been done. as we had a 100,000 warranty, it was gone through very closely before that expired.
This suv has had a new transmission, motor and now it has been just cuts out and no power and on the message center says stability track light we have put a new battery and brought it to two different gm certified car garages and no one knows what to do car is unsafe when it just decides to randomly stall out and has no power until after it sits for about 5 min it may restart or may need a jump start very scary situation it can happen when driving on freeway or in town or even in line a drive thru line in park you never know this has happened about 6-8 times and there is no warning of when it will happen nor any kind of pattern very scary and unsafe
Oil comsumption, abs light want go off. stableizer track light want go off and the dashboard light warning with the car and the wiggle lines wnat go off. now my dashborad brake light is on. every time i start the car up all these lights come on and i am afraid to drive it. i have had it coded but nothing comes up. and my ignition is starting to slip when i crank it . it does not matter if i am moving or not the lights still stay on.
I replaced the timing chain in june at my mechanic...i did not go to a dealer because i could not afford the $2000 they were asking to fix it. it is now the beginning of september and i am replacing the timing chain again. why am i reading this website and seeing thousands of complaints regarding the equinox timing chain and nothing has been done by gm. they should receive consequences for a faulty product. i called them to ask why there was not a recall when thousands of people are complaining of the same issue. they were very rude and would not offer any assistance.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle stalled and failed to immediately restart. after some time, the vehicle restarted and resumed normal operation; however, the check engine indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to orange buick gmc (3883 w colonial dr, orlando, fl 32808, (407) 295-8100) where it was diagnosed that the camshaft actuator sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 139,274.
Vehicle began experiencing stalling out. determined to be caused by metal shavings in engine. the only prior engine work on the vehicle had been done by chevrolet to address a recall in 2013 for high oil consumption. the engine was rebuilt in december of 2013. no other work was done to the engine. the repair for this issue was replacement of the engine.
1. transmission went out. 2. engine consumes all oil within 3,000 miles.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated when the accelerator pedal was depressed and the engine would rev. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. new holland auto group (508 w main st, new holland, pa 17557, (877) 217-8936) was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 137,000.
Vehicle hesitates to accelerate while trying to take off after being stopped. i have to change the oil every three weeks and by a week and half the oil is 1/4 less and really dark. there's no visible leaks or oil stains on the drive way.
High oil consumption and loud unknown noise from engine. the engine sounds like it is going to come apart when started and during acceleration. the mileage on the car is " 91860 ". the dealer performed an oil consumption report last may. said that it was within the requirements set by chevrolet. engine noise has increased. i do not feel that it is safe to drive on interstate highways.
Tl* the contact owned a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while parked in a parking lot, the vehicle caught on fire. the fire originated from the engine compartment. the fire was extinguished by the fire department and a fire report was filed. there were no injuries. the manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired, and was towed to a salvage yard. the failure mileage was 129,000. the vin was not available.
The vehicle is burning oil out before the given mileage causing the engine light to come on loud knocking in the engine smoke
While driving, the car would not accelerate, pulled onto a street and put the car into park. attempted again and the car slowly drove. another incident, my son was driving and he said it just "wouldn't drive", luckily he was near a relatives house and pulled into the drive. he attempted to move the car and put it into reverse and it would not go into reverse. the car is now at a chevy dealer. now this may not be deemed a "safety issue", but what is the issue, the car only has 65,000 and we are being told by chevy that the car needs a new transmission. at what point can a non-safety issue be deemed a recall. apparently there is a bulletin regarding the chevy equinox 2010, many many complaints, and chevy will not repair them. what can be done?
I have bought this car may 23rd 2018. the catalytic converter needed replacing and light still will not go off and code will not delete, the o2 sensors keep going out (3 times already) and the camshaft position actuator solenoid valve has been replaced 5 times in 11 months. the oil consumption is insane, i cannot make it to the oil notification the car gives me, without putting 3 qts of oil , before the notification recommends. i have no oil leak!!!
Oil burning which leads to a oil change almost 1500 miles with top off service between changes. then shaking of engine while in idle and while accelerating.
As i was approaching to a stop light my truck began to shake and vibrate as it was trying to shut itself down. as the light turned and and i tried to push the gas peddle, the car went a little then stopped. i cranked the key again, started, then shut off. now this has happened before my the truck would start back up and drive again. you can hear this weird rattling noise and while driving i was always cautious not knowing if my car would just stop randomly, or it if was just a fluke. no fluke. i see many people with the same issues and gm needs to be held responsible! i drive with my 3 and 4 year old daily, as well as taking my client's to and from appointments and running errands. just feel so violated that a car was sold to me knowing the pre historic conditions.
Owner was driving the vehicle and was slowing down to a stop light and the engine shut off. when the vehicle was restarted, the engine made a knocking noise and continued to shut off at every stop light and stop sign. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who informed the driver that there was very little oil in the engine. the mechanic informed the owner that there were metal shavings in the oil that was left. the mechanic told the owner that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was purchased at the end of jan 2018 and had an oil change at rhat time. the vehicle was driven home from the mechanic and has sat since.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was determined that there was no oil in the vehicle. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and requested that the vehicle be towed to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the failure mileage was 84,000.
Variable valve timing chain issue as with the previous years models that have had problems.2007 to 2009 model years were recalled for this same issue and the 2010 model year v6 is havig the same problem. codes p0016 and p0017. crankshaft and camshaft correlation. check engine light illuminates. same problem as 2007 thru 2009 that were covered. i called gm but they said the recall did not cover my vin specific.
