Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

The transmission failed in our 2010 chevrolet equinox with roughly 78k mile on it. we originally bought the car brand new in fall of 2009. my wife was driving it near a school when the car lunged forward. she came to a stop sign and then tried to accelerate, but the car didn't go anywhere as the engine just revved like it was in neutral. we had it towed to the dealership. the dealer stated it would need a new transmission which would cost $4,150. called gm who stated the most the most cost assistance they could provide was $1546 which is based off a calculator they use since the powertrain warranty was expired. the senior advisor for gm that i spoke with stated the transmission shouldn't have failed, but that they couldn't replace the transmission for free since there was no open recall yet for the transmission. i researched google and found many other complaints from vehicle owners of the same make and model regarding their transmission failing also. i then discovered that the 2008 and 2009 models had the exact same transmission as our 2010 model. i read that gm had issued a recall and extended a warranty in march 2015 for the 2008 and 2009 models due to the transmission problems. no recall or extended warranty has been issued yet for the 2010 model. very disappointed that gm hasn't issued a recall yet for 2010 model when knowing that the same transmission in the 2010 model is having the same exact problems as the 2008 and 2009 models.

I was parked at local eatery, engine off. came out, started car, put in reverse and proceeded out of parking spot. reverse worked fine. put car in drive and nothing happened. it was like the car was in neutral and not drive. the engine revved but the car would not move. tried several times to no avail. had it towed to chevrolet dealer. i had no indication of any trouble, no leaks, no strange noises, just the quiet revving of the engine when given the gas.

On the way to work in my 2010 chevrolet equinox, on a friday morning, pulling out to the highway my car did not want to shift and the check engine light came on. then it would not go into drive or reverse. after it was turned off and sat for a wile it went into gear. i then went by a local auto store and they read the code as p0717 and p0700 that had to do with the transmission. i would have to contact the dealer for further info. got back to work and called the dealer and was told they could not see me until late monday or tuesday. so all weekend i drove it, light was no longer on, thought everything was okay. forward monday afterwork, at stop sign and started to pull out and the car would not go into gear. no reverse either, coasted down the hill to side street and turned off the engine and after setting a few minutes it went into gear, but only lasted a short while and was stranded again. had to call for a tow and used tranco transmission. they called and said the wave plate had broke which had caused more damage and would cost $3400. the repairman said this has happened in a lot of these motors, so i called gm and they said that at this time there is no recall for this. but if they do i can submit my receipt. i'm hoping that if enough people complain that they will take care of this problem. it could have been a bad situation, because i had my grandson in the car and we could have gotten hit trying to pull out at the stop sign and not been able to get out of the way because the car wouldn't change gears. just google wave plate in a 2010 equinox and see how many complaints you see. when i pay my bill, i will upload the reciept.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while entering a major highway, the transmission failed and the vehicle drastically reduced speed. the contact had to quickly coast the vehicle over to the side of the road where it was unable to be driven. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the contact was waiting to hear back from the manufacturer. the failure mileage was not available. updated 08/16/16*lj updated 10/12/2017*js

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle jerked and failed to accelerate. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be rplaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

My car's transmission failed just over 100000 miles. there was no indication that something was wrong prior to failure. the transmission always shifted rough intermittently, but from what i read, this was not uncommon with this vehicle. as a result, i never pursued the matter. i bought the car new. 100000 miles out of a transmission on a car gently driven unusual. the transmission failed after i exited the freeway, sitting at a stop sign. i went to accelerate and barely got any power. several noises like something snapping or breaking and liquid spraying occured. with almost now acceleration i made it to a parking lot where i shut the car off. reverse, to my surprise, no longer worked when trying to straighten up the car in the parking lot.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving various speeds, the gear shifter began to slip. the contact stated that the vehicle consumed a large amount of oil. the failure was persistent. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the manufacturer stated that since the vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic, they could not assist with reimbursement. the failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

While approaching a stop at an intersection, my car slipped out of gear and began shaking and pulsing as i slowed to a stop. i pulled my car into an empty lot where i discovered i couldn't back up my car. it was towed to the dealer where they informed me the wave plate(35r plate) was damaged and would need to be replaced for a cost of $4,200. service director at the dealer indicated that this was common in these types of transmissions and that there is no indication of when the failure might occur. fortunately, i was traveling at a low rate of speed with no cars around me and was not involved in an accident, only left with a terribly expensive repair.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a loss of power, the vehicle would not shift into gear while being operated, and the abs warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission, abs sensor, and motor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired however the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was contacted however no further assistance was offered. the failure mileage was approximately 115,656.

For the past several months my car has been doing the following: 1. i start my car, and it will rev like i put my foot on the gas. 2. if i am at a stop light/sign my engine will shake and act like it wants to die, but it doesn't. 2. when i turn my car off, it will continue to run for 1-2 more seconds before completely shutting down. i took my vehicle to my mechanic, and he said that the fuel is leaking into the crank case. i have to have the high pressure fuel pump replaced. unfortunately i am over the warranty. all out of pocket. this is extremely dangerous, it could cause an explosion, or fire, and needs to be recalled immediately. this could kill someone.

On june 21, 2015 while on my way home from work, i stopped behind a vehicle that was making a left turn. when i went to accelerate, my vehicle acted like it didn't want to shift. the motor revved up instead. i had a vehicle come up behind me and thankfully they were able to drive into the other lane an go around me, otherwise i would have gotten hit. i managed to get it off the road. had it hauled to the dealer. today i'm told that the transmission, catalytic converter, and the timing chain are all bad and to replace will be $5500. i just replaced the timing chain nov of 2014 at a cost to me of $800. the dealer told me it would be $1500 to fix, so i had it fixed at another repair shop. then i find out while browsing around my onstar account that there are 2 extended warranties for the timing chain. why didn't the dealer know that? now i have to pay for it again because i'm 188 miles past the extended warranty. i called a reputable transmission repair shop to get a quote for the transmission repair. i was told that they repaired 2 of the same vehicle last week and cannot get a gm transmission due to the fact that they are on national backorder because gm knows they are faulty. there should be a recall on this. gm should have to stand behind their products. i will never own another gm vehicle.

No warning prior... my husband and i were running errands and had stopped at home. after backing out of our driveway, he went to put the car in drive and it would not shift. it just sat like it was in neutral. we cut the car off and started it back up and it went into drive. got a 1/10 of a mile down the road and it stopped pulling and seemed to be in neutral again. my husband was able to get it pushed back home. we put about a 1/2 qt of transmission fluid in it, thinking maybe it was low (since you can't check these models with a dipstick). my husband tried backing it out of the driveway and back to see if that helped, at this point it would go into gear but it shifted very hard. that monday we had it towed to the local transmission shop and it wouldn't even go into gear to get it off the truck. it is currently at the transmission shop and i have been told that it is major and we are looking at lots of money to get this repaired.

When driving, my cars transmission hesitates. it feels like its losing power. also feels like there's a misfire. it's very annoying and not sure how chevy can make a transmission like this. this is why i don't buy american vehicles. no dealership will do anything about it. i'm very upset. i'm a single father in the military, i need a decent vehicle and don't make much. can anyone help me?

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle failed to shift out of second gear and the check engine warning light illuminated. while the contact was driving home, the vehicle failed to shift into the reverse position. the vehicle was towed to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the wave plates failed and the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 92,000. updated 09/03/15*lj updated 09/10/15*jb

My 2010 equinox was taken in to my mechanic to check my oil as it was black and smelt burnt and they noticed that i was down to 1/2 qt in less than 500 miles...the last oil change they checked the entire vehicle but found no leaks and suggested to take it in to a chevy dealer...i was under their power train warranty at the time. over the next few months they replaced the fuel pump, front seal, rear seal and numerous oil changes in between... right up till the last week of the power train warranty... i drove the vehicle for another 2000 miles and had to add oil up to 4 quarts every 500 miles...i took it in once again in regards to the oil consumption and they performed the oil consumption test which the vehicle failed miserably. the dealership replaced the pistons and rings in concert with gm's warranty covering the replacement of pistons and rings in regards to this problem. remember my power-train warranty was now out of date due to the dealership pushing the repair always to a later date. this was done in 2/4/2015, in less than two months the oil level has dropped to 1.2 a quart with only 500 miles put on the vehicle since the installation of new pistons and rings. it has now been brought to my attention that according to bulletin pip 5025,(05-16-2012) two items of concern are brought to mind...one the vehicle oil consumption test failed originally, and from all other sources break in period for pistons and rings should take no more than 2000 miles at a loss of 1 qt per 1000 miles. two...i lost 4 quarts in a 500 mile duration. the bulletin also suggest that engines having this problem will not be replaced only repairs will be covered and that zebra stripes on the cylinder walls are not covered on this repair bulletin... it also states that zebra stripes cannot be repaired...if not repaired oil consumption will remain poor. *tr

My wife was driving home from work to eat lunch as with any other day and all of a sudden the vehicle started shaking violently, the check engine light came on along with a "reduced engine power" message and an exclamation mark. i've done a ton of research and have seen this show up as a common issue with many gm models. i found the gm tsb 11273 that describes the exact condition we are having. want to know the problem? my wife's 2010 equinox isn't listed in the tsb!!! i do not understand this at all. i've called gm to explain the situation and they will hear nothing of it and are telling me they will not cover the expense. it makes no sense to me how they admit fault and pick of the cost of the exact same repair on other gm models but they will not pay for the repair on my vehicle for the exact same problem. this is a very dangerous issue and i couldn't even imagine having this issue at a high speed, luckily my wife was only driving in town. this is unacceptable. to make things worse, the vehicle doesn't even have 55,000 miles on it and gm is telling me the 5 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty doesn't even cover this! how much sense does that make? the powertrain is the meat of the vehicle which cannot be utilized if the throttle body is acting up because the vehicle is kicked into reduced power mode! very frustrated with gm's customer service in not acknowledging this issue should be fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle hesitated before moving forward. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle finally failed to accelerate completely. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission was replaced summer of 2014 and august 2016. the computer for the transmission had previously been replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000. the vin was unavailable. updated 05/18/17*lj *tr

Check engine light on for error code "low catalytic converter efficiency ", emissions. manufacturer had volunteer recall for excessive oil consumption. vehicle was burning oil excessively and coated element of catalytic converter. manufacturer replaced piston seals and rings to stop oil consumption but refused to replaced damaged catalytic converter caused by oil consumption. *tr

My cars ch ed ck engine light has popped on and off since i git the car in july and the tpms gauge has been on since the first week i got the vehicle. it was raining and my car began to start initiating thetraction control but my car started to skid and the check engine light came on. i drove for 15 minutes between 35-55 mph and i received an error message about power failure on the car. my car immediately shut down i didn't need an oil change left and i just replenished oil but when i checked it was empty. i put more oil in the car and scheduled an oil change. the technician checked my tires and did the oil change and the car appeared to work fine. 3 days letter i had the same issue. and instead of one tire none of my tires are being read on the car and when traction control is on it rides rough. 5oday alone my car shut off 7 times while i was stuck 9j a major highway. a mechanic in my building looked at my car and said that there is oil leaking onto the engine block as well. *tr

I am losing a lot of oil within the 3000 miles before i change it. my car is losing power it stalls it runs very loudly and it knocks a little. i put at least 12 quarts of oil every 3000 miles and it's not leaking because i checked the top and the bottom of the motor and there is no sign of oil anywhere not even out of my tail pipe. *tr

I started the vehicle the stabilitrac and engine light came on. the car would not move forward more than a half mile per hour. had to have it towed to dealer. i bought this vehicle 1 month ago pre owned from the dealer. it had gone thru the general motors 117 point inspection test before i bought it... i only put on 1000 miles since i purchased it. *js

Vehicle was at a stop awaiting movement of traffic, when it would not move or go into gear other than park. since purchasing this vehicle for keffer automotive (charlotte, nc) in 2012 we've had to replace the throttle body, engine, and compressor. now it appears that there is another major mechanical flaw. either the manufacturer or dealer should be responsible for such a poorly made vehicle. *tr

I was driving in the highway 93, when suddenly the wheel start to be very hard, at this moment i was trespassing other car and for very close i couldn't complete the operation. i almost hit the other car, could cause a very bad accident because the speed. unfortunately everything end okay, i was able to control the car and stop in a safety place. *js

Over the course of the past two years, the transmission steadily shifted harder and harder, sometime the gears wouldn't shift up, or down without a 3~5 second delay at speeds of 30mph or 50mph. around mar 18 2014, we were going up a hill going roughly 50mph all of a sudden, there was an external electrical noise, and seconds after, the car wouldn't shift into gear. after getting off the freeway, the car would not shift out of 1st gear, and was in limp mode. we took the car to the dealer the day after and was told the 3-5-reverse wave plate or also commonly referred to as clutch plate shattered and the pieces got into the gears and torn up all the gears with it. the car was still just right under the power train warranty so the dealer replaced the wave plate and the broken gears. but make no mistake, this is a common problem. gm claimed they "supposedly" improved this old problem post 2009 models, however, countless 2010+ chevy equinoxes, traverse, and gmc terrain, and acadia are still encountering failing transmission because of this very specific 3-5-reverse wave plate issue. just google for "chevy equinox transmission wave plate", or "gm 3 5 reverse wave plate" you'll see countless gmc, chevy 2010+ owners still encountering pre-mature transmission failures due to this very exact issue. if you take all the average transmission failures from all the 2010+ vehicles, you'll see that the transmission would fail on average anywhere between 60,000~150,000. this is not acceptable, and it should be listed as an official recall!! *tr

Transmission is failing. transmission type is 6t40. it appears to be either the wave plate or the reverse drum. according to several service centers, there have been continuing issues with this transmission as well as other versions. i do know that chevy has extended the warranty on the engine due to a "concern" over the lower timing chain tensioner. i do not know what percentage of vehicles need to fail before gm would be forced to do something but they obviously know there is an issue because gm/dealerships have agreed to cover some costs for customers that were the original owners after 100k miles. according to my service center, the transmissions seem to begin failing between 80mk and 110k. unfortunately for me, i am 3% beyond being covered. *tr

No oil on the dipstick after 3 months and 3000 miles since they replaced my drive chain and added oil i experienced no heat and transmission irregularity. added 4 qts of oil and called chevy dealer. took it in and they are replacing the rings and valves which were leaking oil into the crankcase and i was burning the oil. it will take a week to fix. they gave me a free rental car. i am concerned that this may have caused some damage to the engine. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 55 mph, the oil warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed. the contact was informed that the vehicle was low on oil. in addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer a second time where it was diagnosed that the piston needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. while driving approximately 50 mph, there was a noise coming from the engine and the engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain and transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000. *tr

At about 40,000 miles noticed that vehicle was loosing or using oil. carried to the shop and no problem could be found. at 50,000 miles engine started knocking and engine light came on. carried to the shop, found that timing chain bracket had broken. replaced timing chain, bracket , and gaskets. two months later check engine light appears again. take it to shop. ran die through engine to find out where oil loss is , checked timing chain again, changed oil, checked fuel pump, reading for check engine light was o2 sensor but nothing was done about it. it's been three weeks and check engine light is on again. car computer first sayed stabilizer bar needed checking. got that light off and car will at least go over 30miles per hour but check engine light is still on. got to carry it back to the garage. something really needs to be done for the consumers that own a 2010 equinox. this is just ridiculous. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the engine, the transmission wave plate, and the gear shift selector had failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the components needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failures. the failure mileage was 55,000.

Car stalls with no warning, stalled in mid right turn, on freeway, on narrow 2 lane road. dealer wants me to drive car with a monitor in it so i can press button when stall occurs, this while trying to keep control of the vehicle. have had issue with metal shavings in oil, timing chain, excessive use of oil. *tr

I have experienced nothing but issues with my 2010 equinox. it has been in the shop many times regarding the oil level being low and a loud noise and transmission getting stuck and slipping. also experiencing gas smell while i'm driving or when i come to a complete stop. also it's not normal for the engine to lose 3 quarts of oil out of 5qts within 3000 miles. started noticing the lost of oil may of 2013. took it to the shop and they replace the engine and other parts that go along with that repair. july of 2013 same problem occur again, lost of oil again, and then they replace front drive axle inner shaft seal. also took the car back to the shop for oil lost on dec.31, 2013 for losing 3 qts oil out of 5qts. they tell us that there is nothing wrong. they said they inspected it for oil leaks, but if they would of check the oil dip stick they would have seen the lost of 3qts of oil. also i have pictures that i took of the oil dip stick showing only 2qts of oil on dec.17 2013. also we have contacted gm and no help from them. i've investigated this problem i learned that i?m not the only one experiencing the same problem across the united states. also on the invoice that i received they did not do an oil consumption test which involves more than just checking for leaks? seem like there not following the service procedures. it's obviously an internal defect in the 2.4 liter engine that causes it to burn that much oil. also i have all my papers when i took it to the shop. also they gave us a copy of the multi-point inspection where it indicates the fuel system, engine, transmission, drive axle; transfer case requires attention soon, wow you think that's why my transmission is slipping. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle started jerking when driving at highway speeds. the failure recurred sporadically until the vehicle stalled. the contact stated that when the vehicle stalled, the gear shifter would not move. the contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer, but was not told what caused the failure. the failure and the current mileage was 55,000. *tr

My 2010 chevy equinox started to slow down after giving trouble regarding getting into gear. i was able to pull over on the hwy and turn off the engine. when i attempted to turn the engine back on it started to make a swirling noise like a plane powering down. car refuses to go into gear at the dealership after if it was towed. *tr

Start-up noise coming from engine, sounds very similar to running a diesel. vehicle is experiencing rough idle, or near stalling/complete stall out at a low throttle opening. check engine light came on throwing codes p0014 and p0011. vehicle is also burning through at least 2 quarts of oil each week and not receiving the expected amount of gas mileage (only about 1/2). these issues are very similar to those recorded for recall 11195a on the 2011 equinox model with the 2.4l engine. my 2010 is no longer covered under gm's powertrain warranty and would like to see this recall extended for the 2010 models as i am not the only one experiencing these problems. http://chevroletforum.com/forum/equinox-23/yet-another-2010-equinox-burning-oil-stalling-51192/ http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f53/2011-equinox-cold-start-engine-noise-102947/index4.html. *tr

While driving in heavy rain with the windshield wipers on high, the windshield wiper transmission failed and the wipers disconnected from the drive and stopped all the way left with the driver side wiper hanging off the vehicle and visible from the driver side window. with no visibility from the front window, made an emergency stop to exit the expressway almost causing an accident with the cars around me. *tr

After about a year of owning this vehicle, we have experienced several issues with engine related problems starting in 2011 to current recent issue on 30/2014. we have been to the dealer for several "repairs" and have continued to have additional problems. on several occasions the vehicle has stalled while driving, engine shifts hard/delayed while driving, excessive oil loss between oil changes. oil is changed and added before every 3,000 miles or sooner in recent months due to low oil and engine making "knocking" sound. took vehicle to dealer for recent noise and engine light. they are stating it needs engine work done for oil being "burned" in engine through the exhaust in excess of $1600. listed several items that need repair in conjunction with this issue. *tr

It started with the check engine light would come on and the stabilitrak light coming on sometimes. and you hear a rough idle.and a horrible rattling noise was coming from the engine while parked and. when i drove the car when accelerating it sounded worse as if i was driving a diesel truck. and the car would stay on for about 2 to 3 seconds after i turned the car off. so i dropped the car off at the dealer they checked it with a scanner and they got the p0172 - too rich error code. and they saw for themselves the car stayed on after turning off the car and the rattling noise it was making. after 2 days i picked up the car coalition??t hear the rattling noise as much.you could still hear the rattling but very slightly the check engine light was off. after a week driving my car you can hear the rattling noise very, very little. they fixed the rattling noise somewhat it was covered ( by power train warranty) however both the check engine light and the stabilitrak light came back on. and the car still would stay on for about 2 to 3 seconds after i turned the car off. and sometimes when i start my car it would rev up has if i step on the gas pedal and then it will drop to normal. all issues were not resolved still having problems with check engine light stabilitrak light on and the car staying on. for a few seconds. after turn off the car. took it back to the dealership now they are saying they found that it is a problem with the high pressure fuel pump and the body throttle. not functioning correctly. this may cause gas to leak into the oil. i did some research this is a common problem with the 4 cyl equinox. the dealership said the repair would not be under the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. *tr

Equinox starts powering down occasionally during acceleration through hard right turns and, once, during a soft bump against a curb. dashboard lights turn off, engine dies, etc. can be restarted from stop. we had been able to duplicate the problem, but haven't been able to do so at the dealership, so it remains unfixed. we are concerned about the safety of driving a vehicle that may power down during a hard right turn and heavy acceleration. we now intentionally accelerate slowly and cautiously through right turns. we worry that we will get in a situation where, for instance, we'll need to turn out of the way of a semi trailer and our car will power down, putting us in great danger. *tr

I had been having oil consumption problems, like many other owners of 2010 equinoxes and was undergoing an oil consumption test. was driving on i-81s on a 500 mile trip. when i started the car after stopping for gas, it idled very roughly. foolishly, i got back on the interstate, thinking that maybe a higher speed would help. the car would not get up to a safe speed and completely stalled out about a quarter mile from the exit, leaving me stranded (by myself) 150 miles from my destination. was towed 70 miles to a dealership who replaced the timing chain, tensioner and fuel pump. this dealer stated the problem was due to low oil level as well as dirty oil. i incurred an unexpected $1200 bill and was without my car for a week. my home dealership replaced my engine 2 weeks ago and i received reimbursement for the repair bill. i am pleased, presently, with the response from gm, but it required persistence. although i have had my present problem rectified, i'm reporting this problem as many, many others have been experiencing this same problem with varying responses from gm. i've also experienced some shifting problems as well, but the engine problem took precedence, so i'm waiting to see if the transmission problem continues! *tr

This car started giving me trouble the very week i git it. it was stalling and has this loud raspy sound. the dealership basin subaru said it is suppose to make that noise. i had to have it towed to chevrolet. the kept it for a month. put a rebuilt transmission in the car. still has the raspy sound, just had the fuel pump replaced after the check engine light came on. one day later the check engine light back on. they replaced some solenoid sensor. the ac blows out a weird mist. air condition not working properly. that awful rattle noise is still there. just holding my breath for the next thing to break down. bought this care 2 years ago and i cant get rid of it. *tr

Purchased 4/2010 1 at a red light, car idled really rough, then all of the dash lights came on. i drove straight to the dealership. they checked it out and said i needed a new fuel pump. i had about 47,000 miles. 2. oil consumption - the first time this happened i was hearing a funny noise when i turned left coming from the engine. my boyfriend checked the oil the next morning to find no oil on the dipstick. we put in 2 qts then when the dealer ship opened i took it in. they told me they could not find any internal or external leaks so bring in weekly for oil consumption test (i was about 1500 miles since my oil change that was done at the same time the fuel pump was replaced) drove out of town to visit family (about 2000 miles after oil change) after driving 200 miles heard the noise again checked the oil.......2 qts low. added oil and took to local dealership. no problems found related to oil, but did find another alert that needed to be completed when i got home related to the water pump tensioner. gm customer service again , but only was told to wait until my next scheduled oil change and start consumption tests again. 3. i pod jack - worked fine for the first 2 years, but then would cause all center console lights to go out, could not operate radio or a/c. 4. stalling - i have only had this problem once but it was as i was turning left across 3 lanes of traffic! 5. jerky transmission - the first time this issue happened it jerked so hard i thought i hit something. took it to the dealership and was told, like others it was the transmission "learning" me. the transmission codes were updated and problem only occurs occasionally 6. drivers seat lumbar support airbladder - has popped and had to be replaced two times. *tr

I started hearing a knocking noise at 28000 miles. had serviced but after several miles noise started again. noise continues so service is needed(10-2-13). i had several gaskets, seal, bolts, fuel pump(which was leaking raw fuel into inside of engine), balance chain, timing chain, guide for timing chain(which guide and debris fell in oil pan), and two tensioner replaced as well as oil life monitor recall update. here i am nearly 3 months later and my 2010 equinox is in shop(12-31-13) and can't be driven do to loud noises, lose of power fuel and oil, as well as stalling and check engine light being on continually. i did extensive research and found thousands of people with same year and model equinox as mine to be having same problems as mine at same mileage. i found that the engine needs to be replaced because of damage done by leaking fuel pump. so no matter what work is done or what is replaced problems still keep happening because damage is all ready done to inside of engine and the entire engine should be replaced. please help, this is a major problem that effects thousands and nothing is being done for us owners. those who are lucky to get their engine replaced don't get an accurate warranty and after several miles the new engine starts having the same issues. please help!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact was driving 15 mph and down a steep hill when the gear failed to engage. the contact had to abruptly depress the brakes repeatedly in order for the gears to respond. the contact stated that the gears would only shift from first to third, but not shift into any lower gears when attempting to decelerate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that they were unable to duplicate the failure. the computer was reset yet the failure continued to recur. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 27,000. the consumer stated the vehicle would not shift into lower gear, most of the time. updated 10/24/11

I had already processed a vehicle complaint a few months ago. this is the fifth time my vehicle has been in the shop with chevrolet. two of the five times (so far) they were only able to make two repairs, and were certain they have solved the problem. the most recent occurrence was april 29th. i had just picked my car up from thomas chevrolet after being serviced for the same incident the past 4 times, with their assurance my vehicle was safe to drive. my boyfriend and i were driving on i-95 south towards baltimore, when my car gave out. the rpms went up and down, tach was accelerating up to 8-9 and my speedometer read 0mph. at the time we were going 65mph, and then next thing we know the car automatically decelerated 35mph. my boyfriend had no control over the acceleration of the vehicle. we were in a 5-lane highway and had to safely get over 4 lanes. we were almost killed/severely injured multiple times by cars/trucks, while trying to get over the lanes. this is the fifth time this has occurred and third time i had almost lost my life. i am in severe need of assistance. chevrolet has told me multiple times "nothing is wrong with my car, and assured my safety". this car is defected and i am unsure as to how to prove chevrolet it is unsafe. the thought of continuing to drive this vehicle is horrifying. what is it going to take to show them? my life? please advise me. *tr

2010 chevrolet equinox. consumer writes in regards to timing chain recall did not fix the problem. *smd the consumer stated the timing chain was installed on april 24, 2013. five months later, the vehicle was running rough, stalling and shaking and rattling while it was in idle. he received a recall notice for the timing chain. the service department informed him, the recall was serviced during the april 24, 2013 visit. on november 22,2013 another timing chain was installed. the consumer has experienced several problems with the vehicle, since april 2011. the dealer replaced a worn compressor, the balance shaft chains, oxygen sensor, high pressure fuel pump, intake actuator, intake solenoid and the transfer case.*jb

Have owned my car now for 6 months and nothing but issues. it sees the dealer more then i can enjoy it. if one more update is done and i am told the problem is fix and really it isn't then my frustration will continue. from the oil leak, transmission decline rough, engine noise, key gets stuck in ignition, fuel gage and starting issues i wish i could get rid of this car and never buy chevy again. if i had not sold my other car i would put this up for sale and walk away. there has to be something to fix these issues as this was not a cheap car. it only has 52 thous miles and i will go back to mazda where my suv went to 285 thous with normal maintenance not major issues or my tahoe that i sold at 189 thous and no problems. i wish i had purchased another mazda at this point. how do we get this problems resolved once and for all? this is crazy!i am not sure if a lawyer is the answer but i would hope that its not. i am sick of getting renals, being late to work to drop it off and shuttle. i bought this to have a car to drive not to take to the dealer over and over. the engine seal was already replaced and the problems are worse or not better at all. seems to be known problems with 2010 so why is it that they are not getting fixed on our cars. i am happy to get my 27 thousand back and get a car that is not a clunker junk. While driving on level pavement at 65 mph, with my cruise control on, all of a sudden, the vehicle downshifted 2 gears, and the tach rose to 5300 rpms. i tapped the brake pedal, and it disengaged the cruise and proceeded in a normal condition. *tr
