Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 5 mph pulling into a service station, the vehicle started to jerk violently. the contact shifted the gear into park. when she attempted to shift the gear into reverse, the gear shifter failed to go into reverse. the engine warning indicator illuminated with failure code: p0776. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic (fisher transmission) where it was diagnosed that the piston ring, snap ring, and 3-5r wave plate were detached with metal shelving and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under the warranty. the manufacturer did not offer further assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 113,000. updated 11/07/17*lj *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving at a low speed in rush hour traffic, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. after approximately two seconds, the transmission engaged and the vehicle slammed into gear. the contact was able to get the vehicle off of the roadway safely. the contact stated that vehicle was cycled off and back on and it operated normally momentarily; however, the failure recurred. also, while attempting to traverse a hill, the transmission became inoperable and caused the vehicle to roll backwards. the vehicle was towed to bill kay chevrolet (located at 601 ogden ave, lisle, il 60532; tel: 603-968-2900) to be diagnosed. the contact stated that the vehicle was currently still being diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 57,000.

Driving on highway snap ring in transmission broke and jammed in gears causing car to suddenly stop and near accident,,,,known problem in this 6 speed auto.

I started to drive to a meeting during evening rush hour and the car would not accelerate when i stepped on the gas pedal. heard the engine rev, but the car would not move. i was able to drive it to the dealer in manual mode at a slow speed. the dealer said they would have to replace the transmission control module, which is inside the transmission, to find out if there is mechanical failure. after replacing the control module, they said that the car still would not move, and that they would have to take the transmission apart. cost to replace three pistons and forward clutch friction plates would be $3844 plus tax. the car is a 2010 chevy equinox lt awd with 89000 plus miles. regular driving on highway and city roads in florida. i called chevy customer service and they declined to offer any compensation for the transmission stating my car was out of warranty. i have found several online forums with a lot of dissatisfied consumers having the same issue with transmission failure. this is a safety issue and a known problem for many years that has been neglected by chevy. in my opinion the transmission failure experienced by so many consumers should warrant an investigation/recall by national highway transportation safety authority.

Car vibrates vigorously at speeds between 10-25 mph. hard to control in city driving

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while idling at a red light, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal and the rpms increased to 5,000. the vehicle barely moved and would not engage in gear. the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact moved the vehicle to the side of the road, engaged in neutral, waited approximately five minutes, and then engaged in drive. the vehicle returned to normal except it did not go into third gear or reverse. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 153,000.

Just driving home from huntsville, al airport took off from stop sign on a main artery street in the city and my rpm gauge just climbed like crazy and i was not moving very fast so i pulled off main road. i came to a complete stop and tried taking off again it seemed like it was going to be o.k. so i pulled backed onto road when traffic cleared and tried to accelerate and the same thing happened again so know at this point the transmission was slipping pretty bad without any warning i limped it home and called dealer he they told me to bring it in and they would check and addvise for $95.00 they said it wasnt covered under warranty i had 85000 miles on it. they diagnosed the trans had to be replaced at a cost of $4700.00 i could not afford that so i had to have it towed to a local trans shop for repairs. ends up its a 6speed automatic trans and the repair shop had to replace the 1/3/5 drum some kind of plate broke inside the housing the owner of the tran shop said it a real problem gm had 2008/09/10 they have an updated drum and snap ring for repaires. i feel like chevrolet should be responsable at least for some of repair cost. thats my story.

While driving on city streets, my gas pedal became unresponsive. the car began to slow down. unable to keep my speed, i was unable to make a stoplight and had to stop. while my foot was on the brakes, the rpm for my vehicle were steadily at 6-7000. as the light turned green, i put my foot on the gas pedal, received a jolt as if the car was accelerating, but was slowly making my way up to 20 mph. as the time took near 30 seconds to make the climb on a flat road to 20 mph, i decided for my safety to hit my emergency flashers. around that time, the check engine light came on. i pulled to a side street and hit 'onstar'. they were able to give me two codes that appeared. p0776 and p0700. while talking to onstar, my car was in park and again the engine was pushing 7000 rpms. i was barely able to make it to my house as the car was barely able to maintain it's speed. the next morning i was curious if i was able get the car out of my driveway or if it could move in a forward motion. i was forced to push my car out of my driveway as i could not go in reverse at all and again i noticed that the car could barely move forward. after having my car returned from specialist in transmissions, they gave me pictures of what they found. which i included five with the complaint. the issue after talking to the dealership is a very common problem and by reading those two codes were able to instruct me the parts that broke inside the transmission without opening it up or checking the transmission fluid.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 35 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle started to decelerate with the engine rpms at 6,000 when the contact removed his foot from the accelerator pedal. in addition, the vehicle failed to reverse and the "d" on the instrument panel was blinking. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact also stated that onstar produced codes p0776 and p0700. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 79,300. ..updated 08/30/17 *bf *cn

I own a 2010 chevy equinox. i was having some issues with my stabilitrak, abs breaks and my all wheel drive. i took it to the dealership and they hooked it up to the computer. they told me i needed a new right front hub and my catalytic converter replaced. so i made an appointment to have the catalytic converter taken care of as it is a problem chevy pays for. the next day i was driving to work and i noticed my car wasn't shifting. i stopped and had a tow to the dealership. they fixed the converter and put a speed sensor in my transmission because my car simply wouldn't move. i picked up my car after them having it for two weeks. that day i noticed it was shifting extremely hard going from 3rd to 4th gear. i purchased a new hub and a new wheel speed sensor and had them installed. while leaving the garage that installed these new parts i stopped at a red light. when it turned green i pushed the gas peddle and my car just sat there and revved. i turned off and back on and was able to get it back to the garage and there it sat, refusing to do anything but revv. since this has started i have done some research and found many complaints of the exact same problem for the same make and model. if this is a common problem within this specific transmission i think it needs to be looked into.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle jerked and a warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle later shut down in the middle of the road and was towed to a dealer. the dealer diagnosed and replaced the transmission. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000. updated 06/07/17*lj updated 06/09/17 *js

Multiple trips to the dealer. solenoid problem, air bag, engine light on, broken chain, fuel pump injector, leaking sun roof, as of 3/6/2017 i need a transmission. my car was purchased in 2010, i only have 31,000 miles on it. iv'e visited the dealer jan, feb, and march of 2017. i feel i should be compensated with a new car!!!! jan, f car

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 10 mph, while the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate without warning. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the reverse snap ring failed and the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 88,889.

I bought a 2010 equinox new, at 49,000 miles the transfer case went out of it and now 6 months later at 55,000 miles the transmission went out it was the 3-5 revervse wave plate we were told that shattered. and since it was out of warranty of course gm would not honor to get this plate fixed even though it only had 55,000 miles on it. we were told these plates when they were harden they were harden to hard and so they shatter. this is defiantly a gm issue and they should repair these at no cost but they won't admit there is a problem. this transmission just happened all at once i put it in gear and there it went out. if gm is going to build a throw away car at 50,000 miles then they should sell it as a throw away car. they know they have transmission problems but they keep socking the consumer for costly repairs because all they can say is it's out of warranty. you would think your car would last more than 55,000 miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the transmission failed while driving 25 mph. the vehicle was unable to accelerate. the dealer could not diagnose or repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 67,000.

I experienced sudden deceleration while driving on the interstate in winter conditions. many near accidents occurred while i struggled to maintain control and exit the interstate as soon as possible. loud knocking from the engine and a strong gas smell immediately followed. the engine stalled several times when i came to a complete stop, such as intersections as i went straight to a nearby chevrolet dealer. i was informed the rear main seal blew out causing a sudden loss of oil pressure. they also said this happened due to high positive pressure in the crankcase due to a frozen or blocked pcv valve. gm is aware of the issue as stated in the general motors service bulletin 14882. however, gm says my vin does not apply in this case. due to the severity of the issue, i felt it was important to let someone know so other people with similar vehicles could be notified of the extreme hazard. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle was able to be in motion without the key in the ignition. also, when the gear was shifted into park, it was not fully in gear so the contact constantly had to check. the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 16v502000 (electrical system, power train). in addition, water entered various areas of the vehicle and the electronic stability traction control warning indicator randomly illuminated. the vehicle also rolled backward and forward without warning and the hatch came down unexpectedly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the multiple failures. the failure mileage was not available.

We were just getting to the end of highway entry ramp and we could not gain speed and the engine revved up very high beofre it started slowing down. put the car in manual mode but could not shift into 3rd gear. we were forced into entering the highway at roughly 30mph.

While driving on city streets the car would not accelerate even though the rpms where climbing. it finally coasted the remaining 2 blocks home where all gears except 2nd were completely gone. the vehicle will have to be towed to the dealership for a $4500.00 bill to replace the transmission. this vehicle has already had the motor, fuel injection system, and timing chain replaced due to the excessive oil consumption recall. due to the many complaints i have seen logged as well as the open recall on other 2010 equinoxes and traverses i would think there would be an open recall on my vin but there isn't. i wish i'd never bought this car and i will not be a repeat gm customer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the transmission stalled at 40 mph while driving on the highway. the vehicle was towed to a mechanic where they diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 56,000. updated 03/17/17*lj *cn

Brought my suv in delership for recalls from 12/5/2016. it's been in for mutiplable recalls plus oil consumption recall now received my car back had it for 2 days now service department telling me my transmission wave plate needs to be replaced. service department had returned my car saying everything was fine to drive let me leave in it knowing they knew this would happen. very upset plus am out around $800 dollars thought these recalls were covered nope had to come out of my pocket. now they want $4374.69!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 60 mph with the accelerator pedal depressed, the contact heard an abnormally loud sound coming from the hood of the vehicle. the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fluid in the transmission had burned out and metal shards were discovered in the transmission, which needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000. updated 01/27/17*lj updated 7/16/18 *jb *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle downshifted without warning. in addition, the vehicle would not shift into reverse when prompted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 98,000.

My vehicle starts own its own and know i have the engine light on and the air conditioning turns on own its own!!!! please help.

Transmission went out after 46,000 miles. gears slipping. would not go into reverse. defective 3-5-r wave plate possibly. driving home from work.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle failed to shift into third gear properly. the contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the 3-5 reverse clutch plate failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 89,431.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle's speed began to decrease while the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

Was driving home from the grocery store around 35 mph and the transmission slipped, coasted a couple hundred feet, downshifted really hard and started marking noise. it then came to a stop and lost 1st gear. the car did not want to move in reverse. we were luckily able to get the car off the road before it completely locked up. after that, it wouldn't even go into neutral. the transmission locked up. the dealer called today and confirmed that it needs a new transmission. *tr

Bought the car used and only put about 20k miles on it and transmission went out.

Wasn't informed about the excessive oil consumption. letter never made it to my house. excessive oil consumption has caused the catalytic converter to fail prematurely . chevy issued a special warranty but it disqualifies you if you have more 120k miles. chevy has known about this issues since 2011 but intentionally waited to issue special bulletin because they wanted to disqualify as many people as possible.. the service rep told me since i didn't pay the previous repair (which were manufacturer defects) that i am basically responsible for the repairs. this car has had over 4 major repairs that were due to manufacturer defects but the rep is saying that since i'm the original owner they won't assist me. i told her the issue is with the car, it has nothing to do with the ownership which is why you're issuing all the special warranties. none of the major repairs that were done on this car are listed in the vehicle history report on carfax or on the gm owner site where it states that such reports will appear. i got the service report from the dealership when i saw the sales associate with it. i told the rep had the information about the excessive oil consumption been listed on my chevy profile i would have had the issue fixed thus saving the catalytic converter. she still claimed it was sent. the catalytic converters need to be recalled without exception. honda replaced my cracked my engine block no questions asked! they have honored ever warranty i've ever had and fixed every manufacturer defect without drama. i cannot say that about chevy. they have caused me nothing but stress over issues they created and have gotten away with it and today i just learned that my car now has a fuel pump recall.

The check engine light came on while driving with code p0017 crankshaft position - camshaft position correlation (bank 1 sensor b). the next day while driving two more codes came on including p0700 and p182e (i have on obd reader). at that moment the engine continued to run but the transmission appeared to go into a neutral condition. this occured while driving @ 30 mph. i was able to coast to the side of the street. at that point i could rev the engine but their was no forward drive to move the vehicle. after letting the car sit in an off condition for a couple of minutes, i was the able to restart the vehicle and drive home. i then brought the car to the dealer for further diagnostics as there are several components which could cause this error code. the dealer then concluded that the timing chain had apparently stretched and was causing the camshaft position sensor to trip. i was told that the repair was very extensive and of course costly as the motor has to be removed from the vehicle in order to replace the stretched timing chain. i started researching the error code online and came across a service bulletin (sb-10052863-6133) published in 2014 by general motors detailing a newer timing chain kit that was released to address this stretching issue. several general motors models are included in the bulletin as they all utilize the same v6 3.0 liter engine as what is in my equinox. my major gripe is that the consumer should have been made aware of the potential premature failure of the timing chain sooner, before the warranty period expired. general motors had a similar issue with timing chain failures in their 4 cylinder 2.4 liter engines and an official recall was done for that engine. i feel this same condition is now started to affect the v6 3.0 liter as well.

I have 72615 miles on my car. i just had to have the transmission replaced. the transmission mechanic at aamco said it was because of wave plate failure. my car has a 6t45e transmission. the cost to have this replaced was $3,414.43 and in his professional opinion this should not have failed at this low mileage. this failure happened all of a sudden. i had never had any problems until the day it went out completely.

Wave plate the wave plate blew up in our transmission leaving us with a $5000 bill on a vehicle with only 76000 miles. the wave plate on 2010 chevy equinox's has been recalled by specific vin numbers by gm but for whatever reason my vin is not on the recall list. it should be and i shouldnt be paying a 5000$ bill. our vehicle came to a complete stop in the middle of the highway with my 2 year old and 4 year old in the car. my husband and a kind gentleman had to push the vehicle out of the roadway.

We purchased this vehicle in dec 2014 at 42,000 miles as a certified pre owned $15000 cash. the vehicle started experiencing engine trouble in july 2016 it we were in the process of of diagnostics for excess oil consumption and engine repair. after the care broke down on a major highway with my children in the backseat. aug 2016 the car stalls again on the highway with my children in it. the transmission has failed. we havent even owned the vehicle for 2 years. it only has 76,000 miles on it. but gm says its past the 5 year warranty mark by 8 months so they wont help. i am not the only person having these issues with this make and model. there are stories all over the internet where people have stalled on highways from this issue! it needs to ge recalled. this is a death trap. we could have been seriously injured ow worse. unfortunately thats what it takes now a days for a company to care.

While driving in a residential neighborhood, the car began to maintain an rpm level of 5,000 and would not go above 25 mph. got the car home and took it to the dealer. the car was diagnosed with a failed 3 5 wave plate. when test driving the vehicle to diagnose the problem, the dealer informed me that the transmission failed completely. the wave plate had begun to deteriorate and metal particles were floating in the transmission fluid. the car had just under 40,000 miles on it but it is 6 years old so it is out of the warranty. chevy offered minimal price assistance. this issue with the 3 5 wave plate was a known issue on 2008 and 2009 models and an extended warranty was issued by chevy. the problem was supposed to be resolved for 2010 models, but here we are with the same issue. this is a major safety issue and needs to be corrected.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 45 mph, the shifter did not engage and the vehicle became inoperable. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 92,222.

2010 chevy equinox transmission failure. i am surprise there are so many complaints about the 2010 equinox and gmc has not responded. i have the 2014 and 2010 equinox models and i bought both new. i am now worried that i have too many cars made by gm. i have had problems with my 2010 equinox for years but nothing close to the current transmission problem. my current mileage is 92,222. i was on the highway when it appeared my car skidded. i then changed lane to be safe. next thing i know, the car rpm soared but the car would not drive. essentially, the car acted as if it was on neutral when on drive. i then turned of the engine and restarted it and the car drove about 2 poles but would not further engage the transmission. i was stranded with my 8 year old son by the highway shoulder. i had the car towed to the dealer. several hours later, i am being told that the wave plate in the transmission was broke and that i had to wait several days to know what other damage resulted. with the same car, i have had numerous problem with the bearings and frequent airbag problems. the car does not ride well like the 2014 model. for some months now, there has been an annoying low rpm noise at low speed that the tech could not diagnose. i am now wondering if it was the transmission failing all along. the same annoying sound is now occurring in the 2014 equinox. it begs the question of whether there is a pervasive quality problem with gm vehicles. to gm, i demand a fix to this 2010 equinox transmission problem. my vin would be readily available. i was shopping for a gm truck but i am having to wait and se

While ramping on to a busy highway in my 2010 chevrolet equinox (67,000 miles) accelerating toward 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly started decelerating and rpms climbed. this resulted in me being nearly rear-ended and i had to quickly guide the car to the shoulder of the road. the engine would only rev in gear and not move forward. i shifted the vehicle to park and turned off the engine. upon restarting the vehicle it seemed as if it had function back. i proceeded a few miles further to a parking lot. at this point, the transmission was not functioning well enough to go further. this is when we called a towing service, and had it towed to the nearest chevrolet dealership. ultimately, we were told that a plate had gone out in the transmission and that this had also destroyed several other components in the transmission. the quote for these repairs was $4600.00. this happened around 67,000 miles on the vehicle and after reporting to the dealership numerous times early in ownership and over multiple visits that the vehicle was making an odd sound coming from the transmission on shifts. we reported these issues way before the 100,000 miles/5 year warranty expired. instead of finding anything wrong with the transmission, the dealership told us that it could be an engine problem and told us to start coming in every 1000 miles for an oil consumption test. i feel that this was a delay tactic to make sure that chevrolet would not have to cover warranty repair of the transmission. i feel that this should have been covered under warranty and that it is a severe safety issue, considering that prior models of the chevrolet equinox had the same problem with transmission plates and the chance for a deadly accident because of the loss of momentum in traffic with no warning.

Getting on the highway the engine started to rev, would not go over 30 miles per hour, no reverse, engine light appeared. almost involved in accident.

2010 chevrolet equinox. consumer writes in regards to excessive oil consumption problems, engine replacement and transmission failure. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle would not accelerate. she was able to make it onto the next road and tried shifting into neutral then back to drive again. the vehicle revved when she stepped on the accelerator. she pulled over into a parking lot, shut the engine off, and re-started it again. the consumer was able to drive two miles to her home, never getting out of first gear, while the engine continued to rev. upon returning home, the consumer attempted to move the vehicle onto the street, out of the driveway, but soon discovered the vehicle would not go in reverse. however, the engine revved. the vehicle was towed to a transmission specialist where the consumer was quoted a price of $ 3,465.90 to replace the transmission. *jb

While driving on an arterial city street approx 50mph the vehicle lunged unexpectedly with a hard knock sound. after slowing at the light the vehicle continued on normally. the next day when the vehicle was put in reverse, to back out of the garage, nothing happened and when the accelerator was pressed still nothing happened. the vehicle was put back into park and then back into reverse again and this time the transmission engaged normally. this happened again later the same day. i took the vehicle to my dealer and described the problem. a technician was able to recreate the issue and stated that it was probably the wave plate cracking in the transmission. he states this has become a very common problem with this make, model and year and when it fully breaks it can do alot of damage. later in the morning the service rep called and stated the wave plate should be replaced and that it would cost $3600. i looked this issue up on the nhtsa website and their are numerous complaints related to this very part within the transmission, many with scary stories of what happened. chevy customer service states that there was a notice put out for model years 2007-2009 but nothing after that for the exact same safety issue. this has become a trend and the wave plate/transmission issues with the 2010 chevy equinox need to be addressed by the dealer before someone is hurt. this needs to be a recall item so that the customer is safe and not stuck with a $4000 repair for something that the manufacturer has identified as an issue on the exact same model but older model years. obviously after identifying the problem nothing was done to correct it in future model years and therefore all those customers are at risk.

While driving on the freeway the power to the car was reduced, was barley able to make it to the side of the road. only had one gear to drive to a safe distance. had vehicle taken to local repair shop and learned that the transmission was shot and that it had to be replaced. there was no signs or indications of there ever being any issues with the transmission. vehicle is up to date with all services recommended by chevrolet. these makes and models need to be recalled for the transmission as i have noticed that this is a common issue with this year, make & model of vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 40 mph, the transmission failed. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the contact also stated that there was excessive oil consumption with no safety defect. the contact stated that there was an abnormal grinding noise emitted from the engine. the contact also stated that the air conditioning unit and windshield defroster failed to operate as intended. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact was informed that the air conditioning evaporator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

My 2010 chevy equinox started with an oil consumption problem 86,000 miles may 2016 all new pistons, rings, high pressure fuel pump timing chain and seals covered on gm extended warranty. 1 month later the tranny goes 87,000 mi towed car to dealer they are telling me i have no warranty will cost anywhere from $3-5,000. all i read is bad news about this transmission.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the vehicle vibrated severely and an unknown sound was heard from the rear of the vehicle. the failure recurred whenever the vehicle was operated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle failure mileage was 125,000.

Number one excessive oil started at about 55,000 miles. number two excessive engine noise from timing chain and cam seizures. number three transmission failure 52,000 miles. number 4 wiper transmission failure at approximately 48000 miles number 5 check engine light on due to faulty cam actuators.

I bought a 2010 equinox jan9,2016 from vic canever in fenton mi for 10320 on may26,2016 i just dropped of my son and grandson and was on my way home on the expressway when my transmission all of a sudden went out as i was driving. i almost got into a bad wreck and could of possibly lose my life. when i finally got ,y vehicle towed and inspected at bill's transmission shop in roseville mi i was shown the color of my transmission fluid which was charcoal black and thick. i contacted general motors and made a complaint and was contacted by mike agnone who's the senior customer service manager and brandon who's the used car manager. i was told i'll have to come up with 2500 to go towards a new transmission. what they don't understand that i'm on a set income and don't have no money. general motors needs to recall all the equinox's. i have done my research and found nothing but bad things about them and all years.

I have a 2010 chevy equinox and in late march while driving our young children; our transmission blew up. when i say blew up, i mean it literally exploded and my husband started to lose control of the vehicle. we were stranded and had to get it towed. when we brought it into the mechanic he said he would do what he could to try to "re-build" it and perhaps save us some money. once he opened the hood; he said he could not believe his eyes and said it was not possible to salvage anything about this transmission and we pd.$4,000 to get this part repaired. he mentioned he had never seen anything like it in 30 years. when i went online i saw several different people with the same issue for the same make and model transmission. they, and myself have sent concerned letters to gm, however; gm will not hold any accountability for this issue although it has happened to so many. i would hope the large amount of online remarks are enough safety concern to work on opening an official investigation to get a recall on this. my truck can be replaced; my children cannot. i do not believe gm has acted in accordance with the national traffic and motor vehicle safety act by initiating a safety recall. i feel an obligation to reach out to try to help others with the same situation to try to prevent dangerous accidents and save lives that could be taken as a result to this faulty transmission explosion.

Exited freeway on flyover, accelerating from 20-25mph on the downgrade to other freeway noticed that while speed had increased to 45-50mph, rpm's were high. immediately pulled over, shifted to p, idled normal. merged back in, again got high rpms, turned on hazard flashers, took off-ramp. shifted to manual, gear indicator showed '2' and would not manually upshift to '3'. pulled over, turned off car, waited 30 secs, restarted. cautiously got back on frontage road, drove for 1 mile in 'd' at 30mph, seemed ok, got back on highway, gently accelerating up to 65mph. drove the next 6 miles on highway, exited for neighborhood. drove down primary boulevard at 35mph for 2 miles. turned at 5mph to start accelerating up steep hill into neighborhood, immediately felt slippage and high-revs. pulled over, waited for clear traffic, switched to manual shift, accelerated up hill in 1st, no problem; shifted to 2nd at 20mph, no problem; shifted to 3rd at 30mph, immediately high revs and slippage; switched back to 2nd; accel'd to 35mph in 2nd then shifted to 4th,engine lugged down but held and continued to accelerate and hold speed no problem. shifted back to 3rd, started slipping and high revs again. switched back to 2nd and drove last mile to house at 25mph. drove uphill past house, turned around in neighbors driveway, noticed a loud 'whining' noise, like a tight fan belt or idler that is about to seize. parked, whining noise continued. revved engine a couple of times, noise went up/down with rpm. turned off, went inside to research. found that this is a known issue on older vehicles w/ 6t70/6t75 transmission. the 35r wave plate is known to shatter. gm has issued "#14404: special coverage adjustment - transmission clutch wave plate - (mar 3, 2015)" . only covers older 2007-09 vehicles, this is a safety issue, should cover all vehicles w/these transmissions exhibiting this behavior.
