On 7 feb. 2013 i took my vehicle into my local chevy dealer to have it checked out as there was a constant smell of fuel. i was informed that the fuel tank would need to be dropped to locate the cause of the fuel leak though there was no visible sign of leaking fuel. i was informed that the fuel module that set above the fuel tank had cracked and was causing the smell/leak. i was infomed that to repair the issue it would cost me over $1200.00 to repair. i contacted gm and was informed that my vehicle was not involved in the current recall that is ongoing in four other states. i inquired as to why and was informed that my vehicle was not registered nor did i reside in one of the states and there was nothing they could do. i informed gm that it should not matter as to were i lived that they should recall all equinox as this is a safety issue that should be corrected. i was given reference # from gm in case there is a decision to recall the equinox for this problem. as other complaints have stated it should not matter were the vehicle is registered if there is this type of problem it should be fixed by gm at no cost to the consumer. *tr
Fuel pump is broken from manufacture issue, causing a safety issue, chevy has recalled in certain states however not nationwide.....needs to be a national recall. *tr
The equinox appears to have a fuel system failure. i have looked up equinox recalls and there are over 40,000 of the same year, make model, my vin is not included. the car has a strong gas smell coming from the back of the car. i have read testimony after testimony online of other people with the same year make and model also not being included in the recall. last year we had to replace the egr valve as well and it appears it is in similar circumstance. (registering hundreds of complaints for it's failure as well) we would certainly like gm to make a totally recall on the fuel system failure that is evidentially extremely more wide spread than they are acknowledging. the dealership has said it is more than likely going to have to replace the pump starting at $900, as a teacher this is not a reasonable feat. please help us get this problem fixed for both the fuel system and the egr valve. thanks! *tr
There is a harsh smell of fuel coming from somewhere in the fuel tank area. there is no fuel leaks to be found. when starting the vehicle, the starter seems to stay engaged for a few seconds. *tr
I kept smelling a strong odor of gasoline and even when people would just walk by my vehicle the could smell it. i looked online to see if there was a safety problem like this and there was a recall on my type of vehicle for this very same problem. i called trying to get it fixed without me having to pay for it but they said my vin number was not one that was recalled. i had to get it fixed becuase i was a safety hazard. it cost me $790 and i am a single mother and can't afford to pay for it myself. i think it is only right that i be reimbursed for my costs. *tr

2007 chevrolet equinox registered in az, ca, nv are affected by recall because they may leak gas from fuel pump module. i own the same make, model, and year vehicle with a leaking fuel pump assembly but because my vehicle was not registered in one of the three states its not affected. i find it hard to believe its a coincidence my vehicle has the same problem. i'd like someone to evaluate if this problem exists in all equinox vehicles. *tr

As documented in the following formal - current notices, 2007 equinox has a serious fuel leak problem from the fuel pump, which, as gm notes, may cause a fire if ignition source is present. // gm - chevy - recall id# 93254 // // gm - chevy - service bulletin # 12190 // // nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 // the problem is, they are not covering all vehicles. my 2007 chevy equinox is leaking fuel from the fuel pump - but gm/chevy is not replacing, as my vin is not covered. this is obviously a very serious problem that we're requesting be further investigated before a serious injuries occur. thank you for looking into this immediately. *tr
Plastic part on fuel pump module cracked causing fuel leak. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that there was a smell of gasoline fuel inside and outside of the vehicle. the contact later discovered a small amount of gasoline leaking from the vehicle. there was a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump) however, the contact's vehicle was not included in the recall campaign. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the failure mileage was unavailable. the vin was unavailable.
This in regards to gm recall 12190. gm sent me a notice that a crack fuel pump module was possible for my car. i had that problem a year earlier than the notice and paid a gm dealer almost $1000.00 to repair. in the recall notice sent by gm, they said that they would notify me when parts became available for my car. it has been almost 8 months since that notice, and i have not been notify, calls to gm customer service have advise me that they do know when the parts will be available, nor are they concerned or obligated to make the part(s) available, this this complaint. *tr
I started noticing a very strong gasoline odor inside and outside my car. even after the car had been sitting in my driveway overnight, i could still smell gasoline outside near the back of the car. i researched the symptoms online, and discovered that gm has issued a recall for the same exact model of car with the same exact symptoms. the recall is for replacement of the fuel pump. however, the recall is only being issued in a few states, not including pennsylvania, where i live. i contacted gm about the problem, and was told that there is a recall for this problem, but my vin is not included in the recall, and my warranty is expired. gm suggested i take the car to a gm dealership for a diagnosis of the problem. the dealership stated that there was a problem with the fuel pump and it needs to be replaced. the dealership also stated that they discussed the problem with gm and they offered to split the cost 50/50 with me. with the 50% discount, the cost to me is still nearly $500.00. this resolution is unacceptable to me. if gm knows there is a manufacturing problem with the fuel pump in their cars, then the recall should cover the entire country, not just specific areas. *tr

Started smelling gas in the garage, though it was lawn mower, removed it, still smelled, progressively got worse, smelled around gas tank, and caused me headaches and started coming into the house. car also started having problems turning over (probably due to gas not getting to engine so well). started parking outside and checking your site for recall since i heard one was out there for 2007 equinox, but it ended up my vin # and state are not included. i contacted gm and they set up appt. on 10/29/12 to evaluate and i took it in to find out it was the exact issue on nhtsa camp. #12v459000 listed on this site - which was a cracked fuel pump module. gm contacted local chevy dealer farrell cheverolet and they worked out a 50% discount on the repair. i told the lady at gm that i would also issue this complaint so that all equinox vehicles in 2007 might get included in this recall, since i am not the only one having this problem and possibly i could get the rest of my charges returned if included. this is definitely a safety issue and could have turned out worse if my house burned down or something. *tr

Began smelling strong fuel smell on passenger side of vehicle. took vehicle in for service and was informed the fuel feed line was cracked and had caused a fuel leak. fuel pump assembly had to be replaced. *tr chevrolet equinox 2007 models have a current recall (id 12v459000) that was issued in september 2012 for this exact issue; however the recall doesn't include georgia. the manufacturer would not cover the cost of this repair under the recall even though they confirmed that it was the same issue. this is a safety concern and the recall should be expanded to all states. this is a costly repair and should be covered since it is an obvious defect that they have already claimed responsibility for in other states.
Have a 2007 equinox with fuel leak at top of fuel tank. dealer says same issue as the ones with the recall notice, yet my vehicle is not on the list. dealer says $1300 to repair unless i receive recall notice, but it probably would not happen. dealer also stated have seen several vehicles with same issue and not on recall list. if so many vehicles have same defect, then why are they not all being recalled? does there have to be a fire or explosion or fatality before something general motors does something? *tr
Our 2007 chevy equinox developed a fuel leak from the fuel pump causing a strong odor of gasoline when driving and when parked. we heard on the news that there was a recall on 2007 equinox for defective fuel pumps that leaked. we contacted general motors and they informed us that our vehicle was not part of the recall. we paid for the repairs ourselves. is there any way that we can be reimbursed for the repair costs? we currently have the defective fuel pump. *tr
A fuel leak in the area of the fuel tank was detected. at first it was thought that the tank had cracked, but after the fuel tank was dropped a cracked plastic supply line leading into the fuel pump was found. i had the module replaced at my own expense. after the fuel pump was replaced i heard of a recall issued by gm for this exact problem, but when i contacted them they said that the recall was specific to certain vin numbers that were located in the states of arizona, nevada and texas and as my vehicle is registered in ny this recall does not cover my vehicle. how can a safety recall be issued for a specific problem and not cover all vehicles that have the same problem. the risk of fire from my leaky fuel pump was the same as the cars located in those other states. this makes absolutely no sense to me. a safety defect is a safety defect, no matter what state a car is in and should apply to all vehicles that have the same defect.. gm's refusal to remedy this is unconscionable and does nothing to enhance there reputation of building quality cars and standing behind them. *tr
My 2007 chevrolet equinox i haven't had it a year and fuel pump system is dry rotten and leaking fuel was close to catching on fire a manufacturer defect and they telling me at the dealership it's not included in the recall because i don't have no warranty i will have to pay $2000 to have my vehicle fix also my child always complaint of feeling sick when she ride inside the car now i know what cause her to feel sick i brought to the pediatrician and will have my attorney to get involved to have these matter resolved. *tr
After smelling a very strong odor of gas for about a month, it became so strong that i took the car into the dealer. the service mgr. informed me there was a problem with the fuel pump and that it would require dropping the gas tank to correct the problem. since there was a strong chance of fire, i decided to have the work done. it was extremely expensive, $1200, which i had to borrow in order to afford this repair. the service mgr. even showed me the cracked piece of plastic from inside the fuel pump. upon returning home that evening, i was surprised to see a news story on tv about a recall made by chevrolet for the very problem i had just had. and then the unbelievable news that they would recall only certain "warm weather" states. i live in virginia, which was not included, but it gets hot here too. i am appalled that the recall wasn't sent to every owner that might be affected by this obvious defect. and after reading many forums on the internet, i realize the problem is widespread, not just the few "warm weather" states. i have been a fan of chevrolet for many years, but my faith in their company has been shattered. i have repeatedly called their customer service phone line and was given an incident number to reflect that i had contacted them. i even went to my dealer and since they had not received anything other than a memo, there was nothing they could do. now it is april and still no sign of ever being contacted by chevrolet about this recall. i really need that money back and am very angry with the whole situation!!!!! *tr
As i was backing out the driveway i can smell gas before i could take off i saw a huge line of gas my husband then checked it and there was a crack/leak just earlier today i checked online and come to find out thereout there is a recall on the fuel pump but my vin number is not one of them i find this very unfair i am a mother of 3 and i want my car fixed please fuel pumps are expensive. *tr

I noticed a gas smell when i got out of my car and when it is parked in my driveway. i took it to the dealership where i bought the car and they looked at it for me. they told me the gas tank was leaking a little bit from the top of the tank. i then did some research and found out that there is a recall on the fuel pump for the same reason. i live in kentucky and the recall is in the western states. why is it only in those states it is a defect in the part itself and i feel as if it should be replaced just the same as the others. also i am having a problem with the stabilitrack in my vehicle. a warning will appear on the dash that states service stabilitrack, stabilitrack off, and then it will state engine power reduced and the engine will reduce power. i have seen a lot of complaints online about that as well. *tr
My car started to smell like gasoline inside the vehicle. i took it the shop and they told me the gas tank had split into two. after they took the tank apart they also noticed the fuel pump had stopped working. i have found a recall for this problem in the equinox's originally sold or currently registered in arizona, california, nevada, and texas but mine was made in canada and sold in ohio. *tr

We start to smell a very heavy odor of gasoline, we stop and looked to find out what was happening but could not find any gasoline leaking on ground, we took it for grant that maybe the gas tank had an over fill, but the problem just kept continuing to get worst, we happen to hear a news report about gas leak problem with 2007 chevy equinox so we took it to the dealer and they said they did not have any knowledge of a recall and we would have to pay about $1000.00 to repair problem and try to get money back from general motors( ourisman chevrolet, in bowie md.) *tr
Parked the car in the garage, and came back out a few minutes later and gasoline fumes were overwhelming. removed it from garage and saw puddle of gasoline near the back gas tank, underneath the car. before i took it to the dealership the next morning, looked up online to see if anyone else had experienced this problem with this model of car. i found six (6) pages of complaints for the same thing. it was the pressure hose to pump line resulting from a faulty pump. i also noted that the majority of these pump failures happened around the same mileage, which tells me there should be some type of recall on these pumps and pump lines. if i had not gone back into the garage, i am sure i would have had a major fire in the garage or in the car. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that she could smell fuel inside and outside of the vehicle. the smell was so strong that she could not park the vehicle in her garage. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the fuel pump module was cracked. the contact was informed of a recall under nhtsa campaign number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline). the dealer informed her that the vin was not included. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 118,303.
I been smelling gas for over a week outside then inside of car. was told i can drive and bring to dealership asap as long as there is no leaks. i took car to the dealer in jenkintown,pa and was told there was a leak from fuel pump line to engine. i notice several customers have the same problem since 2010 and now it's 2012. why haven't this been on a recall due to it can be very dangerous with a gas leak when a customer smells gas but don't see a leak. customers can think maybe gas spilled a little on car but when you smell gas when you are driving, there is an issue. i know customers like myself had paid for this service which should have been a recall. i had to pay $949 for part and labor which is totally unfair when i'm not the only one with this issue. i will report to consumer report regarding 2007 chevy equinox with all the issues i had from getting a transmission to now gas leak. very very dangerous! *tr
When i went to start the engine it would take a while, shortly after, we started noticing a very strong smell of gasoline coming from the fuel receptacle which got worse as time went by. a mechanic told us after inspecting that the fuel tank had a bad leak but wouldn't touch it because he know of a recall for this problem. when we took it to the dealer it turned out it was the fuel pump but we were told that the recall did not apply to my vehicle. *tr
This vehicle started having a strong odor of gas that was filling up my garage and home. took it to the dealership who told me that this car is very dangerous to drive due to huge gas leak. it cost $300 to have the fuel tank dropped to find out the problem. i was told it was the fuel pump assembly which cost $800 to get fixed. i was also advise this is becoming a common problem with these car. i have a newborn and a 5 year old that was riding in the car with a gas leak. my car has to remain in the shop until i can come up with the money to have it repaired. this is not only a health issue but someone could die as a result of this. a recall is needed immediately before someone life is taken. if something is not done soon, i will be contacting the media and have this issue placed on the news due to several other complaints about this same problem from other people. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that there was an overpowering gasoline odor present inside and outside of the vehicle. the odor was so severe that it would cause the contact to become nauseous. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where they advised that there was a fuel leak. the vehicle was repaired for the module kit and the gasket for the fuel tank. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 94,506. the current mileage was approximately 95,256.
Gas can be smelt when the car is in park the car does not start the first time the ignition is turned, it takes two tries for the car to start. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated as his vehicle was inspected they noticed there was a fuel leak. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who inspected the failure and stated the return port on the fuel pump module was cracked and caused the fuel leak. as a result, the fuel pump needed to be replaced. there was a recall nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 97,000.
I started smelling gas when i stopped the car. there was a gas leak. i took it to the garage and they told me that it could have set the whole car on fire, due to the leak and trail of gas going up into the car. if i had been on the highway and a spark had hit the gas leak, we could have been set on fire. i called the chevrolet company and they said that if i didn't have my car registered in a certain state that the recall they had in place would not affect my car. if it is a faulty part, why does it matter where the car is registered, if there is a recall on the vehicle, there is a recall on the vehicle. *tr
I kept smelling gas when i would get out of my car. after a week of the smell, i had the car checked out. the garage mechanic checked and said there was a leak coming from over the gas tank and it was leaking down underneath my car and it was very dangerous. he said a spark could have ignited the gas and caused a dangerous fire. the car was repaired by the garage by replacing the fuel pump module (parts and labor $674.99). *tr
Very strong smell of gasoline fumes coming from right rear of vehicle. discovered a puddle of gasoline directly under the gas tank- the fuel was leaking from above and dripping along the side of the tank. took the vehicle to dealer for service and they found that the fuel pump module was leaking. fuel pump/hose assembly was replaced under powertrain warranty at no cost. clearly a very dangerous situation with the potential for fire. with two young children that ride in this car i find it very concerning that there are so many similar fuel leak complaints with this vehicle and no recall has been issued. *tr
Noticed a strong smell of gas coming from the vehicle when parked. had to move it out of garage as smell was extremely strong. took car in for service 8/25/12, found that the plastic part of the fuel pump was cracked and cost approximately $909 to repair. find out there is a recall for this very same issue (nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000), as well a corresponding recall for same issue on select suzuki xl7 (nhtsa campaign id number:12v597000). i contacted gm customer assistance by phone (800-243-8872) to find out if my vehicle was covered, was told no, only because it was not originally titled in one of the following states "originally sold or currently registered in arizona, california, nevada, and texas". was told by gm customer assistance that they would contact me if it was decided that my vehicle would be covered. i have not heard anything from them, i can provide a case # upon request. what difference does it make where the car was titled, did not my vehicle come down the same assembly line. so in effect because my car is not covered it is ok that the fuel pump cracked, and had it caught or caused a fire that would be ok as well. would like some assistance to get gm to acknowledge that this is the same issue, not penalize me because i live in ohio and reimburse me the cost for the repair $909. *tr
