Strong gas smell from right rear of vehicle that spreads throughout vehicle both parked and in motion

Purchased a used 2007 chevrolet equinox 6 hours after purchase, service airbags light, service t tire monitor system and check engine light came on in the instrument cluster and gags guage stopped working..

As many others, i now have a leaking fuel sending unit on our 2007 chevy equinox. many people have this same problem and chevy chooses not to address it for us by issuing a recall. when the vehicle is running the fuel system is pressurized which causes fuel to spray out of a faulty joint which is made of plastic that cracks, the fuel then drips down from the tank as it pleases around the exhaust and on to the floor.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact noticed an abnormal odor of fuel emerging from the vehicle. additionally, fuel was seen leaking from the vehicle onto the ground, and the check engine, stability track, and brake indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (whitney's chevrolet, 123 pioneer ave w, montesano, wa 98563, (360) 249-4431) where it was diagnosed that there was a hairline crack in the fuel tank and a crack on the fuel module. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and opened case number: [xxx]. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 114,000. parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *an

Fuel pump fuel leak, visible leak (spraying) onto top of tank when pump is pressurized.

I purchased a 2007 chevy equinox from a private party back in january but due to a mix-up with the title and the previous owner i could not title the car and start driving it until march. i've noticed lately a strong smell of gas and a very loud clunking noise from the driver side front wheel. i took it to a local shop in my town and was told i had a gas leak at the top of the tank and that the sway bar linkage needed to be replaced . in doing my research i found that there was a recall for the fuel leak on the 2007 equinoxes and that many people have had problems with the sway bar linkage going bad and the service stable track light constantly staying on. i also have the problem stating all wheel drive off flashing on my screen. i found that many people put their vin numbers in the search window and found theirs not to be part of the recall but i'm wondering why if more than just the previous recalled vehicles are having the same issue wouldn't they want another recall issued for the ones that haven't been repaired. i just took it to a gm dealer today in my hometown and they want over $1,400 to fix just the fuel leakage problem i need to know what gm is going to do about it. i don't have 1400 extra dollars to fix this gas leak and i'm scared to drive the vehicle for fear of it starting on fire.

Car smells of gasoline and has trouble starting on the first attempt. car will start on second attempt but has a very strong gas odor. after taking it to a local mechanic, the car was diagnosed as unsafe to drive and is confirmed to be leaking gasoline. there is a recall for this exact make and model but is listed as only impacting certain states (arizona, california, nevada, texas) but i'm in new jersey and have seen it also reported in ohio, south carolina and new york. this recall needs to be expanded and can be very dangerous!!!

The car began to smell of gas after running and started to cut out. took it to a mechanic and they report a crack in the fuel pump.

Our 2007 chevy equinox fuel pump return started leaking fuel on the top of the fuel pump causing fuel to leak on the ground and releases strong gas fumes while parked in our garage. this vehicle is under current safety recall in other states but not in indiana. why are only some states under recall but not indiana?

I started smelling gas odor when exiting the vehicle , i checked around the vehicle did not see any gas spilling anywhere, checked under the vehicle noticed the fuel tank was wet on the backside , the gas is coming from the top of the fuel tank..i noticed there was a recall on this model vehicle and checked and said that my vehicle was not under the recall...why? it sounds like the same thing everyone else is having the same thing happen and the recall is fixing the problem..

My car just recently started to smell like gas. at first, it was a faint smell. now it is stronger. i can still drive the vehicle but i feel as if it is a safety hazard. i have two small children that ride in this vehicle. my gas meter still works and my range is accurate but the gas smell is becoming very overwhelming.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. while the vehicle was parked, a strong odor of fuel emitted in and around the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the seal around the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 98,500.

There seems to be a leak in the fuel line. there is a smell of gas inside and outside of the vehicle when stationary and while driving, which began in approximately march 2017.

The vehicle has stable track link error and will not go away, also the fuel guage doesn't work properly. the airbag is not working to protect my passengers in the front seat.

Fuel leaking from the return port on the fuel pump.

I bought a used 2007equinox last year (may 2015) i kept smelling gas and it was getting worse, didn't know about the recall, took it to my mechanic which cost me $965.00 to replace. if this vehicle went through the recall and a fuel pump was replaced, should it have been leaking again after 4 years. it would hesitate on starting and driving and parking the gas fumes were so bad, i knew i had a leak somewhere, it was leaking in motion and when stationary, when i would park it and walk about the park, the gas fumes were the worst there, still could smell the gas in my car and outside by the drivers side and passenger side doors.

When i have a passenger in the seat the airbag never comes on and the airbag light stays on and tells me it needs service. also all my gauges are all out of wack not sure if it is a recall or not once i hit 100,000 miles all these things came about. also there was a recall on the fuel system and at the time i did not have a problem as of yet, on 9/29/15 i then smelled the gas and called mk smith chevrolet to see if there were any recalls on this and they told me no, so i did take it somewhere else to be fixed due to it being cheaper for me and got it fixed and paid $633.60. i have document for that. now my key in the ignition does not come out and i hear a clicking noise by the ignition i'm not sure if that as well is a recall on the equinox 2007. please let me know if any of these problems are recalls on my vehicle. i just have read all these other complaints on the same issues on the equinox 2007.

Fuel sensor level is reading erratic after i put gas in my vehicle. the check engine light comes on and the fuel gauge goes from full to empty back to full.

Noticed the smell of gas coming from my car. also trouble starting. checked gas cap and was fine. drove around the rest of the day still very strong gas smell and issues when starting the car. got home and looked up info and see that there are several issues. but of course my vehicle is not on the recall list. there was an obvious problem but only certain vehicles were recalled now mine is having the same issue. safely risk and not a cheap fix.

Fuel leak from the tank

I got this car from frederi k auto center in march. ever since then i had problems. i told them i let them. knkw about them and they always said nothing was wrong with it. the one time they were supoose to fix something they had the car for two days and rhey put tape all over the hoses ro stop the leaks. they also failed the md inspection considering my wires are melted together and my ignition doesnt work right which wouldnt have pass. then they repo it when i wqsnt late on my payemnt because i said i want it fixed sinxe it was sols that way or i will file a compalint. everything qas illegal thatbthey did.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while stationary, the vehicle leaked fuel from the rear passenger wheel welds. the contact stated that the fuel odor entered the cabin of the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 62,000. the vin was not available.

While driving either on city or freeway the car started shaking, jerking, and vibrating really badly when applied pressure to the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not gain speed, instead it would slow down and it felt like gas was not going trough. the check engine light came on. sometimes the key will not come out of the ignition and i have to turn the car back on then turn the wheel, but sometimes it takes more than this to get the key out from the ignition switch. i had vehicle towed to a chevrolet dealership and they could not find anything wrong or could duplicate problem. when i picked up the car i had drive it 15 miles and the car started doing the same thing.

Car sputters and stalls sometimes while driving and sometimes when excelerating.can be driving down the street or getting onto the freeway.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. while the vehicle was parked, there was an abnormal fuel odor. upon further inspection, the contact noticed fuel on the ground. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

On november 17th the vehicle started to tell me that it was overheating and to turn a/c off. a/c was not even on because it was cold and the heat was blowing cold air. the vehicle then told me while i was trying to get to a safe location to pull over that the engine power was reduced and the vehicle stated to crawl along the road. when the vehicle was looked at where i pulled over there was minimal oil in the vehicle and it had blow coolant all over the driver side wheel well from what looked like the overflow tube. oil was put in the vehicle so that i could drive it to a safe location. on november 18th i went to start the vehicle to go to work and without going any place but sitting in the driveway it started to tell me that the engine was overheating and to turn a/c off. the vehicle was towed. the dealership that i use worked on it and replaced the temp control and thermostat and did a complete oil change. in the few days after this work was done i could still hear the fan running while driving and once i parked it would run for a while. on november 25th i was driving and the vehicle stated to say engine overheating and to turn a/c off once again i had to travel a short distance to get a semi safe location to pull over since the engine power was reduced again and the vehicle crawled along. the heater was blowing cold air i could hear the fans running inside the vehicle as well. this was the second time i had to have the vehicle towed in a week. it is now november 30th and i still do not have my vehicle back because they are still "working" on it. i see a lot of 2006 equinox's with the same issue not sure why this is not a recall because it is very inconvenient to not have a car and to miss work. i am sending pictures from the second time it was towed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. while parked, the contact noticed a fuel odor around the fuel tank. the failure recurred on one occasion. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump module was fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline). the approximate failure mileage was 120,126.

While driving either on city or freeway the car started shaking, jerking, and vibrating really badly when applied pressure to the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not gain speed, instead it would slow down and it felt like gas was not going trough. it first started 3 months ago took it to for an oil change and the recommendation i received from service agent was to get fuel system cleaned and change the transmission fluids which cost me around $298. the same day it did the same thing while driving on the freeway, so i let it be for a while but it continues with the same problem and have contacted service agent but have no solution for me. the other issue it has is the key always gets stuck, and need to turn the car back on then turn the wheel, but sometimes it takes more than this to get the key out from the ignition switch.

Check engine light will not go off. had engine check, it always smell like gass is leaking. when down to 60...70 miles to empty. when you open the gas tank there is air flowing or gas draining. when the noise stops, then you can pump the gas with out the gas pump stopping. the light and blinkers are constantly having to be replaced.

Notice odor of gas coming from right rear of car and seen a puddle of gas in lane . mechanic state either fuel pump or gasket failure called gm they state there's is a extended coverages if dealer state the it's a failure of the supply return port have to pay out of my pocket because they used defective parts. *tr

I noticed a strong smell of fuel coming from my vehicle, i took it to a mechanic who diagnosed it as a problem with my fuel pump. i looked online because i had heard of a recall associated with cars catching on fire due to a fuel pump defect and i believe my vehicle is affected by this same defect. i'm in urgent need of this being repaired but i'm being told that the problem with the fuel pump will not be covered given the recall is regional to specific states. i am disputing this as i don't understand why my vehicle can't be covered if it is experiencing the same defect that was identified in those states. *js

There is a strong odor of gasoline coming from the right rear of the car. looked up problem turns out there is a recall, but i wasn't told by general motors that they won't fix mine because codfish the plant it built in. this makes no sense to me as i'm having the same problem. please help. *tr

About 2 weeks ago i started smelling gas around and in my vehicle. after researching the data base i see that is not uncommon and i am very concerned as to why this is not being recalled. how many complaints need to be made? are they waiting for someone to be injured because their vehicle caught on fire due to this? this is a safety issue for sure. i did take my vehicle to the dealership and it is the fuel pump. unfortunately i do not live in the states that the recall was issued for. i have had several issues with this vehicle and every one of them is a known common issue and none have been sent for recall. this is going to cost me more than i can afford to get it fixed. this should be a recall in all states not just a few! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the fuel level gauge began to point backward and not in the direction of the fuel gauge lines. a dealer was notified of the failure and a diagnosis was scheduled. the vehicle had not yet been diagnosed. the failure and current mileage was 48,500.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that there were gasoline fuel fumes in the rear of the exterior and interior of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the fuel tube that entered the fuel tank exhibited a leak. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure was reported to the manufacturer. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 12v459000 (fuel system; gasoline), however the vin was not included. the failure mileage was 92,000. the current mileage was 96,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while approaching the vehicle, he smelled gasoline. the contact could smell gasoline inside the vehicle as well. the vehicle also failed to start. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic, who advised that there was a fuel leak. the referenced nhtsa campaign number: 12v459000 (fuel gasoline) but did not confirm with the manufacturer if the vehicle was included in the recall. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 70,000.

The fuel pump module was leaking fuel, as discovered by my mechanic. the pump had to be changed at great expense. why has this problem not been addressed across the board for equinox, instead of selective state registered as mentioned in the gm recall ? i could have had a potential fire had i not detected fuel fumes when i did. thank you, *tr

About a month ago we started smelling gas both inside and outside the vehicle. after a few weeks the vehicle was starting to have trouble starting where it would sound like the car was "flooded" and wouldn't turn over right away. i took the vehicle to the chevrolet dealership today and they diagnosed the problem as a cracked fuel module system that was leaking fuel. i have read thousands upon thousands of complaints regarding this part on this particular equinox and there is even a recall on the part but in only 4 states which isn't fair to rest of the owners that are suffering the same problem. *tr

Fuel pump leak - again - still no florida recall - even though other states have recalled for same leak! *tr

I began smelling fumes coming from the rear of the vehicle. it go so bad, i had to stop parking my car in my garage. i took the vehicle to the local chevy dealer, dale earnhardt chevrolet on tennessee street in tallahassee, florida, and they confirmed that the fuel pump was on the recall. however, i was told that the 2007 chevy equinox is listed under phase 2 of the recall and they are only dealing with the phase 1 vehicles. in addition, gm has not come up with the new fuel pumps to replace the bad ones. thus, if i want it fixed, i would have to go to the napa store and purchase a fuel pump (i believe this would be a non-gm part) and then have then install it at a cost of over $1,100.00 to me. i then contacted the home office for gm and the "district specialist", rod, told me that the engineers have determined that despite the nationwide recall, that the fuel pump will not be repaired or replaced. i advise him of all the on line documentation regarding the recall and he told me they don't read those or acknowledge those so i am out of luck. i asked for the phone number to the home office and he said no one knows it and that i could just contact them via their p.o. box. *tr

The check engine light came on....there is gas fumes and leakage from the fuel pump. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that there was an odor of fuel outside of the vehicle and there was also a visible leak. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not sold nor was it currently registered in any of the states listed in nhtsa campaign id number 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline). the failure mileage and the vin were unavailable.
