We have classified the 62 complaints from 2005 Chevrolet Corvette about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Automatic shift lever locked in park while out shopping at a mall. corvette will not come out of park, i see this is a issue with all the c6 corvettes. this should be a recall fix for these corvettes
Frequently unable to shift out of park once the car is started. shift interlock solenoid seems to be faulty. vehicle is always stationary in a parking space. sometimes i turn it off and try again and it works. very annoying.
Automatic transmission lever will not shift out of park and into gear, leaving you stranded and unable to move from street.
Took the car in for a chatter noise at idle and when stationary. i'm told that the torque tube needs to be replaced, the car only has 27,000 miles and it seems that this is a very dangerous thing to have happen if it fails why you are driving it and it causes major damage to the rest of the drive train. it is a major part of the drive train and an obvious defect with the corvettes as noted in the forums. a recall is in order and chevorlet needs to step up to the plate and repair these to make this car safer before some one is seriously injured. the repair is very expensive at around 3,000. a repair that should never need to be done on a low mileage car.
Stuck in park almost every time now.
Vehicle randomly will not shift from park to any other gear. this started infrequently and now happens almost every time. i have researched this issue on this make and model with the automatic transmission and have found this is a very common issue, corvette forums are loaded with this complaint. the fix is a new shifter replacement. i have contacted gm and did not get any relief, my car only has 33k miles on it.
Will get stuck in park. no warning and will do it anywhere any time. the service manual has temporary fix but it does not always work either.
Vehicle intermittently will not shift out of park. car has 79,000 miles. usually able to shut car off and restart the car to allow it to shift out of park, and sometimes can bump the shifter towards the dash with my hand which allows - somehow - the locking mechanism to release. vehicle is stationary on flat ground usually when this occurs. has happened in parking lots, at home, in drive throughs, etc.
Unable to shift out of "park", happens intermittently. same symptoms as other posters. started at about 40,000 miles and continues to happen, now have about 45,000 miles and it has happened about 12 times.
Gear shifter will not come out of park. at times it will take up to 5 minutes before the gear shifter will move out of park. this is an intermittent problem. the dealer service department has ignored my ongoing complaint since i purchased the car. they have offered no help!
Automatic shifter gets stuck on park and will not shift out of park randomly leaving stranded different times.
For 2 years when parked i have been pushing shifter forward to get it to release from park. happens 50 percent of the time. have 26000 miles on car. chevrolet fixed once and lasted 100 miles. research internet shows me many people have and continue to have this problem. expensive car and chevrolet should fix this problem. never had any car do this. problem severity is enough to sell car and avoid corvette.
Unable to shift out of park
Unable to shift out of park with foot on brake and engine running. has happened numerous times.
Shift solenoid locks and does not allow the vehicle to be released from park
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet corvette. while driving at 5 mph, the vehicle came to a complete halt without warning. the vehicle was towed to a dealer but the contact was unsure about what needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. in addition, the contact mentioned that the service active handling system warning light had illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and an independent mechanic who were unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,900.
Unable to shift the car out of "park" leaving me stranded. it happens intermittently, and happens 50% of the time.
This has happened multiple times. i start the car and the transmission won't shift out of park. i try several solutions and usually nothing happens but finally, after minutes and much patients, the transmission will shift out of park. this doesn't happen all the time but it comes unexpectedly and i've almost become stranded in a bad situation because of this. *tr
Automatic transmission will intermittently stick in park. i've seen many similar complaints on the internet and would think gm should have a service notice and a recommended fix at no cost. the car has less than 28,500 miles and only 500 miles since the last repair. i've had this in to the dealer twice in the last 2 months for the same issue. i'm up to $1500 in repair costs with no resolution on a widespread issue.
Automatic transmission shift handle locks in park and you can not shift into gear. this is a known issue and gm even notes how to over-ride the problem in the owners manual (see page 2-31), when it happens. since this happens so often, and to so many owners (see internet comments on problem), a permanent fix should be done and covered by the manufacturer. in an emergency situation you may not have time to play with the shifter and this can lead to an accident or personal injury. while gm does note to contact a dealer about this problem in the owners manual, no recalls seem to have been made? *js
Car will no longer shift out of park to reverse or drive. started happening at 20,000 miles intermittently and by 25.000 miles no longer functions. replacement is in the $1000 range and should be a recall as it is a manufacturer defective shifter assembly. i had to remove the center console to access the shifter assembly and drill a hole thru the lock mechanism and tie 30 lb test fishing line thru the hole and run the line in to the storage area and on to a large plastic washer. now every time i want to shift out of park, no matter when or where, doesn't matter, i have to open the lid to the console and pull the washer with my right hand and move the shifter out of park with my left hand.
Shifter will not go into drive. stuck in park. put car in park at light and it sticks. *tr

I am the original owner. my 2005 c6 corvette has an issue that i have just found out hundreds of others with this year have experiencing. my automatic transmission shift lever is stuck in park, leaving me stranded. i tried to move the shifter and it is locked in park. i am experienced with this vehicle and did apply pressure to the brake pedal. which is procedure to start the vehicle & then move the shifter into drive. it still is locked in park. i found blogs online related to : "my 2005 c6 corvette is locked in park. gm issued a recall on saturns for auto transmissions and shifter problems, i am seeing more complaints online. this is one of many blogs i found. link: http://m.corvetteforum.com/c6-tech-performance/3196793-2005-c6-autos-stuck-in-park-solution-with-pics-2.html thank you for your attention & follow up on my issue. *tr updated 12/1/2014 *js
Won't shift out of park. *tr
The vehicle will not shift out of park. you have to sit there waiting for it let you move the gear shift. *tr
Vehicle will not shift from park to drive. vehicle shift lever will not allow movement from park. vehicle is unable to move. repeating the following procedure, repeatedly, will eventually allow shift lever to move from the park position to drive: exit / re-enter vehicle, wait 10 seconds, place foot on brake pedal, press ignition switch, move shift lever, repeatedly until shift lever moves or place vehicle in "accessory" mode and attempt to move shift lever. all steps may be need repeated attempts. no force, beyond typical use or pressure to move shift lever, is applied. problem is present in any type of weather, time of day. surface is flat and level. vehicle not parked on incline surface. vehicle is not abused, raced, or driven in high-performance manner. vehicle is not driven on a daily basis. *tr
Our car is a garage queen and used very infrequently, its on a battery charger and fluid changes done annually. we noticed the car would not move out of park and into any gear. (ie. stuck in park). it finally released and moves freely into any gear however when placed back into park there is no locking to avoid console mounted gear shifter from being bumped into gear. by law there is suppose to be a brake/gear/lock in all cars to avoid this. unfortunately the brake pedal neithers stops or helps the gear selector from moving freely. multiple online complaints suggest entire shifter needs replacement due to solenoid issue. repair is over 1000.00 for small part and effects entire model year with no recall issued to date. *tr
2005 chevrolet corvette - automatic transmission frequently sticks in the park position. turning the ignition off and back on will eventually clear the situation but may have to be done several times to get the shifter to come out of park. these malfunctions are well documented in on-line forums relating to corvettes. in many cases, a costly repair is only a temporary fix as the new components (shifter assembly) eventually fail as well. come on gm step up and take care of these issues as they have the potential of putting the safety of operators at risk. *tr
In december 2013 the automatic transmission suddenly lurched into a different gear as i was driving and would not properly upshift through the gears. also the check engine light was on. i limped it to the dealer and they cleared the code somehow and gave the car back to me. i only put about 85 miles on the car in 7 months when it did it again in june 2014.i nursed it to the dealer where they diagnosed it as a bad transmission control module(after telling me the battery and ignition switch needed to be replaced which was not correct). the bill was $1328. i picked up the car and drove it home where the same thing happened as i neared my house and the transmission again lurched into a different gear and wouldn't shift through the gears properly. again i nursed it back to the dealer and they claimed the first module they put in was bad and replaced it. needless to say this didn't sound to me right but there wasn't anything i could do at this point. i put approximately 850 miles on the car in 11 months and had been experiencing intermittent times when the shifter would not come out of park without numerous attempts. i brought it in may 2015 for the headlight recall and told them of the difficulty getting it out of park. they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. i put less than 200 miles on the car in 4 months when the transmission got stuck in park,in my garage and the transmission shifter cable broke as i attempted to get it into gear. this was september 2015. the car had to be jacked up and put into neutral underneath and pushed out of my garage so it could be towed to the dealer. this trip cost me $873 for a new shifter and shifter cable replacement. i have now read where this is a common occurrence on the 2005 corvette and i feel a recall should be instituted to replace these defective parts at the manufacturers expense. i am the original owner. thank you *tr
While the vehicle is in park, it will not move to drive, reverse, or neutral. *tr
Automatic transmission shifter "stuck in park", unable to release. *tr
Shifter keeps stuck in park. will not release. gm has not recalled this and it becomes a safety issue. *tr
My car periodically gets stuck in park and shift lever with not move into drive. this has happened at least 50-75 times....it has happened numerous times when i have been to gas station and various short trips around town....gm needs to do a recall on this issue!!
Unable to ship automatic transmission from park to drive after starting vehicle. happens intermittently. sometimes i must use over ride system to shift to neutral, start the vehicle, then shift into drive. this allows the vehicle to roll before even starting it. someone could get hit and injured. this happens whether on level surface or inclined surface. this appears to be a failure in the transmission neutral safety system.
After starting car, transmission will not shift out of park. repeated attempts to press brake lever and to shift from park, finally works. problem is intermittent and it was reported to the dealer service department. *tr
Vehicle will not shift out of park, intermittently, but consistently. numerous fixes have been attempted, several dealerships notified, but they seem to think it is normal. using "alternative methods" to shift from park to drive do not seem appropriate or safe.
automatic shifter gets stuck in park. following the manual procedure does not help. pushing release button does not help, pushing shifter forward does not help. this has happened at least 25 to 30 times. dealer says replace shifter to fix. what's to stop this from recurring? this appears to be a safety problem. *tr
Unable to get the automatic tranny shifter out of park sometimes. *js
While driving the automatic transmission 'shifter cable' broke. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet corvette. the contact stated that the gear lever failed to shift out of park. the contact mentioned that had to attempt to shift gear several times before it change. the failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 19,000.
My 2005 c6 corvette shifter is intermittently stuck in park, unable to be moved from park. it happens at the most inopportune times and i am fearful it will leave me stranded necessitating a tow to the dealer. so far i have been able to move the shifter from park after 10-15 minutes of "playing with the shifter". this happens 3-4 times per week, intermittently. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet corvette. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, one of the wheels seized, causing the vehicle to skid intermittently. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for a diagnosis and the contact was informed that the non-slip differential needed fluid. the failure recurred again the next day. the vehicle was scheduled to return to the dealer. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 70,000.
My service column lock (manual transmission) came on in my dic and i could not start my car i feel this problem should be on the recall list i have check on corvette forum and many people have had the same problem we should have to pay to get this fix. corvette should come up with something to fix this problem. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet corvette. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift from park into drive. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 14,000. updated 8/28/14*c updated 09/16/2014 *js
While turning in a corner on the highway, i lost power steering and i had smoke and debris flying out of the back of the car. luckily there was nobody near me, and i managed to steer off the road safely. looked in the engine and the accessory belt was shredded, which also destroyed the heat shield material on the inside of the hood. got a friend to pick me up and we installed a new belt. drove 0.5 miles and the belt flew completely off this time. power steering completely died, and i could barely turn the wheel while being tailgated by cars. cooling system failed, coolant flying all over the engine bay, under the car, and on the highway. i'm glad i wasn't killed. checked all the pulleys and found that the crankshaft pulley bolt had backed out, which i later found out caused wobble on the belt and led the engine/car to fail. got a tow to the nearest gm dealer. there are many complaints about this on internet corvette forums, and gm is aware of the issue (tsb #05-06-01-001a). it seems like crashing and causing accidents would warrant a recall. *tr
2005 corvette with automatic transmission. shifter gets stuck in park and cannot be released. has happened multiple times. can only be released by following a series of steps as outlined in manual. believe the cause is due to a defective solenoid in shifter control unit. looking at different websites this seems to be a problem with many corvette owners. *tr
My 2005 corvette has an automatic transmission. at times after i start the car, the shifter gets stuck in park. it has happened when the engine is cold in the morning and also in evening after driving for a while. it feels like it is locked into park. *tr
