Truck electrical cuts off while driving. instrument panel and radio. vehicle engine and headlights keep running
Pass lock security system.while driving my vehicle the pass lock security system shut my vehicle down late at night around 11pm.i was stranded the truck would not start because the lock was showing on the dash gauges.i recently had major open heart surgery and i am 62 years old.i was stuck all night long out in the country here in north central florida and this is bear country here.i had to walk about 8 miles the next morning as there arent many people driving out here that time of day.i thought i was going to die out there in the woods.i was scared to death.i dont carry all my heart medecine with me as i thought i would be gone from home maybe an hour or two at the most.this vehicle has not been able to be started for about 2 months because of this security system.it cost me a fortune to have it towed the next day $250 and have had 3 chevy mechanics with their diagnostic machines tell me nothing wrong with vehicle except pass lock system and it could not be reset by them,at a cost of $125 each.now the dealer says tow it to them and they will put their computer on it to for $125 but wont guarantee they can reset it either.i will never buy a nother chevy product ever again or any vehicle with this type of security system on it.i just thank god i was alright after all this crap happened to me.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet colorado. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle lost power and shut off without warning. the contact called for assistance and had the vehicle towed to her residence. the vehicle restarted the next day. the failure recurred and the vehicle restarted after a couple of minutes. the failure recurred several more times and the vehicle restarted each time. the contact called tom gibbs chevrolet at 386-206-8097 (located at 5850 e, fl-100, palm coast, fl 32164) and scheduled a diagnostic appointment. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet colorado. the contact stated that the rear brake lights failed to illuminate when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact also stated that the rear brake lights had been replaced eight times by phil smith chevrolet (1640 north state road 7, lauderhill, fl 33313). the dealer refused to repair the vehicle again. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was repaired elsewhere. the approximate failure mileage was 134,074.
Firstly the passlock system is a huge issue, if the parts in the system ignition system break down or trip you can be stuck high and dry on a whim. passlock system is prime reason for my worries when driving my truck will cut fuel out and shut down and stall when i'm driving or need to start up my truck again also the blower resistor and cable are faulty as are other electrical systems but the blower motor resistor is outright a fire hazard that can melt or burn out. gm needs to stop (#ing) around with passlock system and other issues i will not be driving or owning another gm in my lifetime after my troubles with this passlock system nobody should be having to deal with this problem 3rd party or have repeated service or parts installed to silence this issue for a time. just think of having been stuck high and dry threw not fault of your own outside the passlock system there are quite a few very very negative problems many have had with these 2 systems above i would love gm to pay me for missed work days and personal expenses for having had to fix mend and make this system work as i stright up bought a new ecm/pcm tuned it removed passlock because the risk and issues were to great nobody needs this problem hanging over their heads this issue pisses me off as i'd spent days doing relearn procedures 40 min per procedure several times until one stuck as per instructions gm wont even respond or not (x) this up if you need service too i will not be owning any more gm or chevy again. if you need to fix this system just remove it. so sad dealers are greedy and gm is too rather then make things right with long standing issues and complaints passlock system and blower motor and a few other things need recalls no ifs ands or butts this is exactly how you will go bankrupt again (@)ing customers who paid for your broken sales pitch to buy your snake oil *parts of this document have been redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*
Passlock truck willnot start only sitting for fifteen minutes ,had it replaced once 12/27/2013 now its doing it again i need this truck because my wife is verry sick but i cant depend on it it has under 34,000 miles on it.
My brake lights all went out at the same time. i was driving on the interstate and had to stop suddenly. the tractor trailer behind me nearly rear ended me. the cruise control also went out. i had this issue repaired under recall number 06030 five years ago. it is identically the same, yet chevrolet says they will not repair it due to mileage and vehicle age. this is extremely dangerous.
Power windows loss power, including driver and passenger windows. wiring problem exists. ken dixon, the dealer in waldorf, md repaired problem on january 21, 2013 at a cost of $300 under so # 243247. but the same problem reoccurred in early feb 2016 and the dealer refused to repair the problem without costs to the customer. the vehicle was stationary. the problem mirrors recall of the same make and model under nhtsa's campaign #14v404.
Hazard light stuck on, prevent use of signal light. when disabled signal light not operable. *tr
Some times the truck will not start for ten min. i have had the truck 3 times stop running and had to coast off the road. it restarted after sitting without repair. *tr
Driving on us 441 engine shut off and the pass lock light came on. had to steer off of road with no power. restarted after stopped and happened again coming back up mountain but no where to pull off road nearly hit by another car. dealer says this is a security system tied to the ignition switch and fuel when the car is started but shouldn't shut off fuel while driving. admitted this is a common problem they experience though. if the pass lock system fails to work as designed and shuts off the fuel supply to the engine while driving it's very dangerous. should be a recall to replace the security system with a system that works as designed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet colorado. the contact stated that while driving at 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. in addition, the steering wheel seized. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage 137,000.
The vehicle will not start. the engine turns over however the vehicle will not start. after fifteen to twenty minutes the vehicle starts. today my 17 year old daughter is at a friends house some distance away and the vehicle will not start. i have taken the vehicle to my mechanic and have discovered that this is a known issue with this vehicle. i am surprised that there has not been a recall for the ignition switch by chevrolet. i would like to know what if any options i have other than to take my vehicle back to a chevrolet dealer and have them install and re-program the computer system to the new ignition system which by the way per all of the similar complaints i have recently found on the internet is definitely defective. i am also wondering if this is the prelude to the current ignition problem the g.m refused to recognize after numerous complaints that unfortunately ended in causing numerous accidents and truly unfortunate deaths which all were uncalled for. i have researched my vehicle on the internet and have found no recall other than that of a child car seat issue which does not apply to my vehicle as i have two fold down seats in the xtra cab. *tr
The ignition system fail and don't let the car start even we the original key and don't let start the auto for 10 minutes and so on and this is happening to every colorado owner that i now. *tr
Once started once in awhile is happening more ofter i park my car at work supermarket etc and the car will not start i believe its the theft protection the lock light goes on and i need to wait 10 to 15 mins before the car will start again just tonight i was going home from work stop to get gas and had to wait again before the car started and just a few days ago last sun i had the same problem at the store and i hope it starts before the food goes bad been lucky it least 10 min and the most up to 20 min i got a recall letter and wonder if that was the problem thanks for ur time. *tt
The a/c blower motor stop running on speed selections 1,2 and 3. after a few seconds it starts running. on speed selection4 it runs ok. i was told the rheostat is faulty. *tr
Truck will just shut off and not crank. passlock module will not let it crank. around every 100 cranks it will shut engine off and not let it crank. i have done research and numerous people have had this problem with these truck and chevrolet company will not do anything about this. this is dangerous it has even shut off while driving vehicle. can you please make them fix this on these trucks. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet colorado. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled and the pass lock and battery warning indicators illuminated. after the pass lock reset, it took several attempts for the vehicle to restart. the dealer stated that the crank sensor and ignition switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failures persisted. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 79,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet colorado. the contact stated that when the ignition switch was turned into the on position, the vehicle would make an igniting noise but would not start. the failure recurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
I purchased this vehicle new, and for too much information the vehicle is a piece of junk. about a couple of months ago i unlock my vehicle using the remote opener. get in the vehicle, put key in ignition, try and start vehicle. vehicle will not start, the engine will turn over, but will not start. i noticed during this time, will trying to get vehicle to start, that the anti-theft lock light has lit up on dash board. to no avail the vehicle would not start. at this time i was not aware of any problems with vehicle, so i think here we go another trip to the dealer to get piece of junk fixed. after i hitch a ride home, i search the web for any reasons vehicle will not start. i found articles from individuals who also had this same problem. i learned from one that for some reason the vehicle's anti-theft system thinks you are trying to steal your own vehicle. i also learned that if you wait 10 minutes after your first failed attempt at starting vehicle the anti-theft would reset itself and vehicle would start. try to start the vehicle the next morning, and it starts. i think okay i will stop using remote and not lock vehicle, see if this stops problem. it does not. i get in vehicle about 2 days ago and again the engine will turn over, but will not start. there is the anti-theft light lit up on dash board again. this time i wait 10 minutes and the vehicle will start. i have called the dealer and gm, from both i hear there is no solution. can't by-pass the anti-theft, and for service dept. to find problem, vehicle has to experience same problem at the time of repair. since the problem is intermittent, a solution is unlikely. there appears to be a problem with this type vehicle, built around the time frame as the purchase of the one i bought. gm should be made to find a solution. i do not like being stranded, and selling the product to someone else is not an option. *tr
I own a 2006 chevy colorado extended cab. the air bag readiness light stayed on after starting the vehicle. according to the manual, if the air bag readiness light stays on after you start the vehicle, it means the airbag is not in working order. the airbags may not inflate in a crash or they could inflate without a crash. this is a safety problem. i am concerned that the airbag would not deploy if involved in a crash. i am also concerned about having the air bag deploy under normal driving. there is a wiring harness that travels through the hinge of the rear door that appears to be a problem. the opening and closing of the rear doors has caused the wires to break. this rear door gets opened maybe 1 out of every 10 times the vehicle is entered/exited. since the problem involves the airbags i thought it would be best to take it to the dealership for them to repair. since there has not been an recall issued, i have had to pay for this myself. *tr
Have experienced problems with my truck's pass lock/anti-theft switch. the truck will not start and it takes ten minutes before the truck restarts. i had only about 22,000 miles on the truck when the problem first occurred. this issue continues to be a problem. the truck on has 26,000 miles. this problem could easily become a safety issue if truck shuts off in traffic. there should be a recall. does someone have to die before a recall to happen? *tr
As i see i am one of may people with this issue, i am having almost daily problems with the passlock/no start for the past few weeks. this happened one other time back in june 2012 but has not done so since. then about 3 weeks ago, it started doing it daily. i attempt to start it (whether it has been sitting for hours or only a few mins), but it only will crank not start. i have to sit in the truck for about 10 mins with the key turned to the on position and then it will start. this is ridiculous. with so many people having this problem, gm should be forced to put out on recall on the passlock/security and fix these known problems!! this could be very dangerous if something were to happen where you need to move your vehicle in case of an emergency and it won't start. *tr
I am going to get gas and go in side to pay and it wont start cranks no advise i had the same 5 times before the midway chevrolet fix it a bad ignition switch part #63779 o a bill for the parts $416.74 the theft system would work and it would stop working it is a switch for the gas i think i need to be pay back. *tr
The passlock system has become more of an issue with this vehicle. the vehicle will not start almost two to three times a week. not only does this come at the most un-opportune time after 10 minutes or more to wait for the system to reset. after reading this post, i see that i am not the only one with this problem. i have had to wait up to 30 minutes sometimes to get the truck started again. his has become more of a problem.so far there has not been a dangerous situation where this problem has happened. but it gets to a point that your afraid to turn the engine off, for fear of being stranded somewhere. the truck had been to the dealer many times for this problem they were unable to fine out what was wrong.they replaced the ignition switch, inside the steering column and the problem stopped. the fuel pump on the vehicle failed and the vehicle was leaking gas and that had to be replaced and the vent valve on the gas tank just failed and had to be replaced (76,000 miles). thank you for your consideration. *tr
After my vehicle gained 67xxx it began to have issues with the anti theft system. when i turn my vehicle off, and turn it back on the anti theft light blinks. this has stalled my vehicle. when i attempt to turn it on the engine will crank and the lights flicker on and off. after doing some research i have found that numerous people have also encountered this issue. the only fix know at the moment is to wait 10 minutes and then the engine will start. this can become a nuisance and a danger. i had recently encountered a nail in my tire. i had to pull over on the highway to check what was happening. when i shut my engine off i was stuck on the highway due to my anti theft light blinking and my engine not starting due to this anti theft issue. i have addressed this with gm and also the local dealer with no success for assistance. it was suggested that i do a diagnostics test, but that would run me upward of 400+ to figure out what is going on. i find this to be a manufacture issue. numerous people have addressed this issue online. *tr
I was driving home from work during the night-time hours and both headlights quit working. now, the left headlight continues to go out but i can touch it and it will come on. i have replaced the light several times and nothing works. also, 1 week ago, the abs failure message appeared. there are multiple complaints with this problem and frankly, both of my issues are safety concerns. gm has installed defective parts as usual and now the customers are bearing the cost of repairing their failures. these are safety concerns that need to be recalled. i have recently had the intake valve seats replaced because of a gm defective part. this abs failure concern is my number 1 concern as i have very small children. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet colorado. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact coasted over to the side of the road and was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the ignition switch was replaced. in addition, the passenger seat belt warning light would remained illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet colorado. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the ignition switch on four different occasions. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
The passlock system has become more of an issue with this vehicle. the vehicle will not start almost two to three times a week. not only does this come at the most un-opportune time but now happens more often when i have less than a half tank of gas. when i put gas in, this does not happen as much. after 10 minutes or more to wait for the system to reset. sometimes the lock light stays on after i start the car. my mechanic has had the truck in 4 times and has not been able to find what is wrong. after reading this post, i see that i am not the only one with this problem. i have had to wait up to 30 minutes sometimes to get the truck started again. his has become more of a problem. i have not have any other major problems and have over 90,000 miles. so far there has not been a dangerous situation where this problem has happened. but it gets to a point that your afraid to turn the engine off. thank you for your time. *tr updated 1/23/2015*js
No brake lights. fuse is not blown. *tt
Vehicle air blower fan for heat/air conditioner periodically stops working on settings 1,2,and 3. fan continues to work on setting 4. *tt
Gm passlock system in my 2006 chevy colorado fails daily leaving me stranded for 10-15 minutes until it resets itself. if engine stalls in a turn lane, it creates a hazardous situation. *kb
Pass lock anti theft system intermittently engages, preventing the vehicle from restarting for a period of 10 minutes. this problem is a safety issue if the vehicle were to stall while operating on a freeway or major highway and can not be restarted. *tr
This vehicle has an intermittent crank no start issues, as i have researched these vehicles have problems with a security system known as passlock, as i see there is known issues with this faulty system, you attempt to start it, but it only will crank not start. the only thing you can do is turn the ignition key to the on position for at least 10 minutes and let the security re-learn codes before you can start the truck. i think g.m. should be forced to fix there known problems with this, as it could be dangerous based on a situation where you need to move your vehicle in case of an emergency and it wont start. *tr
Blower motor on my 2006 chevrolet colorado quit working except for the high position. leaving the fan in the high position too long will cause the fan to quit working and then there is no a/c , heater or defogger that will work when needed. i took it to the dealer who told me that he knows what the problem may be, a relay or the wiring harness. at a cost of 328.00. he told me off the record if i wiggle the wiring harness it may work for a while since the harness most likely was incorrectly routed.. i have talked to many colorado and gmc canyon owners both in person and on internet forums who reported that they are having the same exact problem. this issue could be a safety issue especially in the winter time when the defogger is really needed to keep the windows clear for safe driving. i initially thought that it was just a simple burned out motor , and i would just need to replace it. but since what i was told from the dealer service writer, and what others have said in the forums, i would be wasting money especially is it is from a bad wiring harness. i think gm should look into this and make needed repairs. *tr
The a/c heating fan blower does not work on speeds 1,2, or 3, only on speed 4. after doing some research, i found it is related to the fan resistor burning up. i inspected my truck and found the same problem. the plastic is burnt and has started to melt. this can cause a fire in the cab and be vary dangerous. there are numerous complaints here, so i feel this should be investigated. *kb
2006 colorado will not start, fan only works on high speed, all exterior light failed at same time, all stereo components have gone out, driver information system was faulty and replaced, instrument cluster randomly not working. abs light randomly coming on. these are all of the major problems that have been occurring with this truck. the non-starting is the ignition housing module, that gm is aware is a problem. i have tried many many times to express these problems to gm. they tell me they are unrelated as they are electrical components for different areas of the vehicle. my response has been they are all electrical components of the same vehicle. i have read a lot of on line complaints and they all seem to be the same problems. gm needs to be a stand up company, and stand behind their product like they keep telling me they do. these problems are occurring some much now my truck will be in the shop twice this month for different electrical repairs. both repairs bills being in excess of $300.00 - $500.00. it is very dangerous to have this vehicle just die in interstate traffic. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet colorado. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the contact stated that he turned the key and the engine would not start but when he released the key, the vehicle started independently. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection however, the technicians did not locate a failure within the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. the failure mileage was 78,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet colorado. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start until after waiting ten minutes. the failure was related to the faulty pass lock cylinder. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
Vehicle fails to start after shutoff. passlock failure. happens regularly. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet colorado. the contact stated that the abs and traction control lights illuminated, the left turn signal failed intermittently and the heater blower switch only work on the fourth setting. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000 and the current mileage was approximately 44,000.
Passlock feature engages and the engine will not start. engine turns over but this feature blocks fuel from allowing engine to fire. this has occurred several times out of the blue. i turn the vehicle off while getting gas and it won't start, passlock has struck! *tr
2006 chevy colorado will not start with proper key. when attempting to start vehicle, ignition switch malfunctions and will make anti theft system think vehicle is being stolen. proper key is being used and spare key has been used to verify problem. have researched internet and lot of the chevy colorado's are having the same problem new or not. gm wants $400 to fix a clearly faulty part. *tr
Fan control only works on fan speed 4. positions 1 thru 3 do not work. after research on internet found the information on the grounding block for the fan control circuit. checked the connector for this and found corrosion and slightly darkened connector due to heat buildup due to the corrosion. also you can get the fan control to work on all settings if you move the wires around on the connector so it makes good contact but this is only a temporary fix. this will be come worse as time goes by and if the heat buildup is high enough it could very possibly result in a fire in the cabin of the vehicle... there are a high number of complaints about this issue and this should be investigated for a possible recall. *tr
I could have written this complaint six months ago, because this problem has been going on for at least a year and is now becoming more frequent. my 2006 chevrolet colorado will turn over but will not crank. i wait exactly 10 minutes and then it will start. this is now happening about twice a week. when i've taken it to the dealer at least three times, the dealer could not replicate the problem. on the third time i had it at the dealer, i went to pick up the truck after being told, once again, that they could find nothing wrong; when i tried to start it, the same thing happened. by the time they rolled the computer to it, the 10 minutes had passed and they, again, could find nothing wrong. this is very frustrating and stressful because the truck is fairly new and has been well taken care of, but i can't depend on it to start. i know other colorado owners are having the same problem. i would really like to have a solution. *tr
My 2006 chevrolet colorado has been at the two different dealerships and the problem is occurring. problem, is that the motor will turn over but will not start. after 10 minutes the vehicle will turn over and then start. since the dealer can't replicate no error codes are reported when connected to the computer. this happens intermittently. *tr
06 chevy colorado vehicle fails to start after shutoff. passlock failure. happens regularly. stopped to fix a tire on the side of the road after changing the tire it would not start. 4am on the side of the road having to wait 10 mins till it rest so i could start it. happens all the time. *tr
Truck shuts off while driving. pass lock faults out. i was taking a turn the other day while driving 40 miles per hour when my truck died. this is the third time its happened. *tr
Brake lamps blow our regularly every week or two; blower motor quits intermittently due to rusted corroded connector; instrument panel fails intermittently, nothing works (gauges, lamps, odometer) but engine runs. brake issue has persisted now for two years. blower started in early 09 and instrument panel just started oct 09. *tr
