My car is leaking gas at a seal on the driver's side by the rear wheel. when car starts leaks out fast but even when sitting still leaking
Leak in my fuel line by rear drivers side tire. only this small portion of line is leaking.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. when the vehicle was started, the contact noticed a fuel odor. the contact also noticed fuel underneath the fuel tank and fuel coming from the fuel pump. the contact called an unknown dealer who referred him to the manufacturer. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the vehicle was not officially diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 113,338.
Car has terrible start first thing in the morning. it went from washington to gulfport mississippi. started about a week ago smelled gas. looked under fuel tank and found a sizeable puddle or fuel which i assume is pressurizing as it sits and then has to pressurize the fuel system again when it starts. it's practically a bomb with wheels and my daughter sits in it. it will be fine starting for about 10 minutes if you shut it off and crank it after it will do that all over again
Interior of car started to fill up with gasoline fumes, while on the road.i had to open all the windows and sunroof.i got off parkway and inspected car for gas leaks.there were none so i took local roads home.by the time i got home i was lightheaded .the chevy dealership told me all my fuel lines were rotted out and had to be replaced.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that after parking the vehicle in the driveway smelt fuel but noticed no leak however noticed that the rear of the vehicle was on fire. the contact was able to extinguish the fire. the contact then started the vehicle and noticed fuel spraying on the exhaust pipe. the contact stated he jacked the vehicle up to inspect the undercarriage and noticed that the fuel line was severely rusted. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 141,000.
Fuel line is leaking in 4 places. some 2009 cobalts were recalled for this issue. dealer tells me entire line needs to be repaired front to back.
Rusted and leaking fuel line under the car just in front of the rear drivers side tire. water and debris was trapped inside silver heat tape accelerating the rust of the lines.
Heavy fuel smell. after researching, found fuel line all rusted out at clamp between drivers side door and right rear wheel. the car sat idle for three days and the temps outside where very hot. after reading on-line posts, i see that many people with this vehicle has the exact same problem.
The fuel line started leaking in front of the rear tire on the drivers side of the vehicle. the vehicle was parked, and was having a difficult time starting. i stepped out of the vehicle and found a large puddle of gas under my vehicle.
My car fuel pump modulator problem. that has been on recall. but not for my vehicle. i do not know the history of what stat it origionally was bought in. but i think if those cars have recall why shouldnt mine? it now leaks gas under gas tank and when i tried to start it gives me hard time. it started 7/2019. makes car bog down when accelerating. does it sitting and when moving
High pressure fuel line leak. only occurs when the car in running
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. while pumping fuel, the contact noticed a leak underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to eriksen chevrolet (located at 325 1st ave e, milan, il 61264, (309) 756-2700) where it was determined that diagnostic testing was needed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was unknown.
My car smells like gas inside and out. chevy dealership says that it is fuel line leakage which has been reported by many for this model. but for some reason, my vin was not included in the recall which was done in 2012. fuel line leak did not happen in my car until now. it is like driving around in a fuel bomb with my little kids. it is too expensive to pay out of my pocket ($1100) for a car that is not worth much.
The fuel pump stopped working. after inspection the fuel pump was charred and the electrical plug running from the lid that locks under the tank locking ring crumbled apart. it was so burnt its a wonder a fire didn't start since it's inside the tank. to make things worse the lid that seals in the connector and all the hoses to the fuel pump is non existent. the part number is not even listed.
Fuel smell coming from car when just sitting, started small, now fuel/gas is gushing out. had to have car towed. mechanic stated fuel line was rusted through and cracking. i live in a state in which rusting should not be a factor. this is obviously a gm manufacturing problem and should be recalled. this is my only transportation. called gm to see if it was recalled and they said no. while some have been recalled my vin has not. gm excludes this from their special circumstances coverage as well. i have looked on line and i'm not the only one with this problem, not the only one gm has failed to acknowledge and repair. this is a huge safety issue as the car could catch fire with this type of fuel leak. please help, due to the inability to drive it, i'm now stuck paying $650-$850 repair bill. gm needs to acknowledge this safety problem and reimburse me as this should be a recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that the vehicle did not start and spilled fuel without warning. the vehicle was towed to scenic chevrolet (864-622-2555, located at 3449 blue ridge blvd, west union, sc 29696) where it was stated that the repairs for nhtsa campaign number: 14v047000 (air bags, electrical system) and nhtsa campaign number: 14v171000 (electrical system) could not be performed due to corroded fuel lines. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the contact noticed an abnormal fuel odor inside and outside of the vehicle. the contact also observed fuel leaking from the fuel tank. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the driver's side quarter panel and fuel line were corroded. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 127,500.
We have owned a 2009 chevy cobalt for 3 years - and each year, something has had to be replaced/repaired with the fuel system. the first year, the fuel pump had to be replaced and was paid for out of pocket. the second year, the fuel pump had to be replaced again and was covered under a recall. once again, the car is acting the same as before each time the fuel pump had to be replaced (strong gas odor, leaking fuel, decreased power when turning especially, as if sufficient fuel isn't being supplied to the motor) for the third year in a row. i contacted the manufacturer to report the repeat concerns (case # 9-4957891748) and was told that there is a special coverage adjustment (#12191) available for a fuel pump module replacement that our car may qualify for and was directed to take it to any gm dealership for a diagnostic review which i did the same day. i just received a call from the dealership and based on their diagnostic review, the problem this time is due to the fuel lines rusting out, which would not be covered under the special coverage adjustment. there are only 121,000 miles on our vehicle and it is kept in a garage when not being driven. needing to replace the fuel lines now after having to have the fuel pump replaced twice (and all within 3 years) seems to be poor craftsmanship on behalf of the manufacturer, and after researching similar concerns online reveals an abundance of similar complaints of continued fuel system repairs/malfunctions of other chevy cobalt owners for the same year vehicle. it is unsafe to drive a vehicle that consistently has a compromised fuel system, and deems further response and accountability from the manufacturer to the excessive number of consumers that have been provided a vehicle that is dangerous to operate, and have been placed under the unnecessary financial burden of repeat repairs and concerns.
Fuel leaking from driver rear side immediately after turning on and starting car sitting stationary. no damage or accident prior to the leak. just one day started leaking.
Fuel tank is leaking gas. strong gas smell. after letting car warm up, noticed significant leaking under car. after refueling, noticed leaking under car; examination of actual fluid on ground under car smelled strongly of gasoline. car leaks when stationary, or over bumps, rough road.
I have 2009 cobalt with 87.5k miles has rusted out fuel line near clip under driver's side. car has hard start due to lack of pressure in line and leaked while driving and parked. the entire line needs replaced. not covered under recall, but is the exact same issue that was previously recalled in other states. this is an expensive repair. i have owned the car since driven off the lot and took car of underside due to previous known recalls, it is well maintained. due to the proximity of the leak to the exhaust, this is major safety issue. my car wasn't drivable and the parts were difficult to find from dealers. i had mine replaced at national chain repair shop for about $600 compared to what dealer would have charged. looking at database this is a serious issue due to the nature of it being a fuel leak, especially with exhaust so close to the leak. a recall needs to be issued or expanded to ensure the safety while driving. no one should have to worry about their car blowing up or catching fire. dealers seem clueless as does the manufacturer which will probably now claim this is due to age of the car since many reports are on cars 10 years old at this point.
Gasoline leaking in front of left rear wheel beside exhaust pipe.leaking all the time sitting or moving leaking in same place as recalled cobalts in 2012 that was in a hand full of warm states.pa is as warm as any other state
There is a smell of fuel and seepage seems to coming from the top of the fuel tank. this just started and is really noticeable when the car is parked.
Fuel line rotting out. fuel spraying onto exhaust system when driving.potential fire/explosion safety concern. contacted dealer of purchase no recall / no help.
Leaking fuel right under the driverside by the back driverside tire. big noticeable puddle of fuel. can't be good for gas by heat
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the contact smelled a fuel odor inside the vehicle. an independent mechanic stated that the two fuel lines were rusted and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the failure mileage was 81,200.
Strong fuel smell, trouble starting car, no visible leak. not covered under cobalt fuel recall. the problems indicate the issue is exactly what the recall is for. chevrolet needs to expand the recall to get these unsafe cars fixed.
Fuel lines bad and leaking the dealer stated it wasnt under recall but did tell me that it should of been as many as he has fixed over 100 of them since 07 cobalts. the cost over 600.00 dollars. it will sit until i win the lottery chevy should step up and fix it for free.i just paid the car off last month go figure.
Gas was leaking from the fuel tank. bolts and straps holding fuel tank were rusted and dealer had to remove.
Purchased used 2009 chevrolet cobalt lt coupe vehicle smells if gasoline but vin number not included in recall. visible puddle of gas under passenger side of car. car does not accelerate properly and the gasoline depletes quickly. need repairs and replacements. gm needs to expand recall. there are way too many other vehicle owners complaining of the same thing. i have children as i'm sure many of us do, i'm not willing to risk their lives because gm hasn't included enough vehicles in the original recall.
Noticed fuel leaking from plastic fuel line under car. car was originally purchased in texas by my aunt and i understand many cars of the same type have this very same problem. while i just noticed this and there has not been a fire to my car as of now related to this i am very concerned. this is a safety issue as it could possibly cause a fire due to the nature of the problem.
If my tank is quite full it leaks gas toward the drivers side, i have a small puddle where ever it sits. i first noticed a strong odor than couple days later a puddle of gas it probably does it also while driving to.. dont have camera to take pictures.
Have a small puddle leaking from underneath my car on drivers side
I just recently purchased this 2009 chevy cobalt ls sedan and i only had it since mid august 2018 and all was fine when i purchased. now i have a strong odor of gasoline from under drivers side rear wheel area after being driven for a while and then parked . i called the gm hotline that i was able to find online and they said that its an out of pocket problem and that my vin doesn't qualify for the recall which has been issued in several other states for free of charge. how can this be allowed, fixed in one state free of charge by gm and not fixed at all in another. a fuel problem or a leak of ant kind should be a concern for gm and is a major issue.i'm located in pennsylvania but my vin says i don't qualify for this recall offered elsewhere,so should i have to foot a repair bill for an issue that gm most definitely knows about. i'm confused, the problem is the same as being described on the recall for the other areas yet i should have to pay because this recall is not in pennsylvania. the recall should be for all affected vehicles not just some of them and free of charge .i relayed info to a gm rep on 9/10 /18 in the evening and all she could do was apoligize and then tell me that it depended on which manufacturing plant made the vehicle. what that has to do with it stumps me i told her that is shoddy and sub standard work should be repaired at general motors expense not hard working people who don't have an extra $1000 or so sitting around to shell out. all i seem to be getting is the run around. a problem like this should be of grave concern to general motors and not given so some owners and not others. i'm sure if it was their vehicle it would be promptly recalled and repaired. please help if possible. this just isn't good business general motors needs to make this right for all. thank you for your consideration
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. while driving, the contact stated that a fuel odor came through the vents of the vehicle. the contact also stated that fuel was leaking from the fuel line next to the exhaust pipe while fueling the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to miller brothers chevrolet (9035 baltimore national pike, ellicott city, md 21042, (410) 988-6165) where it was diagnosed that fuel was leaking from the fuel line, which was connected to the chassis, and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer stated that the vin was not included in a recall. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 240,000.
Air bag light has been on for a long time .but i noticed a puddle of gas under car and had to take it in to get fixed i have read on here many problems with this same issue hopefuuly it will be a recall
Car started to leak fuel fairly quickly, presumably for no real reason. only had the car for a few months, had the oil changed at the dealership and i noticed a very strong gas smell soon after, checked under and car was dripping gas.
The cobalt is leaking gas from a line near the rear of the vehicle. the car is losing a significant amount of gas when driving and when parked while not in use. gas pools under the car, the smell is very strong and easily recognized as gas. since i noticed the smell, the check engine light has illuminated. there is a recall for this model/year of cobalt for the issue i am experiencing, however my car does not have the recall. i wanted to reach out because i believe this recall could have affected my car along with the others made in the same plant.
Fuel line leaking right at gas tank. smelled fuel when i stopped for the last week or so. finally look under and lines are completely corroded. looking online this seems to be a very very common issue that is very famous and expensive to fix.
Fuel leaking from vehicle causing a dangerous gas puddle under the vehicle and gas vapors shaping into vehicle. gm covers this issue for this make and model but doesn't cover all vins with special bulletin 12191b.
Fuel smell and found the bottom of the gas tank wet and dripping, forming a puddle of fuel underneath the car. the leak only happens when the car is started and running. overnight the fuel has evaporated from the floor and doesn't begin leaking again until car is started and running.
My car had a major gas leak, took it to a local garage and had it repaired. mechanic said i should check into getting reimbursed. i took the repair bill to ganley chevrolet dealer located at 13865 brookpark rd, brookpark oh 44142. man in service department checked with his supervisor about reimbursement then gave me form to fill out to send to gmac for reimbursement. i contacted gmc to verify the correct mailing address and mailed the form to them on august 6th they said i should get the reimbursement. i didn't hear back so i called them on oct 15th. they wanted me to fax paperwork and registration to them and said reimbursement would be forthcoming. i faxed the paperwork to them on october 18th. i received a call on october 25th and was told no reimbursement. my car had less than 38,000 miles on it at the time of the repair, mechanic said lines on fuel pump assembly were dry rotted and that should not have happened. he had to drop the tank and replace the lines and the fuel pump assembly. cost for the repair was $486.00. gmac refused to reimburse me for the repairs. i filed a complaint with the bbb and they referred me to the state secretary, i contacted ruth johnson, secretary of the state of michigan per bbb instructions. i received a letter from her that i should contact you. there was a recall on this particular problem with the car but per gmac it is no longer valid. can you help?
Fuel leaking from rusted fuel line at exact place where many other colbalts are leaking. mount used to secure lines or tape used to insulate lines trap water and cause premature rusting. line and leak is approx. 5 to 6 inches from exhaust pipe.
Fuel lines have started leaking very costly to repair this vehicle needs to be recalled and these fuel lines replaced this is a safety issue
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that the vehicle emitted a strong fuel odor while driving or while parked. the contact inspected the vehicle and found fuel on the ground. the vehicle was taken to an unknown chevrolet dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel line was leaking. the contact inspected the vehicle and found that the fuel pump was leaking. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 215,000.
So, i open the switch of the car and when i see was a big leak of gas on the floor and i double check and it was gasoline i scared and don't move the car. i check on line and they said the cobalt 2009 has a recall for this problem 12v459000 fuel system and i call the dealer and said my car not covered for recall. is very dangerus can get fire and involved lives.
Gas smell after driving car. this is a recall for this year and model vehicle, but only in hot climates! so what if our car blows up in our garage due to gas fumes. the gas fume volume is high, and i feel unsafe.
Noticeable gas smell for several days and then noticed gas dripping from fuel line just in front of the drivers side rear wheel. leak was at a clamp attached to the underbody. dripping at a rate of 20-30 drops a minute.
Car started to have a fuel smell after turning off the vehicle and exiting the car to the driver side rear wheel. the smell would only happen when exiting. after looking under, i noticed a small puddle of fuel on the ground, and after further inspection, i found that the fuel lines have a leak around the clip holding the fuel lines onto frame.
