Have a leak on my fuel line on the rear passenger side. see many people complain about it.. fuel is dripping on the ground. this is a huge fire hazard waiting to happen
#12192b excessive gas leak from fuel pump module while car is turned on. i see their is a special document for this problem
There is a very strong odor of gasoline coming from inside and out of my vehicle when parked and engine is off/on and when the vehicle is in motion. the smell has made my children nautious and given us headaches. and after doing some research i'm seeing very similar cases with the cobalts of other years that are being recalled but mine is not. i beleive it is the same issue as the 2009 cobalts aswell as the saturn ions.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet cobalt. the contact noticed a fuel leak under the rear driver's side of the vehicle in front of the rear tire. mauer chevrolet (1055 50th st e, inver grove heights, mn 55077, (651) 212-2980) confirmed that there was no recall advised the contact to bring in the vehicle for a repair estimate. the manufacturer also confirmed that there was no recall and also could not assist with the repair costs. the manufacturer provided a case number to the contact. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 114,000.
Smelled gas while running, driving, & after turned off, has fuel leak. fuel line eroded where they insulated the metal line!
Increasingly the vehicle is not operating properly. the lighting is not consistent and the smallest addition of extra features requiring power (ex: using one or more window controls, heater and or defogger, lighting in dash at full capacity, musical performance, radio and bass, etc) will cause the power of existing devices to flutter or surge for example the headlights will dim out when turning the windows down or the vehicle will begin to vibrate and shake even more almost as though it is overpowering and wanting to shut down or quit. also the rpms will feel like they are hiccuping or bouncing down and up more than usual and at random times and speeds at times seems like its going to red line even if you take your foot off the gas. this is also a bit of the same type of issue but it is the opposite when you push the gas it hesitates or something like that glitches or jolts and gains power very slowly and has a hard time accelerating and gaining speed (seems gutless?) . and at stop lights and whenever parked its rumbles and shakes all together let alone if you are using the radio or heat etc it's loud enough to have to get the people in vehicle to almost yell when talking over it or if you are in a drive through the person can't hear you and either have to stut off the engine or speak to them in person at the next window. also when you are slowing down to stop it almost seems the engine will be faster than the body or something like that (i know sounds crazy but i don't know how to explain it any other way) . i've come to the conclusion that it will be fuel and or electricity related or both. its also randomly showing a few different codes and then suddenly they go away all to do with fuel pressure or syster or evap type thing. without clearing them they resolve themselves without any work or anything witch also seems very oddto me. thankyou in advance for reading.
The car is leaking gas from the fuel line. the spot is by the back side driver rear wheel
The car is leaking fuel, it first came to notice when parked in my garage, the odor of fuel was so strong i was afraid to open the garage door or start the car for fear of a spark starting a fire and burning my house down! the dealership told me the fuel lines are corroded and leaking. i am shocked that such a critical component is made of materials that could ever be compromised during ordinary use, especially when leaking gasoline is such an obvious safety hazard. i opened a case with chevrolet, #[xxx], but was told fuel lines are considered a maintenance issue. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tt
Fuel tank leak after a short driving trip. i saw an nhtsa case or complaint # 12v45900 that others with similar gm vehicles (cobalt, ion, g5) had same problem. when i called a local dealer they said no open recalls. also contacted chevrolet and they sai no open recalls and said it was a customer repair issue.
Rusted fuel line leaking gas. driver side by between doors. i smelled gas when i get in it and start it up. just started took it to garage they showed me the rusted line and said they need replace. car has 86,000 miles on it.
My cobalt has a strong gas odor coming from inside and outside the vehicle at all times. there is an obvious leak at the back of the tank where the filler hose attaches to the tank. a fuel puddle is present when the vehicle is parked.
I have a 2008 chevrolet cobalt i purchased from a dealership 11 months ago. 3 days ago i get in my car, start it up and all of a sudden i got a strong smell of gasoline. i got out, looked under my car and gas is pouring out from underneath my car. i've read very many complaints just like mine on 2005-2009 chevrolet cobalt's. if all these cobalt's have the same safety issues there needs to be a recall before someone's car goes up in flames and kills one or more people. my car was parked in my driveway, as soon as i turned the key i could smell gas.
Can smell gas when you stop the car . you can smell it really bad when you exit the car. the gas leak is right over top of the exhaust system and i do not know why this is not considered a safety issue. it is evidently leaking when the car is on the road but with the car in motion you do not smell the gas until you stop!
Strong smell of fuel in cabin of car and leaking fuel
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet cobalt. while driving 45 mph, fuel began to leak out from behind the passenger door. the vehicle was taken to ginn chevrolet (8153 access rd, covington, ga 30014, 404-492-5076) where it was diagnosed that the fuel wires had fractured. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 180,000.
Gas tank leak , some states cover as a recall . my state does not. very dangerous!
Takata recall, gas tank, fuel pump was under warranty but fuel line between engine and gas tank was not. several reports on internet and you tube show issues under the vehicle just past drivers door mid section. over 400 to fix on fixed income, with thus being a gas leak and the lines not having a covering was a hazard in an accident and should be a recall item.
Leaking gasoline. chevrolet will not cover gas lines under the emissions warranty, however the dealerships want $650+ to replace the lines. chevrolet wants nothing to do with the warnings, and would rather explain how unsafe it is to drive the vehicle. the fuel lines are not covered and leaking profusely.
Strong odor of gas while vehicle is running and parked. no visible leak. gm customer service stated it is not covered under recall or special coverage 12191b: special coverage adjustment fuel odor or spotting on ground replace fuel pump module (jul 8, 2015) even though vehicle exhibits symptoms described in the recall/special coverage. gm knows about this problem and will not extend the coverage to other states with known problems. this is a highly unsafe defect. gm must feel the cost of wrongful death lawsuits are more cost effective than doing the right thing and repairing these defects.
The car has a smell of gasoline. looked under the car and it appears that there is a leak. the smell is stronger while running the car with air on but circulation button off. noticed this smell while auto in motion.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that while driving at unknown speeds, for twenty minutes gas was leaking out of the tank and the fuel meter decreased to empty. however, there were no visual sign of fuel on the ground. additionally, there was an abnormal odor of gas emerging in and out of the vehicle. the service tire pressure monitor light was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the to contact the local dealer as well as the vehicle was not safe to drive. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 55,875.
Often over cranks for close to 5 seconds with very strong raw gasoline fumes while parked on flat parking lot, inside car and outside car smell strongly. once started i cant recall smelling it because i run the recirculation a/c. the check gas cap notification appears followed by check engine light. i already changed the gas cap with no effect. i have seen recalls on this same problem for the same year and model but i have been told i am not covered by the recall even though it seems to be the same issue. this is a very dangerous situation as this is my only vehicle and i have a toddler riding in this car with me.
A strong odor of gasoline appeared within the last week of a 08 chevrolet cobalt ls. also check engine light comes on and goes off. engine has to be cranked twice to start. checked gas cap, seemed not to be seating/ sealing properly. odbe tester showed no error codes. replaced fuel cap on 10?03/2018 with oem cap. 10/04/2018 while parked in driveway noticed puddle (gas) underneath car in front of left rear tire.(wife drove car from work, noticed stronger odor of gas on way home). checked online forums seeing complaints of leaking gas lines in this area of same model year, it is leaking under a silver shield/insulation.this is near the exhaust pipes running from engine to rear of car. several complaints state that the leak is being caused by cracks and/or corrosion to the fuel lines. check of vin # shows no open safety recalls (car was bought used 3-4 years ago).
Fuel leak on the driver's side rear door area. can see fuel leaking at plastic line. in checking recalls, it seems general motors did issue a recall (number is 12190) for this exact problem, but only in certain states. obviously it is happening in more of the states not included in the original recall. owners online are all posting the same problems.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that a strong fuel odor was noticed when the driver parked the vehicle. a mechanic inspected the vehicle and found that the fuel pump module fractured. the fuel pump module was not replaced. the vehicle was not taken a dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v459000 (fuel system gasoline). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 83,652.
Smelled gas emitting from vehicle while parked, next day strong smell in vehicle, uncomfortable while driving. took to garage and was told it was under recall for fuel pump and lines from the fuel pump. took to gm dealership and was told that the fuel lines were cracked and disintergrated,(cited "northern car"). having no recall effect. pay 850.00 plus out of pocket.
My fuel pump assembly return on the module cracked and disengaged from the pump (equinox) resulting in a bad gas leak. i had to replace it friday, august 10, 2018. the cost was $691.60.
Gas line leaking on drivers side by the rear tire ! strong gas odor
Strong smell of fuel coming into the cabin of the car and soon after a fuel leak. this has been a ongoing problem with the cobalts.
Fuel line from pump to engine leaking from hole in line due to rubbing on chassis
Fuel leak caused by rusted fuel line. fuel leaks near the rear exhaust pipe, creating a potential fire hazard.
Fuel lines rusted through in front of gas tank and leak gasoline.
Strong gasoline odor from vehicle when parked and during operation. very likely same problem addressed in nhtsa campaign 09v419000. recommend that recall should include all model years with faulty fuel pump assembly, and should apply nationwide, not just "hot" states.
Car had trouble starting and had a strong odor of gasoline. i took the car to a mechanic and was told there was a fuel leak.
The fuel line rust out and leaks gas. this is a very dangerous situation but apparently not covered by recall 12v459000. this gas leak should defiantly included in that recall. my car is driven by a teenager and he did not notice the leak until i saw it. the repairs were over $800.00. this happened to both of our chevy cobalts in the same week.
Strong smell of gasoline coming from vehicle. hesitation upon first starting vehicle. obvious signs of a gasoline leak from cracked fuel pump modulator which posed a fire risk.
Strong gasoline odor during startup, and sometimes after i turn it off. vin #: 1g1ak18f087105601
The dash message says power steering. as i was excellerating in the on ramp of the highway, the rpm jumped up to 6,000 all on its own and now it will not shift gears, does not read any mph, and can barely go more than 20mph. this was unexpected and had no warnings prior to. although it still functions (turns on, runs, has all power available, has reverse) it is ultimately disabled. also, the fuel lines/ fuel pump failed causing a gas leak, making it a challenge to start the vehicle. i have patched the fuel line as a temporary fix. i have already replaced the lower control arms and the timing chains at my own expense
Recall !! my car vin # doesn't have any recalls but my car fits the description of the recall fuel leakage around where the hose hooks up and also my fuel gage doesn't work
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet cobalt. the contact noticed a strong odor of fuel and noticed fuel leaking underneath the vehicle. the contact stated that the fuel gauge was not working. the dealer (sunrise chevrolet buick gmc, 4605 s houston levee rd, collierville, tn 38017) was contacted and a technician informed the contact the dealer would not be responsible for the repair cost since the vehicle was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 263,000.
I woke up to find that my car was leaking fuel. there was no accident or incident. the leak is from the rear driver's side. this seems to be described in other 2008 chevrolet cobalts and is covered in some cases under a recall #12191b. my vin is not included so i was hoping to raise awareness that this problem continues to occur on cars of this year and model.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet cobalt. while driving at unknown speeds, the contact noticed an abnormal fuel odor. additionally, fuel was leaking from the vehicle near the tank. the local dealer was not contacted and the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 150,000.
I have been smelling gas from my car for a few weeks now. i could even see it dripping when i stood close to the car. had a mechanic look at it and he told me the fuel pump and hose needs to be replaced because it was cracked.he wanted $550 to repair it. i can't afford to repair it right now.
Fuel leak - fuel line and evap line are steel and routed neat driver rear wheel. fuel and evap line are exposed to road salts and other environmental factors resulting in corrosion leading to fuel leaks
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet cobalt. whether the vehicle was parked or while driving at unknown speeds, the contact noticed an abnormal fuel odor. additionally, there was fuel leaking underneath the vehicle. the local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet cobalt. while driving various speeds, fumes were present inside and outside the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to freedom chevrolet (212 e 5th st s, big stone gap, va 24219, phone number: (276) 565-8955) where it was diagnosed that the fuel line was corroded, which caused fuel to leak. the fuel line needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 143,699.
2008 chevy cobalt with 88,000 miles, in great exterior and interior condition started experiencing a strong fuel odor after driving vehicle. took in to dealership where they notified owner of a ruptured fuel line which was causing a fuel leak. fuel leak coming from rusted fuel lines. this specific issue has been under recall for this specific make and model and gear of car but because owner vin # wasn't under recall, gm will not take responsibility or fix. this is a serious issue that can lead to a dangerous situation (i.e. automobile fire). how can this issue be under recall for chevy cobalts but not a specific car due to vin #. clearly the issue is beyond what they've recalled. there have been many other chevy cobalts experiencing the same exact issue and gm won't take responsibility for and fix.
Issue #1) fuel leak from top of fuel tank. this creates a strong fuel smell in cabin during any operation, and fuel leaking on driveway after operation. fumes are strong enough that any open flame in cabin would detonate creating death and/or critical injury. the fuel pump has been replaced once in aug 2017 costing over $600 dollars. issue #2) both interior front door handles have broken resulting in doors being unable to open doors normally. to open doors, windows must be cranked down opening doors using the outside handle. the failure area is where door latch cable connects to rear of door handles. both door handles have been replaced, but replaced service handles have sharp edges from plastic flash. both issues are critical to safe vehicle operation. this could result in death and/or critical injury if either issue fails during any vehicle operation. as a disabled veteran, husband and father, both vehicle issues are dangerous and lack the resources to keep repairing these failures. an investigation, recall and/or replacement is needed asap. *js
Smelled the strong scent of gas while driving my 2008 chevy cobalt. while parked i noticed the car was leaking gas near the front/driver side of the car. took it to a mechanic immediately after noticing that the puddle of gas was getting larger fairly quickly. after taking a look at the car my mechanic informed me that both the pressure and the return fuel lines needed to be replaced. he also let me know that he had called the closest dealership for the parts but they had just sold their last ones. apparently i wasn't the first person to have this issue, and actually it was quite a popular problem with certain cobalts.
