The car says service airbag the steering is hard to turn and it makes a good knocking noise when you go out low-speed a high-speed make it difficult to leave on the road and make you swear it pulls to the left and it's horrible and gas
Fuel smell around rear of car. chevrolet refused to repair despite a known issue and recall. paid $1100. at non dealer to diagnose and repair. leaking fuel lines on top of gas tank from in tank fuel pump.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. while operating the vehicle, the odor of fuel was present inside the cabin. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that fuel was leaking from the top of the fuel tank and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer and jk chevrolet (1451 s hwy 69, nederland, tx 77627) were notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. while operating the vehicle, the odor of fuel was present inside and outside the vehicle. upon inspection, the contact noticed puddles of fuel underneath the vehicle. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 180,000.
Got oil leak
Tamara recall i have a fuel leak and it is spilling out at my residence when i started smelling gas.w hen i drove it to work gas was spilling out like water.
Fuel lines corroded through leaking enough gas that a puddle would form under the vehicle by the rear driver's side tire when stopped. when towed to the dealer the fuel started leaking by only turning the key to the on position without starting the car.
There is a terrible gas fume smell from inside the car. it is stronger on the passenger side where the fuel tank is. the check engine light is also on, again. this happened around 125,500 miles.
Vehicle keeps stalling and shutting down when turning or a speed bump. was informed it was the fuel pump. *tr
I was driving my car and i noticed a strong fuel odor coming from my car. i pulled into a parking lot. left the car running and saw a huge puddle of fuel dripping down onto the ground from the top of the fuel tank. one of the lines right at the fitting into the fuel pump is cracked. they have this already recalled, but only in 15 states and mine isn't one of them. i want chevy to issue a 50 state recall for this issue. my car could of caught fire and i could of died. this is a very serious issue. a year ago i had to replace the fuel lines from the fuel filter to the fuel rail in the engine because the metal tubing rusted out and cracked. they need to be stainless steel not pot metal. their is no recall on those fuel lines, but i read lots of complaints for the same issue. i don't have any photos only video of it dripping.
I already had a recall on the fuel pump or modular and then on the ignition switch. the check engine light has always been on. they couldn't get it to go off even when they did those repairs, then one day the turn signals stopped turning off after making a turn. the newest problem and the scariest one to me is now a gas leak. i went out and started my car, started to reverse and then smelled a strong odor of gas. i stopped and noticed my gas gauge actually going down. so i shut the car off hurried up and got my kids out and then saw the gas pouring on the road from under my car. i can't believe the problems that i've had with this car. chevy needs to be held accountable for these problems. it's their cheap mistakes. the only reason i have continued to keep the car is because it belonged to my little brother who died in a tragic car cash with his pregnant fianc and my father. so i haven't wanted to part with it. i have seen that others have had the same problems and apparently there was recalls for some of these problems on others but not for my vin. how is that right? they need to be responsible for fixing this and they need to fix everything correctly this time. i need help with this problem, i'm not sure where else to turn at this point.
Recall number 09v419000 recall date 10/29/2009 component fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump i'm having the same problems with my car as this recall, but because my vin isn't flagged the dealership won't repair my vehicle.
I had noticed a smell of fuel coming from my vehicle shortly after parking the vehicle, or if it was idling in one space for quite some time. this smell of fuel developed into a fuel drip on to the ground. researched the concern online, and found there is a recall out for this concern, but not for the state i am currently in. there is a "special coverage" issued (bulletin 12191b) instead for my state which states i can have this concern fixed free of charge. i took it to a dealer, they confirmed i am covered by this special coverage. the dealer has now denied to do the work and forced me to pay for a tow to a different dealer to have the concern fixed, as they refused to carry out the repair.
Gasoline leaking from the fuel tank ports where inlet and or outlet hoses are connected. the leak originates from the tank connection, not from any specific hose. it amounts to a gravity leak of fuel from the tank when it is full or nearly so. chevrolet has issued special coverage #12191b to manage the safety defect presumably to avoid a nhtsa recall. my vin number, even though it falls within the range affected and production time and geography, is said to be not included. so we have fuel leaking onto hot exhaust pipes inside an enclosed garage from a poorly designed fuel tank and fittings. seems to be a pr and monetary exposure chevrolet would not like to risk. but stockholders run the company now. this problem likely originated in 2016 based on reports from owners of the entire run of cobalts. this will kill owners at some point if it hasn't already.
Gas leak
Takata recall: i recently purchased a vehicle from someone (private owner) and as the tags will soon expire so i decide to get what needs maintenance done to turn that check engine light off. i got a free estimate from o' reilly's and told me to go to chevy and get the maintenance done to my safety recalls. next morning i drive over to chevy's dealership where i was denied any recall being done by an employee named sean popplewell. i told him to print me out a paper of what had been done, needing to be done and also took it up with the manager. the service manager confirms i cannot be denied for a maintenance but sees that the only maintenance open online is a service update and that there is nothing they can do salvaged or not. as i recently purchased the vehicle i am being denied my right to a safety recall, not only being denied while driving my 1 and a half year old son, in a vehicle who's check engine light is on due to the safety recalls that i am being denied to. i am within my right to 10 years after the recall is distributed to get the recall done within that time, they are not allowing me too. the car is 100% driveable but i need to get this taken care of so i am not denied in my smog test. i was also not the original owner and the law states that i am not held accountable for a previous owners lack of responsibility, i was not aware, i've never had received proper notification i should not be denied service. it's sad to know they have denied me these rights in front of myself and my 1 and a half year old who is in the car 24.7.
Fuel line rusted out on drivers side because of heat wrap
The vehicle can mess up from either driving down the highway or trying to accelerate the vehicle on city street or highway that the engine stalls and says "engine power reduced" the check engine light along with the t/c light comes on. it happens multiple times in just 30 minutes of driving, more for longer trips. it will even do it in 10 minutes of driving. you have to pull over and turn vehicle off for a few minutes and then it drives fine for maybe a mile down the road before it does it again, or, you can continue driving it with the pedal all the way to the floor board trying to get speed which if you do the car shifts gear very badly and rides rough but when you're trying to get to work on time you do what you have too. i have taken the vehicle to a mechanic 3 times over this. throttle body was changed (twice), they replaced the computer and cleaned the wires. one mechanic was the chevrolet dealership and they told me they needed it there when it happened to better diagnose the situation. i do not have the ability to let them just keep my vehicle. i have had this vehicle for a little over a year. i bought it used. i have a loan on the vehicle and i am scared to drive this any further than i have to because i know the vehicle will mess up. i have two children that i have to put in this vehicle to take places. this vehicle is extremely unsafe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i want help with this situation!! this first happened in november of 2016. i do not know the day specifically. i do remember it did not fall under the dealerships warranty that i got it from.
My 2006 cobalt keeps smelling like gasoline fuel. i checked the botom and it is leaking fuel not sure if its from fuel lines on gas tank.
Car is leaking gas badly from top of gas tank.
There was a regional recall done on the fuel pump module on many different gm vehicles. due to a crack in the plastic around the modular caused by extreme heat exposure. when the issue occurs, it leaks gas and fumes, also there is a very prominent gas smell surrounding the entire vehicle hours after being parked. i live in kentucky, my vin is between the vin breakpoints on the recall but due to my region, i'm not included in the recall. gm to save money has made a special policy concerning this issue to fix the problem and pay fully but because it is not a "safety concern" which was said to me by chevrolet customer representative paul, it wasn't a dire issue. this is a safety concern directly stated by nhtsa, and the part in general should be recalled completely not just regionally. i am now, due to it being my only transportation, until i can afford a rental, driving a vehicle that is leaking gas and fumes due to a faulty factory part put on my vehicle by gm. this issue should be addressed. consumers are in danger and due to not being in a certain "region" we are risky our safety and the safety of others because we can not get a fair recall done.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. while driving unknown speeds, there was an abnormal fuel odor and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was a fuel leak. the contact called the local dealer (munday chevrolet, 17800 north fwy houston, tx 77090) and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 81,744.
My 2006 chevy cobalt ss smells of gas both inside and outside of the car. i researched this issue with my make/model/year of car and found that other states (not mine), had a recall involving the fuel pump on this car. i don't understand why other states didn't recall this issue when many other states have complaints about this issue? i live in michigan and many others have posted the same problem with their car yet none of us are in the 2 states with the recall. all states should be included as this can cause a fire! i shouldn't have to pay for this to be fixed when it is obvioulsy a serious problem!
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. the contact smelled a strong odor of fuel throughout the vehicle. the contact was concerned that the vehicle could catch fire. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic (red carpet automotive) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump module was cracked. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 169,000.
My car started smelling like gasoline really strongly the past 2 weeks. im very concerned.
A few days ago, we were in the garage and a strong odor of gasoline was coming from our car, a 2006 chevy cobalt. we checked online to get this problem fixed and noticed that only cobalts manufactured in arizona and nevada were covered. really gm. since we live in ohio, our safety is not high on the list as those who live in arizona and nevada. i really hope that nhtsa can enforce a recall so this issue can be fixed. there are many complaints surrounding this issue on the internet.
Bought car in 2016 from silver eagle auto mall in missouri. call randomly cuts out while driving on city streets in on highway and have to pull over. have there very close to accidents on multiple occasions. battery an alternator have been replaced it does not just dial industrial back up it starts right back up. now as of august 1st 2018 i am currently smelling strong gas once i get out of car with children... can smell a lot from driver side it may seem also this car has started smelling like gas outside of car car won't start sometimes i'm playing multiple turns with keys and is now cutting out even more while driving... been having problems with car since i bought it far as random cutting out i don't know where the smell is coming from it is not from under hood....
Back gas smell.
Smelled gas outside and inside car while driving and parked. looked under car and gas was leaking from fuel line in front of driver rear tire. fuel line in close quarters with exhaust and was spraying onto exhaust pipe. contacted dealer to check on price of repair or recall and dealer stated they have had many cobalts similar year with leaking fuel line in same location. stated gm used an absorbent heat wrap on that section of fuel line and that is corroding the line. cost for replacing lines was over $800. i am deciding on repair route due to excessive cost of repair. this is an extremely dangerous failure in gm's end and needs the fuel line recalled. appears both lines are leaking right by each other. this is a fire/explosion hazard and is very common. gm recalled the fuel pumps for possible leaks but not these failing lines? my garage kept low mileage (97000) car should not need it's fuel lines replaced already, especially at $800 plus.
Gas is leaking onto the ground on the drivers side under the car. leaks when car is on and for a minutes or two when car is turned off.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. while the vehicle was parked, there was a strong fuel odor present. in addition, fuel was leaking from the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v419000 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
The fuel lines in my 2006 chevy cobalt began leaking yesterday. a fuel smell was noticed in the cabin of the car. i also noticed some dripping fuel in the rear of the car. i took it to my local chevy dealer and was told it was not covered under the previous recall because it was not the plastic line that went into the fuel pump. while off the car just dripped fuel about 1 drop every 10 seconds. while running and stationary it was a steady stream of fuel pouring out.
There is a fuel pump leak. also there is a recall on other cobalts for this problem, but according to the website my car is not covered.
This has happen to me 5 times all at different times. one time i was stationary in a parking lot. the others have been driving down city streets, turning corners and on the highway. i will be driving down the road or just start my car and the gauges just go nuts. my security light will come on my fuel gauge, rpm gauge. and mph gauge will just go to zero. the rpm gauge bounces up to 900-1000 then back to zero. the words on the dash will read low fuel (even if i actually have a full tank) and then it'll cut my power steering and i won't be able to turn at all or barely. i also have a video of it doing it while i was stationary. this is dangerous and has made me almost crash multiple times. and once i actually hit a curb in a parking lot when it decided to happen.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that the plastic supply or return port on the modular reservoir assembly was cracked. the dealer diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new fuel module unit. the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v419000 (fuel system, gasoline). the contact experienced the same failure listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 147,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle shook and shut off. the contact smelled fuel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and replaced the ignition fuel coil, spark plug coil, and fuel pump relay. the failure recurred and the check engine indicator illuminated. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 100,300.
Recently started to notice a fuel odor emanating from under vehicle adjacent to the rear wheels, started to notice appx. two weeks ago. i am aware of the 2009 recall (gm-09226) regarding the 2006 chevrolet cobalt fuel system (fuel pump and cracked fuel lines). so far, there is not any noticeable liquid gasoline, but the odor is prevalent, especially after vehicle is driven. originally thought it might be a venting issue, but not so sure now. gas cap is in good condition. since this vehicle is registered in pa, the 2009 recall did not apply even though my vin is in the recall range. vehicle was purchased in 2010, no recall letter ever received by gm. i had called a local chevrolet dealer to verify vin and if it would apply, but was told my vehicle's vin is not slated for the recall repairs to the fuel system. very concerned due to the potential for a serious problem regarding fuel leaks. trying to determine whether to take to chevrolet dealer for diagnosis or go to a trusted, local mechanic.
Leaking fuel from drivers side in front of rear tire. apparently related to the issue that results in recalls if your car is from certain states which makes no sense at all. it is an obvious problem related to safety on all cars of this year and model number. somehow if you live or bought the car in certain states your safety is not important. the cars all use the same parts! the smell of fuel has been for some time. i just found it dripping fuel today. leaks whether moving or parked.
I am copy/pasting the recall notice. this is happening in a vehicle in mississippi. general motors is recalling certain 2006'2007 chevrolet cobalt, saturn ion, and pontiac g5 vehicles registered in arizona, nevada, california, florida, and texas because of a crack that could possibly develop on the plastic supply or return port of the fuel modular reservoir assembly. this crack could cause a fuel leak that could be observed dripping onto the ground in some cases, causing a possible vehicle performance issue and a fire hazard. dealers will replace the fuel pump module free of charge.
Hi, like many complains my chevy cobalt has been smelling like gas everytime i drive it. i'm really concerned, i went online and found that there has been a recall/special coverage on certain vin numbers. however, i called the local gm and was told that this defect is not covered by a recall. i then went online and found this article http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/download/doc/ucm435709/rcmn-12v459-5432.pdf in which says that all vin numbers should be included, what can i do so that gm fixes this ? can i get a special case number to have this done, gm won't give me one. i'm terribly scared to drive my car, yet i have to commute to college everyday. please help!
Leaking gas spots on ground. vehicle cabin smells of gas and the issue is getting worse by the day. fear of vehicle fire. seems to be same issue as listed in bulletin no.: 09226.
Fuel leak from gas lines at fuel pump and gas tank
I was driving and i pulled over to a very strong gas smell.... i walked around my car, tightened my gas cap. even replaced. and now fuel is pouring out on my drivers side through one of the lines. not covered under a recall for my vehicle. but is very hazardous to drive with.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that there was a strong odor of fuel from the exterior of the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v419000 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that there was strong fuel odor emitted from the vehicle. a puddle of fuel was discovered under the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. the contact had a rebuilt title and the dealer would not acknowledge the special coverage from the manufacturer. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 205,000.
I kept smelling a very strong gas odor and saw gas drops under my car. when driving, car would feel shaky like it wanted to stall and when i stopped at a light or stop sign, the car would shake very hard and then it would actually stall. it started out as a leaky fuel line but turned into both fuel lines snapping off the fuel pump. i had it repaired in june, 2016. there is a "silent recall" on this part, but not for michigan cars (why not michigan cars.. this is a very dangerous problem .. the stalling issue and the fire issue). although this "silent recall" or the "special warranty" gm issued to cover this part does not expire, the time to get reimbursed expired in 2014, which makes no sense. my car didn't break until 2016, how was i supposed to file a claim 2 years prior to it breaking?
There have been many recalls on my model and year of car (2006 chevy cobalt). the most current issue i am having is a gas leak near the tank (rear passenger side). for some reason, the dealership is telling me that my particular car, based on where it is registered is not covered in the recall. i live in kansas, i bought the car in oklahoma. oklahoma-registered vehicles are covered, kansas-registered vehicles are not currently. this needs to change and quick before my car explodes.
I was driving and smelled gasoline. i parked and found it dripping from under the car. took it to a firestone auto repair and they showed me that the fuel lines were rusted through. they told me that this was happening to a lot of gm cars and trucks. a web search confirmed this to be true. i believe that fuel lines should not rust and leak gas on a car with only 96,000 miles on it. the cost for this repair is $992. i believe this is a hazardous and life threatening problem and general motors should pay to have it repaired by a national recall. thank you. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. while driving 50 mph, a strong odor of fuel entered the vehicle. the contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road and noticed fuel leaking from the bottom of the fuel tank. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
Fuel line leak
