Takata recall the problems i'm having with my car is that the locks keep unlocking and locking and won't let my car startup. it locks me out and when i put the key in the switch it won't crank and the only way that i'm able to get the key out of the switch is if i jump it off. i was at home when it happened parked.
Vehicle wouldn't start. like the battery was dead, wouldn't even try to turn over. go to turn the key off and pop my trunk where the battery is located and i can not get my key to turn all the way back to the off position, as a result i cannot remove my key. the speedometer read 30mph even though the vehicle never started and wasn't moving. non of the electronics were working so i was unable to pop my trunk. this has happened several times before and eventually the vehicle will start and when it does the battery light stays on and the dash reads; engine performance low. the transmission will surge as i am driving and i cannot go faster than 30mph. i have even had the car shut off completly while i was driving down the road. after anywhere between a few hours to a few weeks the vehicle will stop acting up and drive normal for a while. agian the normal lasts anywhere between a few hours to a few months as well. the power stering also flashes on the dash and sometimes cuts compleatly out.

I have an 05 chevrolet cobalt i bought off an individual august 2016 at first the car drove perfectly no major problems that couldnt be fixed. as of may 2017 while driving 30 mph or 60 mph my guages jump for example will be driving 55 mph on a city street and the guage will jump down to 20 mph. as i am turning my steering locks have almost crashed multiple times (needs recall fixed) but to be clear it does not jump at all while stationary. having to feel unsafe in any vehicle should be unacceptable by any means. this is my first gm car and having worked for gm im highly disappointed
4/14/17 vehicle svc-ignition recall 14113 lock cylinder & key 13454 ignition switch the vehicle was performing well prior to the recall service but now it appeared that the ignition was "stiff' to operate following the repair & the key seemed to periodically hang up when inserted. there was a random hesitation when making a u turn-as if the car briefly stalled out- no power, upon turning the wheel. eve of 4/21/17, after being driven & parked on a city street for about an hr, the vehicle would not start although there was full battery power. the vehicle was secured & left to sit. morn of 4/22/17 svc ctr was notified. vehicle still wouldn't start, but, upon insertion of the key & initial crank, the car began experiencing sudden random clicks of the ignition switch, door locks engaging, dashboard panel flashing. upon removing the key & reinserting it, the key appeared to have deprogrammed & the anti theft light was activated. the key was removed & the car secured. later, attempt to engage the ignition using the second new key & was unsuccessful-the key would not turn to off position but locked in acc mode position. later, the vehicle was towed per dealer auth. the tow truck operator noted that the car battery appeared to have drained by their arrival, the key would not disengage from the ignition & the car would not come out of park. 4/24/17 service found codes p0604 & p0606 control module ram failure + internal controller failure- dealer courtesy performed reprogramming, theft relearn & crank variation learn. the vehicle appeared to be operating normal after reprogramming & was set for customer pickup. the dealer svc ctr recommends replacement of the ecm if it reoccurs. there appears to be other vehicle owners that have experienced this ecm failure after having recall svc. contacted chevy cust assist ctr & initiated a case record. case pending.
Vehicle losing power, speedometer flat, tachometer working, while in motion and stationary; displaying: power steering = car has steering wheel play; car does not drive over 30 mph and revving high. the car regains power and loses power and regains intermittently. chevy cobalt 2005
About once a month "power steering" appears on display, sometime power assist is gone, most times it is still there but transmission shifts very hard and stalls engine when stopped for red light. if power steering comes on right away after starting vehicle, shut off, smack pass side of center console, then start, usually off then, but if vehicle is hot from sitting in sun, or very cold in winter, you have to drive it and either heat it up or cool it off before pulling over parking and shut off for 15 minutes, then hit it then start it. told dealer of this before p/s recall work was done they said it was not related, when i went to pick it up they ask if we were having trouble with the power steering and transmission, i said yes, they said oh have a nice day.
Our 2005 chevrolet cobalt has had ongoing intermittent electrical problems that cause the vehicle to slam into gears going when accelerating and slowing down. this is accompanied by the vehicle shaking. while this is going on, the speedometer fluctuates and we get a power steering warning. my son has lost the power steering assist occasionally and one time it almost caused and accident. if we shut the vehicle off, the problem seems to go away but only temporarily.

While driving in town shortly after turning onto a 45 mph road my vehicle, automatic, started hesitating while shifting into the next gear. it would shift but not like normal. brought it into a repair shop to have a diagnostic ran to be informed it is a failure to communicate with tcm. code u0101 and also u2100. after doing research there has been multiple complaints about this. so first things first replaced the tcm with a new one at the dealership. after replacement the vehicle is still not shifting correctly.

The power steering on my vehicle cuts off and the speedometer remains rested at 0 when driving. the doors also lock and unlock on their own while driving. the car does not automatically shift while driving making it hard to accelerate and the vehicle will also decelerate on its own while driving it is very dangerous and very scary to drive with these problems. the dealership claims that the problem with steering has already been fixed but i am still having these problems.
Engine shut down while driving. twice while stopped and 4 times while city driving in the process of making a turn. car shuts down with key in the on position. i have to put the car in park, turn the key into the off position. i can then turn the key and the car turns back on. i was almost rear- ended. this is the same thing that happened when my car was part of the safety recall 13454. i called general motors at 1 800 222 1020. i told the guy that the same thing was happening that happened when they had the recall for the ignition switch. he told me they were having other customer complaints about the same thing happening. i asked him how come they weren't having a recall on the recall? it is very scary driving this car. i was told that nothing would be covered and i would have to take it to the local chevy dealer (which is 30 miles away)
The lights all over the car intermittently work and not work, the battery drains and have replace the battery 4 times.this has been going on since i got the car withe the lights. the steering thing just started, when you make a turn the steering binds up as if the power steering is going out. also acts as if the car is going to stall. this only happens when you are in drive position. in park it doesn't do this. the power steering fluid levels are perfect. also, when this issue starts, the speedometer needle bounces up to 40 mph even though you are at a stop. the radio will suddenly turn full blast sound for about 2 seconds and turn back down. scares me half to death. there is a major electrical problem in this car for lights to work one time and then next time not. i go through light bulbs like crazy, every couple of months i am changing a different bulb. and the steering issue is unsafe, the car could stall while trying to turn across traffic. still after having all recalls completed, the car is still not safe.

When i unlock the driver door with the fob, the door would not open. i was driving one day and the relay electrical wiring started burning. when i took it back to the car dealer they told me there was nothing wrong. myself and four other people smelled the burning. i gave the car back and nothing was done to satisfy the situation. i was told by an auto zone mechanic to park the car before it catches on fire.
I've paid over $400 dollars into this car for batteries in the last 18 months because of the manufacturer default. when i got the car, the ignition switch was a problem the first night, and we had to take it back to the dealership the next day, where all they did was spray some wd-40 in the hole. that was before the recall was made news. on sept, 11, 2015 i was leaving a store, and tried turning on the car and it didn't start. i've had battery problems before (with this vehicle too) and just had the battery replaced 18 m ago, but there was no check battery warning light earlier or anything wrong with the vehicle performance. at the time, i didn't think it was the battery because the radio, a/c, etc had no problem turning on but the engine itself wouldn't start. and usually batteries have no problem in summer weather. after a tow getting to the auto shop, they hooked up a charger to the battery, and started it up, and said i needed a new battery! i said no, that's not possible, i got a new battery just 18 months ago. its probably the ignition recall that is the overall problem because until this year (when the dealership finally got me in) the ignition was slipping out of the off position randomly over-night. or it might be the fact that the manufacturer put the battery in the trunk where there's no air circulation! what was chevy thinking. in a responsible government, i should be entitled compensation for this, i mean $400 for the same part in a 18 month span because they put a dangerous part in their cars knowingly! ps. i'm looking into chevy issuing me compensation, because i know the auto repariman won't reimburse me on the labor costs, but they say the last day to file a grievance was in jan '15 so if you would like to contact me on ways over/through it i'
While driving vehicle power steering light comes on, steering wheel locks up, gear shift starts clicking, stalling out during driving at speed. i have ran off road several times and have to use both hands to turn a curve because of steering locked.

My car turns off in the middle of driving. three times i have been on 45 mph roads, and have 2 small kids. this isn't the only major issue my car. but first the digital display reads engine disabled or engine losing power then engine disabled and loses all function. there was a recall over a year ago for this model shutting off while driving supposedly due to weight on the key ring. after the dealer fixed it the issue stopped until 3 mnths ago. i can only go a block before the engine disables now, it progressively happened sooner and sooner. a friend who is old buddies with a diagnostics specialist introduced me and he was able to tell me exactly what was going on to fine details. i called the dealership to see about any recalls and relayed the info he'd given me and they down played it like they guy didn't know what he was talking about. the dealer thinks its a throttle or engine problem. the guy i know said the computer chip in the key likely got messed up possibly from having my cell phone next to it a lot, that the part in the ignition that reads the signal from the key is getting mixed info and signals the engine to shut down . he also said that once it happens, a loop is created to where every time i turn they key it starts the cycle over where everything is okay in the beginning but the info gets misread over n over which is why he said i should get a new key- and (i think this is what he said) to replace to whole ignition column so all parts involved would be new. he also gets his parts wholesale and is not trying to rip me off. next problem car burns oil! the last two times i had oil checked, nothing on the dipstick, i get it done every 3000miles. walmart made me sign a paper stating there was no oil on dipstick. gas line corroded, smell of gas throughout car, has whole piece replaced. these are serious why is chevrolet doing nothing bad business

Engine would not turn over no electrical connection this happened several times during ownership. i have lost my job depending on this vehicle. i would try to start it one morning and some times it would and others if wouldn't. when i heard about the recalls on the cars my happens to be a 2005 chevy cobalt when i looked it up there were 6 recalls on this one car. i understand things happen and not done to purposely hurt anyone but there was many people hurt. i'm just scared after getting my car back from getting it repaired some other things going to happen and i'm a young mother with 3 small kids and i don't want to put them at danger at all. i know not everything is made perfect because we are only human but i want to know that my kids are safe ridding with me in this car. i've thought about getting a new one but my car has been so good to me tell now and i no longer have a job to get another car. i don't have a vehicle, a job, or a way to pay bills this might of not hurt me physically but emotionally and financially it has. i hope there is something you can do to make things right i appreciate ur time and thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I was driving home for work last week when the t/c light came on, i pulled over and turned off the car, waited for a couple of minutes and then started finish driving home. on saturday, april 11, i had went to the store, on my way back from the store the t/c light came on and so did the brake light and another light then the car just shut down by itself. i waited for another few minutes and started the car up and went home. i called a chevy dealership and told them what had happened, they said as long as the light comes on, i am still ok to drive the car. i left the car alone on sunday, so monday morning april 13, 2015, i left the house early to head into work. not even 5 miles from my house it happened again and the car shut itself down. i had to call a tow truck to come and pick me up and take myself and my car to a mechanic. i am still waiting to see what is the problem and how much it is going to cost me this time. last year, i had a problem where my check engine light came on and the car shut down only to find that the piston throttle was causing the check engine light to come on and shut down. Throughout the course of my trip home the car dash kept flashing a power steering error message and the lights on the dashboard kept getting dim. the steering wheel was getting really tight, the car almost stalled out several times, and the dials fluctuated. the car also began to shake violently and i became afraid that i would not make it home. i have contacted the local chevrolet dealership about this problem on multiple occasions and they refuse to even look at the car without charging me. the car has already been recalled twice and although i have had both recall repairs done i am still having problems. every time i drive this car i fear for the lives of my family. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cobalt. after having the vehicle serviced under nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v171000 (electrical system) and 10v073000 (steering), the power steering failed and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 24,000.
The first time it happened, was at interstate speeds.(60 to 70mph) the second, was in city stop and go traffic. the third was backing out of my driveway after a 5 minute idle. the fourth was when my last mechanic was test driving it because he thought he'd fixed it. dash lights blink on and off, all warning lights come on, engine cooling fans stop operating, transmission hunts for what gear it should be in; resulting in the transmission self destructing. engine management, other than the cooling fans, seems to be unaffected. i've replaced 4 tcm's so far; as all mechanics say that is the problem. it works for a few days or a week, then the same problem manifest. this seems to be a problem with quite a few gm vehicles.

Cobalt lost all power. while reaching for keys to try and restart cobalt, keys were not in ignition switch and must have fallen out. with no power to steering i kept my left hand on steering wheel and reached to the floor with right hand to try and find keys. at this point in the blink of an eye the car steering was un responsive and cobalt veered off the road to the right down through a half pipe shaped drainage ditch and did a roller coaster down then up in the air and then slammed back down to ground coming to a stop. in this roller coaster event i was tossed into the inside roof of the cobalt then with seat belt on pulled/slammed back down into seat on my lower spine then the seat broke loose from its position and slid forward slamming my left knee into the lower dashboard and broke the door where the trunk release is located. police were called, report taken i was dispatched to hospital via ambulance. *tr
Had no issues all day until all of sudden we were leaving a parking lot. i'm at the stop sign when i went to press the gas to go, i hear a chime - no indication lights come on- car acts like it's going to stall (it doesn't), steering is very hard and a clicking noise is coming from the gear shift area. do not feel safe driving it all, although it's movable but very rough/bogging out. recently had the ignition recall recently, had a few issues pop up since then but nothing as serious as this. had to get it towed to my mechanic, he replaced a few sensors, but clicking noise still remains and is undriveable. *tr

I brought my 2005 chevrolet cobalt to multi chevrolet in union to have the ignition switch recall completed. they called me and asked "was your check engine light on"? i assured them if my check engine light was on i would have taken the car immediately to my local mechanic. every since then i have occasionally had the power steering & traction control lights appear on the dashboard. i took the car for an oil change and the power steering light stopped. i have now had a new battery installed and 4 new tires and yesterday january 4, 2015 the car rings and the traction control light comes on. i am terrified to drive this car. i think general motors sold these cars knowing full well they were lemons and dangerous and think they should have to pay monetary damage to everyone they stuck with this death trap. *tr

I was driving around 55 mph in traffic. i heard a chime and the display on the dash said power steering disabled, the orange indicator for traction control disabled illuminated, the tachometer jumped around and the transmission shifted extremely hard into gear. i struggled to pull over to the shoulder and the car slammed into park. i shut the car off and back on. it still shifted hard so i let it stay off for five minute. after that the car was fine. as an experienced mechanic it felt like the car lost communication with one of the computers. no dtcs were stored. there are a lot of complaints about this online as well. *tr
i just had my recalled ignition switch changed with the new ignition switch. however, it is causing new problems. i am having problems shutting off my car. sometimes the ignition switch gets stuck and i can not move my key to turn off the car. it is scary when you can not move your key and turn off your car. i went back to the dealer and they changed the keys and adjusted the ignition switch but it is still causing problems. when it gets stuck i have to constantly jiggle the key and sometimes it takes over 20 minutes to get it unstuck and to turn off my car. i am very disappointed. *tr
