Problems with 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

light comes on, on dash consumer has taken vehicle to the dealer, and they told him that it was nothing wrong with vehicle.when he was on vacation,radiator hose busted. when he returned home , he went to the dealer, and was reimbursed some of his money back by the dealer. also, was told by dealer when dash light indicator that something was wrong with battery. *ak

Battery leaked acid from positive post down into battery box which drained into engine compartment and on to the electrical harness junction which is routed under the battery box. there is no drain tube to drain any acid overflow down under the car. the acid burned through the junction and shorted out the main harness to all the lighting on the front of the car. if this had been at night i would have lost my headlights and turn signals. there is minor damage to torque converter housing and motor mount. i'm waiting now to hear from the dealer as to when the car will be returned to me after the repairs are done, and see if chevrolet will take care of the repairs. it is my belief they need to install a drain tube in the battery box and reroute this harness away from this area. i fear as to what would happen if this had been at night and i was driving down the road at highway speeds. this battery was the one that came with the car. *****dims 11 ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis*****769324. *ak *jb

Daytime running lights are inoperative. acid from battery post leaking out and dripping onto harness connector, melting plastic, and plastic corroding the connector, which can cause an under hood fire.*ak

a loud noise was coming from under right side of the vehicle. contacted dealer, problem due to strut mount and isolator going out.*ak

Vehicle was purchased used with a cracked dashboard. dashboard was replaced, but wires were not connected properly, or pinch which results in no inside dash lights. consumer was concerned that vehicle may be put in wrong gear. please provide any further information.*ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet cavalier. the contact stated that the fuse that controls the instrument control panel has consistently failed. each month he is required to replace the fuse. he also cleans the fuses regularly. the dealer will be notified to diagnose the failure. the failure has occurred since the vehicle was purchased in 2001. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 500.

When turning steering wheel sharply there was a popping sound at all times. dealer replaced power steering shaft.*ak consumer states engine light comes on while driving, squealing noise from passengers side of engine especially on cold starts, and engine is slow to crank up-intermittent, battery was replaced, also vehicle would not start, dealer found fuel pump was inoperative and replaced fuel pump. *yd

First failure was at 24,197 miles. the car began to lose power and would stall during driving. dealer had the car for 21 days, and replaced the switch clusters, ignition switch, reprogrammed body control module, replaced pcm and found burnt 3-4 clutch. at 40,613 miles the engine lost power and stalled again (while on the freeway). this time the engine warning light did not activate, and we had no idea there was another engine problem. the dealer again replaced defective coil and iginition wires. the car is once again beginnig to idle differently, which is a precursor to it stalling. at each failure, we also smelled a burning odor just before the vehicle stalling.*ak

Clutch was not engaging properly, was noisy when changing gears, and would jerk once in gear, dealer found master cylinder leaking and replaced it. *slc

My car begun cutting off when i was driving on or about this date. i took it to the chevy dealer on 11/27/02 and they changed the fuel line. on 12/02/02 it was still cutting of so i took it back. this time they changed the wires, plugs, and 02 sensers. to make a long story short it is now 01/25/03 and my car is still cutting off. i have been to this dealership (sir walter chevrolet - raleigh nc) seventeen times. they have changed several major parts.( crank shaft sensor, 2 catylic converters, modules, and other parts. i do not understand why it is necessary to go to the a gmc mechanic 17 times for the same problem. i am at my wits end, the next place i am going is to the newspaper and a lawyer.

The vehicle only had 2917 miles on it when the steering rack had to be replaced. *nm at 6237 miles the dealer had to replace a strut mount and a bearing plate. the engine light illuminated and the o2 sensor and starter was replaced. the intermediate shaft was replaced twice and the headlamp was replaced. *jb

Vehicle is not able to start anytime of the day. contacted dealer ,and dealer is not willing to do anything. *ak when the vehicle stall first time the dealer replaced ignition control module. when it stall again, the fuel pump was replaced. however, the vehicle continued stalling. *yh
