Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2006 Cadillac STS

I understand that 2006 cadillac cts has a recall for airbag problems. cadillac doesn't deny that the same system was used in the sts. i've seen several complaints about the same problem. i just wonder why the sts was not recalled. i knew there was no warranty, and that's why i contacted cadillac. knowing this they sent me for a diagnostic, which was a waste of time and money. the end result was that they said it's not under warranty. i would just like you to investigate to see if there should be a recall. this is a safety issue that cadillac should address. *js

Takata recall

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 cadillac sts. the contact stated that the passenger side air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Started receiving a constant, "service air bag" warning message after 125,000 miles. the dealer told me the passenger presence module needed replaced. it will cost $1,000 for the part, labor, and programming. now i read on this forum that the same issue was found on the cts model and it was recalled by the manufacturer, but not the sts. it's difficult to justify putting that much money in an older vehicle.

Service airbag light stays on.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 cadillac sts. when the vehicle was started, the air bag warning indicator illuminated and remained lit. the dealer was contacted (orr cadillac, shreveport, la 71105, 318-798-7250) and stated that there was no recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

Takata recall: service airbag warning appeared on the instrument panel. auto is currently in the shop for analysis. the 2006 cts has the same airbag system. and it has been recalled. the sts has not. why?

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 cadillac sts. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated and remained lit. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that they would communicate with them once a solution was determined. the contact never heard back from the manufacturer. the failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

Involved in head-on collision on july 31, 2016 when a vehicle pulled out in front of me on a clear, dry, day on pavement i was traveling about 30 mph and tried to swerve to miss the other vehicle, but my vehicle made contact on the left front quarter panel of my car hitting the other vehicle at the drivers side door. my air bag did not go off nor did the seat belt stop me from hitting the steering wheel. after the accident, the warning panel read "service air bag". the other driver was ticketed for failure to yield.

Went to start up my 2006 sts-v today. after a few blocks of driving my airbag light came on. another few seconds passed and across the message board it said service airbag system.

We own a 2006 cadillac, sts, v8. at approximately 96k miles the airbag sensor warning illuminated. at first it was intermittent. then became constant. dealership sais it will be $900-$1100 to repair. the warning was first noticed upon startup in the garage. same problem existed in the cts and was recalled according to the tech at the dealership. cadillac should fix this problem with as many other reports that have been documented. ourselves along with many other cadillac sts owners are driving vehicles without airbags. whats the point?

While starting my car, a light came on my car indicating "service air bag". i took my car to the dealership and they indicated that the passenger seat module for the air bag needed replacement in order to correct the service air bag issue. the total cost of repair including parts, labor and reprogramming was $1,000 to $1,200. i do not have $1,000 to fix this problem, so i am forced to drive a car without airbags. the 2005 - 2007 cts has the same issue and gm issued a recall. why not the sts???

Passenger seat occupant sensor stops working, disabling the passenger airbag. 2006 cadillac cts were recalled but the cadillac sts uses the same system but was not recalled. airbag light came up while driving under normal conditions and its giving the error code associated with the occupant sensor mat system

Passenger side airbag sensor is not working . refilled gas tank when restarted car service airbag light came on .seems to me something gm should fix.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 cadillac sts. while driving various speeds, the service air bag warning message displayed. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the front passenger side presence module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 89,000. updated 08/30/16*lj *tr

Vehicle air bag light went on took it to repair facility they told me the passenger air bag sensor in the seat needed repair, cost $900.00. why is the cts a recall but the sts is not covered by recall?

Light come on warning

I'm currently transporting elder clients without any airbags in my vehicle for the past six weeks. there was a recall on the 2006 cts, but not the sts for the same issue. there are numerous complaints online about the same issue on the 2006 sts. my dealer refuses to honor my request to repair the passenger seat sensor (which controls the airbags) under recall. thank-you!

The "service air bag" display appeared on control panel during a return trip from florida to massachusetts. i searched on-line and discovered that cadillac had a recurring problem with this issue, and had recalled some cts models for same. however, the sts model has not been recalled. i brought the car in for service this week. the passenger seat module for the air bag needed replacement in order to correct the service air bag issue. the total cost of repair including parts, labor and reprogramming was $844.95.

I started up the car last night, and "service airbag" came up on my driver information center. it has not gone away sense. with all these air bag recalls, is that one that would be included? *tr

I was traveling through the countryside on my way home from work. my car suddenly stalled, i lost control of the vehicle and slammed into an on coming car in the other lane. this caused permanent traumatic brain injury as our airbags never deployed causing us to slam our heads off windshield and side door window. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 cadillac sts. the contact stated that the front passenger side air bag sensor indicator illuminated, which indicated that the air bag system was faulty. an independent dealer stated that the failure was due to a faulty sensor. no additional information was available. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 146,000.

2006 cadillac sts. consumer writes in regards to safety lights for airbags were illuminated after recent vehicle repairs. *smd the consumer stated the air bag light was not on, prior to dropping the vehicle off at the collision shop. *jb

Air bag light came on in vehicle when no one was sitting in vehicle and has been on ever since. i took the vehicle to dealership paid to have problem diagnosed was told. passenger seat presence system failure. quoted price for $900 to repair. i researched online saw recall for cts from 2005-2007 however not fro the sts. i contacted gm. was called back in 48hrs to be told they do not help with fixing anything that is not under recall. can you please recall the sts as well. i see so many others reporting the same thing. this is ridiculous. its the same airbag system as in the cts. this is an important problem. i purchased this vehicle because of the safety features. nothing in the manual says this would need to be serviced or replaced. *tr

I had the air bag harness replaced on this vehicle 2.5 years ago on this vehicle. the warning light is illuminated and i'm being told it needs to be replaced again. i purchased the vehicle in 2008. if the first airbag lasted for 5 years from year made 2006 (which is not very long). the one that was replaced in december 2011 should have lasted longer than 2.5 years. i am very concerned that these are defective parts and i don't want to be killed or maimed by the air bag and i don't want to pay for another one in such a short period. i have had all the tire monitors replaced also and the tire pressure readings are always off. when i take the car in to be checked after paying a fee of course. they say there's nothing wrong with them and they just put air in the tires. thanking you in advance for your help in this matter. *tr

The "service airbag" light came on and the message on the rearview mirror is no longer detecting a passenger when a passenger is sitting in the seat. the passenger detector sensor has failed in the passenger seat. the same model year for the cadillac cts had a recall for the same problem. the two vehicles are substantially similar and probably use the exact same part, yet the the sts model was not included in the recall. a simple internet search shows hundreds of complaints on forums with this issue in the sts model as well as the cts model. the result would be that the airbag would not deploy in the event of a crash. *tr

Traveling 81 north in northeast pennsylvania, rounding turn car stalled. i lost complete control of the vehicle which caused me to slam into a guard rail and the car went down an embankment and into a boulder. air bags never deployed. passenger and i were severely injured and had to be pulled out of the vehicle. although we were both buckled in, the seatbelts flew off upon impact. this car should be recalled, it is very dangerous and should not be on the road (its a death trap). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 cadillac sts. the contact stated that the air bag off light illuminated and failed to illuminate when the seat was occupied. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 68,000.

Tl* the contact owns 2006 cadillac sts. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning causing another vehicle to crash into the contact's vehicle. the vehicle rolled over several times ejecting both the contact and front passenger from the vehicle. the driver and front passenger sustained neck, back and brain injuries that required medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 cadillac sts. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. as a result, the contact lost control of the vehicle causing it to veered off road and crashed into an embankment. the air bags failed to deploy. in addition, the contact stated that the seat belt lock disengaged. the contact and the front passenger sustained permanent brain injuries that required medical attention. a police report was filed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.

Air bag light constantly stays on, along with the check engine light. seat belt chime constantly rings with the seat belt connected. gas low notification light does not come on until on empty. no heated seats. i think the ecm needs to be reset.sun roof goes up but not slides open. passenger side door won't open.automatic car starter doesn't work. 2 years ago, my son in law, started this car in below zero temp and it started on fire. he put it out and restarted it and it was ok. something makes noise occasionally for no apparent reason.

The front passenger air bag warning light came on just as i was starting the car for the day. we took the car to the local dealership and they are well aware this is a on going issue for the 2006 sts, but it is not part of the recall. i would like to know if the same parts were used in the sts that were included in the recall ? the dealership wants almost a $1,000 to fix it and i was told none of my air bags will deploy until i get this fixed . i believe air bags as a safety feature should be covered for the life of the vehicle for issues like this. very disappointed with cadillac not including the sts in the recall especially after reading all the other owners with the same exact problem.

The passenger side air bag sensor stopped working. a warning light on the dash came on. nothing happened to make it stop working, it is just a faulty part. the cadillac dealer gave me a estimate stating that the "module" needs to be replaced. however, they did not offer to do so under warranty. i think this should be a recalled item since i see a long list of this same complaint on this same model and some other cadillac models. *tr

From an internet search i have found that a common problem on these models (also 2005, 2007 & 2008) is with the passenger side airbag sensors either not detecting passengers or, as in the case of my vehicle, not functioning at all either intermittently or on a continuum. a dealer wants between $900 and $1000 to fix them and have reported to me that they "see them all the time". the 2009 cts model was recalled for the very same problems. i can't afford to get it fixed. hopefully you guys can get some action as gm was no help at all. thank you. At approximately 72,000 miles my cadillac's passenger seat light began to act up and would go on and off when someone would sit in the front passenger seat. i am single and rarely ever have a passenger in the front seat. approximately two times per month someone rides in this seat. the last time someone sat in the front passenger seat, i traveled 10 miles round trip on 1/19/2012, the "service air bag" and air bag red light indicator came on the dash and since then will not go off. i take extraordinary care of my vehicle. i took it to a dealer only to be told that the entire passenger presence system (pps) needs to be replaced and that it was going to cost me $629.00. i understand that the same problem occurred in the cadillac cts model of the same year. my question and complaint are: did the modules come from the same place and/or are they the same module and passenger presence system. why wouldn't my cadillac sts be included in that recall when i see that this has happened to so many other cadillac sts models of the same year. *tr

Service passenger side airbag warning message displayed. a warning light will display saying the passengers airbag is off. problem comes and goes. this seems to be the same error that caused the cadillac cts recall. why has this not included the sts? type this problem into google and there are lots of complaints including the dts. there is a tsb: "nhtsa number: 10036512. cadillac: front passenger air bag status indicator displays off or switches from on to off with passenger in seat (replace passenger presence system (pps) module). condition may be caused by passenger presence system (pps) in right front." will there have to be an accident for the recall to be expanded? *tr

Service passenger air bag system. *tr

A dec '10 press release (http://media.gm.com) announced a recall of 2005 - 2007 cadillac cts' for a specific air bag issue in the front passenger compartment. paragraph 5 of the release reads in part "owners of certain other 2005-2007 that have significantly lower incident rates will be provided free repairs for the issue for up to 10 years or 120,000 miles." i drive a 2006 sts (vs cts) and have not received an 'owners letter.' the car, however displays the exact characteristics of the air bag failure described in the release. the indications occurred no more than two weeks prior to the 12/10 publication. numerous contacts with cadillac customer service have resulted in refusals to authorize repairs to my car. one csr offered to have the repairs paid for should i pick up the cost of the diagnostics and the error be exactly what the recall specifies. a complaint filed in april with the wi dept of ag, trade and consumer affairs resulted in a call today (5/16) from a rep of gm's business resource center advising that they will again refuse my request because "...the sts model was not included in the recall." there was no reply when asked whether the sts had been included in testing with your organization prior to the recall. she reiterated that cadillac may pay for repairs after diagnosis. i have every reason to believe that the passenger air bag in my car would fail if needed. i also believe that the two models share a significant-enough level of engineering, parts and assembly that cadillac should take responsibility. considering (1) the issue isn't a potential problem but actually exists in my car, and (2) their reference of "...certain other 2005-2007 models" indicates their/your suspicion that the issue crosses over to other models, i find their position that i should pay for the diagnostics unacceptable. my request is that cadillac diagnose and fix my air bag issue at their expense. i intend to pursue the issue through the state and other means. updated 05/24/11 *tr

The air bag sensor under the seat, meant to indicate the presence of a front-seat passenger has failed, as denoted by a constant service air bag warning light. a dec, '10 press release announced a recall of '05-'07 cts' for this exact issue. paragraph 5 of the release reads in part "owners of certain other 2005-2007 that have significantly lower incident rates will be provided free repairs for the issue for up to 10 years or 120,000 miles." numerous contacts with cadillac customer service throughout 2011 resulted in refusals to authorize repairs at their expense. a complaint files with the wi dept of ag, trade and consumer affairs resulted in a call from a rep of gm's business resource center advising that they would again refuse my request because "...the sts model was not included in the recall." she offered that after i pay for diagnostics (local estimate $260) 'we will be happy to look into cost assistance on the repair.' two months later when i called back i was told they closed the file and that i needed to start the complaint process over. *tr

Stopped the vehicle, placed into park position, shut off car and engaged emergency brake. removed seat belt, driver and passenger opened doors to exit. engine at that time went into a very high rpm making a horrible loud whining noise and auto accelerated in reverse with car in park and emergency brake on. tried to stop the vehicle but brake pedal went to floor. no control of the vehicle and rode the vehicle as it reversed on its own, onto street, through the intersection ,colliding with a parked car and coming to rest with the rear of the car against a building. speed unknown, no airbags deployed, small injuries. *tr
