Recently reported EXTERIOR LIGHTING problems on 2011 Cadillac SRX

My headlights randomly build up condensation which causes the headlights to go out unexpectedly. this causes a safety issue especially when driving in the dark. it's also illegal to drive without headlights. there was a class action lawsuit in california regarding this very issue.

Low beam headlights dimmed. high beam headlights failed completely. moisture build up in headlight housings apparently impacted electronic headlight controllers. auto dealership estimates approximately $2000.00 to repair.. replacement of both headlight bulbs produced no difference in light output. bulbs that were replaced appear to be fully functional. mechanic at firestone auto care facility states that 'headlight housing unit appears to have defective seals allowing moisture in and remaining inside the housing damaging controllers'.

Suddenly, the regular headlamps got dim'as if someone installed a dimmer switch and brought the light down to 30%. brights work fine. this was true whether the car was stationary or in motion. while trying to get this covered by cadillac and/or my extended warranty (both denied to cover the repair), i had to drive at night with my brights on. either way, with brights on, or with dim lights, this is a serious safety hazard. cadillac has known about this for many years, and in addition to not doing a recall or honoring case-by-case repairs, they continued to put the same faulty headllamp assemblies in these vehicles, up to 2015.

My cadillac 2011 headlights when dim. first i changed the light bulbs thinking that that would solve the problem but it did not. i then took my car into the dealer to check to see why the light bulbs did not fix the problem. they in turn told me that i would have to replace the entire headlight in order fix the dim lights. i was also told that the lights going dim on the cadillac srx is a flaw in the system.this is an unsafe condition whereas you will need to drive with your high beams until the light unit is replaced as you can barely see in front of you.

I noticed that only my drivers side headlight was not working. after investigating i learned that there has been 2 class action lawsuits filed and won against the manufacturer in florida and california. this is due to condensation causing the low beam light to fail. i took the headlights out and put the bulb from the drivers side into the passenger side and it works. this is consistent with the complaints from the lawsuits. there are way too many complaints about this causing headlights to fail in rainy conditions. that is the worst time for headlights to fail. there are enough complaints that a recall should be done.

My 2011 cadillac srx has had very poor headlights since i purchased it. i have replaced the bulbs with the brightest halogen bulbs available with minable improvement. i tried led lights, they were terrible. what recourse do we have on this issue. i see on the internet that this is a ongoing complaint with this model of car. please help!

I am writing regarding my service airbag light. the light can on about 2 weeks ago. i had it check out by autozone and o'rellies auto storm. i was informed the it was the passenger seat pressure sensor and it have a recall on it. so when i call the cadillac place they tell me that i have no recalls at this time. so how do two places tell me i have a recall but cadillac says i don't. i really need this situation cleared . i drives my elderly parents around and i needs my car to be safe for me as well as for my parents. please help. i'm having to many issues with cadillac. my headlight assembly for my car caused by condense in my passenger side headlight assembly. that's been out for about a year. so yes i'm having a bad time with my car. don't get me wrong i love my car this is why i'm trying to find help as well as answer regarding my vehicle. if you can contact me at [xxx]. i would really really appreciate it. thank you so much have a blessed day information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Headlight failure - replaced one side for 1400.00 now have to replace other side contacted cadilac and was told it was not covered. i own a 2010 srx bought in florida and it is covered. this is a safety issue that gm should be accountable before innocent lives ars lost due to failure of headlamps

Headlights on 2011 cadillac srx are constantly filling up with condensation. this causes uneven headlights and reduces visibility put driver and passenger at risk of undue injury including death.

The low beams on my suv went completely out as i was driving early one morning out of my neighborhood! i noticed that it was unusually dark and thought that a street light was out, but i soon discovered that it was my headlights that were not working. i am unable to drive my car at night or before the sun comes up because i have no lights. i can only use the high beams. i need to be able to drive my car when it's dark. this is a serious problem and the gm should do a recall to repair this defect at cost to the consumer because they are totally aware of this issue and have been for years. there is an issue with the sealant and it's allowing moisture to get inside of the headlights causing the lights to go out.

Drivers side headlight contains moisture which shorts out the ballast and ignitor and blows the hid headlight. there is not a proper seal on headlight and cadillac knows this.they have been recalled in florida, california! in wisconsin the same issue with moisture. i have replaced both sides 7 times. the car dealer refused to fix. the cadillac dealer also will not acknowledge the problem either. at any moment they just stop working when driving on highway at night. this can cause an accident because oncoming traffic can't see you. a safety issue. let alone rain, fog and snow driving are issues if they just can go out because they are faulty.

Takata recall the high and low beam headlights are so dim at night driving. it's very dangerous because you can hardly to half car length in from of you

Headlights will turn off sporadically while driving. if manually turning lights off then back on, headlight will work again.

I noticed all of a sudden i could not see the road, switched to the high beam that's fine now back to low beam it's like i turned off the lights,my lights are on but not bright at all, driving with high beam much as possible hwy & city.

Bought the 2011 srx in 2018. immediately had to have the entire passenger side headlight assembly replaced because of moisture intrusion. now 6 months later the same problem has appeared in the drivers side headlight. visibility at night is badly compromised. repair is very costly.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 cadillac srx. the contact stated that the headlights retained rain water and failed to illuminate while driving at night. the vehicle was taken to dutton cadillac of riverside (located at 8201 auto dr, #101, riverside, ca 92504), (951) 842-2566), but was not diagnosed or repaired due to the fees. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. the approximate failure mileage was 82,000.

Hid headlights keep filling with condensation and burning out. dealer wants over $1800 to fix...for headlights!

Lights dim almost cause me to crash. now one not working seems like a lot of issues with this vehicle. is it to get the nearly $500 repair cost? fix the problem thousands complaining, it's an obvious flaw. not fair . this is very dangerous will this only be fixed after a tragedy?

When driving at night with lights on dim you can barely see anything. in order to be able to see anything lights must be on bright, if meeting another driver this makes for a possible hostile interaction as the approaching driver is blinded by the brightness of lights. i took my car to shop only to be informed it is a defect with this model vehicle starting with 2010 models. i was told the price starts at around $1000.00 for a replacement clip with the probability that lights will do same thing😯. lights are not blown but instead it is a defect of manufacturer. this needs to be addressed as soon as possible. night driving is a must for some of us and the feeling of not being able to see very well with lights on dim or making other drivers mad and possibly resulting in an act of road rage makes us feel very unsafe. i have been a cadillac driver all my life and feel this should be addressed as soon as possible . we should not be held responsible for trying to fix something that in all honesty is not our fault and will only result in spending money that is only going toward a temporary fix still. please make this right.

My headlight assembly holds condensation and my lights are dim. occurred driving at night.

Moister completely filled passenger headlight assembly so it failed state inspection.

The headlight on this car will not work properly. have had bulbs replaced twice. dealership state seals are bad and need replaced. charging over 2000.00 for this. there is water inside both headlights. the bright lights will work, but not the regular lights. what recourse do we have?

Headlight assembly on driver side is faulty, replacements from gm are not guaranteed. after replacing numerous bulbs at owner expense, bulb will dim, or burn out leaving driver in a dangerous situation at night.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 cadillac srx. the contact stated that the headlights were extremely dim, which made it difficult for the contact to see the road at night. the vehicle was taken to sheehan cadillac (5101 n federal hwy, pompano beach, fl 33064) where it was diagnosed that the headlight assembly needed to be replaced and the vehicle was no longer included under warranty. the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 67,058.

Headlights very dim, not safe at night, scared to drive.

The headlights are very dim causing dangerous driving conditions

Both headlights have moisture and right headlight failed while driving. gm is well aware of this defect. the light failing while driving is a safety issue. gm will replace light for 1400.00 dollars, but the replacement has the same defect. they need to be recalled and fixed.

The low beam headlights are to dim for night driving. i don't feel safe driving at night, it's difficult to see the road. *tr

Moister completely filled both headlight assemblies and the left headlight doesn't aluminate now. this is a safty hazard.

Low beam headlights, illuminate at dangerously low levels. it makes it very hard to drive at night making very dangerous driving conditions. to see at night, i often have to drive with my high beams on, which is very dangerous for oncoming traffic.

Both headlights are dim even after putting new headlight bulbs in. one headlight has also accumulated moisture from the weather which has caused a yellow tint which also dims the lighting. i have to use my high beams to see turns which is dangerous for me and other drivers. the fact that i put new bulbs in and still can't see when i'm driving is a huge problem and i fear an accident could happen because of this fault.

Headlight assembly has moisture problem causing headlights to fail. driving at night with dim or failed headlights is extremely dangerous and will cause accidents and likely deaths. cannot see roadway, oncoming cars or pedestrians dealership indicated that replacement parts have the same problem.

Low beams suck

The headlight assembly seal is very weak and shorts out the entire headlight. its $1500+ to replace and it appears that gm is just going to ignore this problem. my car that i am still paying for has to stay parked because i cant afford to fix this headlight.

The headlights are very dim, after replacing both bulbs. the headlights are accumulating moisture and now have went completely out. this is a problem well known with this vehicle

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 cadillac srx. the contact stated that the headlights were extremely dim, which made it difficult to see the road while driving. as a result, the contact was unable to see a cinder block when attempting to make a turn at approximately 5 mph. the contact crashed into the cinder block. the air bags did not deploy. the vehicle was not towed and a police report was not filed. the contact sustained injuries to the back and head, but medical attention was not needed. faulkner cadillac trevose (located at 4447 e street rd, trevose, pa 19053, 866-722-7910) stated that the passenger side corner panel and front bumper of the vehicle needed to be replaced. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer regarding the headlights. the dealer diagnosed that the headlights were too dim due to condensation build-up and the headlights needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: 9/569386975. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000. the vin was unknown.

The headlights quit working when i was driving during the evening rush hour. lights worked when i turned the engine off through the lighting safety delay so i know the headlights are okay. there is so much moisture inside the headlight lens that i'm sure this is a moisture problem. this car is a piece of junk and gm should be ashamed for not providing owners relief especially when these cars cost so much. can't believe there isn't a recall on this problem. this is just one of many issues with this car.

Head lights are dim at night while driving you can't see very far ahead which makes it dangerous to drive at night. you have to use high beam to be able to see. we have replaced the lights and it's not any different. it's scary driving at night. something needs to be done. i'm surprised there aren't more accidents.

After a rainy day, i got into my 2011 cadillac srx to head home from work. i was driving down the road when both headlights went out. ii was lucky that i did not wreck or someone didn't hit me!!! i had this diagnosed at a certified cadillac dealership and the problem is faulty seals on the light assembly housing. it will cost 2959.90 to get this problem fixed, however in reading on line, the replacements aren't any better than what i have on it right now.

Takata recall- my drivers side headlight went out. i went to have it fixed and the mechanic replaced the baullist. after approximately 10 days the light went out again. upon returning to the mechanic and some investigation i found that this is an unresolved problem with this make and model of cadillacs. the manufacturer is automatically wanting the consumer to replace the entire headlight assembly at a cost of approximately 1,300 dollars. most people don't have that lying around! it becomes a safety issue because the expense is keeping owners from immediately replacing the defective part consequently causing people to drive without the proper lighting. please investigate this. i am happy to provide any necessary documentation as well as speak to anyone regarding this. this is an unfair practice from cadillac and will ultimately cost them business. it could even cost people their lives.

Am now constantly driving with the high beam lights on as i almost stuck a small child crossing the street while trick or treating. these headlights on low beam are a hazard!

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 cadillac srx. while driving 50 mph at night, the low beam headlamps failed to effectively illuminate the road. upon engaging the high beam headlamps, the contact noticed a significant difference in the quality of lighting without the high beam headlamps. in addition, the contact stated that the visibility of the driver was impaired when the low beam headlights were engaged. a dealer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 64,000.

Headlights fill up with condensation and prevent driving at night or weather with decreased visibility because they don't work.

My headlights are full of condensation. the lights are now so dim that i can only drive at night using the brights. so incredibly dangerous..estimate to repair is $1500.00

My headlights have developed a film making it difficult to see at night

I bought this car used about 2.5 years ago. since then i have had to replace the low beam bulb 7 times on both sides. even when i replace it within a week it is so dim i can hardly see to drive at night. the other morning i was heading to work and i had my high beams on but a car was flashing me so i thought ok i will be alright for just a second with that dim light but when i clicked it to low beam they were non existent and i almost ran off the road. this would have been bad as i was on a country road not heavily traveled. i did not know that they had completely burned out again. i love my caddy but this issue is dangerous and going to force me to get rid of it.

Moisture buidup in both of my headlights and made it hard to see at night and i ran off road .

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 cadillac srx. the contact stated that the low beam headlights were very dim and he could barely see the road when driving at night. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Extreme condensation and water intrusion of driver's side headlight assembly resulted in headlamp failure. minor condensation and water intrusion of passenger side headlight assembly, but functioning. no warning of headlight bulb failure on interior instrument panel. discovered while vehicle was in motion on interstate highway after dark. very poor road illumination with only one functioning headlight. needed to avoid nighttime travel until repaired. after reading complaints on nhtsa website and other cadillac forums, i purchased a oem headlight assembly at out of town cadillac dealership for the drivers side assembly, and had it installed at local gmc dealership. mileage at failure 89,650. repaired at 89,802. purchased as a used vehicle at local auto dealership in march 2018 with 80,512 miles.

The headlights are so soon they are unsafe, it's like driving without lights. i took the car to the dealer and was told they don't know what the problem is. i escalated the issue to cadillac customer service and have been getting no answer about what to do for over two weeks. it's scary and unsafe to drive at night so i don't.
